Hotel O.K. Asked for a high floor room with Seaview but got a room on 3rd floor overlooking car park.Room o.k. but shutters and patio door did not lock (Room 303). Reported this twice to hotel but they never sorted out. Reception staff not very helpful. Food o.k. and drinks were very good. You can have premium brands but have to ask. Beach is beautiful. Asian restaurant and Italian o.k. but Mexican not great. You get to choose from a menu but they give you something totally different to what you ask for! Staff are o.k. but only depending on how much you tip them. Monica who showed you to your table for breakfast and lunch seems to be the only genuine one. Room has a fridge stocked with beer, water, soft drinks, crisp and nuts which is good. We were here for Christmas and New Year and most people who stay here are from South American countries, with a few American and Canadians which was fine for us. Entertainment o.k. but only on for 1 hour until 9.30 which should start later really and then the only place to go is in the lobby bar which may have a guy on the organ or a duo. Location is great, not even a 10 minute walk to all the nightlife but this can be expensive. Minibus runs every hour from the hotel and you can go to any of the other 3 hotels but you are not all inclusive unless you have a purple wristband. To get this you have to go on there timeshare morning that takes you to their new hotel. Free wifi only in reception area.
Top Tip: Go to Coco Bongo! It's fantastic. A guy comes around the hotel to sell you tickets which includes tranportation there (it's only a 10 minute walk though), queue jump and then an open bar. It's quite expensive but worth every penny. Buses are great and run all the time (only 50p). Go to Chichen Itza which is one of the seven wonders of the world and you learn about the native Mayan people.
As guest of friends during their week, for a few days, we experienced the lovely warmth and hospitality of the Sunset Royal Beach Resort. From the courteous, helpful staff, warmth of our wait staff, pool staff and sumptuous meals, buffets and snack bars, we were treated like honored guests. The facility which included the beach area, pool and rooms were nicely appointed and spotless. Although I have traveled for many years as an airline (now retired) employee, I had not had the pleasure of visiting Cancun. It was a delightful and welcome break from a long Vermont winter!
This hotel is descent. Checking in was terrible. It could have been because of spring break. There is someone that supossedly gives you a "welcome packge". They give you the keys to your room and of course the "timeshare spill" is included in this package. I kindly declined the offer to go see their timeshare and I was not bothered at all for the rest of the trip. This was really nice.
The resort is for sure outdated and they are trying. They were painting the exterior while I was there. The rooms are very spacious. There is an electric stove with two burners, no oven. There are enough utensils and a microwave; if you want to cook. The living room is spacious as well with a couch that turns into a sofa bed and according to my son; is comfortable. The bedroom also has a couch that turns into a bed. There is a tub with jets in the bedroom.
The staff that runs the activities and the evening shows are amazing. They are very creative and keep you entertained at all times. Don't miss the "Michael Jackson show!
The grounds are nice. They maintain the areas very clean. But, like anywhere else, if you want a good spot to sit by the pool or a palapa at the beach; get up early and block those lauche chairs with your towels or you won't find a place to sit.
The food is not that great. I am glad that I did not pay the all inclusive. The "welcome package" came with a free meal for the first evening in the resort. This was a nice gesture from the resort. But, the food was not that good. We ate out most of the time. I did order some tacos at the pool bar area and they were really good and the prices were reasonable. There is a small grocery store that is walking distance from the resort. As you walk out, make a right and is about a 3 minute walk.
The location of this resort is great. You are close to downtown and close to all the clubs; if you are a party person. But, is so easy to travel in Cancun; that it does not matter. You can catch a bus for almost a dollar every 5 minutes or less!.
I would for sure come back to this resort if needed.
Those are the highlights of the Sunset Royal. We went as timeshare guests and did not participate in the all inclusive. We went on a dental vacation and did not feel the desire to eat and imbibe without limitation. Saying that, we did eat a couple of buffets at the resort we didn't regret our decision. We enjoyed lighter breakfasts and lunches and dinners at local restaurants. The yoga instructor was well trained and instructed six morning a week. The beach was beautiful with plenty of lounges to relax on. The rooms were a disappointment and we were originally offered a room with two beds and an inadequate kitchen. We asked for another room and were offered a room with only one bed but an adequate kitchen. We settled for this room with a cot for the second bed which I slept on uncomfortably for seven nights. It felt like sleeping on a bag of bones.
We stayed in this place for one week as an exchange, the views of the sunrise from our windows were perfect. The staff were friendly helpful and attentive, with the exception of Faustino his attitude made us feel like we were a burden to him and his customer service was less than desirable, however the excellent service from the rest of the staff made up for his lack of customer service. The rooms are clean daily, the shows at the theater were nicely put together and entertaining. Food was very good. One major setback is no wifi in the rooms
This is the second time we stay in this hotel and we were surprised how much it has improved in the last few months! We wil definitely become members next time we go. Great staff.. Diana, Nereida and Faustino from front desk always helping and smiling. Excellent managers Jorge Nolasco and Jose Rios! Gamaliel beach waiter, Alberto and Guadalupe from aquario were great. Our housekeeper was very friendly. The beach is so nice and clean, great to listen to the mariachis at dinner, mojitos by the pool were very good.. We enjoyed our vacation so much. Thanks to all the staff.
My whole stay was been a great experience and good memories. Guadalupe, the buffet breakfast server was very attentive and friendly. He consistently check if everything was ok. What a great day to start a day!!!!!
Excellent Waiter. When I came in for my meals he remembered what I drank, the straws, water, honey and the tea. He was always there with a smile. He provided service above and beyond. Wonderful Experience.
My good friend and I stayed at the Sunset Royal for a week. We had a great experience. Many of the staff were wonderful. Rolando, Angel (Seafood Night) and Daniel (Mexican food night) were great hosts and servers at the Aquinas restaurant. The International Mexican dinner with the Marachi Band was great fun. Deana helped us out making dinner reservations and recommended some great places. Our housekeeper, Jouquina, did a great job keeping our rooms clean. We stayed on the 7th floor. The yoga class at 9 am in the gazebo next to the beach was great. I enjoyed doing yoga with Elisabeth, the instructor.
They were having some plumbing problems when we were there, where their automatic flushers were not working properly in the public areas, lobby and swimming pool bathrooms. We had a little trouble with hot water in our showers but they fixed that right away.
We did not use the spa facilities.
Andres' Mesero was a very attentive and gracious waiter for our lobster dinner on our last night at Royal Sunset. He finished off our evening with flaming Mayan coffee. What a beautiful end to a great dinner! Definitely a night to remember!!!!
