In the interest of honesty I have stayed at this hotel on a prior visit to Rome. Therefore my interest in the hotel was solely based on prior experience. Pros. Towels, […] Soaps, etc. Location. Tucked away from a main arterial road. Cons Construction. The hotel was exercising rennovations on the side of the building we were located. This created an obstructed view & also made use of the veranda useless since there was tarps and debris strewn all over. No Wardrobe. The absence of a wardrobe/closet forced us to use furniture as a sort of apparel triage. Overall great hotel. However the location is close to the tram, not the subway as advertised. The tram is perfect for getting to the city center where most of the sites are. But it´s difficult to get to the vatican since the tram route from RIpa does not connect directly to the tram route to the vatican or the subway in spite of the maps located on […] the trains. At first glance, a mix of plushness, professionalism, and style, however, our experience proved not so. At check in, the staff was cordial but also terse, seemingly not so willing to engage. A request for assistance with a restaurant (given the proliferation of such in the neighborhood! and at 6 pm, so close to the dinner hour!) was met with a shoulder […] shrug, a couple of half heart-ed suggestions, and comments regarding the plenitude of available choices. The room, while not blue chip price, but not exactly low brow either, did not include wireless. While the aesthetic was cool and contemporary minimalism, the actual layout of the space was awkward; the tv is at an angle impossible to watch unless sitting directly in front on the edge of the bed, with the other half of the room identified by the huge bookshelf/room divider, almost empty except for a teensy weensy table barely large enough to hold a laptop, a chair, and REALLY HUGE PEEWEE HERMAN PUFFED BLUE kinda chair (for curling up being read a story to?). Great were the actual amenities including the quality of the bed, pillow, bathroom, etc. The next morning, the last of a long set of days of traveling, we eagerly awaited our breakfast meal. This typified our experience in that everything looked great but upon actual ingestion, the fruit was unripe, the bread, indifferent, and the presence of waiters i.e. humans, almost non-existent. We didn't expect much from this hotel given that we'd booked it the night before and were wary of it's super-modern design, but we LOVED IT! The receptionist upgraded us to a junior suite which had a HUGE wrap-around balcony, a huge living room, and a beautiful bedroom. We also had a beautiful view of the entire city, including the Vittorio Emmanuel […] II monument and the right bank of Rome. We loved the neighborhood, too. Great restaurants and lots to do while still being somewhat off the beaten tourist path. IF YOU HAVE A CAR: the hotel charges a bit of an expensive rate for parking on premises, but there is a Carrefour market with 24 hour automated parking garage literally a block away. Hotel Ripa is a gem of a hotel in an enchanting area that we felt truly gives you the "essence" of living in Rome. Hotel Ripa had very large rooms, especially by European standards. We had a sofa and kitchenette in our room. The desk was very helpful, and spoke excellent English. If you want to be in Trastevere, this is a great place to stay. It's close to the Tram and restaurants.

From the pictures on the website I expected more. I think that the hotel needed maintenance. The curse of the hotel design being clean lines and lots of light colored finishes is that when the finishes aren't completely maintained the overall look is shabby. My husband and I stayed at the hotel Ripa for five days on our honeymoon and then took a train to Sorrento for the remainder of our stay. The location was perfect- easy enough to catch a bus or the hop on and off tour bus to get around Rome. We selected this hotel based on the location, in/near Trestevere. It is really on the outskirts, at least from the main "fun" areas--those with the bars and restaurants and really charming streets. This part of the city does have those things, but not with the same youthful energy or concentration. Next time we'd find something closer to Piazza Santa […] Maria or at least on the other side of Via Trestevere. We walked over there every day, multiple times a day. The hotel was good, I do recommend it for a bargain and comfortable option in a quiet area. The room was fine and clean, but a little dated feeling. The free breakfast was a nice bonus, so I won't judge it too harshly. Fresh fruit, coffee, pastries, and some other cooked options were a good start to the day, but the neighborhood options offered better quality food (think coffee and pastries, cooked breakfast seemed scarce). The staff was friendly and helpful, everyone spoke English. The workout room was a bit limited, it is a one person room and had to be booked about an hour in advance. On arrival in the hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful and checked us in quickly. The room (513) was very dated and strangely laid out with wooden panelling enclosing the bed area and an additional living space complete with broken sofa bed. I was initially pleased to see that we had a balcony, however when we opened the shutters, we saw […] that the balcony was in the middle of a building site with scaffolding in front of and surrounding our balcony. There were no workmen because it was a public holiday, but we thought that they would return the next day (which they did). On requesting a change in rooms, the staff told us that we would be moved out of the building site the next day. We assumed that this would be to the modern part of the hotel which is advertised on their website (it was not and we basically got the same room, but instead of in the building site we were in the room next to the building site – Room 510). The rooms that we stayed in were not representative of any of the photos on the hotel’s website or on hotels.com. They could not have been further from the clean, modern rooms which Worldhotels is advertising. I found this very misleading and it put a downer on our otherwise great trip to Rome. It encouraged us to get out of the hotel and see Rome, but, being pregnant during our visit, I had intended on resting during the day in the hotel (not very inviting given the ugly room and noisy builders). Ripa hotel was very well located for seeing the sites of ancient Rome but was a bit out of the "main city". It was easy to catch the tram into the city and it was also accessible to the subway line via a bus stop a block from the hotel. The room was spacious and even included a small kitchenette. The location was not ideal for sightseeing, it is located in a quiet area of Rome. Tourist attractions are within walking distance but you may want to take a taxi or use the local bus service. Walkable to all the main areas of Rome, even with 2 young children in tow. The imediate area around the hotel is a bit scruffy but it's only a 10 mins walk to piazza maria which has a large selecton of shops, bars and restaurants. On the positive side; nice hotel and a very helpful staff. There's a tram almost right outside the hotel that'll take you to the city center in a couple of minutes. On the negative side; they charge an extra €3 per day in city taxes as well as €5 for 1 hour internet access. The breakfast buffet is okay but definitely not a 4* buffet.

Our room - a standard room was well equipped with a small Kitchenette and Sitting area and balcony. Room wasn't as modern as the rest of hotel though. We really enjoyed our long weekend at Hotel Ripa! We arrived at midday and were delighted to learn that our room was ready for us, even though check-in is from 2pm! We found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. The hotel has a clean, contemporary appearance with interesting architecture. We were really impressed with the breakfast in the hotel – it was a typical continental style buffet. These breakfasts set us on good stead for our busy days! The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the heart of Trastevere. Trastevere also has its own train station (which is a 20 minute walk from Hotel) – we found this very handy for getting to/from Rome Fuimicino airport. Hotel Ripa is a very decent location for sightseeing in Rome. We walked almost everywhere during our stay. You can walk to most of the main sights in under 40 minutes. The hotel is also well served by public transport. There is a tram stop on the main road near to the hotel, which takes you across the river to a fairly central square for €1. From this square you can catch a bus, tram or walk to most of Rome’s sights. Overall, I think the price we paid per night for our stay was a bit on the high side, however, we were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Ripa and would recommend this hotel to other travellers.
