"El mejor All Inclusive"

Considering that the Sunset Royal was advertised as a 4 star hotel, I was not very impressed. The ocean front location was certainly nice, but the hotel was very boring - a big unpersonal block of concrete at the beach. Not much to do there either with very limited entertainment programme. The room was very clean, spacious and with all the necessary […] comfort for a beach vacation. The food was ok but not much variation. The staff was friendly and helpful. When I booked this hotel at a special rate, I had no idea that a time share offer was connected to the special rate. Although I was not interested at all in this offer, they chased me and made me go to a time share presentation - else I had to pay the normal rate price for the hotel. So be aware of this when you book a special rate.
"Fun and relaxed week!"
01/28/15 Leo V Chillicothe, Illinois
Wonderful week in a wonderful place. Friendly staff throughout. Clean property. Perfect beach setting, close to city, yet private beach. We shared an all-inclusive week. The service was excellent and the food good, fresh and great variety. We will be back!

Our room had a spectacular view of the ocean. The buffet was very good with a wide variety of choices. Our waiter, Guadalupe, was the best. Elvira in the spa gave the best massage I've ever had. Valentina took very good care of our room. She made animals out of towels every day. She also made sure the refrigerator was well stocked daily. Our concierge, Cristina, was very helpful and great to work with. She was super friendly too. Fabulous place to stay for a week. We will stay again.
"Great place to Honeymoon!"
01/26/15 Jade H Fayetteville, North Carolina
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at Sunset Royal. We had a fantastic time with the all-inclusive package. In fact, I strongly recommend that anyone visiting the resort purchase the all-inclusive package. We had endless food and drinks at no extra charge for the entire week! This included full course meals at Capriccio and Aquario and endless alcoholic beverages. For the PROS!!! -We started every morning with a full breakfast buffet and wonderful staff while watching the sun rise over the ocean/pool. -The all-inclusive plan came with a spectacular lobster dinner on the night of our choosing. It truly was delicious! -Yoga was amazing with Elizabeth. -Franco (or Franko... I'm sorry!) was very fun and kept everyone active and interested via beach volleyball and water aerobics. -Speaking of the beach, there were plenty of beach chairs and canopies to relax and soak up the sun. -The tide was overall very calm with little undertow. The beach was clean and very beautiful. -The location for the resort was very close to the downtown/nightlife area which is perfect for those who like the night club scene. We had the opportunity to check out Mandala, but CocoBongo looked pretty cool, too! -The on-site restaraunt, Capriccio, is a beautiful dining establishment with absolutely delicious food from start to finish. The waitstaff was utterly fantastic (Thank you, Jose!). -The room was spacious and very well-kept by the staff. We had different towel-animals each day on our jacuzzi, in the bathroom, and on the table. We also had a fully stocked mini bar with beer, sodas, snacks and lots of water. -We had access to their sister resorts and amenities where we went kayaking on the lagoon. -The on-site spa was extremely relaxing. Elvira and Diana did a wonderful job on our couples all-day spa package :) I haven't been that relaxed in ages! Now, for the one CON we had: Upon booking, we were told to call the number for the resort all-inclusive reservations. I had set up the plan for all 7 days of our trip. For confirmation, I was told I would receive an email with a voucher to turn in once we arrived at the resort. After a week or two, I had not received any emails. I naturally called the number back and requested them to resend the voucher because there must have been an issue with the email. Again, I did not receive any voucher/confirmation in my email. I did, however, have a deduction in my bank account from Sunset. Since there seemed to be a communication error, we decided to sort everything out once we got to the resort. Upon arrival, Jose greeted us and told us we were not listed under the all-inclusive plan. I showed him our bank statement proving our purchase-- he gave us wristbands and told us to keep checking back because they should be able to resolve the issue. After a few semi-stressful days worrying about the all-inclusive, the resort was able to locate our voucher and we did not have any further issues. I strongly recommend that if you do purchase the all-inclusive package, you make sure to have the voucher in hand no matter how many times you need to call and have it resent! Even with the hassle, it was DEFINITELY WORTH IT! Overall, we did not want to leave when Saturday morning came. It was a great experience, especially for our first time in Mexico. I would highly recommend this resort for an active couple/family.
