"Close to train station many attractions"
Pleasant staff and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel apparently had a recent upgrade because the furniture in the room and the fixtures in the bathroom were very modern and in very good shape. The restaurant food was very good and the mini-bar prices were not outrageous. I chose this hotel because it was within walking distance of the Atocha train station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Modern Hotel"
Beautilful hotel, great location, beautiful rooms. Great Buffet breakfast, nice amenities. The only "minus" : free wifi only in the lounge.Close to Public transportation and museums. The personnel was very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"1st Trip to Spain"
Attractive, upscale hotel but unfortunately located on a very busy thoroughfare. We were located on the front side on the 4th floor and the crosswalk light would flash on the ceiling - also noisy from the traffic.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice stay, but there are better options"
This is the first of several AC hotels I stayed while I visited Spain -- wow, what a beautiful and modern decor. My room was a studio with modern but warm decor with a sliding dojo-style door to separate the room from the bathroom and hallway, I found the room very comfortable. I chose this hotel in its proximity to the train station nearby. A couple […] things to note. I did appreciate that the front desk offered to print my online train ticket for me for free provided I email the PDF. The only downside with this and other AC hotels that there was no free wifi in the rooms (as of mid-Sept 2013), only in the lobby / lounge areas. This was really disappointing as all other European hotels I stayed offered this wifi in the room free of charge. It was a little bit of a hike from the train station, as I went out the main entrance near the main traffic circle instead of a side entrance, so it turned out to be a bit of a hike with a 20kg bag. Overall, a nice one-night stay, but on my return to Madrid Atocha, I chose to stay at another area hotel with free wifi. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"clean and modern but noisey"
We waited a long time to check in as the group in front of us was arguing about mini bar charges. Manager was standing up front but did not assist front desk person or help us. Overall disappointing when you are tired from a long day of travel. Rooms were nice and modern but noisey. Nice location to train station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to train station and museums"
Very nice room, staff at front desk was great. Lobby was relaxing and had WIFI access. Location is excellent if you go or arrive from the Atocha train station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lovely shower but not much else to recommend it. Matrons cigarette smell in the hallway. No wifi in the rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
Have stayed there three times and always get same reliable, comfortable acomodation and particularly nice hotel staff. Well situated and convinient. Other than small elevators all else is excellent.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very good hotel, close to Museums, Train Station"
Very good hotel, clean, nice breakfast. Only problem is elevator is too small, but no big deal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to train station, El Prado Museum and others"
Very pleased.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It is my second stay at this hotel, both times for about 10 days. The staff is excellent-friendly, professional, helpful. Two years later, I was met with the same nice employees, which I consider a testament to the hotel because of retention of staff. The hotel is clean, comfortable, safe, close to transportation (bus, metro, train), dining, and museums. […] Families, business people, single travelers and couples all seemed very happy during their stays. The dining room has a delicious buffet breakfast. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Carlton in Madrid"
Everything was great except he TV was too soft to hear and we asked them several times to come up and fix it. they finally did, the next day. Otherwise, the hotel was very nice, the wifi worked very well in the lobby. If you wanted it for your room, you have to pay 18 Euros a day for that. Kind of ridiculous fee if you ask me. The bed was very comfortable. […] The room was a nice size, also. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was very small and the bed was uncomfortable. The surrounding area was loud and dirty. the roomwas not clean at all. there was somehting sticky on the floor in front of the refrig. They only provided one towel. I would not stay there againGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The right place to stay"
I really enjoyed my stay there the area was fantastic. Many places to eat. It was close to the train and bus station. And many other interesting sites. A must stay on my return visit. The staff was great and spoke good English for directions around the city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"very convenient location"
we were pleased to stay here - the only thing that s missing is he pool :) besides that - is it a good location, close to a big bus/train station, and museo del Prado etc..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed here for our first two nights in Madrid...it set the tone for a very friendly impression. We upgraded our room from standard to superior to be able to check in early...very nice. Walkable to the sights.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel near train station"
It was a nice hotel but small. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel has lots of restaurants and places to shop in walking distance as well as the high speed rail train station only about 2 blocks away.Genuine Expedia guest review
"" Good location, comfort, good breakfast.""
