"Good hotel but do not us travel / excursion desk"
Overall hotel was good. Food good, seating good, location good. My only issue is the travel/excursion desk in hotel lobby. They are very lazy and booked us on ferry to St.Barts and when we got to Ferry they said the hotel overbooked the ferry travel to St.Barts and we couldn't go. I recommend not using this hotel service to book excursions.

"Hotel OK"
The staff were all nice, and the pool & beach area was nice. We did all inclusive. I wasn't all that impressed with the food. We room we initially had was recently remodeled and nice. We had a view of a rooftop though. We made the mistake of asking for a room with a water view. They gave us a room with a partial water view. When we went to sit outside on our little deck,we realized we were directly above the smelly septic treatment plant. So much for sitting outside.

"Ok Experience"
First off, I was very disappointed that we were not notified that the pool was under construction. We got there and the pool with the swim up bar was blocked off and we didn't find out until we checked in. It would have been nice to know beforehand since the swim up bar is the main reason we decided to stay here. The rooms were below average and out dated and the draws had an awful smell. The view from the balcony would have been nice if I didn't have to look at the pool construction zone. In addition, the hotel is right by a water treatment plant so there is a bad smell at certain times throughout the day. The bathroom was old and there was a leak from the ceiling. Also, the bathtub plug was missing and the sink plug was broken and would get stuck which was totally inconvenient especially since every time I removed it housekeeping would put it back in and get it stuck all over again. The beach was very nice and clean and it was cool to see the planes come in. Food was edible, nothing to rave about. The Palms Grill was convenient for a quick lunch while at the beach. Security around the hotel was reassuring and made me feel safe.

"MAHO FUN!"
We have been to Sonesta Maho several times. They have a great pool, Swim up bar and several large areas to lounge around. There is also a small pool with a rock water fall that is good for photo ops. Buffet goes all day long as well as fresh pizza. At night Maho is where all the action is. You are within a 2 minute walk of several night clubs other restaurants and bars so you don't have to worry about driving. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms and hotel is clean. There is a wonderful Spa and a very respectable gym.

"Slow service, not managed well"
Extremely slow check in-our rooms weren't ready at check in time and when we got to the room, the bathroom linens were not appropriately stocked. Waited almost two hours to eat at The Point Restaurant; restaurant staff did not communicate or apologize re: the long wait and some menu options were not available by the time we were seated. Most staff were not rude - the wait staff in the restaurants were very nice- but hotel staff were not examples of the customer service that you would want when you are on vacation; the man responsible for the beach chairs informed us that he stops working at 6pm as he asked us to get off of the chairs at 5:59 pm-no warning given. Overall service was slow and without any attempt to provide apologies. Will try a different hotel when I return to the island.

"Insulting Experience"
This was my 3rd time at the Sonesta Maho, with the last time coming in 2010. The previous Sonesta Maho was a nice experience. The new version of the Sonesta Maho is insultingly bad. The hotel is dated. It looks old when you walk up to it, it looks old when you walk inside, it looks older in your room. These things were all true in 2010, they remain true in 2015 but with a 250% mark-up in price for being “all-inclusive”. Doors/walls are thin, guests in one room can hear entire conversations spoken at a normal voice level by guests in the adjoining room. Hallways are loud, made worse by the excessive noise staff members make in the morning. At times, the toilet failed to refill with water and couldn't be flushed without using the ice bucket to refill from the sink. The Wifi is slow, failing to load even the most basic web pages. The television is only in standard def. Plugs are few and far between. These are all minor things, but they all add up and are all important in modern hotels, especially those at this price point. In all, this was a miserable, insulting, frustrating experience. If you are looking for the cruise atmosphere with daily planned activities, mass produced bland food and drink and constant noise everywhere you go including your room, stay at the Sonesta Maho. If you are looking for a relaxing experience with high quality restaurants and amenities, stay as far away from the Sonesta Maho as you can because there is nothing relaxing or quality about it.

"Terrible service and worse food"
The quality of food and service were beyond disappointing. Most dishes were inedible, bottled water was unavailable, extremely long wait for the dishes we ordered and then when it finally arrived we got bits and pieces of our order. Some people would get the app, salad and entree all at once and yet some of us had no part of our order while someone else may have only 1 part of the order. Restaurants were without air conditioning, resort overall is way understaffed, pool liner was ripped up, walkway and pool deck broken up in places, beach and bath towels not readily available. When the complaints were taken to the manager Mr. King, he was completely apathetic.

"Nicer Hotel Resort"
Check in a little bumpy. There is Sonesta Moho, a kind of casino hotel, and ocean point, a semi separate entity. Expedia calls it Moho, front desk informs you something else. Ocean point is fine, you just dont know what is going on. Confusion not a good introduction to anywhere regardless of cost. The property is first class. People are nice. The tourist zone outside hotel was remarkably dead for a friday night. Saturday breakfeast buffet at 730 was amazingly populated with guests. The buffet itself a little on the stingy or lean side. Waiters typical of caribbean, semi lethargic. Anyway you can eat and stay alive. Beach outside door of restaurant not ready for business. Lounge chairs in piles locked up with one lethargic islander unlocking and dispensing one at a time for gratuity. That alone causes me to look for another hotel. 4th time I've been to St. Martin since April. Nobody goes to St. Martin to stay in a wonderful bed, or get a great meal, or to shop. They go for the beach. The beach. This hotel fails to grasp this concept. I'll keep shopping around for serious hoteliers.

