The Westin Maui Resort & Spa - Maui Island

Overall we were satisfied with the hotel, but it wasn’t worth the almost $600 we spent! The staff, hotel and pool were great. We had great food, great drinks, but the rooms are a little lacking. There were 4 of us so we needed a room with 2 beds, they only have rooms with 2 double beds, which is not real comfortable to seep 2 people on, and the beds […] were not comfortable, we all woke up with sore backs and necks. There was a refrigerator in the room, which was nice, but no microwave to heat anything up. We were on the top floor, 3 doors down from the elevator, but we could hear the elevator running all night. The toilet ran, so we listened to that every night. We were on the side of Whalers Village, so Sunday morning there was a restaurant that started playing loud music at 8:00am that we could hear in our room. Our TV stopped working, they gave us a new remote, but that didn’t fix it, still couldn’t change the channel without getting up. There were no major problems, but when I pay that much for a room, I expect the room to be comfortable, and quiet, and it wasn’t. Read more

My husband and I spent a week at the hotel in an oceanfront tower room. Although the "oceanview" in our first room on the second floor was mostly concrete, we complained and got upgraded to a terrific view of the ocean and the pools. We spent a lot of time on our lanai, from which we could see migrating whales. The nonsmoking policy of the resort is taken seriously; when I was bothered by smoke while on the lanai I called to inquire whether my neighbor's smoking was permissible, and security was dispatched to educate the offender. The pool areas are extensive and comfortable, with pleasant water temperature, a fun waterslide, and different areas to suit adults and families. The open air lobby with waterfalls, koi, and flamingoes is like a tropical fantasy come true, and makes a very enjoyable place to sit when you tire of the sun. The hotel location is excellent; we never drove to an evening meal, because we had two delicious dinners at the hotel restaurant Tropica, and went next door to Whaler's Village restaurants for the rest of our meals. Our first ocean view room was not what I expected but once the issues were made known, we were moved to a much nicer room. ALL of the staff was attentive and friendly. We saw whales breaching from our balcony every morning. I will definitely stay at the Westin Maui again.

Great location, great staff, super comfortable beds and clean rooms. The hotel is getting dated and could use an upgrade - tub had rust around the drain, pool siding was showing age and woodwork had water damage. $30 a day hotel fee was a bit steep for what you get. Instead of sincerely apologizing and offering anything at all to rectify the situation he just said "your preferred bed and room are never guaranteed" and "there is nothing I can do for you." Pretty much the worst hotel ever. Rude, disinterested staff who all seem to take pleasure in telling you "no". Filthy, dilapidated, noisy, moldy rooms with no closets in the "beach" tower -- slightly less filthy, dilapidated, noisy, moldy rooms (with closets) in the "ocean" tower. Ocean Deluxe View is overlooking a service alley for the hotel and Whaler's Village (noisy early in the morning with deliveries and forklifts backing up), with only a partial veiw of the ocean. This makes it undesirable to leave the slider open for that fabulous maui evening breeze. Not much a spot to relax on the balcony.

