"Great location and breakfast but chalenges within"
Small room and bathroom. Be prepared. The toilet in the hotel room was virtually unuseable with a design that forces your legs below the sink. We ended up using the bathroom in the lobby. Our toilet seat was broken...probably because people had to find a way to sit comfortablly in a away that overcame to poor design. When we arrived, our room was not […] available because of a broken shower. The hotel tried to move us to another (remote) location in the city which would have runied our trip as we chose this hotel because of its location. The hotel foiund another room for us after some complaining. Later that evening, a group of young girls showed up and was given a room that we were told was not available. The next day, a room that we had booked became available and remarkably the shower was an issue (some of the plumbing fixtures were installed backwards and shower curtain missing.) We did not complain for fear we would have been told there were no more options....the other hotel offered was very far aay from the historical sites. All in all, a frustrating stay. The staff tried to explain and apologize, but we could not help but feel that the prpblem with the room could have been handled before we arrived that day. To be told we were going to be shipped to another section the city was unacceptable....expecially when, after comlaining, another room quicly became vacant. This hotel is in a great location. If you can deal with the challenges, it is a good find. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great little hotel in a great location"
If you go in with reasonable expectations, and not expect an American size resort in the middle of Rome, you will not be disappointed. Little rooms, but with everything you need and a staff willing to help those of us trying to book train or attraction tickets. I would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, Clean, Great Staff"
Hotel Bolivar is great. It is around the corner - kind of hidden but walking distance to most of the main attractions in Rome. The staff is fabulous. Very friendly and will help with whatever you need. THe breakfast was not the best food I've had in Rome and the wine in the bar left A LOT to be desired but the staff made up for the rest. Its a small […] hotel. Small rooms which you can find throughout Europe. Very clean. Highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Some probs, but great location"
During our five night stay, we were happy with this hotel because the staff was, overall, quite friendly and helpful and the location is unbeatable. The breakfast buffet was very good and is served on a rooftop location with nice views. We would recommend that you insist on a room above the ground floor. As noted in other reviews of this hotel, some […] rooms on the ground floor are simply in an unacceptable condition. To their credit, the staff was responsive to our complaints when we were placed in one. The hotel would be well served to convert these rooms into an expanded public space, since the lobby is of limited dimensions and it is difficult to imagine an American guest finding such a room acceptable for the price. That said, this is, overall, a great hotel that offers many of Rome's most attractive destinations within walking distance. A lovely restaurant is situated across the courtyard from the hotel, and another that features very acceptable pasta dishes and pizza for reasonable prices is only five steps further away. Highly recommended, if you get an acceptable room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good hotel, very well-located for sight-seeing."
Nice hotel in an excellent location, only minutes from Forum, Trajan's column etc. Clean and cool and calm. Breakfast buffet excellent, and the breakfast room on 3rd floor is very pretty with an intriguing view out over the city. Chose the hotel for its very central position so can't really complain that the room was not over-large - with 3 single beds […] it was quite crowded. But very clean, and comfortable. When searching for a hotel, this one had some negative reviews that had me scared. The location looked great so I went for it. The hotel is located in an incredible location, within hours of our arrival we were able to walk to many desirable locations such as the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, piazza Navona and the Spanish steps. The staff were very […] helpful when directing us around and giving us suggestions on where to eat/visit. The rooms were small, but that was expected, they were very clean, breakfast was a great continental, some fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon, prosciutto etc. In the end, I feel this was a great little hotel, quiet (35 rooms or so), clean, affordable. I say, go for it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel, lovely staff - go stay there!"
