The mattresses were very uncomfortable. Bathroom floor in the corners was filthy. Long dark hair found in the "clean" shower. Pool was closed for maintenance at 4:00PM on a hot, summer day. Poor planning. An OK place to stay for one night, but I won't stay here again. I'll stick to Marriott.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
High tourist season and this hotel had vacancies with better rates. Clean, quiet, and comfortable. Having a sink in the bathroom and a vanity/sink out side the bathroom is unusual and very handy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I enjoyed my stay of 2 nites before taking my flight home. The room was clean and comfortable and quiet even though I was on the first floor. The indoor pool was a nice perk. There was some difficulty with the in-room WIFI, but the desk staff was very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value stay in South Portland."
Close to the Maine Mall and Airport. Decent location, good prices. Clean rooms and surrounding property.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Exterior of hotel not very appealing; parking lot needs a serious makeover and needs much more landscaping. Hotel lobby so-so and not particularly clean; also, have to make a serious trek to get to the breakfast room. But, room very clean and comfortable. Nice and quite towards the back of the hotel, despite being on Route 1. 3.4 miles from airport; […] a pretty straightforward drive. Wi-Fi a little problematic and slow. TV old style but good channel selection. There was a huge gathering of teenagers on the fourth floor, making a phenomenal amount of noise for a Tuesday night, but that's not the hotel's fault! "Budget beater! Best price for location!"
We were only there for one night. Flying out in the morning. Definitely the cheapest in the area, closest to the airport and mall. Nothing fancy, but it got the job done! No complaints. Don't over spend if you don't have to. You're not living there, it's only one night! It's nice on the budget!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpriced for quality but sufficed"
The hotel was old and run down, but it sufficed for being a one night stop on a road tripGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The wifi was Terrible! The staff seemed not to care if it did/could work. Not what I need when traveling for business. But I guess you get what you pay for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel with good breakfast"
Nice hotel in South Portland with a clean indoor pool and a full breakfast. We just needed a place to stay for one night and this hotel met those needs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel in South Portland"
Easy location to visit Portland and close to US1 to visit southern until ogunquit in less than 1/2hour. Not too bad, need some refreshening and a bigger breafasr room (lot of rooms in the hotel). Convenient for a 2/3 days stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice clean comfortable room. Modern bathroom. No pay-per-view on the room's TV. Enjoyed the pool, though it was heavy on the chlorine. Nice breakfast included scrambled eggs as well as standard continental fare. Overall, enjoyed our stay at SoPoHoJo.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The rooms were very clean and spacious and the beds were comfortable. The free breakfast was great too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wireless was terrible"
We were only there for one night. No problem with anything but the wireless. It was almost impossible to connect, and then it kicked me off within a few minutes on the few times I could connect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Not able to get WiFi in room unless you are standing by the door. Beds were hard. Contnential breakfast service was horrible. Room was too small without enough seating. Food was dried out and not restocked. Tables were not wiped off. Price of room went up once you went to book it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cost v Quality"
It's not the greatest hotel, but for the cost and the distance to downtown Portland, it's well worth it. The hotel seems older and could use remodeling. The biggest grievance was probably the air conditioner. We set it to the lowest setting, 62 F, and the room had to be around 78 F. The AC would turn on for roughly 30 seconds, then shut off. It would […] start up again around 4 minutes later, then shut off again. I'm not sure if it was registering the wrong temperature, or if the temp sensor was getting a false reading, but it was generally pretty warm in the room. If the temperature wasn't dropping at night, we'd have asked to move to a different room. All in all, again, for the low cost of the room, it's worth the stay. "Needs maid service"
Maid service was minimal and incomplete. Trash bag removed from can but not from room. No trash removed the following two nights. Toilet paper was a single roll. Used towels not replaced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't miss Willard Beach--nearby"
Super manager provided great customer service; area is not nice, but Willard Beach is a pleasant treasure nearby--don't miss!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We traveled to Portland to meet up with some family for a few days. We were looking for a cheap but decent hotel. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for. The room was clean & surprisingly larger than expected. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely stay here when we return to Portland again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly service, great bargain!"
We aren't 5-star customers. SoPoHoJo was perfect for us. Front desk staff was always friendly. Our room was quiet. It was very basic but had everything we needed. It's an older hotel but in good shape. Continental breakfast was a convenient amenity, although it was crowded both mornings. Could re-do a bit to improve traffic flow through the breakfast […] room. Will definitely stay again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel has nothing special but is really clean, rooms are comfortable, there is an inside swimming pool we did not use. Location is not the best but is really convenient, with a lot of parking spots. The breakfast is not fantastic but there is enough choice to not start the day with an empty stomach. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location to see sights and shop"
I woujld stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff were very accommodating and friendly and it was a convenient location, that was the best part of the hotel. I was not expecting a palace, but I wasn't expecting my room to have the smallest hotel window in the world either. The lighting in the room was horrible and the room just felt icky. The whole place hasn't been updated in probably 20+ […] years. The blankets didn't fit the bed properly and had to be covered with two sheets to just be presentable and the bedspread was a twin draped across the bottom of a King sized bed. I don't like being hard on hotels, but I was not impressed! If they'd put a little money in it and updated the rooms it would do wonders for the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The property was nice and the staff was more than helpful. The rooms were also clean and comfortable. I would stay again at this hotel and would also recommend to a friend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not too far from downtown Portland"
Our stay was enjoyable, we were about 10 minutes by car from downtown Portland. The ride to Portland was not too long and there is so many sites to see in the downtown area. Overall very satisfied with the location and comfort of the hotel. The staff was very friendly as well!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for what we needed."
