"Very nice for the price"
The room was very clean and in great shape. Only drawback was the shuttle to/from the metro. This hotel and the one next door share a shuttle. The last return shuttle leaves the metro station at 8:15 pm. At that time, we had the five of us and found out that there were 8 people from the other hotel waiting for the same 10 passenger van. When we asked […] if the van could return and pick up the rest of us, we were told that his was the last van. So we all piled in and sat on each other, on the floor, etc to fit in the van. It's less than a 10 min drive, they could have made another trip. Would have been very unsafe if we had been in an accident. Some of the other in the van were elderly. The driver dropped us all off at the confor inn and the elderly ladies had to walk across the parking lot to the day's inn. Would have only taken him a few seconds to swing around to thier hotel. "Not terribly pleased"
The hotel seems to not be in a very nice area for starters. It is plenty clean, however there were always a few seedy looking people hanging out in the lobby and napping on the couches. The room that we ended up with was unfortunately at the end of a hallway next to a stairwell and the door to the stairs was rather loud. We ended up in a handicapped […] accessible room so the bathroom was very big but the floor for the shower and the bathroom tile was at the same level and no matter how careful you were you ended up with a lake spilling out from the shower, into the bathroom and even into the hallway even after putting down three large towels on the floor. The shower attachment was at a really strange height and the water never, never heated up even though it was fairly early (before 7AM) when I took a shower. "Do not use the shuttle"

The lobby was very inviting, the staff was wonderful, but there was an awful musty smell as soon as the elevator opened onto my floor. The smell continued into the room. I was waken in the middle of the night itching & scratching and I found some kind a insect/bug in my bed. I had bit marks on my arms, which was the part of my body that was exposed. From the time of the bites, my arms started to swell but I throught things would get better. This was not the case, the itching, scratching, & sweling continued and then […] can pain. I was having an adverse reaction to the insect/bug bits and I had to go to the emergency room to be treated. I informed the frontdesk and was moved to a room on a different floor. "Don't book with Expedia"
I tried to book my hotel directly with the hotel and not Expedia. I found the hotel # on line and called, they said i called Expedia so I hung up, 15 seconds later I got a return phone call from someone who said they were with the Hotel and not Expedia. I expressed 3 times that if the person was with Expedia i didn't want to book the hotel and wanted […] to book the hotel directly with the Hotel. I didn't care if it cost more to book through the Hotel. The most important part of the experience was to be able to get a reciept at check out so I could drop in the mail and get refunded for the expense through work. When checking out the hotel cleck could not give me a reciept because she said I booked through Expedia. I am very fusturated with Expedia. The person I booked with identified herself as an employee of the hotel and said she didn't work for Expedia. "Room not bad...lost me with customer service."
The room was clean when we first got there. Ended up having a leaky air conditioner that soaked the floor. The thing that really frustrated us was that we paid the additional $10 for a third person and only had 2 towels and 1 wash cloth. We called down to the front desk to get more and they said they would be right up. Called again 15 minutes later, […] they would be right up. Called a third time, they would be right up. 15 minutes later, they arrived. 50 minutes after our original call and we were already late for meeting friends that day. The front desk person was very nice and upgraded me to a room with a king-sized bed. The only problem was, there was a distinctive odor of cat urine in that room. Apparently this hotel is under new management, so maybe they'll get their act together. I checked in at 8pm after a day of travel and work. I was told my room wasn't ready and that it would be 10 minutes (really 30). The price was right at the time I was looking for rooms while visiting DC. The neighborhood was old, crowded, hard to drive around in. The roads and traffic situation was very congested. We stayed for 5 days while my husband was in Inova Alexandria Hospital. Location 2.1 miles from Inova, has attached IHOP restaurant with other restaurants nearby. "Not quite what I had in mind"
Ok...usually Comfort Inns have been pretty decent...not this one. When I first got my room...it smelled bad. I asked to be moved to another room, and the hotel personnel politely did so. They were always nice and friendly. All seemed to be well till about 5AM when the alarm clock woke me up...from the NEXT room over. The room must have been unattended […] as the alarm rang for quite some time (really thin walls). I get back to sleep and about 9am, housekeeping is knocking at the door (isn't that a little early for housekeeping?) I wanted to watch the NBA playoffis only to realize two BIG problems...1...my tube tv (no flatscreen) is SO dark, I thought I was wearing sunglasses. Even with the shades closed and lights off...the TV was still pretty dark. 2...there was no TNT channel, so I missed the game altogether. Those things aside, the room was clean (after I was moved) and the location is pretty close to downtown DC as I was able to get to downtown in about 10 minutes via 395. The hotel could benefit from some renovations, but the room provided a decent nights sleep. If you're a light sleeper, you may want a room away from the elevators as the walls and space under the door does a poor job of sound dampening. During the mornings, I was awaken several times by noisy people passing by as my room was RIGHT by the elevator. Parking can be challenging at night, but I was able to find a space each night. The room and public areas were always clean and tidy. While the elevators are somewhat slow - they do arrive and have been upgraded sometime during the past year. Service was excellent. Upon finding a problem with the air conditioner/heater [noise] I reported it to the Desk Clerk and immediately was given an alternative room. I am not sure about the $5 credit for breakfast given by the hotel - IHOP does some funny accounting and I question whether they do give the client proper credit. The location is very good - just off I-395 South at Duke St. A cab from National Airport takes about 15-20min. if there is no heavy traffic and costs approx. $32 + tip. "Good - but could be better."
There has been a vast improvement in the decor and rooms at the hotel. Due to its location I have used the Comfort Inn for many years. Two problems on this visit - the security safe was locked upon arrival and took two requests to the desk to rectify the matter. The second issue was the lack of HOT water for 4 of the 7 days. At best the water was warm […] - but not what you reallly wanted. From seeing plumber's trucks - I surmised that there was a heating problem with either the boiler or the hot water heater.
