"Great place to stay ~ very friendly staff"
Was traveling with my handicapped father, the front desk clerk allowed me to look at the two handicapped rooms that were available to assist me in determining the right one for him, this was extremely helpful. The night we stayed at this hotel was the same day Iowa State had a home game so I was expecting plenty of noise, but to my surprise my room […] was quiet and I didn't hear anything all night. I will certainly stay at this hotel again Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Iowa state fair"
Furniture was too big for the room. It was set up for a single businessman/woman, not a couple. The table was in the way most of the time. The bed was very soft as were the pillows. The fan in the bathroom ran at a low speed only. The room was very clean. Towels were readily available from the front desk. Breakfast was surprisingly complete. Parking […] was great. The lot was very well lit. THe thermostat in the rom actually worked!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Miss Lisa for president!"
I think Miss Lisa is the best ambassador that Hampton could possibly have! Andrew was also a very pleasant to work with at the front desk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good but overpriced"
Great Service, friendly staff. But a bit overpriced for the level of comfort and size of the roomsGenuine Expedia guest review
Room was very clean and nice, Staff was helpful. Our room view faced an air conditioner so that wasn't very good, but everything else was fantastic. There were ALOT of kids at the hotel, but I did not hear a peep in the hallways. Breakfast was also very good and well stocked. I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Will stay again and recommend to friends and fam"
i came into town early and i was able to check in way earlier than the check in time, so I really liked the way they handled my situation.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great breakfast and service... however it was not within walking distance to any bars or entertainment so a cab is a must to get around if you don't want to deal with parking. We also went on a weekend that there was some sort of college gathering so it took over an hour to get a cab at 10pm!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not so clean..."
Upon arrival we were greeted by the night manager. He was very polite and helpful. Our key cards only worked after the 3rd try so we swapped them the next day. Upon closer inspection the room had obviously not been cleaned to the usual Hampton standard... Dirty vents with lots of dust in the bathroom and something stuck to the walls that should have […] come off with a wet rag, but was left there. There were long black hairs in the bed and we're both blonde. I found a water bottle under the dust ruffle making me wonder when the last time a vacuum was under there. We were on the first floor so we heard kids running and screaming on their way to the pool all day. But on top of all that, the least professional thing I saw was during my complimentary breakfast. I was the only guest there and I felt completely our of place as the staff chatted loudly to each other about the hiring of new employees over themselves and how they don't make enough money. Very inappropriate. Wow, guess there was more to complain about than I thought. We won't stay again, even with the proximity to the university. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good place to stay all around"
We had a king room. We were up in Ames for a weekend. I knew I was going to have to work while I was there. The hotel offered free wifi but it was quite obvious they had a fairly low speed DSL connection that caused some headaches. Breakfast closed up a bit earlier than the 11AM posted, but the spread wasn't bad. Some sort of eggs, meat, oatmeal, biscuits […] and gravy one day, a waffle maker, pastries, and cold options. Overall the hotel and the room was clean and comfortable. The only real issue was that someone was obviously smoking on our floor. We ran across the front desk person on there and I mentioned something. I got a non-committal "yeah, someone is" and nothing was done about it. Thing is, in the State of Iowa, smoking in a public building like that is illegal. Lastly, the rooms have very nice, large flat panels. Unfortunately, they're all locked into the hotel's Lodgenet system, so you can't plug in anything or use alternate video sources (so they can get you to buy their PPV and built-in game system). I didn't really care, but I would have liked the option. When we travel yearly for our anniversary we bring our wedding video and a laptop. Had this been that trip I would have been very disappointed. Still, please don't take the above as all there was to our stay. They say you only remember the bad. Overall despite these issues our stay was very nice and I would definitely go back (as long as I wasn't going to need a true high-speed internet connection again) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"In room dining"
After a long drive we decided to get take out food and eat in the room. There was a table, but no chairs. Eating on the bed was not an option, so standing was the way we went.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I'll stay here again"
I came down to visit my son for the weekend - very nice staff, fresh baked cookies in the lobby (not that I needed one) I left a note requesting extra coffee the first morning and when I came back that evening they had left me 6.Genuine Expedia guest review

