"Nicely refurbished but mechanical work sloppy"
The hotel has been refurbished after being taken over from Hilton. The lobby, hallways, and my room were very clean, freshly painted and the bathroom updated. However, the bathroom work was fairly sloppy. Others have noted the abundance of silicone in the tub fixtures, and the sink faucet was not installed well, being placed too far back so that is […] smashes the mirror frame when turned on full and there was no screen so the water sprayed everywhere if turned on too full anyway! Overall though it was pleasant, smelled fine, the HD flat screen TV was nice, the linens fresh and soft .. overall very nice stay. Others have also noted the limited "free" breakfast. Well, it is FREE so what's to complain about? I had two egg patties on a toasted bagel with yummy orange juice so it was fine by me...I wasn't expecting eggs benedict or gravlax for Pete's sake....it's FREE people! And for the price of the room, breakfast was a bonus. On the other hand, I left my pajamas on the back of the bathroom door by mistake and when I called to check the following Monday, they were nowhere to be found....weird, who would want someone else's PJs? Guess they ended up in the trash or maybe in the dirty linen that went who knows where to be cleaned.....oh well. They did check and return my call so kudos to the front desk for their effort! Would absolutely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Comfort Inn (aka Hamption Inn)"
Trouble finding the location given the recent name change to Comfort Inn; check in was inconvenient due to system switch over from HI to CI; Pool was closed for the season early; breakfast was adequateGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good functional hotel"
This was a good functional hotel, typical of those operating in this sector. Nothing fantastic, but clean, quite, well furnished and with helpful, polite staff and a complimentary breakfast. For one night business use it was good.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Overnight stay on way to West Point"

The location is in a quiet area among other motels near Rutgers University. We were on the 5th floor which was very quiet room. Restaurants were near by. Good stop. We found this motel via internet and Trip Advisor.
"Not what I expected"

We have recently discovered Comfort Inns in some recent travels. This reservation was a last minute one, so I figured this CI would be like what we stayed before. Well, our room was the "inn" not the "suite", which, I'm assuming, was what was available. Room was small...bathroom was tiny and need of an update. Room was clean, staff was helpful and friendly. No refrigerator in room, although the girl at the desk said she would see if they had an extra. No microwave. Breakfast was ok....eggs, waffles, juice, donuts. Convenient to I 287. Know that in the future to look for a "Comforts Suites"to get what I've been used to.

We stay in Somerset fairly often because we have family there. Our usual go to site was booked so we ended up at the Comfort Inn. We arrived and got to the room and found that the desk was covered in water (likely from the coffee maker which apparently had not been cleaned by housekeeping). Because it was late and we did not feel like moving we just used towels and cleaned it ourselves. The bathroom was tiny, you could barely turn around. Got up in the morning to go to breakfast. When we got there (about 1/2 hour before it ended) pretty much everything was gone. The waffle maker was broken, there were no more packages of cream cheese, there were no more little egg patties. They did bring more egg patties but that was all. The eggs were terrible when they did come and were not warm. There were kids running around and while there were parents present they were not paying any attention to these wild kids. The following night we left the window open and were awakened at like 4 AM because the garbage trucks came and they were outside our window. Breakfast the following morning was just as bad. this time there was no coffee for half the time. The waffle machine was working but people just left their waffles in there and let them burn. Same crazy kids running around, one dumped something that they were carrying on another patron. I will say that the front desk folks were very nice and there was plenty of parking. Because we are in the area often and have tried several hotels, we will NEVER come back to this one.
"comfort and value"

I stayed in here and was a bit concerned that this was going to be another chain lodging. Though it is part of a chain it was very nice. The rooms were very clean and orderly, the a/c worked perfectly. Though they were sold out you would never know it there is plenty of parking and big enough inside that you do not notice it was sold out. Compared to the other hotels in the area ie: the ( hotel somerset ) the comfort inn was a palace. From a very very friendly staff, to great rooms, to a spacious parking lot. I have stayed at a few other hotels in the area and for my money anytime I am in the area I am going to stay here, it is a few bucks not much more but still a few bucks more than some of the others but once you stay here you will agree it is a great value for your buck. The only thing I did not like was I was only here for 2 nights I would like to have stayed longer
"Friendly Staff...Great Breakfast Food!"

