      This was a great stay. The room was huge and comfortable with a nice canopy bed, plenty of storage, and a nice TV. View was amazing as we could see the ocean from our 3rd floor room. The bathroom was very large with a giant tub that easily fit 2. The shower was lovely and a nice size, though the water pressure could of been a bit better. The location of this hotel was perfect. We came in at Edinburgh Waverly and several buses (5, 44, 113, 24X) all stop RIGHT in front of the hotel. There is an ASDA (walmart super store) with a wonderful breakfast cafe about 10 minutes walk. Porto Bella is about 15 minutes away which is a gorgeous little beach front area with an amazing cafe in the swim center that makes homemade food. The bus will get you into Edinburgh in about 30-45 minutes. Edinburgh castle, Arthur's seat, the Parliament, etc is all there. One of the best hotels I have stayed in at a great price. The Bistro, Bar and Restaurant downstairs were good but very expensive.

      Very clean with excellent staff. Free breakfast was generous and tasty. About a 10 minute walk from Prince's Street. Great place for the money. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Thanks Hotels.Com.

    This hotel is in a poor neighborhood, not near any of the tourist locations we wished to visit. I didn't feel particularly safe and the room wasn't very nice. The bathroom was very small and I had difficulty operating the shower. It was not worth the money.

    It was one of those rooms where you don't know how many generations the mattresses have witnessed. The walls were not soundproof and it was hard to fall asleep with all the noise coming from all the other rooms. The breakfast was very plain and always the same, so for a 3-night stay it quickly became boring. The hotel charged a whopping 15 pounds […] a day for Internet connection, that was unstable and slow. Still, the rooms were made every morning and were clean when we came back. The location of the hotel was good and we didn't have to take the bus to visit the town. Overall for the relatively high priced charged for the room, we were very disappointed in what we had to sleep in. Read more

    Great customer service and very freindly staff. We stayed there whilst I completed the Edinburgh Marathon, it was perfectly situated about 1.5 miles away so walkable and a taxi back was too expensive. Great for local amenities and restaurants. Very good for price.

    We found the Herald House clean, comfortable and friendly. Buffet-style breakfast had all the usual requirements and there wasn't a spot of grease on the "Full Scottish". Less than a 10 minute walk to Princes Street so handy for all the central tourist spots with a selection of bars and restaurants close by.

    We felt safe and secure the whole time we stayed at this beautiful hotel. We had a wonderful breakfast every morning and then could go on our way and see the sights. By the time we had a spent another week there,we felt like family.     I think the title speaks for it self. If you get a good price and you´re just gonna sleep here then do it. If you want to spend some time in your room and look forward to a good breakfast, then get an other hotel.

    Das Herald House Hotel liegt nur scheinbar abseits von Edinburgh's Zentrum, ca 1,5 Km bis in die Prinzess Street bzw. dem Castel mit der Royal Mile. Die Zimmer sind zur Übernachtung ausreichend, das Doppelbett war gefühlte 1,40 breit. Das Frühstück war dem Preis angemessen, die Angestellten sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Täglich wurde das Zimmer gereinigt […] und es gab es frische Handtücher. Für eine Anreise mit PKW eher ungeeignet, da die Parkmöglichkeiten rund um das Hotel ausschließlich "Permit holders only". Ein öffentl. Parkplatz ca. 5 min. zu Fuss nahe der Haymarket Station kostete zu unserer Zeit für 24h, 9,90 GBP. Internet Hotspot ist im Hotel via Swisscom Eurospot möglich, des weiteren auch ein Hoteleigener PC gegen Bezahlung (ca.0,50 GBP/5 min). Preis/Leistung für 2 Sterne schwer in Ordnung. Read more

    Das Hotel liegt in Fußnähe zu der Altstadt. Ca. 10 min und man ist am Schloß. Der Grassmarket mit seinen vielen Pubs ist auch nicht sehr weit weg. Liegt am Fuß des Berges. Das Personal ist überaus freundlich und sehr hilfsbereit. Kann das Hotel empfehlen.

    Da wir zu zweit gereist sind, hatten wir ein Doppelzimmer im dritten Stock des Hotels (mehr Stockwerke hat das Hotel nicht) mit Blick auf den ruhigen Hinterhof. Das Zimmer war zwar klein, aber sehr zweckmäßig eingerichtet. Vor allem der typische Wasserkocher und der vorhandene (und täglich nachgefüllte) Vorrat an Tee, Kaffee und Milch und Zucker, sowie […] die immer wieder frischen dazugehörigen Tassen war sehr angenehm. Das Frühstück sollte man auf gar keinen Fall auslassen: sehr reichhaltiges 'cooked breakfast', aber auch Müsli, cornflakes und Toast mit Marmelade, dazu eine große Auswahl an Kaffeevariationen und Tee. Das Herald House Hotel liegt sehr zentral: ca. 5 Min. von einer Busstation entfernt, der einen, zu moderaten Preisen, ins Zentrum fährt. Zu Fuß ist man in ca.10-15 Minuten am Schloßberg und ca. 20 Minuten braucht man zur Princess Street (große Einkaufsstraße). Sainsburys-, co op- oder tescoladen, Pubs und kleine Restaurants findet man 'just around the corner'. Das Personal ist sehr hilfbereit und freundlich. Wir würden jeder Zeit wieder dorthin fahren.     Der einzige Kritikpunkt des Herald House Hotels war, dass die Matratze unseres Zimmers nicht die bequemste war - trotzdem bekamen wir alle Erholung, die wir brauchten. Das Bad war etwas kleiner als erwartet, dafür aber zweckmäßig. Genauso funktionsorientiert war der kleine Camping-Fernseher auf unserem Zimmer. Aber auch die einzigen fünf Programme […] konnten uns einen guten Überblick über das schottische Fernseh-Programm geben. Am besten am Herald House Hotel ist seine Lage in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Innenstadt von Edinburgh - von dort aus konnten wir alle unserer Ziele in der Stadt problemlos erlaufen. Das Frühstück war ein typisch Englisches mit Bohnen, Champignons, Würsten, gebratenem Schinken, Rührei und Spiegelei. Außerdem gab es Toast mit verschiedenen Marmeladen, Müsli (sehr zu empfehlen!) und Cornflakes, verschiedene Säfte und vom Automaten mehr Kaffee-Variationen als uns Tage zur Verfügung standen. Einzig die einheimische Milch blieb uns wegen ihres Nachgeschmacks in unguter Erinnerung - für Müsli kann man sie allerdings gut verwenden. Die Rezeptionisten waren jederzeit sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und konnten uns Informationen zu Busfahrplänen und lokalen Besonderheiten geben. Lobend erwähnen wir hier auch unseren Wasserkocher auf dem Zimmer, mit dem der gemütliche Abendtee oder -kaffee nie mehr als fünf Minuten entfernt war. Read more

Das Personal war immer freundlich, defekter Zimmersafe wurde nach Anfrage schnell wieder in Stand gesetzt. Im Bad gibt es die Möglichkeit, seine gewohnten Steckdosenstandard aus Deutschland einzusetzten.     Et rigtigt godt hotel, med rigtigt god service samt rigtigt god beliggendehed i forhold til alt. Dog kan man godt se at det er et ældre hotel, men udover dette er der ikke noget og sætte en finger på. Dette er et hotel jeg helt klart vil anbefal til andre.