"Very Helpful and Pleasant Staff"
01/25/15 Daniel F
Had a great time the facilities were very nice. Several staff members went beyond what was expected and made for an enjoyable stay. Like to especially compliment Reynaldo for taking care of our room and the "extra" attention. Carlos and Rubon went beyond being courteous and helpful in the restaurant. Hector always provided great service in the lounge bar. Rosa gave a massage that relaxed and got all the kinks out. The staff everywhere were very pleasant and made us feel welcome. The facilities were kept clean at all times. We ate meals off the menu and had some great meals that tasted great and were well prepared and presented.

This was a time share trade. Second year in a row where we read marginal reviews of a resort then absolutely loved it! Makes me wonder what would make some people happy. The location is fabulous, the beach the best I've been on. The location relative to shopping, night life, etc also excellent. The main thing that would make me reluctant to go back to Cancun in general is the vendors. If you program yourself to say "no" every ten seconds that you are awake there, you might fend most of them off, and they mostly want to rip you off. Arrange transportation to the resort ahead of time; I called resort and they transferred me to Premier. Don't stop to talk to ANYBODY inside the airport, go outside to Premier. We got in late and had a grumpy check-in person who said we needed things we didn't have. The next morning, Christina smoothed everything over and she was a real bright spot. Other staff who really did well by us were Faustino at the desk, waiters Daniel and Ricardo, housekeeper Lucia. We did tours of Chichen Itza and Isla de Mujeres; both long days, the former amazing, the latter missable. We did 4 of 6 days all-inclusive and I agree with other reviewers that it's overpriced but I suspect that's what drives the bus, so to speak, because everything else about the resort was so nicely taken care of otherwise. Staff all excellent, room well cared for. We planned to refuse the time share presentation no matter what, but we weren't pestered about that. Spoke to some people who did and they had the usual miserable experience. Overall a great vacation!
"Great view great fun"
Had great view in room. woyld have liked a balcony u could sit on. room service food lacking, usually wasn't made thw way listed and was out of several items throughout week. Food in Capriccio was great as was the service provided by Francisco our waiter in mornings. Food on buffet offered excellent choices. Entertainment was good and kept people involved
"Had a great time! Very good service, but all-inclusive fees were high."
This resort is at a prime location, only about a 10 minutes' walk to downtown! The beach and pool weren't crowded at all, but the pool is a bit small and very shallow. Franco and Daniel, both part of the entertainment team, helped make this vacation stand out!! Although the all-inclusive fees were ridiculously high (they made us pay for 4 people, instead of just the 3 of us that were staying in a 1-bedroom complex!), the service was great. The breakfast was definitely the best meal (apart from their lack of sausage and nutella); the buffet lunch was also tasty but the outside snack bar mediocre. The sit-down dinners were good but the portion sizes were a bit small, and the buffet dinner before the shows had pretty much the same food every night. The room service came every day to clean and Karla and Rosita were more than wonderful. This resort is small but you get to meet a lot of people and become close with a group that you will remember!
"Nice resort, excellent staff, rooms tired"
01/16/15 RandyBWhite Montrose, Colorado, United States
Overall we enjoyed our stay at this nice resort on the beach in Cancun. All of the resort staff we were in contact with were courteous polite and very helpful. Particularly Carlos Capoto in the main restaurant and waiter Ruben. Food choices were very good and quality and value excellent. The staff are not accustomed to receiving tips and go out of their way to be gracious when you reward them. The facilities including the pool all are all very nice and we really enjoyed the beach beds down on the sand. The rooms themselves were a little tired and in need of some upkeep. The athletic facility was adequate but the AC was not working and temperatures vary from 77 to 82°F. We were not troubled by the timeshare sales people, but then again we didn't answer phone calls in our room.
