"Stained Furniture and Ikea fixtures"
Horrible. The staff was nice for the most part, though it was always one employee on duty and that caused long waits for the simplest things. The furniture literally had stains on it - disgusting. I think they were going for thrift store chic, but failed miserably. The floor in the rooms look like they havent been cleaned in a long long time!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room very small . Dirty, service very bad . Never come back againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Comforter had bandaid and peanut butter/feces smeared on it , which I promptly sent to reception, shower curtain was speckled at the bottom with something brown. On the upside, staff was very courteous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Things like the limited parking in the garage and not having an ipod dock or fridge in the room really didnt get to me, what did is the horrible customer service that was shown to us by the guy working the front desk. The hotel itself was over sold but something i was willing to deal with but that one guy ruined it so i would not stay there againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"the hotel is not wroth for 3 stars,"
i am staying here now, i was expect the hotel is ok, since the price is expensive . however, the hotel is too simple, don't even have hair dryer, super simply , clothes has no where to hand on too. the wall is so old, the bed is not comfort, everything is old. with paying this price, i suggest to book another one such as double tree. i won't come back […] here again, the tips for me to learn from here is no more booking any hotel you never heard before. Nice room and good price for LA.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room and bathroom not clean. Hotel itself not terrible, but needs more attention to detail. Maybe when you factor in the low price, it was to be expectedGenuine Expedia guest review
"NICE PLACE OVERALL"
Our room was clean. Staff was friendly. would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Price is right"
Resonably priced, secure parking(included in price) and a comfortable bed close to Cedars Sinai was just what we needed. As others have indicated, there are no real ammenities to speak of and the lobby feels a little sketchy. Overall though, I was very happy with our stay. The staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Room was large, clean, […] and quiet. I actually really liked the hardwood on the floors too, as hotel carpet can be pretty nasty. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and updated as well. Will not hesitate to stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Many good things, especially the price, but very minimal. No haid dryer in room. Nothing like a vending machine. Security poor...someone could walk in from the street and get to any floor in the hotel without going through the front lobby. No chain guard on the door. Air conditioning was window open, and could hear the conversation of the family in […] the apartment next door...which, by the way, all had guard rails on their window and doors. BUT the location was great, bed comfortable, shower good, parking super convenient...so it just depends on how important those other things are to a person. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel downtown but beware the carpark"
The rooms are nicely decorated and minimalistic. Bed was extremely comfortable and bedding looked fresh and clean. Bathroom was very clean, but the faux suede bed end/stool had some very questionable looking white stains all over it. Probably not the right choice of fabric to have in a motel room - especially if you can't clean it between guests! The […] parking in the structure beneath the hotel is limited, so make sure you get in early and mostly, make sure you check OUT early if you have somewhere to be! Cars that don't fit in the parking structure are parked off site and in the morning, they all get double parked in the hotel parking lot. The front desk attendant has to move all the cars out of the way so you can get out - not terrible but something to factor in when working out how much time you need to get somewhere. "Much better than its name implies"
The rooms are big with a very comfortable king sized bed. The bathrooms have upgraded tile and fixtures. Parking is free, though on weekends you'll need to double park and let someone from the hotel move your car when needed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bare Bones Clean Hotel with Great Bed"
This Hotel is in the middle of everything, but not walking distance. The employees were very nice and helpful. The room is bare bones. The TV did not even have a sports channel. The walls had no decorations. The bathroom did not have soap. The room was clean and the bed was great. The parking is nice to be free, but on a weekend night you will be forced […] to double park. price included parking and that along with its location contributed to our decision. well; we got what we paid for... the rooms had no closets or anywhere to hang clothes. bathroom did not have bar soap. parking was a disaster!! parking spaces were very limited and hotel was full; so cars were double, triple and quadruple parked... this was somewhat […] comical ... we didnt need a place to hang clothes; so that didnt bother us either. TV was a small quality Vizio flatscreen. offered a large variety of cable channels. we had fresh towels and sheets nightly. if you are looking for cheap hotel including parking; i recommend provided youre not expecting anything more than what you pay for. Also, very noisy.... we could hear people walking in the room above us and down the hallways. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"What a deal!"
