staff could not do enough for us service exceptional only problem the hotel was too warm thats my only complaint. Breakfast to die for excellentGenuine Hotels.com guest review
for an overnight stay, travelling by train, it couldn't be closer to the station... other reviews have mentioned tired old rooms but mine was fine... would have been nice to work out how to turn on the radiator though..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean, Tidy and Comfortable"
Very clean and nice hotel. Got there before two and they have strict Two PM booking deadline. Restaurant service extremely good and food not bad but not as lovely as it looks on menu.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not really 4 star"
bathrooms are old with new tiles, not really 4 starGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was excellent, very good value for money and in an ideal location. The only disappointment was that the bathroom decor was a little dated. Perfectly functional thoughGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great hotel, amazingly convenient for the Station and (in my case) the Company I was visiting. The staff were wonderfully welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. I would stay there again without reservation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ideal for the train"
Located next door to the railway station, literally 60 seconds from the platform to the hotel reception. Also very close to Carlisle's main shopping area, pubs, restaurants etc, so some noise on weekend evenings. All the staff I encountered were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. Hotel could do with a spruce up, bathroom […] had seen better days and the window in the bedroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"unhappy with room"
the downstairs was nice but the room was awful. the room was very cold, the bathroom could do with an update and shower curtain not hygienic and was dirty. cover on top of sheet was dirty with stains on it. for the number of stars and the price i had hoped for a better roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I Was looking for a romantic hotel away and when the castle ruin came up I clicked on the info about the hotel and It sounded lovely , false advertisement . Rooms where taty even after looking around a 3rd room . £200 for 2 nights stay . No thank you . Staff very helpful for relocating me and my pregnant woman to a more pleasant and romantic hotel […] . "Room was not 4 star"
Location of hotel was good right next to train station although if youre driving then parking is poor be prepared to spend at least £10 on an overnight car park if you don't get lucky with a space in their own car park. Room was definitely not 4 star more like 3 star. Wallpaper hanging off wall at the top near telly about an inch thick of dust underneath […] the wardrobe damaged furniture. Don't get me started on bathroom it was really dated and had black mould in the grout a little you expect but this was a lot the bathroom looked like it hadnt been properly cleaned in its life, the only reason we didn't complain is because service was good, bed was really comfy and breakfast was fantastic. All you can eat continental and cooked. You would be better with a travelodge or premier inn room wise as you know what to expect. Fair enough we had a cheaper room (about £80) but you expect more from a 4 star and a better cleaner bathroom that is worse than you're own home. You pay for a bit of luxury away from home but you won't get it in room 109 anyway!!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good central hotel, smooth stay."
I was staying one night only for business and booked last minute so got a great rate. On arrival I was given an upgraded room as I had asked for a quiet room on the online booking. Room was clean and fresh. Good breakfast in the morning with staff accomodating all reqiuests for various eggs etc which were served with a smile. Small point but a full […] size hairdryer was provided. Much better that those tiny ones with only 12 inches of lead. Great location in centre of town next to station. Car park is down a small alley and as I came across this first I was a little lost as to where the entrance to the hotel actually was. Could do with more lighting and a sign pointing you along the road. Would I stay again. Yes, without hesitation Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Ok Location; Rooms satisfactory"
An ok and central location but not in the best of areas. The picture on the website is very misleading.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok for a short stay"
The location of the hotel was fine, very central. The public rooms, bars, breakfast area, were really good, well decorated and very comfortable and the service was great, friendly and efficient . However, the bedroom was far too hot, and as the hotel is next to the station, was noisy when the window was open, not to mention the seagulls. The pillows […] were too hard ( we went out to buy some for the second night) . The hallway outside the room (210) smelled really strongly of damp. The wifi was a bit of a pain, I had to ask for password etc three times, only to discover that I could have had a 48 hour 'pass' in the first place which would have prevented some trouble on my part and on the part of staff. Overall disappointing and we will most likely not use this hotel, again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel right in the middle of the city"
This hotel feels like it is in a period of improvement. The rooms are pleasant, comfortable and have a feel of being of better quality than, say, a Premier Inn but for similar money. The restaurant was relaxed and the food was good (dinner and breakfast).Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good for what we wanted"
Good quality hotel for the price we paid. Room a little tired and sink was damaged in bathroom. Food good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ample but overpriced"
Hotel was a little disappointing as it wasn't as good as it looked in the pictures. The bathroom looked really old and, although perfectly clean, it felt grotty. Definitely needs a refurb. On the plus side, the bed was really comfortable, staff are friendly and helpful and its a convenient central location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel, fab location"
I though the staff were lovely and very helpful. Liked the idea of the biscuits that were left with tea making facilities.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Noisy, hot, noisy and hot"
Our room (Rm 102) overlooked a small alleyway that was also the bucket area for a few of the local pubs so we got a constant noise of bottles being dumped. It was a also a one way road and seemed to attract a lot of cars (ALL NIGHT) for such a small alley and because it was so enclosed the noise seemed to be amplified and there was NO double glazing […] in the hotel. There was also no air conditioning and as it was the height of summer the room was stiflingly hot and we couldn't open the windows because of the noise. This all combined for a totally, 100% sleepless night. The staff were pleasant enough and breakfast ok, but nothing special. When we checked out, we were told thanks and your bill is covered - as it should be as we paid in advance through Expedia - but no one asked how our stay was or if everything was ok. I guess they knew what the answer would be as they'd heard it all before. I certainly would never stay there again unless I could pick another room away from the noise - in fact, even then I don't think I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The best hotel I've ever stayed in!"
My stay in The Hallmark Hotel exceeded all my expectations. The staff went above and beyond to be helpful and we received a very warm welcome. "Nice staff but uncomfortable rooms."