The Hotel was perfect for us. Everything we wanted to see in Madrid was in walking distance. Good looking modern, comfortable room. The breakfast buffet was all one could want. Special praise for the dining room manager who opened the room a little earlier for quests who were not aware of the holiday that placed it on a Saturday schedule. All the staff […] were helpful and friendly. One problem--and this should deter no one from choosing AC Carlton--skimpy bathroom supplies including a golf ball size piece of soap. "Excellent choice for traveling via train station"
Great hotel. We used the airporter bus to go from the airport to the train station, then a short, easy 5-10 minute walk to the hotel. We arrived at the hotel around 10:30 AM and they let us into our room.Took a nap, then explored Madrid. The beds are a firmer mattress on an elevated platform, but not uncomfortable. Room was clean, quiet (6th floor) […] and the bath was huge. Watch out, however, where you aim the shower head as the shower door is only a "half door" of glass and you can easily soak the floor outside the shower.Toiletries were included along with a hair dryer that worked just fine for my long hair. There are 3 ATMs for various banks adjacent to the hotel (across a side street), and metro stations both at the train station and one even more convenient only a 2-block walk south of the hotel. There are also lots of small markets and bodegas to buy some snacks or bottled waters (very inexpensive at these markets). The breakfast buffet was excellent. Eggs and various types of ham/bacon, fruit, pastries, coffee, tea and fresh squeezed jiuces. Worth paying a little more for the breakfast included when you book your room ahead. Also, unlike some reviewers, we found the staff very pleasant, although there can be a long trying to check out if you are arriving around 10 AM (as we did) and the staff can be a little harried. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place in you're arriving/departing by train"
The hotel was just as advertised for our needs. It was quick and easy walk from the Atocha train station, and walking distance of the central city park (Parque del Retiro) and into the central part of town -- we walked to Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol for dinner. The room was clean and modern, though travellers from the US may find it a little on the […] small side, though not overly so -- our bedroom was about 13x11 feet. We didn't try the breakfast, so we can't comment on that. However, there was a really great bakery/pastry shop about halfway up the street towards the station, on the left as you head from the station to the hotel. My only gripe, and a minor one at that, is that the (free!) WiFi in the lobby was really quite slow. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Location for the Train - but not much else"
They got me with the Marriott name in the title - but not up to Marriott standards - very small and noisy rooms (the floors and ceiling must be make of very thin paper! I even heard the sound of a luggage zipper in the room next door!!); elevators made me extremely claustropohic; minimal amenities - no real gym, no real restaurant or bar in the lobby; […] they charge for Wifi in the rooms (free in the lobby); and the TV has only 1 English-speaking channel. "A gem of a find..."
I chose this hotel because of it's proximity to the main train station in Madrid. I needed to stay over one night in Madrid catching a train to Barcelona to attend an industry conference. Bottom line - it was a great place to stay. The staff was very friendly, I ate most of my meals there and the wait staff was very attentive. Breakfast was awesome. For […] tourists, it is located close to many of the best sites in Madrid including walking distance to the Prado Museum and even city center. The neighborhood seems safe with many locals actually having dinner at the hotel's small restaurant. I travel to Europe on business a number of times each year, this hotel is on my "regular" list as a great value, clean and safe with excellent service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Street noise is only drawback"
The hotel and facilities are great. Only downside is the loud road that has a stoplight with racing traffic all night long. I've stayed on the 4th floor and the 8th floor. The higher up you go, the better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Does not deserve more than two stars."