Special Thanks to Alin and Bryan the 2 desk clerks that smiled and did their job very well! Kudos! The hotel was quite clean, the room was very inviting and comfy! Lots of space,... the window even opened for some fresh air! The shower water pressure was the best! and oh,...the 24 hour coffee was a great treat! My husband and I and our 2 'hardest working house cats you will ever meet' had a very pleasant visit at the Comfort Inn in Somerset NJ! Thank you very much for the service, the free breakfast food and the free Internet Service! Well Done! Karen & Gregg McCandless,...and, Waffle the cat and Princess Tirzah too!
"Nice chain hotel"

My husband and I just spent 5 nights here while he was at a workshop. The staff were very friendly, the hotel was very clean, and the grounds are attractive and well-kept. It's a standard Comfort Inn in terms of appearance and amenities (but is 5 stories and a step up from the one or two level roadside place). The bed was comfortable, the internet connection (free) was pretty good, shower was nice and powerful, and there was a comfortable chair in the room. Breakfast was included in the rate, and this was the only downfall. After one morning, we did not take the breakfast again. Scrambled eggs were powdered (not uncommon in the free chain hotel breakfasts). There was only 1 toaster for the whole breakfast room (and it required 3 or 4 toasting cycles to achieve any sort of browning of the bread or bagel). There were make-your-own waffles (in blueberry flavor or plain), cereal (3 types), yogurt, bread for toast, bagels and creams cheese (peanut butter and jelly were provided also in case that was wanted instead of cream cheese), hardboiled eggs, and some fresh fruit (which wasn't very ripe-looking). While this is a decent spread for a free hotel breakfast in the US, there were some freshness problems. The bread was a bit stale. I got some milk for my cereal, and it was all I could do not to spit out the small (mercifully!) sip I took. The milk was so spoiled that it tasted like sour orange juice. My husband reported this to the breakfast attendant who looked skeptical -- if only he had tried it himself! At any rate, barring the breakfast, we had a good stay. There is a Ruby Tuesday restaurant across the street but no other food immediately nearby as the hotel is in sort of an office park location. Restaurants are fairly close by, however, if you have a car. The price of the hotel was $99 a night plus tax and seemed very fair for the area.

Overjoyed with our stay June 27-29 for the Jehovah's Witness International Assembly. The general manager Luis Orellana was friendly and professional as well as the rest of the staff, including maintenance and dining area. Room was excellent. Close to shopping plaza and I-95. Will reccommend to all. Very kid friendly with computer access and a pool.

I recently stayed at this hotel and found it to be a great value, particularly for a hotel in NJ. The room was well appointed and clean. The location was convenient to I 287 which made for getting around all areas of the state easy. The only downside was that when the AC was not running the room had a funky smell, once the fan was running for awhile all was OK. Overall a good place to stay.