The common areas are nice but the rooms are small and uncomfortable specially the beds. The surroundings are noisy. The staff was very helpful .Genuine Expedia guest review
"So convenient for Carlisle station"
i.e. right outside the station. Trains not a problem, but the revellers of Botchergate can be. Actually,it could not be more convenient, even free parking if you get there early enough although the pigeons appear well fed. Father-in-law comes by train and gets a good rate as a regular. Rooms all we need .Breakfast good, kippers etc by request.Dinner a […] bit pricey but good choice for a Carlisle hotel. Will be staying again and always enjoy it. If you need anything just ask. "Nice hotel but....."
Nice central hotel, comfy beds, breakfast good and nice public areas. Let down by a small non-adjustable shower with nowhere to put toiletries, a nasty coffee stain on the bedroom wall which should have been spotted and cleaned, and toilet that wouldn't flush without a struggle. Staff second to none which made it an enjoyable stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Central for sure"
Adequate room for our two night stay neither too big or too small, bathroom was okay but shower recess would have been better rather than fancy oval shaped bath. Staff were very good if a little at sea with the Australian accent and sense of humour. Food very good. Location excellent being at front door of railway station - 30 metre walk door to do […] or! "location and service"
located right next to Carlisle Station this was a great one night break for a 70th birthday. Room and bed were in good order. Our dinner was top class and breakfast was decent too. Handy both for city centre shopping and for the bus route AD122 which takes you along Hadrians Wall this has both location and service to commend it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Reasonable enough hotel"
Reception staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Reception area including the bar is inviting and modern, though some areas of the hotel need updating! Breakfast was nice, albeit a bit cold when it got to our room...probably due to no plate covers. Our bathroom was dated and a bit creepy I thought. Not somewhere you'd want to take a relaxing soak. […] It did us fine for our purposes, but the old windows didn't close properly and despite the secondary glazing we could still hear noise from the pubs in the lane underneath and the late night revellers making their way to the taxi rank through it. It hasn't deterred me from booking it again, as decent hotels in Carlisle are few and far between, but I wouldn't rave about it.. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, wonderful food and service!"
The staff is absolutely wonderful. They make a genuine effort to get to know who is staying with them, they easily remember names and preferences and they really work as a team. "next to train station"
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The BEST part of my stay was the dinners and breakfasts. I was amazed at the quality and creativity of the food, amazing. "Convenient and good value"
The staff were friendly and very helpful. Parking was easy. The bedroom was clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was very nice however little things like wine glasses that were dirty and had lipstick staines on them, hair on the bath tiles and the room had obviously had a water leak at some point in the past as there were marks all over the ceiling and wall. "Over night stay"
Lovely hotel central to the shops, pubs and train station. Ideal for a short stay, staff very pleasant, lovely food. Our room was small but very nice, other people we went with had much larger rooms. Will definitely use this hotel on our next visit to Carlisle.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A very pleasant hotel with excellent staff"
A clean and tidy hotel in central Carlsle. Staff were friendly and efficient. Brakfast was plentiful, although suffered as all Hot Buffet Breakfasts in all hotels do that Hot plates do not keep piping hot. Room was very comfortable, tidy and clean. As the hotel is in a very central location, noise can be heard from nearby ubs, but this is not the hotels […] fault and can be accounted for. We would book this hotel again when we visit Carlisle again Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The room was very comfortable and clean. It was a little noisy as the room faced a busy town square, but the service was good and the amenities were fine. The breakfast was good and the staff very pleasant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room uncomfortably hot."
Although in general the room was nice, there were boxed off hot water pipes around the out side of it which gave off quite a bit of heat despite the radiator being turned off. This meant the room was generally uncomfortably hot all of the time, we had to sleep on top of the covers to get a good nights sleep and though we didn't spend a huge amount of […] time in the room when we were we had to strip off to stay comfortable. There was no air-con and the windows wouldn't open so there was nothing we could do to cool it down. Additionally, late on saturday night we were kept up late until 1am because of very load music being played in the bar behind the hotel, this wasn't an issue on the Friday night. Outside of the room everything was great, breakfast was very good, staff pleasant and service good etc... just the heat in the room that let it down. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Pros:Staff were nice, breakfast was good, location is super convenient. quiet in the hotel. Cons: Bit tired looking room and Car park is really tight. Overall, would stay againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Perfect location in centre of Carlisle. Parking was a problem. Cost us £6 for one overnight in railway car park. Rooms small but clean. Breakfast was rather tepid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was small but clean apart from Damp patches on the ceiling. It was a Saturday night When we Stayed and extremely noisy outside which is not really the hotels fault .Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Don't be deceived by photo- it is just the view no"
Disappointed that what was on initial caption was not the place u stay- it gives false impression. "Good location for exploring Carlisle"
Decent hotel in excellent location for exploring Carlisle, easy walk to the high street. Parking was well behind the hotel and a bit of a walk with cases, pity they have no attached parking or underground parking. That said, we were allowed to leave car in park after we checked out to give us time to visit the castle, at the end of the high street. […] I found the hotel at the last minute so was able to get King size room at reduced price. The room was good but needed more lighting in it, otherwise well-kitted out. "Ticked all boxes!"
Unbelievably close to Carlisle Train Station. The service of the hotel staff was just wonderful - having a lucky dip for a little something in the hotel was such a nice touch. We had a corner room where we had an amazing view of the city's Citadel & surrounding areas. The room was very comfortable - the shower however was a little tricky to work. Overall […] my partner & I thought it was just a great stay in one of the nicest little towns in the UK. Thanks Hallmark, we will see you again. Highly recommended!
