Only complaint is that there was not a belman on duty when we arrived to help with baggage. Seems like the hotel cut down on staff since last year when we stayed here last. Otherwise a great place to stay in the city. Great hotel. Great location.

I expected better from a hotel with this price tag and high rating. Our room reservation wasn't set up properly, in the hotel's system. Our room class included free internet. However, when I logged onto the internet I had to agree to pay the daily access fee, then go to the front desk to have the charge removed. I later learned there may have been a code that, if entered into their system, would have avoided the problem. Our room class also included continental bkfst in their executive club room. Access into the club room required use of our room key. However, once inside, we had to fill out paperwork, to identify ourselves and our room. All of this info was already available to the hotel when we used our room key to access the club room. Completely unecessary and a waste of our time. One of our wait staff, in the hotel lounge, was oblivious to his duties. Appeared at our table, sporadically. One of my guests ordered soup. When asked about the missing soup, after a long interval, his reply was that they had not given it to him. In that case, I suggested, then why not ask them for the missing item. To the chef's credit, he came out, served the soup, and told us the waiter had failed to place the order. He also comped the soup which was a nice gesture on his part. Mistakes happen, but my opinion was that this server's head was in the clouds. There are plenty of competent servers available, who would love to have this server's job. Otherwise, the concierge was pleasant and knowledgable, as was were the front desk and other service staff. This is an otherwise very nice facility that needs a little polish to finish the job.

We booked a Club Room using a Free Night promotion from Hotels.com, but were disappointed with the overall standard of the hotel. The room was dark, overlooked a 40 storey car park and the sink had a cracked basin. There is no swimming pool at the Westin River North but we were told that we could use the swimming pool at the Sheraton Hotel, 5 blocks away. This pool was nice, but the walk was in reality 8 blocks, which was a bit of a struggle with young kids! The Club Lounge served free non-alcoholic beverages between 5PM and 7PM, but the alcoholic drinks were very pricey. The continental breakfast served in the Club Lounge was very good.

We were very surprised at the hotel and the room. Our room was very spacious and had luxurious bed linens. We were very pleased that we were allowed to check in at 9 a.m. and then they kept our luggage for us after checkout until 11:00 that evening, so we were able to tour the city without dragging our luggage along with us. The concierge was very helpful, taking several minutes to explain how to get to different locations and recommending several restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is located very near Michigan Ave, if you are willing to walk a little. We were able to tour the city via foot and occasional bus transportation. The only disadvantage to the hotel was that there is construction work going on currently, which woke us up Saturday morning shortly before 8 a.m. Also, there is a fire department a few blocks from the hotel, so if sirens wake you up, this may not be the ideal hotel (unless you bring ear plugs!). Make sure to bring snacks/drinks with you, as there isn't a store close by that sells anything, nor are there vending machines in the hotel. The hotel does provide a fully stocked fridge with candy, pop, water and alcohol, but all are very expensive (1 bottle Gatorade was $6; 1 Reese's peanut butter cup (two cups) was $4). Overall, this hotel was wonderful and we'd highly recommend it to anyone! We couldn't believe that this was one of the cheaper hotels that was listed on hotels.com in Chicago-you'd never know it from the hotel and the service!

The hotel had a great location however did not have certain things I would consider standard with most hotels... First, the lack of an attached parking garage leaves one with two choices... paying for the valet or walking two blocks to the closest parking structure. Second, the deluxe suite (with river or city) did not feel deluxe at all... With two double beds it felt cramped... In addition, our "river-view" was of a parking structure and a little bit of the river. Lastly, the room did not come certain things one would consider standard for the overall cost of the hotel, namely a refrigerator and microwave. I had to reserve each for an extra charge. On top of everything else, when I arrived at the hotel the items were not waiting in my room. Instead, the front desk had to "see if they had any avaiable". Question: isn't that the point of the reservation? Overall, these inconvienances did not ruin my stay but, I would have preferred a little warning so I could have made adjustments.

I've stayed in this property previously but had paid much higher rates. Location is great for walking or cabbing to various destinations. Concierge was helpful in located teenager-friendly restaurants in the area. Valet parking is pricey... though includes in and out privileges. You can park less than 2 blocks away in a public garage for a fraction of the price (enter from Kinzie between Clark & LaSalle).

My fiancee and I stayed at the Westin in Chicago's River North neighborhood for Valentine's Day. Despite dozens of other couples having the same great idea, check-in and all other service was smooth, fast, and friendly. Our deluxe room was exceedingly clean and comfortable, and the view out the window of the river and skyline was great. The hotel is well situated, surrounded by many restaurants and entertainment options. My sole quibble is that the overnight parking rate seems quite high, but I suppose that is to be expected in downtown Chicago. And once you have parked, you can drive away and park again at no extra charge.

I stayed there for a conference held in the hotel. The conference rate was $30 more than hotel.com rate. So, shop around. As far as the hotel goes, the location and room is excellent. It is close to subway (blue line). Blue line can take you back and forth from airport and or the Union station. It is very inexpensive and frees up the hassel of finding and paying premium for parking in Chicago.

We arrived at the hotel 10 minutes prior to the 3 pm check in. We were informed that they did not have any rooms w/ two beds clean and that it would be a few minutes if we wanted to wait for one. I told them that I reserved a room with two beds and needed two beds so I would wait for one. 25 minutes later I went to check with the desk again and had the same conversation with the same gentleman who didn't even recognize from our first conversation. Now 45 minutes past check in time I went to check again and was told by an arrogant man that since I booked through Hotels.com I wasn't guaranteed the room I booked and should take it up with one of their customer service agents if I was not happy with my stay. Ironic how a tip the bell man finally made our room appear. No compensation was given to us for our 1 and a 1/2 hr late check in accommodations! Thanks to this hotel we missed our dinner reservations. This type of service in a 4 star hotel should be against the law.
