Unfortunately it was very poor. AC out in our room...never was cooler than 80 degrees in our room. Had to complain at front desk until a fan was offered...they forgot to mention to us they offered a $100 food credit and a complimentary bottle of wine for our inconvenience. We were very much looking forward to our stay but couldn't have been more disappointed!

"Disappointed"
Hotel is undergoing renovation. Hotels.com should alert you about these situations. The air conditioning didn't work in the room which was 80 degrees when I walked in at 10 pm. No lobby. It's a mess and I was told work will continue through The end of the year

"fabulous stay while hotel under renovation!"
Under the circumstance (a major renovation and air conditioning out during our stay) - we had a fabulous time. The staff more than made up for the slight inconveniences! You were so generous in every way - we're actually going to try to come again soon - regardless of minor inconveniences. We live in Davis and have stayed at the hotel many times. We always love it - thank you!

"Construction NOT disclosed."
This was a Fairmont property and far below the service and communications I expected. There was construction going on which was inconvenient because the lobby was temporarily relocated, but the noise started bright and early and they thought that by leaving an apology letter on the desk that it would be ok? We were charged full rack rate and then we found out that two of the floors were already remodeled and we're going g for the same rate. We were never told that there was construction probably because they correctly figured we wouldn't have stayed there. This should always be disclosed and if anything an "inconvenience" rate should be given. Disappointed Fairmont President Club member!!!!

It was great, we were just surprised that there was a $30 a day charge to park car. Also they are currently in the process of remodeling the front desk area. That was not stated in the hotel information. The hotel was still great and a lot of fun.

"Recent 5 night stay at the Claremont Hotel"
My husband and I stayed for five nights at the beautiful & historical Claremont and that alone, was a treat! The rooms were somewhat outdated and needed some fix-up,( i.e.: broken shutter, chipped paint, old bathtub, too hot of water that couldn't be adjusted), but were clean & comfortable. The view, and surrounding neighborhood was lovely, walkable to nearby stores/restaurants. They are known for their tennis & swim club, and spa which is a private club to any paying local resident-if you don't play tennis or swim laps a lot-you get charged a usage fee that you don't use. We did not use the facilities once, but the relaxing surroundings, porches and restaurants make up for it. Very nice! The staff all around is lovely and very friendly. Maid service was excellent! Our only complaint was the taxi service. We requested a taxi to the ferry for SF and were put into a limo service that's contracted by the hotel and it was $59 to go a few miles. They claimed you couldn't get a taxi, not true! VERY high! We called the taxi service ourselves when we left for the airport and it was only $42 several miles. All in all-we had a lovely stay, just remember if you don't have a rental (overnight parking is very expensive!) to call your own taxi or you'll automatically get the limo service. The hotel front desk graciously handled our complaint and took care of the miscommunication with the limo service.

"Classic, Picturesque Hotel (needs new elevators)"
Classic, old school hotel with picturesque outdoor pool and hot tub. Wait staff is first-rate, but of the elevators (only three in a very expansive hotel), one was permanently disabled, the other two iffy over a three-day stay. The elevators malfunctioned then were shut down repeatedly. Classic setting close to UC-Berkeley and just 20 min. from SF if no traffic

"Everything I needed"
Stayed here overnight on the way home from a campus tour trip with my son. I wanted a place that was convenient to the airport, had a reliable shuttle, a decent gym, a good breakfast, and a comfy bed. Check marks for all categories. For my departure time the shuttles ran every 15 mins and it was there on the hour. The breakfast restaurant had a good menu or buffet choice, and the service was friendly and prompt. The room was clean and the bed was comfy (not sure if they use the real Heavenly beds though?). I would stay there again.

"bad location. overpriced. renovations in progress."
This hotel looks grand from afar, and even walking in it looks nice on the surface. But beware the current renovations - they are polluting the air and the rooms stink like crazy. But they still put you in them and charge you full fare. The spa is removed from the property, the locker room was dirtier than the mediocre Chicago gym that I belong to, and this hotel is a HIKE from anything else you might want to go to in Berkeley. The only good views are likely from the very top and most expensive rooms or from the balcony of their overpriced restaurant. I travel a lot and like to stay in nice hotels/resorts. This one is absolutely not worth the money.

"Graduation treat"
We stayed at the Claremont so that we could attend the Berkeley Business School graduation ceremony. What a treat! Great view of the bay from a large, well-appointed room, comfortable bed, good coffee at the GrabAndGo breakfast and staff who remembered your name (Well done Nellie!). The Claremont is a grand old hotel but it still works very well.

