"First not perfect stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 28, 2012
We have stayed at this hotel before and find it great. I think this time we may have ended up with a Pet Friendly room (which was the throw off). It had an off smell to the room & due to medical issues my sense of smell is very sensitive. There were a few small issues but nothing that would turn me away from staying here again. I just know to ask for a pet free room next time. One amenity I miss in no microwave in the room.

"Travel Lodge Vic, good local not far from downtown"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 26, 2012
The Travel Lodge of Victoria is a good place to stay. The hotel from the outside looks fine. The rooms are entered from the outside instead of a central hall way. If you do not required an adjoining room make sure you request that you do not get one. The adjoining door provides little sound insulation. The rooms have been updated. Beds and linens were new. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker and room-safe nice. We were in Victoria during a snow storm so it was cold and windy outside. The room was cool the HVAC unit was not really a heater, But the comforter on the bed was nice and warm. Would stay again.

Convenient place esp. if you stayed there for more than one night as the room comes with a kitchenette. We only stayed one night thus didn't make use of it. Would go back in a heart beat!

The staff were great. I phoned the night before to see if I could get a early check in as it was my dad's 80th surprise party close by. Everyone was very accommodating and were expecting me when I arrived. They were even great when we decided to change rooms for a quieter one. Thank you.

"Huntington Hotel Victoria, B.C."
Good hotel with a large, comfortable and clean room. One drawback was that if your room was on the first floor (we were in a 'dog friendly' room) it was actually necessary to have two short flights of stairs to walk. Also, to get to breakfast, more stairs were necessary. This was fine for us but older couples might be in some difficulty. The area of […] the hotel is very nice, further from town but still near restaurants and other main attractions. Pet fees were higher here with a fee per day per dog where other places we have been charged per day period. Read more
"too bad"
I want to write a good review of this hotel but just can't. We have stayed there twice because of the location , the rates, dog friendly, and parking garage but we would rather not stay again. There was plumbing noise from upstairs almost all night, and the carpets are filthy in the pet rooms and the regular rooms. The place really needs a facelift […] . Read more

"Huntingdon Hotel and Suites"
This hotel offers good value and a reasonable standard in this very interesting area of Victoria. It is not fancy. I've stayed there several times and never been dissatisfied.
"Great location. Good value"
Conveniently located and within walking distance to all downtown and harbor activities. Underground parking for $9/day is pricey but impossible to park on street with 1 hour limit during the day. Nice enough room, but could hear neighbor's plumbing too well. Needs a microwave. Has refer. and coffeemaker. Bed was QUITE firm. Wind was blowing curtains […] in room with window shut but heater kept room warm in January. Plenty of fresh air! Breakfast/lunch room was VERY chilly in January. Had to wear a coat. Great hotel for the price. Really! Read more
"Huntingdon Hotel, Victoria"
We go to Victoria every January for my Bday and stay at different hotels every time, we loved the location and comfort of this one so much I've just booked another trip for March!
"Cozy, convenient getaway, right downtown"
OK, the location is absolutely the reason for the hotel's existence. I live in the area and have stayed there twice, but I've known of it for a long time. It's been around a while, one of those hotels with studio-style suites as well as the more standard hotel room with two double beds and an iron (etc). It's got an absolutely lovely breakfast room […] that looks out over a garden with the Coho ferry pulling into the harbour beyond. The rates are great, though do realize that not all the rooms come equipped with studio amenities of fridge, stove, dishes, kettle. Parking is extra. You can always take the chance of there being on-street parking in front of the hotel, but if you're wake up on a weekday, be prepared to get up and move the car because you can only park 1 hour on weekdays starting at 8 am. The neighbourhood is great; 10-min walk along the harbour to Fisherman's Wharf one direction, a good 30 min walk along the harbour to the famous blue bridge in the other. And behind the hotel is the James Bay neighbourhood. V interesting residential neighbourhood, quite safe to stroll about it, and even walk all the way to the Ogden Point Breakwater. Read more

