Finnstown Country House Hotel is outside of Dublin by quite a ways, although it was very convenient for the company I was visiting. You'll need a car or take a cab nearly everywhere - you *can* walk into Lucan, but it's a ways. If you like a semi-rural setting, this is great. I mistakenly left a yogurt cup on the tea tray in my room and it stayed there for the remainder of the visit, along with the dirty spoon. Staff at the front desk was always available and helpful, but a bit slow to respond. Everyone was very nice on all occasions. They all tried to help with anything that you asked about. Food was quite nice. I happened to be there for afternoon tea one day and it was *extremely* slow service. I was in the main house. The room was a nice size, everything like lights and water worked fine. There were enough pillows, blankets, and towels. The light over the bathroom mirror stayed on whenever your key was in the slot to keep the electricity on, so the bathrroom door stayed closed all night and I considered putting a towl under the bathroom door. We got caught in the Dubln floods driving back from the airport so didn't get in until well after midnight. The desk clerk was extremely friendly and helped us with our bags and managed to find us some sandwiches even though the kitchen was long closed. Breakfast was average. The Finnstown Country House Hotel was much more than we expected. The hotel itself is a beautiful country mansion, decorated as if a wealthy Irish family lives there. The staff was fantastic. We arrived about 9:30 am Dublin time and I asked the front desk if I could leave our bags somewhere until check in. The front desk clerk did one better - she checked […] us into a room! She called to a busy employee to perform the "room show". She walked us through the grounds to the building across from the main hotel to show us our family room. We were traveling with 5 total - Dad, Mom and 3 kids. The room had a double and single bed with another single cot set up. We ate breakfast, swam in the pool and walked around a bit before having to nap off some jet lag. We went back to the room about noon and a second cot was set up and ready to sleep in - we never even asked. The room was very spacious and well appointed, nicely decorated, and had heavy drapes that blocked out the sunlight quite well.. There was a round, wooden coffee table with two chairs that were befitting of a dining room. There was a large wooden armoire with drawers, shelves, and plenty of space for hanging clothes (we packed light, but all 5 of us got 4+ days worth of clothes in there). A flat panel tv was mounted on the wall. There was also a desk and chair with internet available (paid serviced only; no wifi in the room, wired only). We were tired and although the ride was full of interesting things, colorful neighborhoods and pubs, a tiny castle, we were let off by the very helpful bus driver to face a long driveway. Lot's of people get married there. We watched a trad music group perform in the garden our first night. One of the owners, when he found out I was a restauranteur gave me a tour. He was filled with interesting factoids and I think was showing me around because he was proud to be a part of this great tradition. The front desk could not have been more helpful even helping us avoid men from the pub in town who wanted to track us down. Food was excellent, and oh, the bathtub! You could swim in it. Towels were fluffy, everything was spotless. Having coffee in our little breakfast nook, watching the peacocks and the magpies in the morning.... I missed this place all the rest of our stay. There were many amenities like tennis, pool, steamroom we did not use but it was nice to know they are there. Half way between Dublin City Center and Finnstown is a pub called The Gate. Stay at Finnstown, have a Jameson at the Gate and you will be in Irish heaven....Oh and tell them Barbara and Betsy from Wisconsin sent you! Read more

The hotel is beautifully luxurious. The only problem we encountered is the return of our rental and having difficulty returning to the hotel due to the lack of public transportation. It would be a terrific location for anyone on a honeymoon or family vacation with a car.

As I am a carer for my husband who is brain injured and is 24x7 care, this was my first time to stay away from home in two and a half years. We went up for my cousin wedding which I must say was a brilliant day food wedding and accomadation was excellent. I had booked and paid for the hotel with my daughter Evelyn card as it would not accept my Laser […] card and it cost €115. I recieved conformation of the booking paid in full from hotel .com but when I went to give in my door cards I was told I owed €108 I said there must be a mistake as I had fully paid for the hotel the girl said no that the hotel did not take money of anyone until they were checking out I did'nt know which way to look as I was standing in a row of people all related looking at me as if I would'nt pay my bill. I felt humilated and all the joy of the day before quickly disappeared.It is with great regret that after such an enjoyable stay that I would not really recomend your hotel due to the service from the front desk. I would not like to see this happening to my mum or a older person. Read more

It's difficult to find a dog-friendly hotel in Ireland so finding this one was great. They accommodated my dog for a small extra charge and we were made to feel welcome. The house, grounds and facilities were superb. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to family and friends. Great!

I have marked this hotel down to 3/5 because it is a 2.5 - 3* rating in my opinion. There was a big ball of hair between the beds which was not that nice to find. The beds were comfy and the room was warm. Food was lovely and the staff were very friendly.

We stayed at this hotel for one night as we were travelling with our small dog. Unfortunately our accomodation was actually a "golf lodge" a short distance from the hotel. The furniture which was a pink colour was badly soiled as was the carpet. The bathroom had a collection of dead ants located behind the bathroom door and some live ones were noted […] there also. These faults were outlined to the receptionist the following morning and she kindly agreed not to charge us 20 E surcharge for cleaning of the room which is required when a pet stays. Pity as the hotel itself looked nice and the grounds were lovely. Sorry to say I would not recommend nor stay here again :-( Read more

Firstly I want to say that the hotel itself is situated on lovely grounds the building itself is very quaint and the hotel was clean. I came home tired and stressed this is due to the fact that our "family room" was situated directly inside the entrance to all rooms which continuosly slammed shut each time someone entered. Friday night we had to listen […] to this until the early hours. Saturday night due to a wedding party we were subject to continuous loud talk from what could only be described as the most rude and drunken guests. At three in the morning we had to listen to someone in the room above us wretching totally inapppropriate at which point I had to walk to the main building to complain to the night porter. The hotel itself is very quaint but when booking guests with families should be placed away from if possible a wedding party. I would not reccomend this hotel to my friends or family, I was extremely dissapointed and my sons first trip to the zoo was overshadowed by our lack of sleep. Read more

The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and the hotel has an old world charm. The room was comfortable and clean. The main attraction is, however the wonderfully helpful reception staff. I had a large amount of printing to do as I had to make a business presentation. There was a paid printer but it cost 50 cents a page!. The receptionist offered to […] do the printing (about 450 pages) with the hotel charge being 10 cents a page. When I collected it she said that was too much and charged about 6 cents per page only.
