A short guide to Union Square - Convention Center

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

The hotel itself was pretty comfortable and the service was pretty decent. We didn't try out the continental breakfast since our group was always on the go. The showers are great and we had a jacuzzi setup in ours, but there was no way to fill up the tub so that was a bit of a downer. Parking is expensive. When we were there, we were paying $26 dollars a night to have them park our car, but there was an upside to it. We could ask them to park or get us our car whenever we wanted without having to pay extra (outside of tip, depending on your generosity). You might want to look into someplace cheaper to park. The location itself was pretty awesome considering we were literally up the street from Union Square and there's a nice Thai food restaurant called Thai Sticks diagonally across from the hotel which has pretty good food. Go the opposite direction from Union square, up over the hill and you get to Japantown. The location is quite convenient and there are many shops right around the area.

The hotel was just a simple and small place. Not bad but definately not all that impressive. our view was an empty enclosed and run down courtyard that was now a home to pigeons that keep you awake. also I don't know if we were near a fire station but there were lound sirens often through out the night. On the plus side, rates were reasonable for san francisco and it's close location to union square was very convienient.

We have stayed at the Beresford Arms for years and have always been pleased with out rooms, the service, and the location. We applaud them for redoing the rooms and painting the outside; however, the wonderful lobby area has been in disrepair for years. The upholstery is worn, some of the cording is gone completely, the cushions have poor support. It's an utter shame that the formerly inviting lobby has been let go so badly. We are seriously thinking of going elsewhere next time.

The beds are very comfortable but the rest of the decor is tired but after all, it's only to sleep in. Don't bother with breakfast, as it's only melon followed by tea/coffee and pastries. Staff are very helpful though and would stay again if back in San Francisco.

Our experience was consistent with most posted reviews here....Beresford Arms is a little long in the tooth, a bit like a faded but still glamorous old movie star. Location is good--on the edge between Tenderloin and core Union Square. For the money, hard to beat for being in downtown SF. One thing--we had a room on the second floor--but that's actually ground level. You do hear lots of traffic and street noise. Ask for rooms on higher floors.

There are computers for checking email, which was very useful. the breakfast is in the lobby,a concept I found very cute! It would be nice to have more variety and a little bit of change in the menu at breakfast. Also, it would be useful to have a hair dryer in every room as I normally rely on what the hotel provides. But overall, I was extremely satisfied with the hotel, and won't hesitate to go back there if I visit San Francisco again! The location is very central,so its great for shopping!

Excellent location, just a few blocks from Union Square and cable cars. Perfect if you're on a budget: each room has a kitchen, so you can pop across the street for cereal, milk, etc., and save lots of money on breakfast. Or bring home leftovers from dinner in Chinatown to reheat for lunch the next day. Lobby is lovely, with computers available at no charge...Nice continental breakfast every morning with coffee, fruit...Only complaint, and it's minor, is that there aren't very many tv channels to pick from. But otherwise, this is a great place. I'll be going back...

We had a room with 2 queen beds and at the end of the hall away from the elevators. We were very impressed when we walked into the room to see how spacious it was, especially the bathroom. Equipped with 2 sinks and a spa bath/shower and very clean. The room itself was fine, nothing over the top but also not dirty. The hotel is old w/o air conditioning, but to compensate there were two large fans in the closet we could use, which worked for us. Overall, for the price we paid and the location we were very happy with the hotel. Parking is all valet, $24+tax/day, but well worth it in my opinion.

It's an OK value for your money. The people at the front desk were helpful. When we were looking for a hotel, we were simply only looking for a convient location and comfortable place to sleep. The location isn’t to bad. About 4 blocks maybe to the cable car tracks. About an $9 cab ride down to fishermans warf. The only slightly negavitve comment we have, an it’s probabaly my fault for not noticing this, but the hotel does not have Air Conditioning. Normally we understand that this is ok as it doesn’t get very warm in San Francisco, however be sure to check the weather before you go. We booked our rooms 2 months in advance and unforantately San Francisco was hit with a heat wave when we were there, temperatures got as high as 100 degrees. For me I keep my house below 70 degress as I like it cool and have a hard time sleeping if it’s 70 degrees or warmer. If you are like me and need a cool place to sleep you may want to consider finding an hotel with AC. Again this was my fault and I took the risk so I’m not complaining, but if you are traveling in the thick of summer time, I would only book hotels in the future with AC.

Overall we were very satified with this hotel! The location was great and the staff very helpful. The 4:30 to 5:30 wine hour was lovely to come back to after a long day of sightseeing. The breakfasts were pastries and some fruit and coffee/tea. We had to supplement with some eggs and yogurt elsewhere from time to time. There was no A/C in the hotel and we were there during a rather warm week. They did supply a large fan which helped a lot. It was a pleasant stay and we would definitely go back!

Loved staying here for an anniversary night with my wife. We already live in the bay area, but wanted a short getaway and this hotel was perfect. Location is easy to find and was close to the restaraunt we wanted to try. Hotel desk was very polite, gave us plenty of tips and the afternoon wine and cheese reception was very pleasant. Our room was much bigger than expected - very clean with comfortable beds. Loved the jaccuzi tub and the large bathroom. Only stayed one night, but would return to enjoy the charm of this wonderful hotel.

I booked this room for my parents. They thoroughly enjoyed the room; the beds have a comfortable pillow top, the view from the 8th floor was very nice and the street noise added to the 'city-living' feeling. The ambiance of the hotel was beautiful! My only negative for this, was I paid extra for them to have a "jacuzzi"..which would have better been described as a "jacuzzi bathtub". Once they figured out how to turn it on, they did enjoy a relaxing bubble bath! As a San Francisco resident, this place was very convenient; the "Tendernob" (just below Nob Hill) is close to North Beach, Cathedral Hill, Chinatown, etc. without being overly tourist-y.

We reserved a Jr. Jacuzzi Suite for a great price and the room was gigantic! There was a kitchen, a huge bathroom and even a little sitting area inside the door. Beds were comfortable and closets were very spacious! I made a point to take a bath in the jacuzzi tub which was lovely. As an East Coaster I was a little confused that the hotel didn't have air conditioning - but we were more than comfortable with the windows open (even in August) and just in case, the room had a big fan in the closet. Staff was a little bit aloof, but was still very helpful. It was also nice that the hotel has a board where guests post comments and suggestions on local restaurants and services. We enjoyed the location near nob hill and union square.

We were in room 411 which to our surprise included two queens, a very large bathroom and a separate room with a full kitchen, including dishes and cooking supplies. The staff was very kind to us and our kids and their breakfast was substantial, fresh and delicious. Parking was $24 which is (sadly) now cheap by SF standards for overnight with valet service and in/out privileges. Highly recommend this hotel to any and everyone and will return to it next year for our annual SF trip!