"Supervision,,,,,"
We stayed last year had a terrific time. This year the hotel was not for adults. Check in was terrible had to get DOO involved. There were teenage groups running and distrubing Adults guest. Kids unsupervised jumping off the top of the bridge at thepool, Sitting on all the bar seats so no adults could get a drink at the pool bar. Most of the staff was rude. Except for Eddie the BELLMEN he was wonderful. Sheryl at the Lunch drink bar, she is one reason why we returned. Marlene the waitress, Natasha, in the pub also were super. The food was less quality then last year. Less places to eat. Because everything was for the new hotel. No seating at Breakfast stand & wait a long time you had to fight to get bacon long omelette lines. Pizza for lunch 35 - 40 minutes to get a slice. Only one person making pizza for a crowded hotel. The drink cup size at the bar was smaller then last year Children were in the pool unsupervised. Throwing balls across the pool hitting guest with them, Splashing older guest just relaxing by the side of the pool. Jumping off the top of the bridge almost . If you went down to the beach to get away from them no chairs on beach. Had to go up top..We had such a wonderful experience last year, but this year was horrible, I understand rooms occupancy is important but the teenagers were to many for too few adults supervising. I am sure they didn't pay the same rate as we did. We love St. Martin Next Year we will have to find a new hotel maybe WESTIN OR RUI

"Great location, terrible service"
The tripadvisor reviews are spot on about this place. The location is awesome. The food was delicious, but there weren't a lot of options and the restaurants are open only at certain times. There are times during the day when the pizza place is the only option for food, unless its Sunday, then you have a good hour of no food available. The hotel staff was terrible. I encountered very few waitresses at the restaurants that actually provided good service. The hotel is a little outdated but the rooms were well kept, the beds were comfortable, and you get free wifi. The hotel had a pretty good entertainment schedule. We had a beach party once, a chocolate party another night, and multiple movie nights at the pool. The main reason I would return to this hotel is for the location. You are right next to the famous Princess Juliana airport and a 5-minute-walk away from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Mullet Bay. Overall, it was a good trip minus the bad service.

"Good Hotel nice pool and close to the Beach"
This Hotel is nice the staff is helpful and nice we had the all-inclusive witch is the way to go. They have a nice buffet for Bfast and dinner as well as a restaurant for lunch overlooking the ocean. The food is good some thing are better than others but overall its good. The pool is nice they have a bar in it and the liquor is good they make good drinks. They have a upper scale restaurant called the Point that is nice but you need a reservation well worth going one night and its included in the package. The ocean water is so nice and you can watch the planes come in so low you think you can touch them. They have a Casino across the street as well as Sushi and a roof top bar all nice places to try ( not included ) for a family trip its great you will have a nice time. The island is safe and clean its not a five star Hotel if that's what you want then go somewhere else but if you want a nice place that's affordable than this is the place to go you wont be disappointed. this was are second time there and trust me we will be back.

"2.5 - 3 stars"
The hotel itself seemed to be in the midst of renovations, but it needs more renovating. The balconies needed a fresh coat of paint and the pool needs to be re-lined. The waterfall needs to be repainted (there was moss and rust on the underside of the waterfall balcony). The interior of the hotel was beautiful though, clean and shiny. There is a Ping-Pong table, a Jenga table and a Dominoes table in the lobby along with a piano and some couches. Also in the lobby: a small casino, bar and internet café (3 computers). The rooms themselves were clean. It seemed that housekeeping would come by in the afternoon rather than the morning though. There were times my husband and I would go down for breakfast, go back tom the room to change and housekeeping had not come by yet. Housekeeping did a nice job though. The AC did shut off twice by itself and we did have to call the front desk. This is an All-Inclusive Resort. BUT it is 2 or 3 Hotels that share the 3 restaurants on the premises. The Buffet had a mediocre selection of food, without too much variety. The food was fresh and tasty. The Point (the "fancy" restaurant) requires reservations, but the food is pretty good (although not served as hot as I would have liked). The Grill was nice too. All outdoor seating, but since it is by the sea, not hot. One thing to know: cats roam around the resort. They do beg for food around meal times but are not obnoxious or bothersome. The Casino is across the street. It is a decent size.

"Great all-inclusive in St. Maarten:-)"
Great location in St. Maarten, and watching the planes take/off land right off the beach was a once in a lifetime experience!! All-inclusive: plentiful drinks, good quality food and lots of variety/choices for everyone in the family. The hotel staff went out of their way to be accommodating and were a lot of fun! In particular, Jessenia at the front desk and Sheryl at the Palms Grill Bar delivered exceptional service! With only a few upgrades (new liner on the pool & A/C in meeting areas), this would be a five star for us. We will definitely be returning!