Super little hotel, great staff and very friendly! Excellent location for getting to all the main attractions in the city. Nice and quite to sleep in and the breakfast was enough to keep us going for the day. Would absolutley recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Rome! :-)Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but dated"
Fantastic location for a sightseeing visit to Rome, with a decent spread at breakfast. Unfortunately the hotel was very dated and noisy. The staff were friendly and helpful, however the bar never seemed to be open. On check-out we felt the lack of drink pricing clarity had left us with a 20euro bill for two drinks at the bar. The hotel is rated as 4star […] by expedia, however I would say that 2-3 is more accurate. Despite the hotel sign saying 3star outside, the rome city tax is priced as 3euro pppn not the 2euro it should be for 3 star hotels. Having said that, we did enjoy our stay in rome greatly, and the location of the hotel was perfect. The old style of the hotel was not to our taste (as a young couple). "Comfort Hotel Bolivar"
This hotel was an absolute disgrace!! We had booked it over the internet (a big mistake) thinking that we were booking a quality four star hotel and instead got a totally substandard dirty hovel of a hotel. We picked up the key and were directed to the first floor next to a room with a yapping dog!! We immediately realised that this hotel was going […] to be poor. We went downstairs to complain and were then directed to another room on the same cramped floor just a few doors away. We could still hear the yapping dog, the door to the room didnt fit properly, the room was no more than the size of a shoebox, dark, dank and extremely dirty. We were so disappointed. There was no tea or coffee making facilities no fridge. The bathrooms was small and smelt of bad drains, there were a few unappealing soaps on the small old sink unit. No separate shower just a shower head that didnt work properly. Tepid water. The rooms was below standard and reminiscent of dirty budget hostel. The whole hotel felt run down and in disrepair. Totally disappointing, would not recommend this hotel at all. If you are thinking of booking this dont!! Not worth the money a complete rip-off. We paid way too much and dirty beyond belief. Very very poor!!

"Sentralt hotell i Roma"

"Great location but that was it for me"
12/12/14 Bridmoni Marbella, Spain
This hotel was centrally located to all the great sites of Rome. Its walking distance to the Vatican taking about 30 minutes. I found the room on the small side. The two most things I would complain about was the thin pillows and I see from most other reviews, most people complain about the pillows. So why they havnt improved this aspect which is a small thing, I do not understand. The second is the bar. 20 euro for two spritzers and a sparkling water is on the expensive side. I can understand why nobody uses the bar. But on the whole we enjoyed our time in Rome. In my opinion this is not a four star hotel.
"Good Stay in Rome"
12/02/14 Klute Sacramento, CA
Stayed 3 nights at the Bolivar with another couple. Rooms were a little on the small side, to be expected in this part of Rome. The beds were comfortable, the water pressure in shower was great. Room was clean and functional. The included breakfast was decent to get you started, the view from the breakfast area was fantastic. The hotel is in a very convenient location, 10 mins walk to almost all the tourist sights. It is located in an ally but the taxi can drive right up to it. There are quite a few stairs down to the Victor Emmanuel monument, but they were not too hard, you do have climb up to get to the hotel. The reception staff was quite helpful, the only complaint I have is that the hotel does not have irons in the rooms or for checkout. You will need to have their laundry service do it for you. I think they send out the laundry, I had about a weeks worth of cloths to wash and iron and they charged 35 euro, a little steep I thought, but it was convenient. They do have a small bar in the lobby of the hotel which we never saw anyone using it. All in all a very good stay in a very convenient area of my favorite tourist city.
"Great Little Hotel"
11/19/14 Debradms Liverpool, United Kingdom
Just back from a fantastic weekend in Rome and have all decided that when we go back we will use this hotel again. We were a party of 7 spread over 4 rooms and whilst some of them were quite small, they contained everything we needed for the short time we spent in them and they were kept spotless. A couple of our party had an issue with noise as they were located right next to the reception but this was not a problem for those of us on the second floor. The location of this place is excellent, we were able to walk everywhere very easily so we saw all of the major sites and there are plenty of decent restaurants nearby (recommend il Girasole on Via del Boschetto). The best thing about this hotel though is the staff, everyone we met was so friendly and helpful but special thanks to Angelo on the front desk who organised a Champagne on our first morning.
"Central location, very clean!"
