The Kent Hotel

I used their valet for my car and it took 45 minutes when I tried to get my car back which made me very late for a meeting. I never used their valet again. The bathroom light was burned out for 2 days so I unscrewed it myself and took it to the front desk. 3 days later when I checked out there was still an empty light socket in the bathroom There was […] no bellman service so, even though my room was on the first floor, there were 2 sets of stairs (4-6 stairs each) to carry my luggage myself to my room. I had 3 bags so I had to make 2 trips (leaving part of my luggage unattended in the lobby) while I took some of my luggage to my room & carried it out when I left. The TV remote control batteries were dead when I checked in. I took it to the front desk and he said it would take 5-10 minutes to get new batteries for me so I went down the street to eat lunch. When I came back and asked for my remote control, he pulled it out of a drawer and said, "Oh, I forgot. I'll go get them now." Then I stood there for 5 minutes while he got me some batteries. Even when it worked, I had to press the "POWER" button 3 times every time I tried to turn on the TV. My standard room had a window that looked out into an alley and a dumpster. Fairly clean rooms, easy to get to, close to the neach and many shopping places and restaurants. Price could be slightly lower based on similar condition hotels in Canada, but, I guess, considering that it is located in Miami Beach area - it was so far one of the cheaper options. Some rooms better than others. Front 302 excellent. Second visit to 107 which is rear first floor was initially alarming as it looks out onto back alley bin &car park but comfort & standard of service made up for that. Particular mention of Francois here as nothing was too much trouble & he ensured any problem solved & sorted with skill & humor.

Pleasant couple of nights, the dog stayed for free with a return of our entire deposit minus parking. Valet service (independent of hotel) stole a key chain and carabiner off our keys but otherwise no complaints.

If you're just going to enjoy Miami and don't plan to spend alot of time in a comfortable hotel room then this place is fine. The rooms are SMALL and very un-accomdating. On the upside it is located in a pretty good area and the front desk staff is very helpful!

Very nice and clean, no frills. Close to beach, but far enough away from nightlife as we have a small child. We came a day early as we were taking a cruise. Elevator is very small. Would definitely stay here again!

The Kent was exactly what I was looking for. It was clean comfortable and had all the amenities (i-pod dock, computer area, fully stocked bathroom, etc). The desk staff was very helpful with answering questions and suggesting places to eat. Also, it was a great deal for the money.

The front desk staff and security were Fantastic. There was 1 made who needs to take classes on how to clean a room properly, she left hair on the floor, didnt mop the floor, the bathroom was not cleaned at all, I had to take her broom and sweep the floor myself. Our rooms looked like dorm rooms, the beds are tiny and the furniture is pretty sparse. The room could have been cleaner, but there were no bugs which is a plus in Florida. It's in a great location; we walked everywhere, to restaurants, bars, the beach and shopping.

This was a great choice because being in the heart of South Beach the rooms were clean, modern, with HD tv cd player, cold AC. It is close to everything and very affordable. Don't expect concierge or anything like that except and great room to sleep in.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for literally 1 hour and we had to get out. The hotel smelled like weed and we could hear everything through the walls, including at women vomiting. The concierge was very helpful as well as the cleaning crew. The hotel does have a mildew odor but the other hotels closer to the ocean had the same smell. The hotel is in the perfect spot from the clubs, restaurants and ocean. It is noisy but your in Miami (plus I went during Spring Break). The walls are thin but I got lots of rest. I stayed for 6 […] days but well worth it. There is a restaurant attached but I didn't get to eat at it. The only complaint was that they ran out of towels but they quickly gave us towels a hour later. The shower head comes from the ceiling but it is nice. We had a refrigerator which was great. The hotel had a dvd player and flat screen tv. I loved it overall but I couldn't give it a 5 because it is not Marriott, or Sheridan. Read more

So...I had no idea what a dump South Beach was. The beach was beautiful...no doubt about that. The best beach I have seen in Florida. However, the moment you step foot off of the beach, it is dirty, smelly, there seemed to be drugs everywhere, and I did not feel completely safe. The Kent was on par with other hotels in the Art Deco area (aka...everything […] was constructed in the 50's and 60's). The beds were really comfy, and one of the front desk clerks was fabulous (Francois) - he was very nice and helpful. I would love to have him on all of my vacations. However, the Kent smelled of weed the whole time we were there, one worker seemed very high the entire time (not Francois), and one of the bartenders at the hotel spoke about some of the drug trips she has been on. While I am sure this is the case all over the place, it still left me never really wanting to go back to South Beach. However, if this is your scene and you are going to South Beach, the Kent is an okay choice. I will opt to go to other areas of Florida next time. Read more

Over the last ten years, I've stayed at numerous South beach art deco type hotels. In my opinion, the Kent is the best bang for your buck. I will definitely be staying there from now on.