"Great Value"
This hotel is extremely good value for money. The hotel staff are very helpful and quick to give additional information when needed. The rooms are clean, and location is perfect. If anything could be improved, it would be the beds which I find quite hard. Perhaps also the parking charge could be mentioned in the room rates/information. Overall, I was […] very pleased with this hotel and have stayed here before and recommended it to other people. Read more
"Huntingdon Hotel in James Bay/Inner Harbour"
Always a pleasant surprise when you get good value at a very competitive rate. First floor room was very quiet and I really only had one complaint -- the beds were too short. I'm not a tall guy but I don't like my feet dangling off the end of the bed. The wireless internet was crappy but it seems it is crappy no matter where you stay in a hotel.
"Huntingdon Hotel & Suites On The Harbour, Victoria"
Clean and cozy. Nice and frendly Staff on Front Desk. Secured car park underground but there is a cost. walking distance to most of the attractions by the harbour.
A comfortable, relaxed place - comfortable rooms for low end cost.
"Convenient location, friendly staff, clean rooms"
Stayed here over the weekend. Hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. I don't agree with some of the reviews here that the hotel is old and not well-maintained. Au contraire, I felt very comfortable in my room, at the nice fireplace, and even in the hot tub in the basement :) Location is very good, only a three-minute walk from […] the old harbor! Read more
The restaurant was under renovations, so it would have been helpful to have the coffee shop open later than two o'clock in the afternoon. And I don't think you can say you have a gym. There is only two, very old stationary bikes. And I think the spa needs some sprucing up - again, terribly old - a renovation there would be greatly appreciated! But those […] are my only complaints - otherwise it was great! Read more
"Convenient, clean and welcoming"
Enjoyed our stay, helpful staff extended our stay no problem. Love the area (near Downtown and James Bay) - will definitely be back!
"GREAT value: charming, clean, pleasant!"
This hotel was a great value. While some describe it as dated, I found it to be very charming! Front desk was helpful and responded so very well to our needs. Spent a weekend there while at an athletic competition for our children - convenient to surrounding area and great opportunity to see downtown Victoria.
"Huntingdon Hotel & Suites on the Harbour Victoria"
Nice place, close to a lot of amenities. We walked most everywhere we wanted to go. Close to several Geo-caches as well. My wife is Celiac (Gluten Free) and the restaurant in the Hotel has the most excellent Gluten free Onion Cheese bread. My wife was really impressed. The work out room leaves a little bit to be desired but the Hot Tub and Sauna were, […] well, HOT! Tough getting all your luggage from the lobby to the lobby Floor as there are 5 steps up to put you on the main floor. I would rate it 7 out of 10. Read more

