"Bait and Switch again!!"
Horrible experience. They did not have our rooms and tried to move us to a "sister" property that was not in the center of Rome. We refused and rebooked another hotel on Hotels.com. Hotel Bolivar assured us we would not be charged as it was their mistake. The second place was great but now we are trying to get our refund back from Hotels.com for Bolivar since Bolivar charged for the rooms. I've read a few times this happens so obviously Bolivar, being centrally located, overbooks on purpose then tries to relocate you to one of their less desirable properties hoping you won't complain.

"Location!! Location!!"
This was my 4th stay at this hotel and it is just perfect for me. Close to everything that I enjoy in Rome. Walking distance from all except Vatican City, which is just a little too far for me to walk. It is located on a quiet street with a wonderful resturant just across from the hotel.

"Great location and breakfast but chalenges within"
Small room and bathroom. Be prepared. The toilet in the hotel room was virtually unuseable with a design that forces your legs below the sink. We ended up using the bathroom in the lobby. Our toilet seat was broken...probably because people had to find a way to sit comfortablly in a away that overcame to poor design. When we arrived, our room was not available because of a broken shower. The hotel tried to move us to another (remote) location in the city which would have runied our trip as we chose this hotel because of its location. The hotel foiund another room for us after some complaining. Later that evening, a group of young girls showed up and was given a room that we were told was not available. The next day, a room that we had booked became available and remarkably the shower was an issue (some of the plumbing fixtures were installed backwards and shower curtain missing.) We did not complain for fear we would have been told there were no more options....the other hotel offered was very far aay from the historical sites. All in all, a frustrating stay. The staff tried to explain and apologize, but we could not help but feel that the prpblem with the room could have been handled before we arrived that day. To be told we were going to be shipped to another section the city was unacceptable....expecially when, after comlaining, another room quicly became vacant. This hotel is in a great location. If you can deal with the challenges, it is a good find.

"Great little hotel in a great location"
If you go in with reasonable expectations, and not expect an American size resort in the middle of Rome, you will not be disappointed. Little rooms, but with everything you need and a staff willing to help those of us trying to book train or attraction tickets. I would stay here again.

"Great Location, Clean, Great Staff"
Hotel Bolivar is great. It is around the corner - kind of hidden but walking distance to most of the main attractions in Rome. The staff is fabulous. Very friendly and will help with whatever you need. THe breakfast was not the best food I've had in Rome and the wine in the bar left A LOT to be desired but the staff made up for the rest. Its a small hotel. Small rooms which you can find throughout Europe. Very clean. Highly recommended.

This is a 3* hotel with a great location. There was no help with the bags on arrival and when further pillows were requested they were handed to me in the lobby. The water to make tea at breakfast was tepid and the a/c didn't work. The shower had only one setting..scolding! Hotel needs substantial updating imo.

"Some probs, but great location"
During our five night stay, we were happy with this hotel because the staff was, overall, quite friendly and helpful and the location is unbeatable. The breakfast buffet was very good and is served on a rooftop location with nice views. We would recommend that you insist on a room above the ground floor. As noted in other reviews of this hotel, some rooms on the ground floor are simply in an unacceptable condition. To their credit, the staff was responsive to our complaints when we were placed in one. The hotel would be well served to convert these rooms into an expanded public space, since the lobby is of limited dimensions and it is difficult to imagine an American guest finding such a room acceptable for the price. That said, this is, overall, a great hotel that offers many of Rome's most attractive destinations within walking distance. A lovely restaurant is situated across the courtyard from the hotel, and another that features very acceptable pasta dishes and pizza for reasonable prices is only five steps further away. Highly recommended, if you get an acceptable room.

Nice hotel, clean, helpful & friendly staff. Good location for visiting all the main tourist attractions. The only downside was (due to staying in a room that overlooked the steps beside the hotel) the noise from people that were at the pub at the bottom of the steps or who used the steps as a shortcut

"Nice weekend in Rome"
Stayed at the Comfort Bolivar Hotel for 3 nights. As previous guests have commented the rooms are on the small side but adequate, the pillows are very thin, but after reading others comments on the pillows we bought a pack of two pillows from Asda before we went for £3, perfect, didn't even have to bring them back lol The breakfast was excellent, really nice room on the top floor. The hotel was perfectly placed for getting out and about around Rome. Will certainly book this hotel again if we return to Rome. Well recommended.

"Good hotel, very well-located for sight-seeing."
Nice hotel in an excellent location, only minutes from Forum, Trajan's column etc. Clean and cool and calm. Breakfast buffet excellent, and the breakfast room on 3rd floor is very pretty with an intriguing view out over the city. Chose the hotel for its very central position so can't really complain that the room was not over-large - with 3 single beds it was quite crowded. But very clean, and comfortable.

"Surprisingly great."
When searching for a hotel, this one had some negative reviews that had me scared. The location looked great so I went for it. The hotel is located in an incredible location, within hours of our arrival we were able to walk to many desirable locations such as the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, piazza Navona and the Spanish steps. The staff were very helpful when directing us around and giving us suggestions on where to eat/visit. The rooms were small, but that was expected, they were very clean, breakfast was a great continental, some fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon, prosciutto etc. In the end, I feel this was a great little hotel, quiet (35 rooms or so), clean, affordable. I say, go for it.