"Expected more for the money - got sick - have to tip CONSTANTLY if you want to be served"
01/11/15 Issy M London, United Kingdom
We're a young English couple in our 20s and were very let down by this hotel. We went to the Dominican Republic last year and expected a similar kind of service to that, but didn't receive anything close. Also, I'd just like to be clear that we're not complainers - we just work hard and expect what we've paid for. On arrival we were checked in fairly quickly and told our room number (not taken!). There were champagne glasses on the side which implied there were mimosas available on arrival at some times, sadly not when we arrived at about 6pm local time. It wasn't the usual overly friendly and buzzy welcome that we're used to either. The room was fine, nothing special. However, the floor was very slimey - like sun cream had been spilled and mopped all around the floor rather than cleaned properly. We were on the 2nd floor which meant it was VERY loud, too (we were overlooking the pool which is where the activities took place). We learned that the higher your floor the better quality room. Our air con started to smell like burning on the 1st evening over our 1st day. The hotel staff tried to fix it for 4 hours (no exaggeration) and in the end we had to move room. This wasted a night for us as we couldn't get ready to go out for dinner or anything because the bathroom isn't big enough to get ready in and obviously the staff were in the room. They moved us to a temporary room that night which had 2 double beds and said our new room would be available at 10am the next morning. 10am the next morning we went to reception to find out where our new room was (please bear in mind that each time we had to move room we had to pack our bags and carry them down to reception ourselves - to switch keycards - and then cart them back up to the new room) when were arrived they said it wasn't ready yet it would be ready at 11am, so we took our stuff back up to the temp room AGAIN. At this point they also showed us the room (apparently a nicer room because of our troubles) which hadn't yet been cleaned to make sure we were happy with it - it was better but pretty gross to see someones dirty room! At 11am we went back down and were given the new card. (5th floor this time). When we got there the cleaner was still in there. We waited outside with our bags for around 15mins and eventually got frustrated and went back down to reception, bags in town (we really were becoming frustrated by this point! We were wasting our holiday!). Reception said that we could have ANOTHER room (bear in mind this is now our 4th room!). We went up there and the cleaner was JUST coming out as we went in. The room was more modern that the 1st one we'd had, but nothing above what we were actually first expecting from the pictures we'd seen when booking! The fridge had not been re-stocked with drinks etc. Areas with nice beds/loungers sealed off exclusively for MEMBERS. If you tip the waiters on the beach constantly, they'll serve you drinks. If you only tip occasionally, they won't. Don't bother ordering food to the beach as it's cold by the time it reaches you. The drinks are okay - some cocktails a lot better than others. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. No joke, they have broccoli and cauliflower for breakfast. Lots of dinner type dishes, like lasagne. Very strange!! Breakfast is always my favourite meal on holiday - but not this one. They do have pancakes and omelettes available though. And nice hot chocolate at breakfast! The Italian restaurant for dinner is nice - though their wine is poor. They also served my boyfriend completely FLAT beer that came out of one of those big plastic water style bottles. Very strange. The staff aren't the overly friendly above and beyond type that you usually get on these kinds of holidays. You can tell that they don't love their jobs 1 bit. I got sick towards the end of the holiday. I've never before been ill on a holiday or had food poisoning for that matter and this was horrific. I was in absolute agony with cramps. I think it was the crushed ice they put in their drinks but I can't be sure. They have popcorn at the pool bar and one evening we actually saw a waiter put his hand in the machine and eat it! (There was a scoop). This really was the nail in the coffin for us and this hotel! We actually did ask for a refund and were willing to shell out a bit more on moving hotel and just enjoying the rest of our holiday but we were told the hotel didn't have the money we paid it was with the agency we'd booked through so they couldn't give us a refund.
"Good experience but have complaints with their membership program"
01/10/15 micah20152015 Dayton, Ohio
We have stayed here twice, once in July 2013 and once in Jan 2015. The first time was a sales pitch presentation with a discounted stay for 5 days. We stayed on the 6th floor with a sea view. We ended up purchasing the membership through their high-pressure sales tactics as an investment with 3 RCI weeks that we can use to stay in other hotels for free as promised. However, the RCI weeks were really hard to be deposited through their Reservation Department and we were not able to use them since we have had to membership. We are trying to sell back the membership now and get back the money we have put in. The second time we were able to come down for 7 days in Jan 2015 and the service was nice as we stayed on the 9th floor. The room was cleaned and set up daily with all-inclusive meals provided. The front desk tried to help me with depositing our RCI weeks on the website but it was really tough to talk to the Reservation Department to do that. Throughout the 1.5 years we have been trying to deposit our RCI weeks but still cannot use it in other places other than Cancun. We don't want to keep coming back here and use this hotel and pay for expensive tours and services.