"Our stay at the Huntingdon"
We were very pleased that the hotel was so close to the things that we wanted to see. We took advantage of the night lights as we are photographers. A big plus not to have to go too far from the hotel at night....We also liked that our bed was a double. So many places make a big deal out of King size...We liked the photos of "the hunt" as we have been […] watching a British t.v. series of "old England" at the turn of the century & they fit right in. "Clean but Old"
Nothing the matter with this hotel. It is what it is if you need a cheaper place to stay. Great service, it is clean but it is old. The mint green walls with the plaid red carpet is quite amusing. lol
"Huntingdon Hotel & Suites - Victoria BC"
Very pleasant stay, front desk lady was exceptionally helpful and friendly and very happy to assist with remote of TV that was not working. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for upgrade so we had to look for a restaurant outside of the hotel. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a place to lay their head with no frills attached. Only […] complaint is that the bathroom taps tend to be difficult to use and when you do manage to get them running the water gushes out of them. Only complaint. Read more
"Huntingdon Hotel in Victoria BC"
Showing her age a little in the decor and especially the carpets but overall a very pleasant stay with a really good little restaurant and good service. Close to Downtown and the wwaterfront and really reasonable. Definitely markde for my next trip.
"Its location is the only good thing"
This hotel is beautifully situated in downtown Victoria with close access to everything. It is, however, run-down and in dire need of a good renovation - not only the extremely dated decor of the rooms, but overall. Our room must have been musty because it had been heavily doused with air/carpet freshener to the point where it was revoltingly stinky, […] and we had to leave, hoping the one window cracked open would air it out. Kind of makes you wonder what they are covering up :( The beds were hard and one of the beds had stained sheets. The room and bathroom were clean enough, but the smell of the deodorizer was bad enough to notice throughout the night - when the rattling headboards woke us up. The restaurant is okay, nothing to write home about. We visit Victoria frequently and the last time we stayed there, we were at a premium downtown hotel, and paid less that at this one. We only selected this one because it was one of the few with available rooms on the weekend we were there, when it was a holiday and a big event was taking place. We will *not* stay there again. "Huntingdon Hotel - Victoria BC - Dirty Rooms??"
Got 2 Dirty rooms in a row before they finally caved and upgraded me to a suite. Suite was okay, TV's were old and in terrible condition, but at that point I was just happy to have a warm place to sleep... Won't be going here again.
"The huntingdon Hotel - central location but ..."
Room comfortable and centrally located. No kettle in the room to make tea, and we were told to just use the coffee machine when we enquired at reception. No information in the room about hotel services, and the bar fridge was completely empty, but they still put $300 on my credit card to cover any extras. One of our party rang for room service at 7am […] and was told that breakfast was at 8 and the phone put down on him! So all up we won't stay there again. Read more
"parking"
I did not find the parking suitable. We were not informed of the 9$ fee at time of check in but foound a notice on my car when leaving. After much discussion , as well as others complaining it was waived Also when we dialed the desk no one answered tho there was someone there
We enjoyed our stay and found the hotel comfortable and the staff very helpful. Our meals were excellent in the breakfast room and tyhe Gatsby Mansion. We appreciated that the hotel was so close to the Inner Harbour activities and the shops downtown.
"Victoria The Huntington"
Room had cherry pits on the bathroom floor, the next day they continued to be there, so not sure if anyone talked to housekeeping about it. When things like that are left you question what other areas they do not disinfect? Management gave voucher for supper to compensate.

Very good location for the price. Room is generally clean but the bathroom did not have a shower curtain. Service was prompt.

"My disappointment"
I booked into the hotel only to find that from the elevator from the garage to my room on the 1st floor meant I still had a total of 10 stairs to negotiate with my luggage to get to my room. No assistance offered. On my first full day there when I went to have breakfast it was to find the restaurant closed which meant I had to find someplace else to […] eat. I had used the shower in the am and used the rubberized bath mat and later that day after my return I found that the room attendant had not cleaned the tub because the bath mat was still at the base of the tub. I have never stayed at a hotel where bathroom cleanest was such a low priority. Your staff did not have working knowledge of the local sites around the hotel. I was waiting at the front desk when a tourist came into the hotel to ask where the Artisian alley dispaly was located. ( had noticed that it was on the hotel grounds at the back under the first floor rooms) but your staff had not idea at all. As a matter of fact the female desk clerk told the women she never even heard of the place but the info about the Artisans displany appears in all of your website info of what the hotel offers. You advertise a bar/lounge and yet when I want to enjoy a glass of wine on my first and subsquent evening of my staff the bar was closed. I used your whirpool hot tub but the water was so hot I nearly scalded myself . I am now also frustrated because this review window is at the botton of the page and will will not advance forward as I type so I cannot proof read what I have put down. I cannot recommend your place to anyone and I will not stay at your place again Read more
"Dull - but very convenient."
The Huntingdon Hotel is close to the harbor, to the museum, to the legislative building, lots to see and do within easy walking distance. The hop on and off bus stops right outside too. As a senior traveling alone I felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood. Front desk and housekeeping staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, […] however showing its age, the decor somewhat dull and dreary. It was satisfactory for the price, particularly at the height of the summer. Read more