"Sentralt hotell i Roma"

"Perfect location for visiting Rome's major sites"
08/02/15 Kine K
Very nice hotel in the middle of everything! We stayed here for 6 nights and it was the perfect base to explore Romes major sites. (Colosseum, Pantheon, Palatine hills, Capitol, Vatican city etc) Everything in walking distance even for my 8 year old daughter. The staff was very friendly and helpful , and they always had the answer to all our questions. The room was always kept tidy, allthough it was a bit small for 3 people. But hey, we did not go to Rome to sit in our room! :-) Breakfast was nice, but I would have appreciated even more if they had served a little bit of fruits and vegetables also.

My daughter and I stayed here for 5 nights starting July 16; the hotel is clean, the rooms are an adequate size and kept stocked and tidy during your stay. The buffet breakfast is exceptional by American standards; if you ask the woman that looks after the breakfast room will make you a cappuccino. The view from the breakfast room is lovely and is pictured above. We were able to walk everywhere in Rome. The men at the desk were happy to call cabs, give directions etc. When I go back to Rome I will stay here!

07/30/15 Teresa M Whitestone, New York
We went to Rome during July and a heat wave with my husband and two daughters, 12 and 8. We appreciated the air conditioning and the free cold water with ice behind the bar. The hotel is hidden accessible by taxi just make sure that the taxi does not use the GPS and leave you off at the bottom of steep steps with your luggage. The hotel is accessible by care but the taxi must go up the correct . The hotel was clean and withing walking distance of almost everything (Forum, Colliseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. It is also a short taxi ride to the train station. The hotel was able to accommodate all 4 of us in a room for part of out stay. The room will be tights but that is typical of Italian hotels. The other nights we received two rooms. Since this was a Choice Hotel for us we redeemed our points so we only had to pay the tax. The breakfast is big (meat, cheese, breads, cereal, yogurt, cakes, juice, coffee, milk, eggs (we chose to stay away from) with a nice balcony view. Check in and Check out was easy.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Bolivar. The hotel is hidden in a little ally so it can be hard to find but it is within walking distance of many of Rome's main attractions (Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, etc.) making it very convenient. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room itself was clean and looked well kept but I did feel that it was too tiny to be a 4 person occupancy. There was a queen sized bed in the room as well as 2 sofa beds which took up the majority of the space. It would have been fine if all 4 of us didn't have luggage with us, but once you take into account 4 luggages that need to be put somewhere it became a bit of a pain because there was no room for all of us to open up our luggage and often we were having to leap over our luggage just to get to the washroom. I only stayed at Hotel Bolivar one night so this was not a huge deal, but If i had stayed there for a longer duration it would have been a real pain.

Had the pleasure of staying in the Comfort Hotel Bolivar with a family member in February 2014 (not 2015). The experience was so fantastic that I am returning to stay here again in 2 weeks on a second visit to the city. Apart from being situated in a fanstastic, central location the hotel couldn't have been nicer- and for such a brilliant price! Staff were exceptional- went out of their way to make us feel at home, even sending up a gratuitous bottle of champagne to our room! Just amazing! Breakfast was lovely in the bright and airy breakfast rooms with gorgeous views of the ancient city. Staff were so good at providing us with tips on where to travel and what to do/see around Rome. Absolutely dying to get back to this hotel! Counting down the days!

Will book 3 to 4 per room where many hotels within the city will not. Doesn't require a lot of points and is a good location, short cab ride to Termini station. Dining room is nice, food is ok. Elevator extra small but works. My down side was the room we had for 3 was tiny and the 3rd bed was a fold-out that had to be 50 years old, as was most of what little furnishing we had. An old large key with no way to lock the door without it. There are many homes larger than this hotel so don't expect room to roam. Also the staff is very small and seems to be over worked. If there try the restaurant at the end of the drive for great pasta. Plenty of other shops around, even a Burger King.

"Booked a quad room, but only received a triple room"
07/16/15 stan c San Jose, California
I booked a quad room, but only received a triple room. The manager said since we only had 3 persons, they gave us a triple and asked us why we needed a quad. He said they need to maximize their profits. He said if a quad comes up, they could move us or move us to a quad room in a different hotel within the chain further away. I decided to stay as the location was better. I took a shower on Friday and it was spraying water from one of the plumbing joints up to the ceiling. I mentioned this to the manager and he said there was nothing he could do until Monday. The next night my daughter took a shower and the shower head and pipe came apart during her shower and it collapsed on her. The manager said not to use it and it would be fixed in the morning. We were not able to take showers that night. I complained and they were finally able to moved us into a quad room in the morning after staying there 2 nights of our 4 night stay as another family was leaving.

This Hotel is behind a restaurant in a little courtyard just off a main road very close to the city centre. This hotel, part of the Choice Hotels chain, is a hidden gem centrally located near all the desired sites of ancient Rome. Within a 10-minute walk are the Colosseum, the Forum, Palatine Hill, Trajan's Column, and the Victor Emmanuel Monument. Only a few minutes further and you can walk to the famous Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. Vatican City is only 20 minutes away by Metro, with a station located across from the Colosseum. Small shops, pizzerias, and fine dining restaurants are also within a few minutes walking distance. The hotel staff are pleasant, helpful answering questions, and courteous. Our room was clean, well maintained, and possessed everything we needed in a hotel room. A free and well-stocked buffet breakfast is available on the upper floor where there is also an amazing view. If we ever return to Rome, we will certainly strive to stay at this elegant hotel again.
