Overall it was fine. The guest room was clean, comfortable, and paying a little more for the ocean view was worth it. Staff is SLOW at everything. From check in, to meals, to drinks it seems there are two speeds: slow or stop. I was amazed at how many front desk people needed to be brought in on the check in process (pre-paid, room not ready at 1hr past check in). Not complicated but clearly not efficient from the staff side. We did leave a phone in a room. Two hours later we went back to look. Room was locked, only access by staff, no phone. It is clear to us a staff member took the device, but not accountability from the hotel. Not even an apology. Parking was fine, easy, and worth the $5/day. Meals were edible, but not impressive. Expected more regional efforts and higher quality on the seafood.

We had a lovely time.....lookig forward to returning. This is not the Ritz; however, the food is good, extremely clean room that is restocked daily, and there lots to do (we added four new countries to our list - St Maarten, St Martin, Aguila, and Saba). Go with an open mind (the internet may be spotty), but remember, you are in a foreighn country. If you cannot accept some quirks, please stay at home and read a book!

Hotel is adequate as stop-over, but it's very close to airport and facility was very crowded and dark. It is fine but dated. It would help to have automated check-out, as it took almost 15 minutes to check out between the line and the amount of time to charge the credit card. Some staff were professional and others were not overly friendly or welcoming.

The website describes features that are not available at the hotel. The cafe no longer exists and the staff was clueless about the 'included' snorkeling. The website makes it seem like there are more bars and restaurants than really exist at the resort. Things close down early and there are times when you cannot get food anywhere on the resort. The room was freezing, air set to 69 degrees. I could not get it set to a different temperature and the staff was clueless. Never did get the room warmer.

As with all inclusive hotels, lots of drinking and very loud. Location is great near beach and in Maho so a car is not needed. Food very good and I am not a buffet fan but theirs was good. Great to watch the planes take off and land but when u r there for 4 days, it gets old

This is a great hotel. I can't understand the poor rating. Beach close to hotel and pool. Food was good - much better than in Mexican exclusives. Meat always well cooked. Choices for everyone. Staff very accomodating and the hotel was very clean. The pool is not huge but adequate for the number swimming. Most people wanted to just lie around and there was some shortage of pool chairs but there was plenty of shady areas to escape the hot sun. The only thing missing was a jacuzzi. Fitness center open 24/7 which was great. Being close to the Airport was a big plus.

There are not 5 restaurants as advertised. There is a sit down restaurant that had the same menu every night. Not impressed with any of my or my wife's choices. There is a buffet with rotating dinner items but the same barely adequate breakfast. There is always a line to be seated and staff is not attentive. I had to get my own coffee or drinks on several occasions. There is also a very small sports bar attached to the resort which seemed stuffy and smelled bad-we didn't even try it. Only 1 pool. The ocean point is off limits but seems a bit nicer. No hot tub. Staff is just not very helpful and there is a wait for everything. For my honeymoon, I booked a ground level garden king, after 30 min at the front desk get my key which is 5th floor. Whatever, get up to the room and there are two twins. The lady at the front desk knew my reservation and that I was there on my honeymoon. I go back down and wait another 30 min. Tell her the story. She says there is no availability and nothing she can do. Finally talks to her manager and says ok there is a king but we will need to upgrade you. Whatever you need to do! The upgraded suite still overlooked the roof of adjoining building and casino but was a little nicer and they didn't end up charging me extra The sonesta great bay is a bit nicerYou have full privileges here although its20$ taxi ride to get there. It has a nicer pool, larger beach with drink service, free kayaking/boogie boarding, staff is more friendly and attent

Value for the money. But the room was dated and tired. Food was good, but you had to be picky. Many of the items were not tasty. Beach was small but the pool area and hotel grounds were nice. Located on a busy street but once inside the hotel and grounds, you forgot that.

The hotel was good, food and drinks wise. Inclusive is the way to go. The second to last night we had noticed ants on the night stand table leading from the balcony. Other than that it was close to everything do do.

The good: location, on the maxo beach that's famous for the close airplane landings. Area around the hotel feels safe night and day, casino across the street, restaurants and bars, some shopping. Food was good, drinks were good too, beers are in cans, Heineken, presidente, coors light, miller light that was good. You can also go to the sonesta adult resort and use their pool, which is pretty cool, and worth it that resort is much better, food, service all good. Check in was very fast no lines another positive, same with check out. The bad: too many people, we stayed there for Christmas and new years, so many little kids running around. Not enough beach chairs, between the resort and time share guest they need more beach chair's. Service at dinner time :at the buffet restaurant they were very slow, by the time you finish your meal then your water and drink would arrive, and too many flies around dessert table. At the beach front restaurant dinner time sucked, you wait sometimes 20 minutes just for them to ask how many people you got in your party, the hostesses sucked. Service was half and half couple times we got great service couple times real bad, with nobody checking on us for long time. It was very irritating when we went to dinners because of the bad service. Also with blocking off the resort behind restaurants and making everyone feel like they are not important as the guest's at the resort thats newer that was bad too. For the money this hotel was not worth it.