This hotel was perfect for our one night stay in the area. The staff members from the desk folks to the maid to the breakfast lady were all warm, friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean, the air conditioner worked beautifully on a very hot day, and the breakfast allowed us to be on the road quickly in the morning. We would gladly stay here again […] if we need a place in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was ok"
The hotel wasn't too bad. It was outdated but the room was clean. Breakfast was horrible. Just because the hotel is dated doesn't mean you can have good breakfast. It was very half done, they kept the bagels and bread inside the plastic bags, milk and juice in their plastic containers. The eggs were over cooked, I was just grossed out. It was very close […] to downtown portland so the second day we got breakfast at the holy donut. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Do not book at this hotel"
First room with odor of stale cigarette smoke. Second room was similar to a dim cave, as the window was about five feet away from a brick wall. The worst part, thought, was the antiquated room air-conditioning system, which cycled every 15 minutes through the entire night, and sounded like a jet airplane at take-off. Even my spouse, who has significant […] hearing loss, was awake all night with the cacophony. After finally turning the unit off early in the morning, the room was stifling due to the outside heat and humidity. The overall appearance and feel was dingy, dirty and very poorly maintained, with no updating within the last 20 years. The breakfast room was located in what appeared to be an old storage room, with no windows or ventilation. During check-out, thine desk staff asked how we slept. When I shared that we both slept poorly due to the he condition of the room, there was not follow-up query as to why, or what could have made the stay more comfortable. I am a seasoned traveler, sometimes spending up to a 120 night per year in a hotel room. This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Do not stay in this is antiquated, poorly maintained hotel. "Need Better Beds - Rock Hard..."
The So Po Ho Jo is a convenient place to stay, with a great staff, a good free breakfast & nice indoor pool. However, the beds are way to hard for a good night's sleep. Investing in comfortable mattresses would have made our stay much better and I recommend they do that before we will come back again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a room in the newly remodeled area of the hotel. For a motel 6 my husband thought it was one of the best. We don't usually stay in Motel 6 but were looking for an inexpensive night so it sufficed. The room was very bare and the air conditioning worked great. The hotel clerk was kind enough to get me two extra pillows.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Stay in S. Portland"
Hotel was convenient and comfortable but an older property. Greeting was friendly and efficient. Room was large, clean and comfortable with indoor pool and complimentary breakfast. I would re-visit this property in the future. Thanks HoJo!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Comfortable beds (doubles, not queen), a nice pool with good hours, pleasant reception, and breakfast included made this a great deal for the four of us, breaking up a 15-hour road trip. We liked it so much we booked it for the way back as well. The hotel is conveniently close to the highway, and it's a short drive to downtown Portland, which is a great […] little town. The breakfast was decent enough, too bad it was all on disposable paper & plastic. For our budget the hotel met all our needs well. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good place to stay"
What you would expect for the price. Faint musty smell, but room was clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Was not plesant..... One of stand lamp switch doesn't work..... TV is not fitted in its stand box, also picture quality was unwatchable.....No water provided,,,,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel worked for me due to its easy proximity to the highway and easy driving access to both Portland and South Portland. The staff is courteous and works hard to accommodate traveler needs. However, the actual building is awkward; it's impossible to take a cart of luggage past the 3 steps mid-hallway in each wing. Not all outside doors are accessible […] with pass key making loading & unloading difficult. Breakfast is available, but entirely disorganized. If you're not on the 1st or 3rd floors, you'll get exercise looking for ice. Overall, it's a bargain for an overnight rest, but if you need more than that, opt for another hotel. I stayed rececently with my daughter and her 3 pre-teen friends to celebrate her birthday. The hotel was nice, the staff friendly and the pool was warm and inviting. The only downside was that the beds were not very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good budget hotel"
Customer service was excellent. For a large family (2 adults and 3 kids), the beds were a little sparsely adorned, but all in all, a good deal for the price paid. The pool was very nice and kept at a nice warm temperature. Easy to get to, was very close to the Maine Turnpike and had ample parking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fridge & microwave; however, dark & uncomfortable"
The room was very clean. It was nice to have a fridge and microwave in the room. The room was very dark (limited lighting), and the bed was not super comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Needs Updating"
Our stay was ok. The hotel needs updating. The desk service was kind. The continential breakfast was about 3 miles away from the lobby and the room was made for about 25 people but about 50 people were in it with no elbow room fighting for their breakfast as the poor girl who was stocking it tried her best to keep up. I would probably not stay here […] again. It seemed like a safe hotel but it really needs to be updated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It needs some updating... but it's good enough"
The beds were very old and really should be replaced. It's very noisy with people coming and going but it was good enough for what we needed. This is typically where we stay when we make the trip but I may consider staying somewhere else next time for a better sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quiet during low season"
I have no complaints about my stay. It is near to everything - OLd Port, Amtrak and Jetport. Its nice and quiet during the low season. The second day of my stay, toiletries were not stocked, but were stocked on the third. I will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had stayed here before and enjoyed it. The pool was clean. We would go there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Spent two nights. Clean facility. Courteous staff. Excellent rates. Better continental breakfast than most economy based hotels. Will stay here again if in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
