The hotel is fine, but it shares a common entrance/gate with the Tropen Museum. Late night, this gate is closed and on my return I got anxious on how to ask the hotel to open it so I could enter. There is a bell, but with a sign in Dutch and no indication that it is linked to the hotel and not the museum. Lovely hotel set back a bit from the main road, tt's about a 15 minute tram ride into the city itself, but I actually liked that very much, because it was very quiet. Our keys (both of them) had to be replaced/reprogrammed daily because they didn't work after one or two uses. They said it was because we kept them in the same pocket with our phones/credit […] cards, but we didn't. Also, don't expect the staff to help you with anything, including activity suggestions, directions, or even answering the phone. If you need anything, you'll have to go downstairs and ask in person. And they are pretty annoyed to see you standing there when they are already on the phone. But I'd stay there again in a heartbeat, I'd just suggest that you find out any information you need regarding Amsterdam before you arrived. Also, they have a very convenient laundry room on the ground floor, one washer and one dryer, 5 Euros includes wash and dry. Read more

1. Hotel staff were very accommodating. 2. Elevators sometimes worked -- sometimes didn't. 3. On Sat and Sun evenings June 2 and 3, a hard rock band played in a park directly below the hotel windows (including ours) so loud that the building shook. The music was extremely loud and metallic in sound -- and continued without break for hours at a time. […] It finally stopped on Sat night at 9 PM, on Sunday night at 6 PM. The hotel staff did not know how or what to do about this. When I requested that we be moved to a different NH hotel (they're all over Amsterdam), somehow the hotel was able to make certain the band stopped. Nice hotel with small, very neat and clean rooms. Excellent location - just far enough away from the loud & crowded (but fun) downtown with an easy 10 minute tram ride (#9) from the transport stop right in front of the hotel. Plus, neighborhood bars & restaurants and the local outdoor market just two blocks away.

We had a very good stay at Tropen hotel. If you like to be in a quiet neighborhood then you should pick this hotel. Easy access to City Center, 20'-25' walk or 10' by tram, that has stop very close to hotel. Staff is very friendly. Take extra time to check in or check out because normaly there is only one person at reception.

Hotel is good enough for short business stay. Quality-price ratio is just ok. Room was rather small with odd layout (closet in bathroom, separate toilet). Hotel is extremely dated and in need of complete renovation. Breakfast is overpriced. Good feature is that it is next to Royal Tropical Institute where I had an early morning meeting.

Lovely hotel, very well situated - a lovely park next door, tram across the street and the zoo within walking distance. Our seven year old was delighted and so were we! Hotel was very clean and nicely decorated. Loved the choice of breakfast available. Would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.

The hotel was out of the city centre but there was a tram stop (no 9 tram) right outside. We chose this hotel as we were attending an event at the Tropen museum which was right next door. On arrival at midday a room with a double bed was not available unless we upgraded to a superior room. We decided to wait until 3pm when our room was ready. The bed […] was comfy. There were several English tv channels. There was just a shower in the bathroom. The bathroom was small and a little dark for doing makeup etc. There was tea/coffee making facilities in the room but the coffee wasn't the nicest. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. We had a lovely view over the park from our window. We did not have any meals within the hotel. There was a nice cafe across the road ( it had Eden in the name) and we had a nice meal in a near by tapas bar. All in all the hotel served it's purpose for our visit. The hotel was as expected, easy to get to with the number 9 tram (get off at eerste van swindonstraat) the tram stops outside the hotel, I booked this one becasue it's a little out of the centre, so a bit quieter in the evenings, but still easy to get to all the tourist traps. El hotel me pareció limpió y muy comodo. Hay una parada de tranvia y autobus a la puerta del hotel y el trasporte público en Amsterdam es fenomenal. El baño era un poco viejo, pero comodo. La cama y decoración muy bien y moderno. Los trabajadores muy amables y atentos.

Bra bemötande av personalen och trevligt läge vid park. Rummen helt OK! Finns trevliga restauranger i kvarteren som känns enkla och stadsmässiga, inte gentrifierade. Rökning är tillåten på vissa bestämda våningsplan så om man undviker att kliva av hissen där märks inte detta. Fritt internet finns i lobbyn men inte på rummen ännu.