The grounds and lobby are beautifully maintained with plenty of establishments outside the resort for those that like to venture out. Our room was a premium room with a good balcony view of the grounds and water. Caution, water view anywhere in the resort is limited. The room itself was a suite but was not tastefully done. After a week, our clothes smelled musty. The room was clean to a point. Caution, the room had many areas that looked dated and or moldy looking. The balcony was small and wedged next to every other balcony with no private wall between them. Our bedroom window looked at a brick wall. No view other that the side of the building. The buffet food was OK at best. For example, we had some of the lobster tail they served on New Year's Eve and it was tougher than uncooked steak. The service staff was by far the worst part of the hotel. On 3 separate occasions they knocked on our door at or around 10 PM for some reason or another. They had already cleaned the room early in the day so I have no idea what their intentions were. Maybe it was just a bad time to visit but I do not see myself returning to this resort.

We loved the location. Fun to watch jet planes land close by. One of the best places for swiming on the island. Good for children as can snorkel. Other beaches on island were rough. Staff rude, except our bellboy and one waitress. Although it's all inclusive, they were always out of items..like tomatoes at the buffets (we were always early). The special liquor. ..guava berry...they only stocked at one bar and ran out everyday. Always ran out of bottled water...went to front desk to get more and they refused to give me more, stating they would send it to my room...which never happened. No towels or water in exercise room. Restaurants always out of menu items. Staff unhappy....it showed. Palm bar opened at 10 am, my husband went there at 10 to order a mimosa and Sheryl, the bartender, told him to come back at 10:15....she was too busy gossiping with a fellow staffer. Went to buffet that was supposed to open at 6:30....of course it didn't. ...but at 6:37 we asked a waitress if we can start and she responded with "we open at 6:30 and if you want to eat now, you should have gone to the main buffet as they open at 6". We showed her our watch and although she acknowledged we were correct, she did not apologize for her rude behavior.

We knew going-in the reviews were mixed … for good reason. The advantages include a nice not-overcrowded facility with a fine pool and beach access. I was a little nervous about planes landing periodically throughout the day at the airport about 300 yards down the beach; it wasn't a nuisance, it was a constant source of amazement and entertainment. Most of the staff was friendly (with a few bartenders being the exceptions). Lines for the restaurants were minimal. And you can't beat St. Martin for weather, snorkeling, blue waters, etc. Maho also has some fun shops, good gelato, and a few eating and entertainment options. The con's: 1) they bill it as 5 restaurants - it's really 3. The Palm Grill and another sit-down restaurant shared the same menu every day, and are attached to one another. The pizzeria is really just a pizza oven in the same restaurant as the buffet. And the Ascot Pub's not even on premises, it's around the corner and up the escalator, and is a sports bar so not an enticing place for a lot of meals. The food was plentiful and from acceptable-to-good, not great. 2) if you have an island view, you'll overlook the village of Maho, including an outdoor restaurant that has loud, live music until 1 or 2 a.m. every night. Bring earplugs! You don't have to be an old codger to want quiet when you sleep. Not sure how much better it is with an ocean view, but this definitely is a problem. 3) the facility is a little tired/run down.

Hotel was outdate and service inconsistent and at times super slow, never the less some of the staff were very friendly. The food was acceptable sometimes and others good, liquor was low quality, but the bear had a great selection. The best thing this hotel has is the location in my opinion.

Overall the experience was good. Entertainment needs improvement as well as overall service but it was comfortable, clean and relaxing. The hotel is in the process of remodeling rooms, once that is complete, it will be very nice. Some of the room views are less than spectacular.

We went through Expedia. No big complaints but our room was BOTTOM tier for sure. We tried to upgrade but the hotel was fully booked. Our room was #639 and faced a horrible, just horrible view with a big structure that did "something" that ran loudly 24 hours a day. Ugh. There were stains on our ceiling and cracked tiled floors. The beds were just fine....pillows were fine as well.

This was our third time to visit Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. It was great! We have never been unhappy. This time a hurricane had hit one week before we arrived. Fortunately only minor damage to landscaping. Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, the guys that bring your drinks for your fridge, all the food servers, Cheryl at the swim up bar, the guys who take your luggage to the room were all EXCEPTIONAL!! Food was always great and always such a wide selection to choose from. We will be coming back that's for sure! We may even bring more friends with us next time! Thank you to everyone there!