"Beautiful place but a few put falls"
The hotel has a lot of charm and is beautiful. The window was broken in my room (last time I was there I had the same problem). I asked for it to be fixed, but they did not fix it after I was told it would be. Food is good, but really slow service.... A lot of staff chatting behind the bar as I stood there waiting to place an order.

The room was very small for the price. When we arrived the front desk was very courteous and friendly including the valet, bell service, and receptionist. I wasn't happy with $30 parking per day. When the people next door arrived it was obvious that the old poorly fitting door was no enough to keep in their secrets. We heard every word. We had to call for a robe and housekeeping was there promptly.

"A Grand Hotel With Great Facilities"
I've stayed at the Claremont at least 20 times in the past 25 years, and have seen it go from a spooky old-fashioned resort to a much nicer, more modern one. Fortunately, its charm is intact--the huge public rooms are especially impressive, with their high ceilings and attractive decor, and the bar is a hot spot with sweeping views. The Club has everything from tennis and swimming to a great gym and Pilates studio; since you'll be paying for it, you should take full advantage. The guest rooms at the Claremont are the downside: although all have been renovated over the years, they aren't luxurious by today's standards, except for the fact that many have Bay views. They can also be noisy, particularly if you're near the elevators. The other downside is that you have to pay for parking--there's nowhere else to leave your car, and it's $30 a night. But this year, the Claremont will begin a huge renovation that will bring the rooms up to the standard of the hotel, including new doors that will block out the sound from the hallways. It will also restore the lobby's original Bay View, which should be spectacular.

"Beautiful historic hotel - Abysmal Service"
The hotel is historically beautiful and the valet staff was excellent. Registration was understaffed, the furniture is worn/stained, and the Meritage restaurant service for 9am Mother's Day breakfast was abysmal in all areas to include quality of food.

I've stayed at the Claremont many times over the years and the service seems to have gone way downhill in recent years. The staff was rude, the light and the sink in my room were broken, and the pillows on the bed were old, smelly, and flat.

"A Night to Remember"
we reserved the room through Expedia late at night, and the reservation was not found immediately. Joy made sure to find it for me, put us in a great room with a view and even accommodated our dog! Demetrius was just as helpful and polite, and the whole experience was fantastic!!!

"Great, but a little less than great....."
We were getting away for or anniversary and wanted somewhere special, so we booked a room at the Claremont. The hotel is elegant and offers a nice range of amenities including a wonderful full service spa and dining options. We had dinner at the Meritage which was lovely with a full view of San Francisco city lights and Bay Bridge views. The food and service were excellent! Our room was clean, but there were maintenance issues when we arrived in our room. We called the front desk and they immediately sent a maintenance person to correct the issue. While promptness was appreciated, we were also in the middle of getting ready for dinner. Although the room was a "deluxe king with hillside views", we were disappointed that the room was more of a function business style unit with bed, desk, and TV. There wasn't a living room area to relax in. The "hillside view" overlooked the utility and parking area behind the hotel. Our sap experience was wonderful. duet massage with access to the steam room, deluge shower, whirlpool, and sauna. Overall the experience was good, but very spendy.

The staff was very helpful and the room was clean but dated, including a shortage of convenient outlets to plug our electronics into. We would never have paid this resort's high room rates but the weekend we were there was Cal Day and most all other hotels were booked solid. Definitely not worth the high rates.

I booked a room with two double beds...didn't receive it. I had to ask for towels and robes. Towels in room had stains on them. Large yellow stains. The television didn't work properly. Disappointing and so many extra charges..small coffee is $4 downstairs..and extra 25$ to use pool etc which we didn't have to time to use arriving later in the evening and departing early in the morning.

"Nice hotel needs updating"
We had to wait a little while to check in, but the front desk clerks were very pleasant. The lobby is beautiful, but the room we had only had one small window directly looking out over the roof with all of the HVAC etc. The room was mostly clean, but did have hairs in the shower, and cobwebs on the fire extinguisher. It had the smell of an old room which lingers on our clothes now that we have moved to the next hotel on our trip. The walls had pencil scribbles and chipped furniture.

"Fix up your hotel!"
I was put in a very old room that needed repairs, paint and the bathroom was accommodated poorly. The Claremont is such a landmark in the Bay Area ~ yet it was like a National Park Lodge. Gorgeous from the outside, somewhat shabby on the inside.