Very disappointing experience. The hotel does not deserve more than two stars. To begin with, when we checked in, there was nothing to wash with. After a request for soap, we were give two extra containers of shampoo, and two containers of shower gel, which is not very convenient to wash hands. One of the pillows was smelly, nothing bad, an obnoxious […] perfume most likely, but still very unpleasant to use. But the worst thing was the noise. We could hear people on the floor above walking, people behind the wall using their bathroom, trucks on the street - as though the entire hotel was build of cardboard. And they charge money for using the computers in their "business center". Not recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, good location, a couple annoyances"
This hotel was a good price and extremely well kept. I really liked the hotel and room a lot, but there were a couple things that were annoying and would prevent me from giving it a 5 star review. First was the fact the the hotel was listed as providing free wifi. When I got there, I found this was true, but ONLY in the lobby/lounge. If you want WIFI […] in you're room, you need to pay and extra fee. I felt this was an unnecessary annoyance. They also have safes in the room, but it was not at all clear how to use it. It had a large key hole in the front that would certainly imply a large key was needed (which I was not provided). I didn't bother to ask about it since I assumed there was an extra charge for that as well. Usually the room safes I've used have a combination with instructions how to set it. Other than that, a couple small things that I must admit that I knew when I booked it. Breakfast was not included. When I asked about an airport shuttle, I was told that they didn't provide that. Fair enough, but if they don't have a shuttle service, it would have been nice if they provided a list of services that could be hired and perhaps even offered to book it. "Great hotel close to the train station"
Good hotel. Just one block from the train station and the airport shuttle. Lots of local bars and restauratns around. Nice clean rooms, a little larger than average size (for Madrid). However, it is 2 metro stops from the historic downtown, or a 15 min walk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean, Modern Hotel"
The hotel is great! It is very clean and modern and the location is good. It is near the Atocha Renfe station which is where you can catch trains to go to other cities or simply catch the Metro. My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during our brief stay in Madrid, we would stay here again. my only real complaint is rather than having 1 king/queen […] bed, they pushed together two twin sized beds. The beds were on wheels on a wood floor. So a few times the beds started rolling apart and my wife almost fell through. The wifi was not very fast but it was free which is apparently is rare in hotels in Europe, so can't complain too much. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"ac carlton Madrid"
the room was nice, servive very good, staff very helpful. It was very close to the Atocha train station which is a plus if you are taking a high speed train from there but the surrounding area was not the best. It was distant from some of the sites I wanted to see, but the metro was a few blocks away and very easy to use. The only complaint I really […] had is the expense, breakfast is tough to swallow for the cost when you can walk to the corner and get it for less, and the only wifi is in the reception area which also doubles as the bar. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They even printed my boarding pass when I was having trouble. The lounge area was very comfortable and inviting, especially after a hot, tiring day walking the streets of Madrid.Genuine Expedia guest review
This was a fabulous hotel and perfect for our needs. The cleanliness, polish, and the efficiency with which the rooms were set up is perfect. Most of the gentlemen working the front desk were fabulous, but one in particular seemed a little put out when we asked for advice around the city. Bartenders and servers were great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"5 minute walk to major train terminal"
Very comfortable hotel close to three different metro stops. 15 to 20 minute walk from the heart of the city. 10 minute walk from the famous Prado museum. Excellent location for anyone looking to be away from the crowds and noisy areas of the city. Located on a well lit street that feels safe at all hours of the day and night. Having the Atocha train […] station right down the street is also a bonus. The staff is very pleasant and had no problem holding our luggage when we arrived before check in time. They will also hold your bags if you have to check out and have a few hours before you have to catch your bus or train out of town. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent valued hotel"
Loved my stay here. Great location near reina Sophia an the atocha metro stop. The staff were very accommodating and sweet and the free mini bar was a big plus! I travelled alone and am a single woman and I found the area to be safe. Only con is the price of the wifi 17 euro a day is a bit ridiculous! But it is free in the lobby!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The AC Carlton Madrid Hotel was really a very nice place to stay. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful. The breakfast was outstanding. It was a short walk to the Metro but slightly longer walk to the Hop On / Hop Off Bus tour stop. One bonus was that the drinks in the mini-bar were complimentary. All in all, […] it was a good place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very convenient location"
I arrived in Madrid at the train station and was able to walk a few blocks to the hotel very easily. Check in didn't go as smooth as I would have liked. The first room they gave me, 117, smelled like sewage. When requesting another room, I tried to be polite in front of other guests and asked if it was close to a smoking room. It seemed he knew the […] room had an odor when he practically finished my sentence by saying the room smelled. He then gave me room 514, which was much better, but the first key didn't work, so I had to get another. I was finally able to enjoy my free minibar (soda and water) and get out to see the sights. It was very convenient to walk to most places and to be able to take the metro back when exhausted (also at train station). The shower was a little strange. It had a glass door that only went halfway the length of the tub. It was a complete mess with every shower I took, no matter how hard I would try not to let the spray go everywhere- the floor was soaked. I would definitely stay here again, but would immediately ask for a high floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