There are things about this hotel that on not in managements control. The location right next to the airport could be a positive since it took only 1/2 hour after landing to be in our hotel room. We found it to be annoying to hear the planes coming and going all day long. It is situated right in the middle of a very small cluster of stores. The beach was the most disappointing since it was narrow and small and on an incline. I felt like I was going to tumble in the water. The water was pretty rough, but clean and beautiful. The staff could have been happier and more friendly. The food choices were so limited and always cold. The one outside restaurant was a problem since we had a lot of rain. The garden view rooms overlook a dirty roof top. There were very limited activities as well, especially when it rained. The renovation of one of their buildings caused excessive dirt and huge construction vehicles to drive by you. Not a relaxing, pleasant, experience. Also, the website states bathrobes. We did not have one and requested one. After our second manager, and our 4th day there, we did finally get one. There were some workers who went out of their way to try to help.

When we first walked up to the hotel we were a little disappointed because it didn't look like the pictures. Then we walked in, and when we walked out by the pool...BINGO!! It was beautiful, right by the beach with great food selection, nice room...we were very pleased. The hotel staff was also very helpful and friendly.

The location is great. Just a few nagging problems detracted from what could be a fantastic experience. Inconsistant water pressure and. Temperature in the shower. The view outside our room was ruined by the unkept back alley and dock behind the hotel and having to look over the sewer treatment facility to admire the seascape of mullet bay.

The staff needs to be trained in customer service. The staff was not too friendly and the front desk was not informative or honest with the rooms that were available. Kevin, the service desk supervisor, was not of much help and he too needs to be trained in acceptable customer service.

It is very hard to believe any of the other reviews I have read where people state they have been here multiple times. No one with a GED would return to this resort. Here's why: 4 hour check in, wrong room, only to be told reservations you make AND PAY FOR, including upgrades, are NOT GUARANTEED and you get no recourse, no refund. No hot water, seriously? What a terrible experience this made. Frigid pool, not really that big a deal but thoughtless for a resort. Grounds disgusting, there's mud everywhere. Roof leaks, in a word, terrible. Staff could not accommodate us for some meals, not enough staff/seating, hence, we had to leave the ALL-INCLUSIVE resort to eat! Yes, you read that right. Luckily, that saved our vacation, because the best food we ate was off the resort. And the most fun we had was definitely off the resort. Phillipsburg is a lot of fun to visit. If you're going to go to St Martin, which I don't recommend, stay near or in Phillipsburg. The Dutch side is much better, Marigot was a shell of Phillipsburg. Regardless, if you stay at Sonesta Maho after reading this, well, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Not a good start; the reservation was not recognized and room readiness lasted two hours after the check-in time. The hotel was in renovation, so access to some areas of the facility, including dinning, were very limited. Although was an an "All-Inclusive", food variety and menus were very limited. We got tired from the same food after the second day of stay. Service was OK, but very dependent on additional tips. There were more people hosted that what they can really host with the resources allocated due to the renovation. This was evidenced by the long waiting lines to get seated and eat. Also evidenced for the waiting time for towels change...

We booked this resort because we had seen footage of Maho Beach on the Discovery Channel and put it on our bucket list. We were not disappointed. The hotel is a wonderful place to spend a vacation. Our plane landed at 2:00 and by 2:30, we were on the beach. Check in was a breeze and the front desk agent gave us a wonderful room way up on the 9th floor. The room was very clean, the air conditioning worked well, the refrigerator in the room was stocked with drinks (replenished every day) and the bathroom had lots of clean towels and amenities. The balcony had table and chairs to watch the planes coming in. The resort is undergoing construction, but it does not impact guests, as the work is on a building behind the resort. The grounds are beautiful with tropical flowers, palm trees and winding paths. We loved the casual dining. Both the Palms Grill and the Ocean Terrace had wonderful service and awesome open air sea views. Food selections were good every day. Breakfast contained eggs (any way), omelets, pancakes, french toast, breakfast potatoes, beans, cold cuts, breads and muffins, and fresh fruit. Every day. Overall, the service was sub-par and not what you would expect at an all inclusive resort. Having been to many resorts and several countries, this was my worst experience .I made a huge effort to adjust my expectations and enjoy the remainder of the stay. Food choices were limited , with couple of new items introduced everyday . The staff was grumpy at times and even rude on occasions. Lengthy wait for drinks and extra cutlery in the buffet restaurant.The hotel is in need of repairs and renovations. The tiles were broken across the bathroom floor and di walls in need of paint. The sofa in the room was grossly dirty. I tried to get a different room and expressed my surprise and disappointment explaining I never had issues with my Expedia booking. The female employee politely responded that Expedia books their cheapest rooms and if I wanted a renovated room will need to pay more. I felt embarrassed in front of my relatives who had more acceptable accommodation. I paid a lot of money after saving all year for a vacation, only to be made to feel inferior.Upon check in, while awaiting our room, my pre-teen son went to the lobby bar after not noticing the "18 and older" signage to obtain a soft drink. He was scolded by the bartender who asked"How old are you?" After my son's response, the bartender said, "read the sign , get out !" Certainly not the warm welcome one would expect. The hotel is a very good choice for family travel, options for all ages, food is good and has a wide variety of stuff at all meals. Staff is super friendly, and for those who enjoy drinking, liquor is included.

