"Pool was awesome"
My god kids loved the pool and the hours it was open.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great stay, nice as usual!"
One of our go to hotels for stays in southern Maine. Friendly staff and everything seems to run pretty smoothly. Clean rooms and comfy beds. Dated decor but can't complain for a reliable stay. Close to everything Portland.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Give Zach a Raise!"
First of all, front desk...young man named Zach (or maybe Zack) is your best employee ever! Polite, courteous and helpful! He deserves a raise! Room was clean, bed comfortable, wake up call on time and the driver for the shuttle also helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I would have given a higher rating however my room was never cleaned after the first night I stayed there and the Wi-Fi did not work in the room that I was inGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was an enjoyable stay. Comfortable and a decent breakfast. Avery good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Trip to S.Portland"
Room was great, breakfast area was clean but eggs were dry - other choices were available and very nice. Location is right off the interstate with easy access to meeting site. Rate was fantastic and realistic. Plenty of food options within walking and driving distance. Great stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
wouldn't stay again. first room had a bed that broke immediately upon being sat upon; the wood was rotten. we were upgraded to a nicer room but even that room wasn't great; the bed was squeaky and the furniture very outdated. the halls were old looking and smelled of mildew and had stains. the molding on the ceilings was cracked and falling apart in […] some places. the staff was not friendly but were at least very efficient and focused on their jobs. overall, I would not stay here again for what I paid. "Won't probably trust you again."
Room and hotel were clean in terms of housekeeping, but the geneural condition of the hotel was below industry standards. Rugs were stained and smelled of mildew, furnature was of cheap and outdated quality. Pool area was outdated plumbing showed signs of wear. The breakfast was disgusting, sausage patties were sitting in a tub of their own fat and […] the eggs were overcooked and had been sitting there for hours prior to my sitting down to eat at 8:30. Finally, the hair dryer in my room was broken. I would not put in the same class as the Holiday Inn or other business class hotels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
the hotel room was fine. We had plenty of room and the bed was comfortable. The only problem was people slamming and shutting doors most of the night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A driving rain produced water running down the wall from the top of the window; moved to the next room down the hall with the same problem; moved across the hall with no water flowing in. Did not receive the requested wakeup call. Vending machine empty, "We're getting rid of them." Desk clerk impersonal. Shuttle driver to airport drove erratically, […] weaving and jerky (I closed my eyes and prayed to arrive in one piece). Positives? I liked being able to open the window (not the rain-on-the-inside ones). Acceptable location, adequate cleanliness. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Yes on this one!"
The best we stayed in this trip with the possible exception of the bed & breakfast in Newport,VT. Very newly remodeled and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"good enough, and affordable"
I'm discovering that Portland is getting hard to 'drop in' on, without booking rooms ahead. This hotel is a bit of a drive to points of interest, but is conveniently located near the freeways. It was clean and comfortable (skip the breakfast) and available at an affordable rate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"stopping over place"
After a long drive, looking for place to stay at a reasonable cost. Had not stayed in a HoJo for many years and decided to try. Nice Mexican restaurant in front of hotel which we dined at. Breakfast room too crowded to enjoy our breakfast so went out to eat. Very small area which made it difficult to get around without bumping into other guests. Room […] was okay but not ideal. "A stay on the way..."
The Howard Johnson's South Portland was a very comfortable, well located hotel for our needs. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, for a Hojo. The room itself was a good size, but the overall cleanliness left alot to be desired. Upon sitting on the toilet seat, it felt as if the seat was not attached to the floor. When I called maintenance, they were […] there quite quickly to repair it. While there, the maintenance person repaired the safety lock on the door, which I didn't notice was hanging down. The "continental breakfast(?)," was invisible. For business travellers, the printer, when functioning properly, was at best, adequate. The had the audicity to charge 25 cents a page for printing. I volunteered to bring in my own paper, but the desk clerk, "Mike," stated that the hotel would "not make any money" if persons would use their own paper. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just fine for an overnight stay"
Stayed here the night before the Maine marathon and it was just fine for what we needed - a clean, reasonably-priced place to sleep before the marathon. Free breakfast (a real breakfast - not just a couple of stale muffins and coffee) and free wi-fi were provided for even more value. Room with 2 double beds was spacious and altho our floor was fully […] occupied, room was also quiet. Front desk staff was pleasant. No restaurant on site, but a Mexican restaurant a few steps away from the hotel has both seated and take-out service. Don't recommend it though - my palate less than impressed but my wallet was shocked, especially considering they forgot some items in our order (which we didn't discover until we got back to our room. Given the quality of the food though, they probably did us a favor). Docks seafood is a 5 minute drive away, also with seated and take-out service. Go there instead - very fresh seafood at affordable prices. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location Great Place"
Stayed here with a sports team. A lot less expensive than downtown Portland, and a perfectly good hotel. Very easy to get into town from this hotel. Will definitely stay at this HoJo's againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Definitely a "no frills" establishment! Tub dirty, carpets stained, disgusting calking around floor of the tub and in corners of the bathroom! Smelly linens! Think twice!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was very friendly and helpful to late arrivals.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was ok"
Not the best hotel and not the worst. It's a few miles from the port area and roughly the same to the Portland Head Light. It's located right off the highway and it's a bit annoying to turn into the parking lot. The hotel itself is a bit dated but you get what you paid for so I can't really nip pick.Overall, for the price, it was a good stay. It seems […] like they're doing a lot of maintenance to the rooms when I checked in so it's good to see the hotel is spending on repairs. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A little bit out of the way"
The room was fine. Nice and large and on the first floor. The only thing was it was not very close to the Mall and restaurants. Otherwise fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The pool could have been a little cleaner. They could also use a hot tub.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a hard time finding the hotel because it was hidden by alot of trees. There isn't a lighted sign along the road . We did find it after a while.Genuine Expedia guest review
Pool was nice, breakfast was good, room was just as described in website. Price was fair and it was close to interstate easy to get to....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A clean and cozy place in a calm area"
We enjoyed staying in Howard Johnson in South Portland. It was clean, and the room was comfortable. To us, the hotel was just perfect, in meeting our requirements. The only complain, albeit a minor one, was that its WIFI reception at the room was a bit weak. Because of that, I had to go near its reception desk, to check my e-mail.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel. Welcomed our cat. Friendly staff."
