Awesome location . Smack in the middle of North Beach, with great cafes and restaurants just steps away. The hotel is charming with lots of character in an old SF kind of way. Complimentary sherry is a nice touch, and the staff was nice and helpful. Had very high hopes upon initial arrival, but ultimately left dissatisfied. The rooms are small, but […] so are they at most boutique hotels - I prefer smaller boutiques over the higher end chains, and I found the room itself to be just fine, and it was clean. However, a few points of concern. 1: Hallways reeked of stale cigarette smoke. It’s a non-smoking hotel, but clearly that rule is not heeded by all guests. Presumably to counteract the smoke smell, the cleaning staff sprays air freshener in the rooms. Upon packing my clothes to leave, it was quite apparent that not only did they spray it in the room, but they must have sprayed it directly on my clothes! 2: Bed linens were sub-par; pillows & mattress uncomfortable. I don't need luxury, but do expect a certain level of comfort. 3: A minor nit, as this kind of thing happens in pretty much any urban location, but when the bars let out at 2AM there was LOTS of noise from the street below. All in all, while I love the surrounding neighborhood, I was disappointed with my stay. I lived in SF for 15 years and now travel there for work, staying about 20 nights per year within walking distance of the Financial District. This was a good experiment, but I will not stay here again. Read more

The hotel is located in the North Beach area with great restaurants right outside the door. Easy walk to Fisherman's Warf and Chinatown. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a bit small but clean and tidy.

I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel, since I'd read mixed reviews. The room was reasonably sized, particulalry for San Francisco. The bathroom was beautiful and the shower had more high-pressure hot water than anyplace I've ever stayed, which was great. The staff were generally helpful, though it was kind of a hassle getting one of them to recommend […] a taxi-service to the airport since they seemed focused on getting me to take a shuttle instead. In the evenings they put out a bottle of good sherry and a tray of cordial glasses, which is a very nice touch. The room was pleasantly decored and very cozy on a cool night. We spent our two days in SFO exploring Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower, surrounding residential areas Chinatown and the central city shopping district all within comfortable walking distance of the hotel (with comfortable walking shoes). The nearby bus lines connect conveniently with the Martin St train line and pier 39 is a 30 min stroll through suburbia. For the price, a cooked breakfast, or a voucher for the same thing at a neighbouring restaurant, would earn the Hotel Boheme 5-out-of-5 but it was just a bit pricey otherwise. FYI - my flight was delayed, so arrived around 1AM. The downstairs door is locked (lobby is a one flight walk up) - and I rang the bell for more than 15 minutes before I noticed a flyer on the hotel with a phone number (there was no phone number on the reservation confirmation - BIG BIG Ommission). Not sure what I would have done if that one lonely flyer was not there - but I would not have slept at this hotel! I was able to call the hotel and after another 5 minutes did get in.