The only let down is breakfast with luck of fresh fruit! Some apples and oranges but quite tired looking. Otherwise, good choice of breakfast. Lovely view from the breakfast room. The location is central, walking distance to Colloseum, Vatican, perfect! The room is good size, probably the furniture overpowering but reasonable comfortable bed. Can be noisy at night but it is trade off between central location and peaceful nights.
We stayed at the Hotel Bolivar for 4 nights, the most amazing aspect was it's location. You can easily get to Piazza Venezia, the Colosseum & Pantheon within a few minutes. We even walked back from Vatican City in around 30 minutes. The staff were great, particularly helpful in explaining to our driver that we didn't provide the wrong flight info but were stuck in international passport control for over an hour. Always willing to assist & answer any questions. We stayed in room 120, the room was a good size for the price, bed was comfy although the pillows were a bit thin & hard (personal taste, i just rather big soft pillows) and you could hear the noise from the corridor very clearly so if you're a light sleeper I would suggest ear plugs. The bathroom again was a good size & had all you needed. The shower was powerful & the bath comfortable. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the lack of in room coffee making facilities (i love coffee) My favourite room in the hotel was the breakfast room with a beautiful view that showed you just how close you were to everything as you could see the monument in piazza Venezia from there. Breakfast, included in the price was nice, standard continental with the addition of scrambled egg & bacon. The tables were regularly cleaned down & very presentable. For the price & location with only a few niggles that can most certainly be lived with this place is most certainly a must for anybody who wants to stay in the heart of Rome for a reasonable price. We would definitely stay again.
"Don't Expect To Sleep"
Bring ear plugs if you stay here. The street noise, at least on the 2nd floor, is loud throughout the night. Not to mention all hallway noise carries into the room, and for some reason, the neighbors loved slamming the door. The wifi was spotty at best. Bed was thin as were the pillows. That being said, the location can't be beat. We walked everywhere in Rome from this location and it was really very easy. The family owned restaurant across the way is top notch. Best pasta I have ever had there. The front desk was not particularly helpful or friendly. Not saying they were surly, just didn't feel particularly welcomed. It was clean, though water didn't drain well in the shower. All in all, for a four star hotel, I just wasn't impressed (nor well rested).

Stayed at hotel for weekend. The staff was very friendly, helpful with directions and recommendations for restaurants. Helped with arranging transport to airport. Clean, comfortable, well kept with amazing full breakfast included in room. We booked with Choice points, all we had to pay was the city tax of EUR6 per day per person, the norm for Europe. Would definitely stay there again.

"Short stay at Bolivar"
10/28/14 unsunghero phila
Stayed here for 3 nights with my husband and brother-in-law. Hotel was clean and in a great location. Our room, 112, was very small for a triple. It had One single bed and a Double bed, with about two feet between them. It also contained a desk about the same distance from the double bed. The bathroom door did not close properly because of a gouge in the wood around the door frame. The end table next to the bed had a large chip in it. Beds are very hard and pillows very thin. The air conditioning is turned off on Oct. 15, and the heat is not put on until Nov. 15, according to Angelo at the front desk. When we complained because it was very warm and this was not explained when we booked, he put the air conditioning on. However, you cannot set the temp in your room, it is controlled by the hotel. Not sure if other hotels are like this. TV is very small and only Italian stations. Bar very nice, but small, with a bartender who did not speak English and did double duty as the custodian, so not always there. All in all, it was a good stay considering that you are not in the room all that much, but our room is in need of a renovation. Very noisy with the window open. Also think a bit pricey for size and dated condition, especially with the added 6 Euro per person per night on top of the quoted rate.
"Central and reasonable value"
10/03/14 Jock254 Guernsey, United Kingdom
Clean and very central for all Rome has to offer. Reasonable cost with parking outside. Ticked the boxes. Obviously doesn't have the finery hence the price but it did the job. Staff are friendly enough but limited help with local info. Great base for an independent traveller. Breakfast is prob best avoided, head out instead but for dinner look no further than the restaurant immediately opposite. We were thinking don't be lazy and look further afield but very glad we didn't. Great food in a family run restaurant.
