Central Railway Hotel and Apartments - Redfern

Was good for the price. Convenient to Central Station. Spent one night here before moving to a more expensive hotel closer to harbor. Thought hotel was OK for the price given the high cost of Sydney hotels. There are restaraunts and bars nearby. Neighborhood was quiet enough.

1. Road noise in rooms next to road was disturbing during sleep. A road level noise suppression barrier woul be helpful. 2. The Hotel should maintain a "No Parking Drop off Area in Front of Building". 3, Laundry Area should be kept clear of storage items and provide a small table to fold clothing.

This hotel is about 5 min walk from Central station. Convenient location with a supermarket just down the road to your left as you exit the hotel. It however has a very basic accommodation.

This hotel is more like a motel in the U.S. The front desk was very helpful, the room had tv, air conditioning, relatively inexpensive internet, fridge, microwave, but did not have a phone, had bars on the ground floor windows. It was clean, but there were no ice trays in the fridge. It is 2 blocks from the central railway station, but that is a fair […] long walk from the center of the city and tourist places. It was handy for a night's stay before heading to the airport, and was a good bargain. You would need to use bus or taxi service to get around the city. There's a half flight of steps up to the front entrance, so getting luggage up on your own should be considered. The hotel was older, not too worn and very clean. We felt that the rates were expensive. the owner and the staff were helpful and friendly. We stayed three nights. The hotel is convienient to Central and Redfern Rail stations (about 4-5 blocks each) and the bus line runs right across the street. Public transport in Sydney is exceptional (bus, train, rail, ferry). We were three women travelling and felt safe all the time. Had we know the public transport system was so great, we would not have rented a car in Sydney. Street parking is premium, but the hotel does have secured garage space for a fee. Contrary to the experience of some reviewers, we found this hotel to be clean and tidy, though not a 4 star quality. The Central Railway Hotel is in a convenient downtown location, and the price is affordable, but these are the only two things that it has going for it. As a family we had to reserve two rooms, and they were not able to put us together or even on the same floor. There is no elevator, so plan on carrying your luggage up the stairs. Even though it was […] advertised as non-smoking, everything reeks of cigarette smoke, and the courtyard which the rooms open off of is the designated smoking area. The street side rooms were very noisy most of the night, many things in the room did not work (hair dryer, television in one of our rooms, clock radio, vent fan in bathroom, thermostate on heating unit...). We spent all of our days and into the evening exploring Sydney,and we dreaded going back to the hotel each evening...but we only stayed for three nights and decided not to relocate. The hotel was clean, the room was clean. The might manager was very nice, and accommodating. We arrived late in the evening to checkin. The night manager was waiting for us to checkin and assisted us with getting a taxi scheduled a taxi to get back to the airport the next morning. One downside, the hotel does not have a lift.

After having to dodge vomit in the stairwell to get to our room at midnight we were kept awake with people partying immediately outside our room till 1.30am. Upon asking them to quiet down we were met with five men entertaining two nude call girls on a common area table adjacent to our room. As there were no staff present after 9pm we had no option […] than to pack up and leave, taking a train home to the Central Coast and getting home at 3.30am. Before booking this place a read a number of reviews as well as the hotel details. Some people were disappointed because it wasn't what they expected in a hotel. However, if you realise that this is the case then the accommodation, though basic, is fine. The staff were also helpful e.g. got our room ready for 12 noon. Four of us, with 4 large suitcases […] just fitted into the room. With the double bed, double sofa bed and a single bed there was very little room for moving about. There was also a sink, microwave, kettle, toaster and kitchen equipment. Tea/coffee/sugar etc was filled up every day and the WC/shower cleaned. The place was 10 to 15 minutes (up hill) from the main station and about 10 minutes from a supermarket (carry on up the hill). Being relatively fit we found the 20 or so minute walk into the centre of Sydney no problem. Read more

Loved having a kitchenette and it had everything we needed. It was such a shame the vacuuming didn't extend to under furniture and we found a mouldy tea towel and discarded tissues in the bathroom drawer. The location was great, yes very noisy but you expect that so close to the city. It was only two blocks up from Central so that was great. Rooms VERY loud, TV reception poor, parking relatively expensive compared to similar hotels I've stayed where it's free. Showers went from too hot to ice cold in seconds. Beds sunk in he middle and pillows were hard as rocks. Look it's not bad for what we paid and it's better than a Hostel but that's all it's got going for it really.

The hotel was further from the train station than the name would imply to a foreign tourist this is very misleading. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever encountered. The springs in the mattress were completely worn out. The hotel is old and not well maintained. The shower in my room had a slow constant leak. Arrived at hotel with 4 cases but found there were no lifts, room a bit dated but only staying for 1 night and good price so didn't mind. Close to bus route into Sydney. The biggest problem was the traffic noise at night, the window or balcony door was not sound proof so sleepless night for me.

However, the room my sister & I shared was shabby & thus did not give the impression it was clean especially the shower - needs upgrading.