"Overpriced"
Rooms are clean and big enough, beds were lumpy and not comfortable, food was ok.. Entertainment was pathetic. Location is excellent, right next door to the airport. Sometimes it can get really noisy because the runway can Bessel from your room. Beach was good. Not too big but landing of all the planes makes it interesting spot. For the price we paid I definitely think it is overpriced. But there is not much of a choice on this island for all inclusive resorts.

The best part of the Sonesta is that you are close to the beach. The staff at the hotel were not very friendly. It was very hard to get any of them to even smile. The hotel really only has 1 buffet and 1 restaurant that you can go to. Our room was very musty and damp, even with the air conditioner on. Our toilet constantly ran. "Perfect If you like aircraft noise"
The resort is very basic, very close to the airport runway and if you're at the beach next door, it's just awful as big and small planes land frequently. The facilities are basic with the 3 restaurants serving basic food. Don't expect anything fancy. We didn't spend much time as we did the island tour, the catamaran tour and the day trip to Anguilla. Disappointing resort for the $3000 we spent.

Arrived at sonesta maho at 1:30 pm. Check in wasn't around 3 pm. Understood, was able to use hotels amenities while waiting for room, that was great. Room wasn't ready until 5:45 pm. They tried to give us another room that was ready. That was fine until I we arrived at the room over looking a tar roof, that they claim was, " garden view ". We were already tired and wanted to wash up after the looking wait for the room. We were so fed up with all the run around that they were giving us that we almost pack up out things and wanted to go to sonesta at Philipsburg. "Not bad, Not my favorite, Probably won't go back"
Overall it was fine. The guest room was clean, comfortable, and paying a little more for the ocean view was worth it. Staff is SLOW at everything. From check in, to meals, to drinks it seems there are two speeds: slow or stop. I was amazed at how many front desk people needed to be brought in on the check in process (pre-paid, room not ready at 1hr past check in). Not complicated but clearly not efficient from the staff side. We did leave a phone in a room. Two hours later we went back to look. Room was locked, only access by staff, no phone. It is clear to us a staff member took the device, but not accountability from the hotel. Not even an apology. Parking was fine, easy, and worth the $5/day. Meals were edible, but not impressive. Expected more regional efforts and higher quality on the seafood.

"All inclusive with direct beach access."
Super value for the money. Staff very helpful. Some didn't get in a hurry, but when I am on vacation it's nice to not have employees scurrying around. (I experience hustle and bustle at home everyday.). They were very attentive and respectfully calm. The island is small, yet it is best to rent a car and definitely scout about. There are so many different beaches to explore and experiencing the culture is a must. It would be good to have about five full days just for exploring. Our only negative experience with the property is that it flows directly into another property, The Point. The Point has no signs posted that Sonesta guests cannot walk into that area. A guard is positioned there to turn away everyone from Sonesta. Yet, at night, The Point allows Sonesta guests to have dinner in their area. Seeing they did not welcome us any other time, we did not grace them with our presence for dinner. Dinner at Sonesta's Ocean Terrace is fabulous...who needs The Point? Ocean Terrace serves buffet with an excellent selection. They are open most days for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dining there is your choice of indoor air conditioning, outdoors on covered patio, or outdoors directly beside ocean cliff. All three offer beautiful ocean views! The room was exactly as described. Ours was on 8th floor with dynamic ocean and pool views. We could easily watch planes land and take off from our room. There's not much aircraft activity at night, so rest is not disturbed.

when we first arrived at Sonesta my reservation was incorrect it took two hours to get checked into our room.check in is at 3we checked in after 5. They really pushed for us to go to the Ocean Point resort which is a sister resort next to Maho but higher price. Also Ocean Point Sonesta was no wear near completed construction noise all day. No infinity pool. Do Not Book OCEAN POINT SONESTA. Maho hotel was in decent shape food was very limited, ran out of food often or closed early for no apparent reason other than staff was done. Most of the staff was very rude unhelpful and we felt like we were bothering them when requested basic service. Our bar service was the worst we waited at least 10 minutes sometimes and the bartenders would not make eye contact whatsoever. Torally unacceptable at a all-inclusive hotel. "Not a 4 star hotel."
We had a room near a bar that was loud our fist night and the staff was able to meet our request of changing rooms. We were placed in a not renovated room but it was quiet and clean. Hotel only has three restaurants not 5.....one restaurant changes names between day and night! Pool needs a new liner. No transportation between sister hotel in Philipsburg....we took the bus for $2 each vs. $20 taxi each way ( same time to get there) it was neat watching the airplanes land and take off...only 2 minute walk to beach/ runway area....you do get used to the airplane noise ....entertainment at night was ok...nice enough for families ....hotel does not have a beach even thought pictures on line show one....erosion I guess...Mullet beach is a 10 minute walk and worth it...you can rent chairs and umbrella for $5 each and there is food/ drink/ bathroom (port-o-potty) available. Overall look of hotel is "tired"....we heard from others staying at nearby hotels/timeshares that overall places are "tired" at least out he Dutch side of the island.
