You are choosing this hotel because of its location and its price and honestly it does have potential. They have made several attempts to renovate. But there are several areas with minor changes could vastly improve the quality, comfort and capacity of this hotel. 1st: Cleanliness. The rooms need a very thorough cleaning before guest arrive. Every surface […] should feel clean and smell clean. There should be no cigarette butts in the air condition vents or in the window sills. There should not be layers of dust on the desks, ice chests or toilets. 2nd: Updates. As minor conveniences in this day of technology it would be almost a necessity to provide an alarm clock, preferably one that is also a docking station for cell phones and or ipods etc. In addition a wall mounted, or upgraded television is also recommended. 3rd: Amenities: At a minimum two sets of all towels, washcloths should be in each room. "Well, OK but..."
1) When I arrived, there were no bath towels in my room. Just hand towels. OK, Rectified immediately by front desk staff. 2) Found 3 unsecured Howard Johnson wi-fi networks. Front desk said no password. My Chromebook, which has been pretty effective, always, about accessing wi-fi, could never get its DHCP lookup. 3) I found the 'free continental breakfast, […] which ends at 9 AM, to be pretty pointless. When I arrived at 8:35, the minimal offering of bread/donuts was totally depleted except for 1/2 bagel. Some mini-donuts appeared. There was butter and jelly, but nothing like PB or cream cheese. The orange lid labeled 'decaf' was on the carafe labeled 'regular' and vice-versa. When I asked at the front desk which was' regular' (since noone was attending to the 'breakfast'), they had no clue, but did make some regular... There were small quantities of milk, orange juice, and apple juice in the fridge and a couple of flavors of cold cereal, but nothing like yogurt, or make-your-own-waffles, or other protein. The staff was truly great however, the lobby smelled dirty. Renovations were being done, pool was broken, only three elliptical machines comprised the "workout room." I booked a 2 bed NO-Smoking room, but I got a 1 bed SMOKING room. Front-Desk receptionist told me that Expedia sent the information incorrectly to book the room. The front desk worker was pleasant, but when you reserve a room and pay in advance, you should be given that room upon arrival. We were given a different room on the third floor. "Disappointing, even with low expectations"
We booked this place for three nights. It was cheaper than hotels in the area, so we didn't expect a lot of comforts, but we expected a bit more. First off, we thought we'd reserved a queen bed but got a full instead. Then around 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday a construction crew showed up in the room next door and started blasting loud music through the walls […] for about two hours. The hotel was near what we were visiting. The desk personnel were helpful. I had to re-key the keys every day, which was a bit annoying. Having breakfast included was a nice feature. I needed a getaway for the night and picked HJ because of the price. When I walked into the lobby I thought I made a mistake because it was a bit dirty and rundown. I was pleasantly surprised though by my room. . It was a bit small but it was nice and clean. Everything was up to date. "Broken down shanty"
Where to start, the bed had a broken boxspring, the shower head barely put out any water, the shower curtain rod was barely hanging on, the television was a tube-type small tv that had snowy channels, you had to put your body weight against the door to get it to shut all the way so we could lock it. I was stuck in Cleveland for almost a week because of flight cancellations and I picked this room because of the convenient location, and the fact that they offer free shuttle to and from the airport. "Close to the airport, free shuttle"
I needed somewhere to stay before a morning flight, and this did the trick. The heater was a bit tricky to work, alternating between very cold (it was -30 outside with wind chill) and way too hot and dry, but I managed. We try to always find the best bang for our buck when choosing hotels. We were very pleased when we opened the door to our room. There was NOT a smoky smell in our non smoking room as stated in some of the reviews I had read. The bathroom was very clean and up to date. In fact...the entire room was updated and very clean. Our lamp on the desk didn't […] work but that did not bother us. We were only there for an overnight visit. The breakfast was a simple one of juice, milk, coffee, cereal, and bagels. We were not expecting a hot meal and that served our purpose just fine. We are going back to Cleveland in December and we will be staying at this location again. "So many issues."
I reserved my room two days in advance yet when I arrived at the hotel there was not a room for me. I ended up in the lobby for 45 minutes while they scrambled to put us ANYWHERE, us being myself and my 12 month old child. Not fun to keep him in a carseat for 45 min. The desk person was very friendly and did find us a "newly remodeled" room that had […] not yet been used. I thought " GREAT!!" until we arrived after a long trek on the 3rd floor where construction was still underway as we walked all the way to the end of the hall. My clock radio sat outside the hotel room door, there was a layer of dust on EVERYTHING from the construction, the room reeked of paint and chemicals and the carpet was filthy!!!! There were no garbage cans, no towels(the entire stay NO TOWELS) and for the next hour the staff randomly beat on our door to bring something in, like garbage cans, garbage bags etc... None of the ice machines were working that day for some reason so you can imagine how difficult that made it to keep milk cold for my child. IMPOSSIBLE. Finally I begged the guy at the desk to let me keep his milk in their fridge, then I traveled three floors and two long hallways everytime I needed a bottle for him. When I requested towels I was given 6 small hand towels and told the big towles were in the dryer and I would have some brought to my room when ready. This did not happen, even tho I asked 3 times.
