Best Western Mercur Hotel - Copenhagen

If I come back to Copenhagen, I will not think twice booking in Hotel Mercur again. At first I was assigned to a room that faces a tennis court. I felt that privacy was not great in that room so I requested a room transfer and it was granted despite the fact that the hotel was almost fully booked when I checked in. The location is convenient, there […] is literally a metro stop across the street. The historic part of Copenhagen is within walking distance. Little Mermaid is about a 45-minute leisure walk. The city restaurants are quite expensive and that is why I went regularly to 7-Eleven for food and drinks. The receptionist was kind enough to accommodate my repeated requests to open wine bottles for me. The hotel room is a bit small for me, but I didn't care that much because the hotel's convenience enabled me to spend more time outside than inside. We had a wonderful time in Copenhagen. The room we were in faced out toward the main road so we were able to watch the city. The hotel is centrally located - very close to the main rail station as well as the "metro" and the buses go everywhere and stops are close by. The Scandinavian breakfast had a little American to satisfy everyone.

The pluses - very nice hotel staff, good breakfast, room was clean and adequate, right on mass transit lines to all major tourist locations, and a 10-15 min walk from central train station. The minuses - carpet was stained and needs replacement, neighborhood is a bit transitional, though I don't know that there is any crime problem there.

The hotel was nice, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only things I did not like about the hotel was, there were nasty socks left in the room on the heater. The beds were nice, I enjoyed the hotel for the most part. If you don't get the parking in front of the hotel, you have to pay 150 Krone per day.

A clean hotel with friendly helpful staff. Construction taking place on the facade so it was somewhat noisy during the day. Less expensive than other downtown hotels; a reasonably good option.

This hotel was in a great location and was a great room and the breakfast was fantastic. Parking was expensive ($25 a day) but that's just how it is in Denmark. The room was very comfortable and quiet and the bed very soft. We had a fabulous two night stay.

My short stay was perfect. Great location, even though I found the S-Bahn line ticketing to be a bit unfathomable. But lots of walking took care of that. Jensen's Beef House restaurant on the other side of the cinema complex was recommended by the hotel staff, and was perfect.

Jonas the desk clerk could not have been more helpful. We arrived at 7:30 a.m. after traveling for 24 hours and got us a room by 9: 00 a.m. so we could get some sleep before touring the city. I would definitely stay again at the Mercur. Less than 5 minutes walk to train station, Tiovoli and town hall square, and just far enough away from the huge crowdsbof tourists and locals strolling the historic streets. If you get a room facing the train station, you are in for trouble. The noise is TREMENDOUS. I do not consider myself sensitive to noise, and I usually have no trouble sleeping even in a room facing a busy street, but the train noise was simply incredible. Copenhagen (like the rest of Scandinavia) is quite expensive. This hotel was OK for the money (by Copenhagen standards) since we didn't need air conditioning. I would not stay here in the heat of the summer, though. The location is good -- close to restaurants / shopping -- and within walking distance of the train station.

I will NEVER stay at this hotel again! Thankfully it was only two nights before we boarded our cruise, but it was awful. No air conditionIng, no tub, and I've never stayed in a hotel room so small. It was a double bed with two twin sized comforters so my husband and I couldn't even sleep under the same blanket. There was no thermostat in the room, so […] you had to open a window. However, there was no screen and we had the pleasure of a giant bug visiting our bedroom that second night. The shower overflowed into the drain in the closet sized bathroom when you let it run, so you had to rinse, then shut it off and soap up, then turn it on and rinse, etc. When I told the front desk they seemed honestly sorry that no one could repair it that night and since they were booked solid, we got complimentary wine. Which I didn't like, but appreciated the gesture. Basically, if you want a cheap hotel in the center of town, you got it, but you don't even get what you pay for here. Read more

The room was hot. There is no AC so I had to leave the window open. The hotel is very close to the train station and you can hear the trains screeching most of the night. Also the wireless internet was very weak. If you need to be on-line I wouldn't recommend staying here.

My spouse and I have become accustomed to renting an apartment when we travel to Europe. Unfortunately, there were none available for this trip due to the Eurovision 2013 event in nearby Malmö, Sweden. One lift was out of use when we were there, and the shower head in the bath had a leak. There's no mini-bar in the room and pillows are on the small side. No toiletries (moisturiser, toothpaste etc) is provided by the hotel so make sure you bring your own! On the flip-side, the location is excellent and breakfast is a good spread. The hotel was basic, the beds were uncomfy, pillows were not real pillows and the bathroom flooding is apparently normal! One of the lifts wasn't working and there were building works going on at the hotel outside our bedroom window. Very noisey location right opposite the main rail line. The breakfast was nice though.