We had to take our cat to a vet many miles from home. It was difficult to find a motel that allowed cats. This motel made us feel at home.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fine with paper-thin walls"
This HoJo was suitable for our needs and good for the price. We were rarely in the room, but when we were, it wasn't the most comfortable. Also, the other guests were crazy. Slamming doors from 12:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. and a drunken fight broke out right outside our door. Thankfully, the staff handled it before things escalated, but it was difficult to […] get a good night's sleep there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Roomy, clean room. Loved the two sinks...one in with tub and toilet, one outside bathroom. Great to have refrigerator in room. Staff helpful. Bed extremely comfortable. Close to highways and Portland town. Good amenities...pool, gym. Breakfast was much more than expected!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Reasonable offering for the price - when compared with other Portland offerings - though overall I thought it was expensive (did book though only ~ 1 week before the actual travel date)Genuine Expedia guest review
For the price I paid, it's a good value. The hotel was exactly what you would expect from a lower budget hotel. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The beds were a little on the soft side, pillows were too tall for my liking. Was able to get a good nights rest with no problem. Maid service were excellent; front desk was very friendly. Breakfast was […] free, so I can't complain. The waffle was very good if you have time to make one. You have Dunkin Donuts, Circle K gas, a 7-11, and Mobile gas with convenience store all nearby. The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. Could've used some interior updating, but for the price, I'm not complaining.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient Location and Excellent Value"
Excellent hotel for the price and very convenient to the interstate and to the sights of Portland. Great value and comfort.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Way better than motel 6"
We stayed at a motel 6 the night before, in portland. For the same amount of money, this was insanely cleaner and nicer. Everything was clean and they have us the little bottles of shampoo in the bathroom. And there was a pool! They were very accommodating with out dog, too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Because our flight to Portland arrived at 8:30 in the evening and because friends from Boothbay were picking us up early the next morning, we did not spend much time in the hotel the first night. Then on the second night (five nights later) we spent the late afternoon and evening in the hotel but had to leave for an early flight the next morning. So […] actually, we did not spend much time in the hotel. We liked the room, it was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed in it. The breakfast room was too small and too crowded, but it worked out OK and the fold was fine. Not excellent but adequate. The staff were receptive to our needs and questions and treated us well. Pleasing and relaxing place to spend the time. Close to attractions and beaches!Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is very old and outdated. The room had torn carpets, door knob in bathroom that was falling off and it had a generally bad odor to the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff was efficient and attentive, took care of details cheerfully. I could recommend this hotel without question.Genuine Expedia guest review
I left a jacket in the room and called soon after I left and realized my mistake. I called three times and only received a call back after my third call, when they surely felt my frustration. No jacket was ever found. If such a problem cannot be "taken up" and addressed with the housekeeping staff, I have little to no respect for the hotel itself. Needless […] to say, I will not be staying there on subsequent visits to the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is my second time there and more pleasing. however knowing that 5 people would be stying in the room and having only 2 doubles and not proving a roll away in the price was not goo. a better experience this time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Five minutes from downtown Portland"
What you would expect from a Howard Johnson. The desk staff was very informative about the area and things to see. I would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Simple, comfortable - just what we needed"
The hotel was exactly what you would expect from a lower budget hotel. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Yes, the décor could use some updating, but nothing was gross or falling apart. The beds were comfortable enough - not top of the line, but my back was fine in the morning. Breakfast was good. They had two make your own waffle stations, cereal, […] pastries, fruit, eggs, sausage, and juice. Again, the food isn't gourmet quality, but it fills you up and tastes good enough. The waffles were my favorite, and were really tasty. The staff at the front desk were all very friendly and polite. If we were traveling to the Portland area again, we would definitely consider this hotel. The biggest downside is that it is not near all the tourist attractions, but it is fairly short ride down there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
