We stayed at this hotel 18 years ago and it was great. We were saddened that the hotel has not been kept up to date and shows neglect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good but expensive"
Price was high for this older hotel. Rooms were clean - bathroom very small. Lobby area very nice. Would probably stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When I booked the hotel by phone through hotels.com, I was told the hotel was Magnuson Grand Hotel Amarillo. When I arrived at the address, there was an Ambassador Hotel. I thought I got the wrong directions to the hotel and drove around and finally called the hotel direct line for direction and that's when I found out that the Ambassador Hotel is the […] Magnuson Grand Hotel. The receptionist told me that they are in the process of changing names. I wish that someone had told us that before hand to save me 30 minutes of trying to figure out where was the hotel. The hotel lobby is very impressive. After checking into our room, I noticed a very strong air freshner smell in our hallway. A few hours later, the freshner smell faded away and a very strong foul smell surfaced. Luckily, it was only the hallway, it was fine inside our room. However, the heater was not working properly and the shower temperature was also not satisfactory. All staff seem friendly and helpful though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I could see a little mold around the bath tub....This used to be one of the better hotels in town....Starting to show its age..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The stay at the hotel was fine however I think that it is time to undate the bathrooms in the rooms. They are outdated and need to be remodeled.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Walking distance to some good eats..."
But that's about it. The hotel is worn...only 1 of 3 elevators was operational, the rooms are dated and so are all the amenities. For the amount paid, I'd rather go stay at a HGI or Holiday Inn Express. At least there the items in the room aren't dated late 90s.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"August 18, 2013 Needs Updates"
Only one elevator working out of three elevators. That made it difficult when getting a elevator to go the next floor to get ice. This was necessary, because the ice maker on our floor did not work for three days. Door handle on our door was loose and we had a very difficult time getting the door card to work. A/C and bed was great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No Air Conditioning"
When we checked in, it felt hot in the hotel! We got into our room only to find it was at 80 degrees and wouldn't cool down. I went to the front desk who said she would send someone to look at it. We went to dinner and upon return we found our room to be at the same temperature. I went to complain and they moved us to a different room and sent a maintenance […] guy up to fix that thermostat and we finally had a cool room! Needless to say I wouldn't recommend this hotel in Texas in August! It was beyond ridiculous!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Dissapointed in hotel. Mold in shower and elevators were not working properly. No frig or microwave. Ice machine was leaking and carpet was wet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was okay size wise. It was close for parking. That is where the compliments stop. It was musty and smelly. I know it is dog friendly, andI had dogs with me. But the room not only smell of pets (Which I understand ), but also of cigarettes. Also, it did not appear to be clean and sanitary. It is unlikely that I will stay there again, pet friendly […] or not! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay for the price. Needs some updates."
We used to stay here all the time as kids, and we loved the Ambassador (it's old name). However, in the 20 or so years since then :) it has not been as well-maintained as it could be. We were clearly staying on a floor that used to be a smoking floor, and it was a little stinky. Also the air conditioner never really worked. The elevators were also on […] the fritz so we went up and down six flights of stairs more than once. Also, if you get your rate on Expedia you may or may not get the breakfast included, and it is confusing when you get down there, although you can pay cash for it - although you might want to go to Denny's or somewhere instead. It is nothing compared to some of the breakfasts I've had at other places, and it would be nice if they would offer some better and fresher choices, although it's not the worst for only $5. I would rather pay $10 though and get a really good start. However, I've stayed in other rooms on upper floors and they've clearly been redone and are great, so maybe the higher floors, the better, or perhaps they are renovating as they can. Anyway, the bones of this hotel are great and having TGI Friday's in-house is very nice. There's also a cool pool bar, Fast Eddies, across the parking lot. I like the area, in the middle of town. I hope that the owner of this property will continue to update this hotel and people will keep staying there so it stays in Amarillo, but it has to stay nice for people to want to! Best of luck. "Worst night of my life"
Wish we had just driven through the night. First off, the hotel isn't called the Magnuson Grand Hotel- it's called the Ambassador. So, that made it tough to find at 11:30 at night. When we got there, they informed us that there would be a $50 chg for our pet. Strange, since we had specified in the filter that we needed a pet friendly hotel. Not happy […] with the extra charge. The a/c was out, so we were miserable. 1 of 3 elevators worked- the morning of our departure, the 3rd one went out. Had to carry luggage down the stairs. At least 6 lights in our hall were out, the bathtub made a creepy gurgling noise all night, the place wasn't clean. When we were checking out, I was complaining to the front desk about our horrible stay in hopes of some sort of compensation. I wasn't being rude with her- I was just stating the facts of our nightmare stay. The woman at the desk wouldn't even look at me. She kept on doing her busy work. It was SO disrespectful. It's amazing what she could have smoothed over with some empathy and customer service. NEVER EVER going back there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"This is no 3-star hotel"
The stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. Everything seemed old or in poor condition. The first room that we were given reeked of cigarette smoke( in a no smoking room) and the second was not much better. The beds were awful and even the t.v. was of poor quality. I would not choose to stay at this hotel ever again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Three Stars; For What???"
