Well placed hotel, just 'round-the-corner' from Union Square and the Powell Street tram stop (fun to watch them turn the trams around, but don't use this stop though, you'll queue for ages - take the tip we did and catch it at the the first stop, at the end of Farrell). Close to the MUNI transport system on Market Street (buses and streetcars to most parts of the city). Also a short walk from Powell BART station, which is handy if you catch the cheap & efficient BART train to/from the airport. Tourist information office (09:00 - 17:00hrs) is at Powell BART station, so this is also handy. Friendly, welcoming, but unobtrusive staff. Michele (concierge) was excellent. Tidy, comfortable rooms, with ironing board, hairdrier, etc (useful for long distance travellers). Shower pressure a bit lack lustre (on Floor 15 at least!!) All the car rental offices seem to be on or near Mason Street too - useful for hiring or collecting your vehicle without a taxi ride. Lots of good bars & restaurants within walking distance and plenty of breakfast places. Try 'First Crush' (round corner on Cyril Magnin), or if it's good weather ask to sit outside at 'Cheesecake Factory' (atop Macy's and overlooking Union Square).

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the Union Square area. It's very clean, nicely appointed, and the staff is competent and friendly. Room service and in-restaraunt dining at Anzu were great (an American-Japanese infusion). And the entertainment in The Rrazz Room was top notch. The hotel is located within easy walking distance of all the Union Square shopping and the theaters. And the views from our 22nd floor room were stunning. My only criticism is the added fee and restrictive policies around Wi-Fi access. It's a shame that such a nice hotel would nickel-and-dime you ($14.95 per day per computer!) for such a thing. Most luxury hotels these days just absorb such costs in the pricing of the room instead of leaving you feel slightly cheated.

My partner and I stayed here for my birthday this past weekend and had an Imperial Club Room on the 23rd floor. Our view was facing westward, which was ok since we live in the city, it was cool to see it from above. The room was nicely appointed, liked that it had a stereo system which is a rarity in hotel rooms. Bathroom was really cool with the built in TV to the mirror, modern decor. The Club Lounge was great. Evening reception with really great wine and beer, cheese, etc. The views from the Club Lounge were awesome. They even have a continental breakfast there in the AM. HINT: Ask the attendant to make you a Latte....super yum. And the best part, well at least for us...was the hotel was extremely LGBTQ friendly. From the treatment of their guests, to the shows they book in their lounge (Suzanne Westenhoefer, Gay Radio show...etc). We never felt uncomfortable. We will recommend the Hotel Nikko to visiting friends and family :)

If i was out most of the time the size would not have been an issue but since i spent a lot of time in the room it felt a bit claustrophobic. I think the pictures displayed on the hotel and hotels.com website were misleading. If we did not get the savings through hotels.com i would definitely have considered this hotel a rip off. Hotel is very nice. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is also descent. We had to stay at the Hotel Nikko only because the other hotel we were staying at two nights prior was booked. The hotel charges you for everything! Internet in the room will run you $14.95 for every 24 hour period. To use the pool, sauna or fitness center they charge you an additional $10.00 per person, per day. Mini bar and in room water is very expensive. We just walked to Walgreens a block or two away from the hotel and bought water and snacks for a fraction of the cost. If money is no option then this is the place for you!

We ate Sunday brunch (fairly ordinary, not worth the price). All in all, a very good weekend. The hotel needs a bit of a brush up in the hallways. The halls end up looking dirty because of the carpeting. The location was perfect for our plans.

I booked a Deluxe King room and when I arrived I was told they were out of this type of room. I was told the room I got was considered "Deluxe" but without the King bed. The front desk staff and manager were unwilling to try and make things right at first. All I wanted was what I booked. They eventually gave us free internet access for the rest of the stay and said they could move me into the actual room I booked the next day. They offered this after about 15 minutes of wrangling at the front desk. The thing that disappointed me the most is how reluctant they were to try and correct the problem. I accepted the internet offer, but did not want to move all of my stuff again the next day. The kicker is our friends checked into a Deluxe room after us. After I saw the size of their room I knew, I was not booked in a Deluxe room like they said I was. I've stayed in many hotels nicer than this one. I frankly am unsure how they maintain such a high rating. The rooms are small as most rooms in San Francisco are, but they were poorly furnished with dinged up miss-matched furniture. I had several maintenance issues as well: curtain rod separated from curtains, bathroom sink handle was broken, the remote control for the tv only allowed you to "channel up" so you had to go all the way around or type in the channel number to return to a channel. Lastly, they have great HD tvs, but no high definition programming which in my opinion defeats the purpose of having the really nice, big flat screen tv. For the prices, they need to provide HD broadcasting. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Save your money.

The hotel has great security during the night. You need to use your key card in order to get it. The bad part of it was that you have to pay 45 dollars a night for parking. Considering the amount of money that you are paying to stay there the parking should be free. I rented 2 rooms, and in one of the room the rug had a lot of stains on them. The view is not that great at all.

You don't get any extras with these rooms. It was a tiny room with a queen bed. While everything was nice and clean, there was nothing spectacular about the room. We were under the impression there would be free wireless, but you have to pay for it. We were also under the impression that breakfast came with the price of the room. Nope, you've got to pay for that as well. While I wasn't completely shocked by having to pay for parking, be prepared to pay quite a bit of money if you have a car. Overall, while the rooms were clean and I felt safe, this hotel is a bit over priced for nothing but a place to stay for the night.
