"Bait and Switch again!!"
Horrible experience. They did not have our rooms and tried to move us to a "sister" property that was not in the center of Rome. We refused and rebooked another hotel on Hotels.com. Hotel Bolivar assured us we would not be charged as it was their mistake. The second place was great but now we are trying to get our refund back from Hotels.com for Bolivar since Bolivar charged for the rooms. I've read a few times this happens so obviously Bolivar, being centrally located, overbooks on purpose then tries to relocate you to one of their less desirable properties hoping you won't complain.

Horrible experience!!! Arrived at hotel 7pm after an 8 hr drive to find out that they did not have our 4 rooms bc A/C was broken. They wanted to move us to another property that was not near center of Rome. We refused and rebooked on Hotels.com at another hotel which was great but this hotel still charged Hotels.com for our rooms and now Hotels.com isn't giving us a refund even though we rebooked on Hotels.com for another hotel on same days!!

"Location!! Location!!"
This was my 4th stay at this hotel and it is just perfect for me. Close to everything that I enjoy in Rome. Walking distance from all except Vatican City, which is just a little too far for me to walk. It is located on a quiet street with a wonderful resturant just across from the hotel.

"Great location and breakfast but chalenges within"
Small room and bathroom. Be prepared. The toilet in the hotel room was virtually unuseable with a design that forces your legs below the sink. We ended up using the bathroom in the lobby. Our toilet seat was broken...probably because people had to find a way to sit comfortablly in a away that overcame to poor design. When we arrived, our room was not available because of a broken shower. The hotel tried to move us to another (remote) location in the city which would have runied our trip as we chose this hotel because of its location. The hotel foiund another room for us after some complaining. Later that evening, a group of young girls showed up and was given a room that we were told was not available. The next day, a room that we had booked became available and remarkably the shower was an issue (some of the plumbing fixtures were installed backwards and shower curtain missing.) We did not complain for fear we would have been told there were no more options....the other hotel offered was very far aay from the historical sites. All in all, a frustrating stay. The staff tried to explain and apologize, but we could not help but feel that the prpblem with the room could have been handled before we arrived that day. To be told we were going to be shipped to another section the city was unacceptable....expecially when, after comlaining, another room quicly became vacant. This hotel is in a great location. If you can deal with the challenges, it is a good find.

"Great little hotel in a great location"
If you go in with reasonable expectations, and not expect an American size resort in the middle of Rome, you will not be disappointed. Little rooms, but with everything you need and a staff willing to help those of us trying to book train or attraction tickets. I would stay here again.

"Great Location, Clean, Great Staff"
Hotel Bolivar is great. It is around the corner - kind of hidden but walking distance to most of the main attractions in Rome. The staff is fabulous. Very friendly and will help with whatever you need. THe breakfast was not the best food I've had in Rome and the wine in the bar left A LOT to be desired but the staff made up for the rest. Its a small hotel. Small rooms which you can find throughout Europe. Very clean. Highly recommended.

This is a 3* hotel with a great location. There was no help with the bags on arrival and when further pillows were requested they were handed to me in the lobby. The water to make tea at breakfast was tepid and the a/c didn't work. The shower had only one setting..scolding! Hotel needs substantial updating imo.

"Too many stars"
This is more like a 3 star hotel. For example, room service was not available and room inclusions were minimal. The bed was hard and bedspread dirty, and there were plumbing problems in the bathroom. Staff were generally abrupt and rude, with a couple of exceptions.

"Too many stars"
This is more like a 3 star hotel. For example, it does not offer room service, as indicated on the website. I was sent out into the night to find food after a long flight. The bed was hard and there were plumbing problems in the bathroom. When I arrived, there was a previous guest's blood on my bedspread. Upon informing staff in the morning, there was no apology forthcoming and I was shooed away. Staff were generally quite rude and abrupt, except for one man at the front desk and the cleaner. The men at the front desk did answer questions, but their manner often gave the impression that they considered me to be a stupid nuisance. Although, the attendant was very helpful when I checked out, which I greatly appreciated.

"This is a quaint boutique hotel."
The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to most popular attractions in central Rome. It is difficult to find so I recommend taking a taxi from the Termini or airport, much easier to handle luggage and finding your way than fighting with the bus traffic. The one thing I missed having was coffee in the room. There is a complimentary breakfast on the third floor, which was o.k. but not great. The front desk staff were very helpful and all-and-all I would stay here again.

"Booked for convenience to work location"
Nice hotel, clean, helpful & friendly staff. Good location for visiting all the main tourist attractions. The only downside was (due to staying in a room that overlooked the steps beside the hotel) the noise from people that were at the pub at the bottom of the steps or who used the steps as a shortcut

"Nice weekend in Rome"
Stayed at the Comfort Bolivar Hotel for 3 nights. As previous guests have commented the rooms are on the small side but adequate, the pillows are very thin, but after reading others comments on the pillows we bought a pack of two pillows from Asda before we went for £3, perfect, didn't even have to bring them back lol The breakfast was excellent, really nice room on the top floor. The hotel was perfectly placed for getting out and about around Rome. Will certainly book this hotel again if we return to Rome. Well recommended.