Read the expedia and yelp reviews before we booked so was pleased to see the hotel was actually better than a lot of the reviews. Very clean, wood floors a definite improvement over iffy carpet in most places, and it was definitely the cleanest bedspread I've ever encountered in a hotel. I usually take them off the bed first thing. Very much as the […] official pictures portray, modern and clean. The hotel is in a residential area of Koreatown just two blocks off Wilshire. There are very good restaurants and coffee shops nearby, a grocery in the Koreatown mall has fresh food, coffee, baked goods, wine, liquor, etc.. They have fixed the pool so the back area now looks fine, didn't swim but for a future trip it would be nice. No mini fridge but they do provide ice if you call down to the desk. Free parking underground which is unusual, it's limited but they will move the cars around as needed if you double park and leave the keys. The neighborhood is walkable day or night, I walked alone early evening, probably might not late night but that is true everywhere. A lot of nightlife nearby. Close to downtown, the museums, etc. I would definitely stay there again as it is very reasonable. It's not luxe but for the money it's excellent. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to LA Metro station"
Very cost effective, basic accommodations (no iron or hair dryer), but 2 blocks from LA Metro station on Wilshire Blvd. Saved $36 in parking by leaving my car in the below ground garage and taking Metro ($2 for the ride and $1 for the TAP card). Nothing fancy here - just a good night's sleep. Recently remodeled to "modern" look with updated bathrooms. "Very nice room, comfortable bed"
My only complaint would be the parking. A little difficult to figure out (just drive up to the gate and it'll open). Also, the parking is limited, requiring double parking at times (leaving keys with front desk). Very nice staff and comfortable, simple rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could be nicer for that price"
Overall was ok. But could b better. The hotel was a bit creepy but new. Bathroom was pretty new but they only have one hook for hanging all the towels. I had to ask for new towels cuz they won't dry out. Room was ok. There are not many shelf or closet to put our stuff at all. We had to pile everyhing up on one chair. I never thought shelfs or closet […] would be that important for a hotel stay but once theres none. It was a bit of a heck. No dryer. Parking included. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel close to wiltern theatre"
My boyfriend and I stayed at the shelter hotel on New Year's Eve and found it to be a great hotel close to our destination. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in and the hotel was very quiet. Great deal for the money spentGenuine Expedia guest review
when we arrived we thought that the outside of the hotel looked fine but once we walked into the lobby we were shocked.....dirty, dusty, dark room with what looked like an old teachers desk. the office phone they had look so worn down and dirty that i was already worried. "Convenient Koreatown Location"
Decent hotel on a residential street about a block away from a lot of Koreatown restaurants and bars. Needs a little maintenance but overall it was fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but a little noisy"
It is a great location and over all it was really good for a short stay. My biggest complaint was that the rooms are close together. The people in the next room were pretty noisy. It wasn't awful, but if you are looking for some peace and quiet it may not be the best choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Was in town for the Pearl Jam concert and just needed a place to crash. It was a pretty good size room, but felt a bit empty without a couch or art on the walls. Satellite TV, free wifi, comfy bed. Super classy, great and accommodating staff, beautiful and chic furniture and decor. Great price at $99/night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel wasn't so bad but the parking isn't the greatest. They have a small garage for people to park but not enough parking. We had to double park and leave our car key at the front desk so they can move it for other guests.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location of the hotel was great since we wanted to be in Koreatown. The accommodation was fine except there was no hooks or rods for hangers anywhere in the room or the bathroom. Not even for your towels! That was really strange. It was as if they were afraid of making any holes in the wall anywhere. Lucky we had toilet paper on a roll, not on the […] table or the floor. My room at this hotel was nicely decorated, the contents (tv, radio, etc) were nice. The staff was very helpful. I found it to be further from downtown than I had anticipated. "Great value in Koreatown"
The Lobby looked a little strange as it was just a small movable desk with someone on a laptop taking the reservations. Not professional, so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, the parking was fine and easy to do, and the room itself was AWESOME! I don't think I've ever had such a comfortable pillow in my life. Definitely recommend and was surprised. "Worst hotel I ever been"
