"Close to everything"
This hotel was perfect for our night on the town! The sky walk to the van Andel was excellent in the snow blizzard! The rooms were old but remodeled to a trendy decor! Loved it! Also had a great view of the Van Andel and the BOB! Was a great hotel for my husband and I! If the kids were with us the pool look large and we would have had lots of fun there […] too! "Great location for arena events"
The hotel was very conveniently located in downtown Grand Rapids, with heated walkways to the arena and convention center. On site parking was easy. The pool was decent, although with too high a chlorine level. My main complaint would be the pillows. Very small and very hard. The bed was alright, but was a double. the staff was very friendly and efficient. we liked the valet service for parking. the restaurant connected to the hotel was very good and quick. Loved the skywalk connection to the Van Andel arena, However our room was very warm...we could not open the windows becuase of a storm raining against it...but it was hot and very dry all night..not sure if […] the thermostat was working, we had it turned down but it never got cooler..there was no microwave even though I was told all rooms come with micro/refridgerator..which that was one thing I called to request when making the registration, .and the refridgerator only went on for a couple of hours then it locked itself off and would not let me start it again. the pool room was nice but the pool was cold! the room/bathroom needed some repairs..for the cost and the location I was expecting higher quality. The Gaither Homecoming Concert was well worth the $$$ and the travel. WE will definitly come back to Grand Rapids for the concert...but will probably try another hotel. "Excellent hotel to enjoy downtown Grand Rapids."
My only issue with the hotel was that myself and two other guests were staying at the hotel. My friend returned to the hotel earlier and was "kicked out" by security because his name wasn't on the hotel and he didn't have a key. Granted, this is mainly his fault, but I would think the hotel would have taken a few steps to contact me to let my friend […] into the hotel given that they had all of my contact information. The location is awesome! Right downtown and a short walk to many things. The room was super cozy, comfortable, and clean. The pool/hottub/fitness center is open 24/7 which is nice when you get back late and are still able to do those things. The over all stay was pleasent. We had a great time enjoying the city and all the hotel has to offer. The only part I recommend improving is communicating details as far as billing. I purchased the room on line via hotels.com and paid in full (thinking that all my expenses were covered). When we checked into the hotel, the young lady working at the […] first desk asked to for my ID and the debit card I used to purchase the room with. She ran my card through the computer and gave it back to me along with my ID. She failed to inform me that she was putting a $150 hold on my debit card for incidentals. Mean while I was using the same debit card througout the day for leisure activities and such. At the end of the trip, I checked my account balance to see how much money was left on my debit card. I noticed a $150 charge plus another $20 charge from the hotel that I was not aware of. These transactions caused me to over draft my account 9 times (each transaction made during my stay). The over draft fees totaled in the amount of $270. I was very upset. If the front desk employee would have informed me of the $150 and $20 holds, then I would have been able to account for these charges and not recieved any over draft fees. Fortunatly I was able to communicate this issue with my bank and the accounting department at the hotel, and together we worked to resolve this issue. Pros: Good location, friendly staff, very good bed. Cons: Some minor dustiness on some of the furniture. Valet parking was good until the last day when we called 10 minutes before hand and then waited almost 1/2 hour to get the car. They were busy at that time and there were only 2 guys. "All night party in next room!"
We were on the 5th floor. Parties in rooms on both sides of us .. first one side, which died down after a while; and then 3:00 am a group of 8 started a party on the other side of us. Called the desk who said they would send security. Half hour later called again and they said they were busy on another call. Finally after 45 minutes of it feeling like […] the party was in our room, security came and removed all but the two people staying in the room. By then, of course, we were wide awake. These things happen. What was frustrating was when we checked out in the morning and complained, the hotel offered nothing. No free breakfast. No reduction on the room rate. Even a hearty apology would have settled the matter. But nothing. They asked if we'd called (we had); if security came (they did); and if that took care of the problem (it did). Well, okay then. But the hotel is to provide a comfortable night's sleep. If matters beyond their control prevent that, they should at least offer up some sort of compensation, and certainly an apology.
