"Nice hotel"

We were at the Marriott KC for a convention in the hotel. All events were either in the Marriott or the attached-by-a-skywalk (also Marriott-owned) historic Muehlbach (sp?) Hotel, so it was very convenient. Rooms were lovely, beds were heavenly. Health Club was huge. Had buffet lunch in the lobby restaurant one day, and it was also excellent. Only drawback was, while my husband was attending the convention, I had little to do. There is absolutely no shopping in this area (believe me, I tried!) except for one Joseph A. Bank store and a neat food market that offered a wonderful variety of delicacies: pastries, chocolates, cheeses, etc., and also a wide variety of dining options. Since I didn't feel comfortable driving around by myself, I spent a lot of time in the Health Club or reading/watching HBO in the room waiting for my husband to be done for the day. (Glad the rooms were so nice! :) Wished they'd had free WiFi, but it was $10 per day, and I didn't want to spend that just to check my e-mail. Nightlife is nearby -- the Power & Light District is within close walking distance, and has a lot of restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Two restaurants about 10 blocks away were very good (need a car or cab) and were in an old warehouse called the Freighthouse. Lidia's was an Italian restaurant with all homemade pasta. We got the Prix Fixe meal for $28, and it was excellent. Wonderful bread, salad, three different homemade pastas they served hot from skillets at your table -- and they kept offering you more until you were stuffed -- then you chose a dessert! The decor was awesome, with incredible blown-glass chandeliers that looked like over-sized grape clusters. On the other end of the Freighhouse was Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ -- it was very good, too, but to me, one BBQ tastes just about like the next! (It boasts that it's been rated #1 KC BBQ for the last 4 years in a row.) Liked the sweet/smoky BBQ sauce on the meat, and the sides were very good -- try the Hickory Smo

Everything was fine except that we were surprised to find small old fashioned box TVs in the rooms. With the Marriott name and the Marriott price, they need to quickly add flat screen TVs!

I booked for my family of five (5), 2 adults, three kids. We were stuffed into a small room with 2 double beds. I brought to their attention my booking, and they did not care. Suggested that we upgrade to a suite ($375/night). Pass. o pass t The room was hot and very uncomfortable. I again complained. Again, they did not care. Told me that it was Hotels.com's problem. Yeah, way to pass the buck. Horrible experience. Do not stay here.