I stayed here from 6/6/14 to 6/8/14 for the AnimeNext anime convention taking place at the Exhibition Center nearby. I stayed in a standard room with one other guest. The area: It was really close to other hotels. As in, within walking distance to the Exhibition Center and other events. It's also close to Rutgers University (short drive). No complaints. Facility: Great parking. It has most of the necessities you'd expect of a standard hotel, no bells and whistles but not too-high prices. The stuff in the room is a bit dated, though well-maintained. Shower also has decent flow- really important since you don't always see that at hotels. The fridge works too! Air conditioning/heating work fast since the rooms are smaller. I think the couches are all pullouts if you get a room with one, too. Breakfast: Not really "wow" or "blegh." I mean, it's free breakfast. They have a decent selection considering. Fruit, eggs, baked goods, juice, milk, coffee, tea, maybe some sausage sometimes, and I think a waffle iron. You're not going to want to gorge yourself, but it'll start the day off right if you pick healthy. Food is important and I think that they do an alright job with it. Noise level: Unless a frat rents out the entire hotel, I wouldn't expect it to get too bad. Walls are as thin as any other place, and it's still comfy. Service: This is where my "good" and "bad" comes in. I dealt with some pretty good front desk people, for the most part. Quick, efficient, yet polite and not making you feel like you're rushing. Mike, the front desk manager working the shift around 10:00PM on 6/6/14, did a great job putting up with my large requests. I asked for lots of toiletries and linens and he politely and professionally did what I asked. Kudos to him! I've been to a few four-star resorts in my lifetime and he consistently held a standard of professionalism and politeness equal to those places despite it being slightly past the end of his shift. Yeah, he was finishing up a late shift and he was STILL great. The night auditor for 6/6/14 past 10:30PM, an older gentleman with graying/slightly balding hair, was very discomforting. While I was getting my things from Mike, this other man gave me weird looks and made me feel uncomfortable with my requests (despite being a paying guest of the hotel). I went out to my car about 15 minutes later to go get my phone charger, and he saw it fit to discreetly follow me outside and take a texting break. Yeah, a texting break. He left the front desk unmanned during a 24/7 event either for a texting break, or to stalk a chubby guest in a t-shirt and pajama pants to make him feel even more uncomfortable. When I returned he equally-discreetly (obviously) followed me in, stood around at the front desk, and when I went to check out the ice machine he also decided to take a little break in the adjacent breakfast room. He must've thought I was stupid if I thought he was conveniently going in the same places as me to look at something *extremely* interesting on the phone. Again, that was the night auditor working past 10:30PM on 6/6/14, slightly older gentleman with greying/slightly balding hair. On another note, housekeeping did not come once in my three-day stay. Yep. I left a five-dollar tip on my desk and made absolutely *sure* my Do Not Disturb sign wasn't up (I couldn't find one in my room, but eh, front desk could've given me one). I'm pretty sure that five dollars is a generous tip for a mid-stay cleaning, so it couldn't have been a disgruntled maid. I'd have been really happy to see my room cleaned *once*. That'd have been great! Only time I met housekeeping was when they loudly banged on my door at 9AM on Sunday, 6/8/14 (checkout is at 11AM). I'm not asking for some fancy shore resort's level of service, I'm just asking for a quick turnover of the sheets and some dusting, maybe even some new towels if I'm lucky. Seriously, is it that hard? Overall: Stay at another hotel. I used to like this place a lot when it was Hampton Inn. They still have some very good and even a few excellent staff at the front desk despite one really (really) bad egg, but there are categories in which this place severely falls short. I actually work at a hotel part-time, and I know how hard a job it is. This also means that I'm very stingy about my money and know when a hotel is well-run. I wouldn't blow another $300 of my hard-earned money here, since the things which are lacking are really, really lacking. I really hope that everyone at the front desk besides the aforementioned night auditor gets praise for this review, since they do their jobs better than I'd expect them to under a lot of pressure. The lack of housekeeping and the unpleasant/rude night auditor are the reason I wouldn't stay here again.
"Average, Older, Fair Priced Option"
05/31/14 ProudDad9 Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Quick overnight stay while picking up son from Rutgers University. All other option were fully booked so I stayed here by default. Overall nothing great…but nothing terrible either. Front desk/check in was friendly and fast. Property is a bit dated, but was clean. I had a king room (not suite) and it was typical average size. Room had a slight funny odor and once again furnishings were pretty dated. No fridge. Biggest drawback was bathroom was VERY small. However, everything was clean. Simple breakfast is included, which is nice. Fairly typical option, but nice seating area and well managed by staff. There are other hotels I would choose before staying here, but I would stay again if preferred options were booked.