We arrived to check in on saturday, and the guy at the lobby wasn't that friendly, didn't matter the room was comfy however the floor and the sofa where not that clean, didn't matter the room was so so, we stayed at a hotel because we where going to Universal Studios Horror nights which opens at7 PM and closes at 2 am that was the only reason for my […] stay to not have to drive to SD in the middle of the night, so when we comeback to the hotel tired at 2am, the Parking door was closed as well as the glass door to the elevator, tried to talk to someone pressing the interphone no one answered, I was knocking at the door several times, we where not noticed that the hotel closes the doors, so I had to go to a near restaurant to make a phone call to the number that is on the hotel door for assistance, no one answered I tried like 5 times, this was getting anoying and we just wanted to rest, so after 2 long hours I started throwing coins to the lobbys window which it was on the 2nd flour and the door opened at 4 am, I think this is disappointing I am paying over 140 US dollars for a night and to have to go through this experience, I will never comeback, when I got to the lobby to check out the receptionist was sleeping at the sofa, i don't think that is professional, not sure if something can be done but definitely the worst hotel experience. "quiet but still close to stuff"
I had an overall good stay. The hotel and room was a little sparse compared to the pictures. It does have modern decor but it didn't look like they spent much, sort of ikea-esk. The lobby looked like someones apartment and the main desk was literately a desk you can buy at office max and set up in a hour. Our room was pretty bare except for a bed, two […] side tables and a table, no artwork so it seemed a little empty. I liked the overall basic modern decor though. My only gripe was that the floors were beyond dirty! It wasn't sticky but it made my feet black every time I walked on it like it hasn't been mopped in months. Every night I had to wash my feet before bed and hop around crazily to avoid touching the floor again before getting on the bed. I loved the location though. It's a few blocks from the busy part of koreatown but within walking distance to food and shops in a quieter neighborhood. Getting in and out was a breeze because we were off the main roads. "Cheap Hotel with nice sized room, but no service"
It was as expected...however, looking at the pictures, you wouldn't think it's that bad and it isn't for the most part in your room (which is somewhat remodeled), but the hallways look like an old apartment building, the lobby feels like an artist's office space, rather than a nice hotel lobby. They ran out of the "do not disturb" signs, so even though […] we told the front desk not to clean our room, we came back and noticed that someone had been in there since the bed was done. Also, they had no ice or ice machines...which they said they were getting the next day. The parking garage is nice, but there aren't a ton of spots, so on a Friday or Saturday night, expect there to be double parking around your spot and you have to leave your keys at the front desk and let the hotel staff move your car if there is a conflict with someone else's. Overall, the room and bed were clean, with exception of our shower head in the bathroom, which looked like it was rusted over and definitely not clean. We probably would not stay there again, unless the service got better, even though it was lower priced than other hotels in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Safety is the concern here."
I had low expectations because of the price and the location, but it's rare to see a hotel with such low levels of security. The entrance (and elevator) are on the ground floor, registration is on the 2nd, and the rooms are above that. Anyone could walk in off the street and make it to the upper floors. My room's door was pretty flimsy and there was […] no chain lock. Overall, it did not feel safe. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Value for the Price"
I had to book a trip on short notice to LA. All the "big name" hotels were booked solid, or were too far away, or were waaay more expensive than my budget would allow. Shelter Hotel was close to downtown, and the price was very reasonable. The hotel itself is sparse and aged - no pool or other amenities like an exercise room or restaurant, elevators […] are a little old, but my room was clean and relatively quiet, the air conditioner worked, the HDTV had DirectTV (not some lame hotel channel selection), and the staff was courteous and efficient. If you are looking for a clean, relatively quiet place in a safe location for a business trip, this hotel fits the bill. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel room was! The stairwells were a tad run down looking, but the room itsself was very spacious, clean and simple, which is hard to find in LA. The room didn't have the usual amenities found in a room, like a mini-fridge, phone or microwave, which I imagine contributed to the low rate. It was slightly annoying, […] but there are lots of yummy restaurants nearby, easily found on Yelp. I didn't realize The Shelter actually has a pool, which is in the back, down another stairwell and is completely enclosed and private looking. There is a little pocket park nearby, which is nice to sit in, and drink some Boba. Overall, this is a great place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