Sonesta Maho needs a lot of upgrades to be called even a 3 star hotel. Rooms are old, smell musky and have poor ventilation. We were in an 8th floor ocean view suite. Food was by no means fine dining - would rate as reconstituted cafeteria food. No hot food, no clean glasses, coffee cups. Always needed to wait. Pizza place usually closed. Unless you tip the bartender, you wait for your watered down drink. Ascot Pub was out of most entrees on the menu. Pool was dirty and No clean beach towels. We asked to be moved to Sonesta Great Bay but we're told additional charge for transfer,plus additional $100 per night more plus pay our own cab fare to get there. We spoke with Mr King and it took 4 hours to get this response.

I went to celebrate my birthday and take a break from reality. We experienced just that. Staff was helpful when asked, the weather was beautiful, there was some passing showers for two days that we didn't mind. Food was decent. Ramon the bartender by the beach was friendly, Sheryl at the pool bar was awesome, the rest of the pool staff was cool too, Henry at the beach was always helpful, we tipped most of them to show a little appreciation. We had a private dinner that was amazing. First day at the beach I got an unbelievable foot massage from Jayjay, my boyfriend had a back massage from Annmarie the morning before our flight. We plan to return. There were all types of visitors college kids, parents with kids, middle aged couples, older couples but everyone kind joined where they fit in or mind their business and enjoyed the sun. This resort can be for anyone!

Upon arrival the hallway and room itself had an unpleasant odor that lingered the entire 6 days. Not to mention if you get a room that isn't classified as "Ocean View" you will have a balcony overlooking the service area of the hotel and the dumpsters. The gym is adequate for the average Joe but for us that are semi serious about training it is a disgrace. Dumbbells go up to 30 pounds and there is a very limited selection of equipment jammed together into a small room. The pictures found on the hotel website are edited so that the gym appears larger. The food itself was not bad, although I've certainly had much better food at other all inclusive hotels and I have to rank this place on the bottom. The service at the restaurants was terrible. Long lines to get seated especially at the buffet and rude employees. On top of that it was a hit or miss with the waiters if they came over to pour water or coffee. Sometimes we would get seated at tables missing utensils and have to physically make our way to the entrance to the kitchen to ask for them. This place advertised Pinot Grigio as an available wine option but supposedly they were out of it the whole week. It's clear the person in charge of dining room management does not recognize these problems as they persisted meal to meal the entire trip. As for the drinks at the bars, bottom shelf all the way, not even Coronas. The frozen drinks are made with little alcohol. Refrigerator blocking emergency staircase

I should've read the reviews before booking this hotel. My first impression was not good. Lobby/ hotel is very 70ish looking. And needs a makeover quickly. The room was horrendous! The Tiffany blue couch had cigarette burns on it. The bathroom tiles were broken. We decided to look at the grounds and it was another disappointment. No pool entertainment ( a very very small pool). There was a restaurant under renovations so only two restaurants available (only had lunch there and the choices warre less then acceptable). Staff was nice. I didn't know that the. Hotel was literally 8 minutes from airport. Soo, little did I know that you can almost touch the planes while you were on the beach as they landed. It's nice the first two times you see a plane land but after that it's annoying and to add to that, their building an adult only hotel right on the same grounds and all you heard with the planes was drilling! I was not happy and spoke to the front desk and inquired about their Great Bay location. Since we could eat their for free as part of the all inclusive, we decided that very night to go there for dinner. Well $20 can ride over and what a difference! An all inclusive adult only resort that was exactly what I was looking for. Great grounds, staff, food choices and clean hotel. We enjoyed dinner and quickly returned to Maho and requested a transfer. Next morning transfer was complete and we made our way to Sonesta Great Bay. Maho needs major renovations!

The hotel itself was just ok. Nothing too special. There was quite a bit of construction going on while we were there and one restaurant was closed. The staff at the Palms Grill is terrible. We ate at the buffet for most every meal. The beach really does make up for it though. It's absolutely beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice. Overall, we had an amazing vacation in spite of some flaws with the hotel. Wish the service was better, but would stay on the beach forever

Overall, the hotel location is very safe. Some staff weren't very happy with their jobs and was evident to the customers. There were never enough bath towels or beach towels. We always had to wait for towels before we can shower and the wait for the beach towels were even worse.
