"Not Fairmout standards we expected"
This hotel is in need of a serious update. It must be decades since the bathroom were done, with the industry style toilet you would find in grade schools. The outlet in the bathroom didn't work.The heat did not work in our room and one of the coldest night of the year. I expected alot more from a 4 diamond hotel. Instead I got dirty sheets, a dirty tub and a bathroom vent that had obviously never been cleaned. "Our regular hotel ion San Jose"
We used to stay at the Crowne Plaza (which is now a Hyatt) in San Jose; now this will be our "regular" hotel in SJC. Location is a major attraction, right in the centre of SJ's restaurant, museum and entertainment district, 10 min from the airport and 5 min from the train station; for the holiday season the "Christmas in the Park" market is directly […] across the street. You don't need a car, which is fortunate as parking is pricey, and traffic into and around the hotel can be dicey. The room was very nice with a spectacular bath and panoramic view. One minor shortcoming: we are radio listeners and there was no radio in the room; we went for internet radio on our computer and found that there is a $13.95 daily internet fee if you're not a "Presidents Club" (frequent guest) member. "Heater did not work, it was 41 degrees that night"
Pretty disappointing for a fairmont. Upon check in, there was one agent in the presidents club line and one other on the phone. We are members of the presidents club so waited there for almost 10 min. Only 1 person in front of us. She was nice and cordial and got us a key quickly, but with the wait, total of 15min to check in. Room was nice and large […] enough with a good view. Checked in at 2, so not that cold yet, but turned on the heat anyways. Went out and got back at 6. Noticed the room was still chilly so turned up the heat to 75 while we gave the kids a bath. 9 month old went down and we stayed in bed. By 10pm we were now sure the heat was not working. Turned it up to 90 and was still blowing cold air. Could not change rooms, due to the hassle of waking a baby and packing everyone else up. So just turned the heat off, it was warmer. But it still hit 41 that night and the windows were not airtight. Next day upon check out, called front desk, no answer, called bell hop, no answer. Finally got a hold of guest services and they finally sent someone up and called for our car. Again, just a very disappointing experience from a Fairmont hotel. Went to San Jose for Christmas. The location was absolutely PERFECT! Right across the street was the biggest Christmas display in San Jose. The decoration of the chocolate Grinch was awesome. However, the rest of the displays were a little old and tired looking. The staff was exactly what you'd expect at the Fairmont--top notch. Room service was prompt […] and overpriced as usual, but the food was good. Be aware that if you even TOUCH the in-room snacks (that are both on the counter next to the TV and in the refrigerator) you will be charged. I did not like this as I was travelling with a teenager and did not want to leave the bottle of wine on the counter out when I left her in the room, but if I touched it, I was charged. We had a double/double room in the main building which was very spacious and quiet. It overlooked the mountain side which was nice and also the Knight-Ridder building, which I appreciated since I worked for them for 25 years. Nice walk in closet, a vanity for grooming and both a bathtub and a shower. The bed was nice, but not as nice as a sleep number bed would have been, and it could have used a nicer comforter that was a little thicker. There were a few problems with upkeep--there were a few tears in the wallpaper, the bathtub controls were not securely on the wall--you could see the hole in the wall, and the bathroom vanity was dirty near the tissue holder. I had visited the area to attend a concert in Cupertino. Since I was taking a bus up from Glendale, Ca. I thought I'd stay over an extra day. So I visited nearby San Jose. The Fairmont Hotel is beautiful. Thank goodness I came at a time when there was the "Christmas In The Park" holiday displays right across the street. "Disappointing stay for the reputation of the hotel"
The room was tiny and when did they start putting double beds back into luxury hotel rooms. Did they do away with queens? My son had one double bed and my wife and I shared the other. Our mattress was terrible. Besides being small, it had no firmness to it at all. During the night, we'd roll to the middle where it sunk. That would be fine and all if […] our teenage son wasn't in the double next to us. No lie, the tub in the bathroom had tiny ants all over it...and we took no food into the room. It freaked my wife out. The exercise room was decent. The dry heat sauna was great but the steam room stunk of mildew. I thought it was a health risk so I immediately stepped out. The valet car parking was slow. They had no sense of urgency. I explained at departure was that I was on my way to catch a flight. After five minutes, I went back to the counter and asked why the delay at 7 am? As I was asking, I saw my eventual driver go flying out of the break room. We were given a free upgrade to a view room in the South Tower, the newer section of the hotel. The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom was a large, attractive marble bath with separate bathtub and shower. Location was great for seeing the Christmas Fair across the street and walking to the neighboring ice rink, art museum, Tech Museum, […] cathedral, and a few blocks away, San Pedro Square for a wide variety of dining options.