Hotel was a little dated and in need of some upgrading. For the price, expected more. Also, sofa bed did not have clean sheets on it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was typical. Very friendly staff and a quiet room. But, the best part was the Bathtub made the stay if was so comfortable and clean it was truly the best part of my stay. The front desk help was prompt and very friendly. He was not the most knowledgeable regarding local restaurants as he recommended Pizza Ranch a very chain restaurant not exactly local

I stayed here for a full week for business. I stayed in a room with a king bed. It was clean and more than enough room for one person. Really enjoyed having a desk with a really nice office chair. Made it very comfortable to complete work in my room. Breakfast wasn't amazing, but it was pretty good for a free hotel breakfast. No complaints there. Staff was always welcoming. It happened to be a busy week because of a High School Choir and Band competition. Hotel was full of high school students which made for a really crowded morning trying to find a spot to sit for breakfast in the lobby. Also the students were louder than your average hotel patron. Thankfully the hotel provided earplugs! Overall I had a good experience at this location.
"Nothing To Rave About"

There was a football game at Trice Stadium and the State Music Awards were also being held at ISU. Despite the semester having gone on break for the Thanksgiving holiday we were unable to get accommodation at our default to Best Western in Ames; so, we booked and checked into the Hampton Inn. Our room was not ready when we arrived in the early afternoon, but, I can't fault them for that - as their check-in policy does state 3 p.m. However, they graciously got housekeeping right on the job of preparing our room, which we were able to get into shortly thereafter and that goes for a lot in my book. Though the room was clean, the sofa had long since seen better days; it was... shabby. As for breakfast, though the Hampton Inn is a Hilton affiliate, you really wouldn't know it by the breakfast's... quality. The cooked eggs on offer the first morning were mediocre - at best, and the 'sausage' was a dry, turkey-product that had plenty of filler in it and little to speak of by way of taste. However, the lady supervising the breakfast was anxious to please. She approached the table and asked if we'd like 'a fresh biscuit.' Sadly, the product presented shortly thereafter was inedible; it was crumbling/over-cooked on the outside, followed by... a layer of what can only be characterized as mush and, then, a still frozen center. If it weren't for the cleanliness and overall desire to please that was demonstrated by the courteous staff I would give this establishment a lower rating. The Hampton Inn of Ames needs to sort out their breakfast service [we went out for breakfast the second morning] and update their tired sofas for starters. There's nothing they can do to improve their location, which is much farther from the University and/or Campus Town than other lodgings.

The hotel exit is right off 35W. We were able to checkin early. The facilities and our room were clean and fresh. Two queen beds were very fluffy and comfortable. Free breakfast was very good! Staff was very helpful.

Top notch hotel in this price range. Super friendly staff, eager to help. Great breakfast with a hostess that will have you in stitches and make sure you have plenty of good things to eat. The fitness room is very small, but met my needs. The pool area was clean and well cared for.

We had a wonderful stay here in Ames. The front desk workers were very friendly and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The beds are a little small but it worked for us. The breakfast in the morning offered a variety of food which included fresh fruit!

I would recommend this property to anyone traveling in this area. The rooms were very clean and comfy. Very quite so much so it was if we were the only ones staying. The staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast lady was so very nice. She will be one person I will remember for a long time. I wish I would have gotten her name.
"another great visit"

This is not the first time we have stayed here. The front desk remembered our last visit. The room was ready on checkin. The room was clean and this time the heater was working. The wifi was also pretty fast. My son hooked up his Playstation and did not have any problems with the wifi system. We were on the second floor and it was also very quiet. I requested late checkout last minute and it was no problem. Would highly recommend this hotel. The price is high for a Hampton Inn but all the other hotels around Ames are the same.