The charged us like this place was brand new and comparable to the new places in town... What a Joke... Very disappointed. They need to tear it down and start over, very outdated and not worth the $190.00 for the up-graded room. They should tell people that its not a nice place when one reserves a room. We were NOT told that the air conditioning system for the entire hotel was broken. Our room was extremely HOT!!! The ice machine on our floor was broken. The elevator floor numbers were inaccurate and gave the wrong listing for the floors. The front desk person would not verify the rate that I was given through an online booking service. She said she […] didn't know the rate that we were given. We were told that a technician would come to our room to "fix" the AC. After waiting almost an hour for him, he never came. "Ok, but not good"
When we arrived the front desk clerk couldn't find our reservation and it took 15 minutes of standing at the front desk while they found it and corrected an error. During that time there were numerous loud conversations coming from the 2-way radios at the front desk. Booked a King, they didn't have one so my wife and I had to sleep in a room with separate […] double beds. Beds were very soft and we both woke with sore backs. Bathroom was small with noticeable rust and mold in one corner. Shower curtain rail was damaged so the shower curtain would not stay closed, causing water to splash onto the bathroom floor. The shower/tub surround looked cheap, the faucet on in the shower/tub required a lot of effort to even turn on. Nightstands don't have access to electrical plugs to charge cell phones, tablets, etc. Room appeared clean and there were no significant smells or odors. Hallways were uncomfortably warm. We will not be staying at this hotel in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
One of the main reasons we chose to stay at this hotel was for the pool. Unfortunately, after booking, we found the pool to be closed for repairs. I understand this will happen from time to time. Most people expect a hotel stay to include, at the very minimum, the amenities that they would have in their own home. If possible, it would be nice to find […] a few upgrades or perks to the stay that we wouldn't normally have at home. Of course I don't have accurate numbers, but I would guess that most Americans have a flat panel TV with at least a few HD channels. Every channel I watched on the old dinosaur tv was full of static. A poor showing, to be sure. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Knowing that the hotel was outdated was good, and I thought our room price was fair. The room seemed clean, and the staff were friendly. The staff at the hotel were great! Not even a teeny complaint. My problem was with the soundproofing of the rooms. About 2:00 a.m., a very noisy couple kept me up for most of the rest of the night.. "Dog friendly++ 1st stay=HORRID! 2nd stay=IMPROVED!"
My husband & I were travelling with our 2 yo GSD. We stayed overnight in this hotel on the outbound and return trip (a day apart). On our 1st night's stay, our room was on the 1st floor outside the main restaurant/bar/pool area. We were kept up and then woken up throughout the night as people enjoyed the amenities!! Not pleasant. The toilet threatened […] to overflow at every flush and the drains in the sink and the tub were slow. TV stopped working. We reported it at check out; they seemed very dismissive. We considered cancelling our return stay! The 2nd stay was improved. Unfortunately, check-in was EXTREMELY slow (1 lady seemed unconcerned about guests' extended wait leaving the other to process alone#. When she did get 'on board', she took care of the person behind my husband, leaving my husband to wait for the 'next available' clerk. Unfortunately, we were on the 5th floor; making it a bit more complicated when taking our dog outdoors. Everything else was in good order. We ordered room service and it was wonderful. The young woman who delivered it was terrific. We had to lead our dog through the main lobby area when going in and out #a number of times#. He received a warm welcome each time. The overall room was a significant improvement over the first. I might point out that the elevator was glassed on one side overlooking the lobby. This was beautiful, but, caused our dog significant stress and concern each time he needed to go outdoors!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
