Public areas of hotel we're quite smart. They have created a modern hotel while maintaining the traditional features. The food in the bistro was fantastic. However the comfort of the room did not reflect the rest of the hotel. The bathroom sink had a huge crack in it and the rest of the bathroom was very tired looking. The bed was very uncomfortable you could actually feel the matress springs digging into you as you tried to sleep. However with a bit of refurbishment I would certainly return. Great value for money.

Stayed here a few times now. It is satisfactory but definitely in need of refurbishment. Fixtures and fittings are dated and makes it all seem a bit drab.

The hotel was clean and staff very friendly. The executive room we booked was not to a good standard with a chipped bath, leaking tap and part of the tap missing, bathroom had a flaking ceiling and a few minor left overs of the previous guests finished of a below average room. Never mind executive.

Nice hotel in central Carlisle. Obviously gest a lot of tourist traffic (a coach load of Chinese visitors on the night I was there). A bit heavily priced for what it is

It's a nice Hotel, a bit old in places but clean. But the rooms are so hot and you can only open the window about two inches so can't get and air flow into room! No fans available either! So with a 12 month old it was a long night!

I stayed here with my husband the night before my graduation at the nearby Carlisle Cathedral. The staff are very smiley, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was served buffet style and we could choose whatever we wanted from a good selection of hot and cold food. Our bags were stored for later in the day after we had checked out which was very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay here and would choose this hotel again if we visited Carlisle in the future.

Excellent location for visitng city. Even though my room overlooked station it was quiet. Good size room, but would've liked a hair dryer in it. Breakfast was good, but could have been hotter. Was happy with my stay and would recommend this hotel.

Having stayed in the Hallmark Carlisle twice before, I knew what to expect - the hotel reception and bar area are lovely, but rooms are dark, dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. This particular room (314) was especially dark, very small with hardly any room to walk around the bed. The bathroom was even smaller with hardly any room to even shower properly! The ceiling and walls were cracked and I doubt the room was cleaned very well as I seen hairs (and not from the head kind) in the shower tray just as I was going to bed - so not the best time to complain or ask to switch rooms. In all I was extremely underwhelmed with my Hallmark Carlisle experience and will probably not book again.

The reception area and public rooms were very attractive. Unfortunately the guest rooms were very disappointing. The décor was very dated and the cleanliness could have been better. The shower area was dirty - the shower curtain had mould on it as well as the shower base surround. The breakfast was reasonable but a problem with the chef meant that all of the breakfast food was not available at the same time - the breakfast staff were very good but let down by the absence of the chef. The price paid was not good value.

I looked at the pics of this hotel and thought I would give it a go. Boy was I disappointed when I got there my room was very out dated and old the view was what looked like a condemned building. The toilet was so close to the bath. For the 2 days the wifi broke and no one fixed it no matter how many times I asked. The TV was so unresponsive it took over 10 mins to go though the EPG. On the plus side the food was ok and the staff in the food area were nice and helpful

The Hallmark is RIGHT next to the station. Literally a few metres from the exit. Being in the centre, it's well located for nearby bars and restaurants. That being said, it's surprisingly quiet!

Hotel was well situated beside the train station and 2 minutes walk into the main shopping area. Room was clean and airy, though the room we had I thought was a bit small for a double room. Not a lot to choose from on the evening menu, and wasn't impressed with the meal we had on our first night. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Would certainly stay at this hotel again, though not for the food.

We were attending a wedding at the famous Gretna Green in Scotland. We went to the lake district and stayed at Carlile as it was only ten miles from Scotland. Sunday night was quiet with space for the car in the hotel car park. Staff were very friendly and the room was comfortable.

Very friendly staff. Room was fine, plaster on walls was flaking in places, but clean. Large bathroom with corner bath and shower. Mattress was soft, not ideal if you have back problems! Breakfast was excellent. Great service, lots of choice and good quality food. Overall I would stay here again.

Good location, right outside the station. Breakfast was very good and the staff there are exemplary. Reception is sometimes good, sometimes bad. Overall, not a bad hotel (no real facilities - just Bed&Breakfast) but then, in Carlisle, there's not much choice at all!

The location is great - it's just outside the train station and city centre is within walking distance. The room was nice and it had been refurbished - I doubt the non-refurbished rooms would have been good at all as I have seen pictures of mould, bad repair, etc on Trip Advisor. Breakfast was very nice and the service there was top notch-impressed. But, the service at reception by a lady named Kelsey was disappointing to say the least. Upon checkout, she demanded that I pay 60p for a newspaper which I should not have had to pay for as it was included within my package as was Wi-Fi and breakfast. I asked 4 times to clarify this as I was sure I did not have to pay for it. I paid for it by credit card so I had written proof of payment. I then checked my booking details online and it confirmed that the newspaper was free. I went back and showed it to her and a Manager then came and resolved it by giving me a refund - no apology whatsoever from the receptionist. It's not the money but the principle that she tried to get me to pay for something without even checking to see if it was complimentary or not. Anyway, the end result was positive.