The hotel also collects a mandatory 25 dollars a day for resort fees. They claim it covers wifi, parking, and bottle water service in the room. We didn't get our water half the time we were there and the parking lot is really hard to park in becuase the spaces are really small. We rented a mustang and we often didn't fit. Overall, not the best. The pools are cool but they allow non-guests to buy passes to the pools so it gets crowded. The location of this hotel is great. The beach is nice and the rooms are adequate. Our lack of recommendation had to do with the staff. They seemed understaffed and uninterested at every interaction. The card reader on our room literally went out every day and we would have to go wait in line for over 30 minutes to have new keys made. There was only […] one person at the desk almost every time. People would come from behind the wall and see the line of people and then go back behind the wall without helping. At the restaurant, we literally had to get up and go ask the wait staff if we could get a drink on more than one occasion both for breakfast and late afternoons. They would hover around the TV talking to each other and not taking care of tables. They really did not seem interested in serving us and we are really friendly nice people. My biggest surprise came when I tried to get a beach chair and umbrella and was told it costs more than 40 dollars to rent them, hotel guest or not! The price included 2 beach chairs for the whole day. No arguments about it being after 2pm or me being alone and not needing two chairs were good enough for a discount. I was also very disappointed with the hotel restaurant and room service. Room service, despite already quite high prices and an automatic gratuity charge, added $5 for delivery. The restaurant seemed small for such a big resort and hotel guests often found themselves waiting for tables. The Westin let me down a little bit. The grounds are beautiful but the room just wasn't as clean as it should have been, especially being the Westin and it supposed to be a somewhat "upscale" hotel. First the OK. The in-room TV and Wi-Fi was OK. The valet parking was good. Other than those two things, our stay was extremely dissappointing. The room reminded us of "early Motel Six." It was small with very little storage space, the bathroom was tiny (we recently went on a cruise and had a Jr. Suite whose bathroom was at least five times as large […] as the Westin bathroom). Room cleaning was at best spotty. We could never be sure that when we returned from a day's activities that our room would be clean. The secret was to tell the front desk when we left that we would like our room cleaned right away. We were supposed to receive a sparkling bottle of wine or cider. We called the room central on our phone and asked for a bottle of sparkling cider. We waited and waited and finally called and this time got room service. They said they never received the order. We paid extra for an ocean view. If you call a 20 deg. wide view of the ocean and overlooking the roof of an adjoining building worth a couple of hundred dollars more? We don't think so. Oh, yes. A family with at least three small children moved in next door. But since we were leaving in two days we didn't think that it would be worth changing our room. Oh yes, when checking in we were told that the resort fee included parking. They didn't say that parking meant self parking and not valet parking. NEVER AGAIN. We would not stay at this hotel again. We had a great time. Staff was great and so nice. Only issue we had was the bed gave us both incredible back aches- too soft. Be careful when booking on Expedia because the site doesn't guarantee your bed size, it's only a request so we slept in a double for two days until our king bed was ready.

This hotel has great amenities at the same time it is literally just a few steps from the beach. The location is near everything! Good restaurants, shopping, activities, etc. The were only two thing, I would say that I was not happy with. One, access to the pool. Everyone that was not staying at the hotel could easily walk into the pool area and lounge […] around there and use the pools. I think is not fair nor safe. I did pay my share of hotel resort fees. If that was the case, I could of stayed at a cheaper place and just walked there and use their amenities for free. Second, I am a starwood member and elite expedia member. I asked for a late check out, which they said was not available for the room I was staying. Once, I said, I would pay, she offer me another room. I decided not too, because I only need it for another 2-3 hour since my flight was leaving late. Other than this minor things, I still am giving them a very generous 5 stars. After reading all of the negative reviews (lighten up people), we were pleasantly surprised with the Westin! We were greeted with seashell Lei's, and GRACE at the front desk was GREAT! She gave us an ocean view room which also overlooked the pool. Our room was cleaned daily & the fridge worked great. {Go to the store for breakfast/lunch items, and beverages, […] paper plates/bowls, plastic utensils. Also the food court in Whaler's Village is a great option} We received 2 bottles of water daily, sometimes 3; and coffee/creamer/coffee cups. {We used the coffee pot to heat up water for instant oatmeal too.} We had 2 laptops and 1 kindle fire all accessing the wireless internet at the same time with no problems. All of this, as well as pool towels, fitness facility use and on site parking {yes - the spots are tiny} is included in the $25/day resort fee. We also received gifts from the Westin - a box of macadamia nut/chocolates and a thermal tote that came in very handy! The pool - which was the main reason we chose the Westin - was fabulous. We were in it every day - and loved the easy access to the beach and ocean. Our daughters (9 and 6) had a blast swimming every day in both; going back and forth muliple times. The Westin restaurant - Tropica - was FANTASTIC. Expensive, but fantastic beach front dining. Also recommend Hula Grill and Maui Fish & Pasta in Whaler's Village. Also try the sunrise at Mt.