I aws very pleased overall the room was warm and comfortable the free wi fi was fast and only dropped vsignal once. Its an old building so hence not perfect I had specifically requested a quiet room so mine was not overlooking the busy cebtre of Carlisle on Black Eye Friday nice to have full freeview on the tv bed very comfortable paid for breakfast in the deal but had to lkeave very early so di not take it

Located next door to the railway station, literally 60 seconds from the platform to the hotel reception. Also very close to Carlisle's main shopping area, pubs, restaurants etc, so some noise on weekend evenings. All the staff I encountered were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. Hotel could do with a spruce up, bathroom had seen better days and the window in the bedroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years.

I Was looking for a romantic hotel away and when the castle ruin came up I clicked on the info about the hotel and It sounded lovely , false advertisement . Rooms where taty even after looking around a 3rd room . £200 for 2 nights stay . No thank you . Staff very helpful for relocating me and my pregnant woman to a more pleasant and romantic hotel .

Location of hotel was good right next to train station although if youre driving then parking is poor be prepared to spend at least £10 on an overnight car park if you don't get lucky with a space in their own car park. Room was definitely not 4 star more like 3 star. Wallpaper hanging off wall at the top near telly about an inch thick of dust underneath the wardrobe damaged furniture. Don't get me started on bathroom it was really dated and had black mould in the grout a little you expect but this was a lot the bathroom looked like it hadnt been properly cleaned in its life, the only reason we didn't complain is because service was good, bed was really comfy and breakfast was fantastic. All you can eat continental and cooked. You would be better with a travelodge or premier inn room wise as you know what to expect. Fair enough we had a cheaper room (about £80) but you expect more from a 4 star and a better cleaner bathroom that is worse than you're own home. You pay for a bit of luxury away from home but you won't get it in room 109 anyway!!!!

I was staying one night only for business and booked last minute so got a great rate. On arrival I was given an upgraded room as I had asked for a quiet room on the online booking. Room was clean and fresh. Good breakfast in the morning with staff accomodating all reqiuests for various eggs etc which were served with a smile. Small point but a full size hairdryer was provided. Much better that those tiny ones with only 12 inches of lead. Great location in centre of town next to station. Car park is down a small alley and as I came across this first I was a little lost as to where the entrance to the hotel actually was. Could do with more lighting and a sign pointing you along the road. Would I stay again. Yes, without hesitation

The location of the hotel was fine, very central. The public rooms, bars, breakfast area, were really good, well decorated and very comfortable and the service was great, friendly and efficient . However, the bedroom was far too hot, and as the hotel is next to the station, was noisy when the window was open, not to mention the seagulls. The pillows were too hard ( we went out to buy some for the second night) . The hallway outside the room (210) smelled really strongly of damp. The wifi was a bit of a pain, I had to ask for password etc three times, only to discover that I could have had a 48 hour 'pass' in the first place which would have prevented some trouble on my part and on the part of staff. Overall disappointing and we will most likely not use this hotel,again.

This hotel feels like it is in a period of improvement. The rooms are pleasant, comfortable and have a feel of being of better quality than, say, a Premier Inn but for similar money. The restaurant was relaxed and the food was good (dinner and breakfast).

Our room (Rm 102) overlooked a small alleyway that was also the bucket area for a few of the local pubs so we got a constant noise of bottles being dumped. It was a also a one way road and seemed to attract a lot of cars (ALL NIGHT) for such a small alley and because it was so enclosed the noise seemed to be amplified and there was NO double glazing in the hotel. There was also no air conditioning and as it was the height of summer the room was stiflingly hot and we couldn't open the windows because of the noise. This all combined for a totally, 100% sleepless night. The staff were pleasant enough and breakfast ok, but nothing special. When we checked out, we were told thanks and your bill is covered - as it should be as we paid in advance through Expedia - but no one asked how our stay was or if everything was ok. I guess they knew what the answer would be as they'd heard it all before. I certainly would never stay there again unless I could pick another room away from the noise - in fact, even then I don't think I'd stay there again.

Lovely old building, really clean bedroom and they make you feel welcome. Shame about breakfast where the pastries were dry and stale and the hot food was luke warm.

Staff very friendly and helpfull, breakfast very good, close to railway station.Able to leave car a the hotel for an extra night after leaving the hotel, which was helpfull to us

My stay in The Hallmark Hotel exceeded all my expectations. The staff went above and beyond to be helpful and we received a very warm welcome. We were out early to attend an event and although breakfast was due to start at 8am they made it available from 4am!! The room was spotless and decorated to a high standard. The hotel is right outside the train station too and Carlisle itself was lovely.

Although we very we only stayed for one night my wife and I were very pleased with the quality of the hotel from the moment we entered.The staff were helpful courteous and knowledgeable ,the room was spotless and well furnished. We will definitely be returning.