"Good hotel, very well-located for sight-seeing."
Nice hotel in an excellent location, only minutes from Forum, Trajan's column etc. Clean and cool and calm. Breakfast buffet excellent, and the breakfast room on 3rd floor is very pretty with an intriguing view out over the city. Chose the hotel for its very central position so can't really complain that the room was not over-large - with 3 single beds it was quite crowded. But very clean, and comfortable.

"Surprisingly great."
When searching for a hotel, this one had some negative reviews that had me scared. The location looked great so I went for it. The hotel is located in an incredible location, within hours of our arrival we were able to walk to many desirable locations such as the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, piazza Navona and the Spanish steps. The staff were very helpful when directing us around and giving us suggestions on where to eat/visit. The rooms were small, but that was expected, they were very clean, breakfast was a great continental, some fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon, prosciutto etc. In the end, I feel this was a great little hotel, quiet (35 rooms or so), clean, affordable. I say, go for it.

"Sentralt hotell i Roma"

"Not much has changed in 7 years -- still just OK"
02/02/16 Dave's_reviews Philadelphia, PA
I last stayed at this hotel 7 years ago -- and reviewed it on TripAdvisor. Not much has changed. It's still a good deal for folks who want to use their Choice Privileges points: 10,000/night. It might not be such a good deal paying their published rates. There are 2 good things about the hotel: location and the free breakfast. For tourists, the location is good. It's pretty much smack in the middle of everything there is to see in Rome. Most of it is within walking distance, but some things (like the Vatican) are better by bus. There is great bus service within a 2 minute walk of the hotel, but it can be a bit confusing. If you put in your destination on google maps and hit the transit button, you can figure out how to get anywhere by public transit in Rome. The actual "street" the hotel is on is more like an alleyway, but that's probably good because it keeps noise down. Breakfast remains a highlight at the hotel. For Italy, the breakfast is quite decent: cold cuts, cheese, breads, cakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and "hot dogs." The breakfast staff can make you a cappuccino (a good idea because the regular coffee wasn't so great). Rooms are small and bit dated. Three star comfort at best. While this is a member of the Choice Hotels chain, it's nothing like a USA Choice hotel. More like a somewhat-past-its-prime traditional boutique hotel. As I said, a good deal on points, but I'd want a really low rate (below 100 euro) if I were going to pay cash for my room. Otherwise, I'd look for hotels with good locations that are more highly rated.

I had booked to stay here but when we arrived on the Friday evening there had been a problem so transferred to there sister hotel. The service we received from the reception guy was brilliant , he reassured us that everything would be ok at the alternative hotel and it was. Previously I had contacted the hotel to arrange transfer from the airport which we were most impressed with. Fabio our driver was friendly informative and helpful and did not complain once when our 40 min trip turned into much Longer! Thank you once again we still had a brilliant weekend.

A good hotel with a perfect but quiet location. We really liked that everything was within walking distance. The staff was nice and very helpful and the airport transportation worked perfectly. For us the room was a good sized. Breakfast was ok, but quite simple. Also the bed was a bit tough. All in all really nice hotel if you prefer to explore the city by foot.

"location is perfect just where you want to be for visiting Rome"
11/30/15 YagilArmoni Haifa, Israel
The hotel location is perfect just where you want to be for visiting Rome. Although the room size is little bit small it is enough in-case all you want is coming back at night to good shower and good sleep before the next day. The hotel staff is very kind & helpful; Breakfast is very good and in lovely place on the third floor. The only thing that is missing which I suggest the management to think about it is to have electric kettle and glass for Tea or coffee in the room, in our days it is very simple desire which make night stay even better.

"hidden away, but central location"
11/14/15 wbrit montreal canada
Stayed at this hotel in Sept. for 4 days. It was tucked away, on a tiny little cul-de-sac, and the building was very old. We were checked in by a very brusque hotel clerk, who brushed past us as we entered, as if we didn't exist. We were given an actual old-fashioned key to our room (as opposed to other people who had a card!), and we travelled on a very narrow elevator to the 3rd floor. There were only two rooms at this level, and they were right next to the rooftop restaurant. The room itself was very pokey, with a bedspread that must've been about 30 years old, and the bed was very hard, with only one pillow each...the only upside was an updated narrow bathroom with a weird shower curtain that draped around the bath, and an outdoor patio. Nice for drinks before dinner, but if you wanted, there was a bar in the hotel lobby. There was an air conditioner in the room, but it was not available...all air conditioning was turned off, too cold for the owner, we were told...we would've liked it to have been on, not much cool air! Breakfast was very pleasant..there were scrambled eggs, bacon, yoghurt, cakes, brioches, and cheeses and cold cuts, and some fruits.. Different types of coffees were offered, and the view was spectacular. The hotel was very central in Rome, and we were able to walk to the Coliseum, and the Vatican, but there were plenty of buses to get you there if necessary. There was even a small adjacent restaurant in the courtyard near the hotel, if you didn't wish to go far at night. Overall, an ok stay, but I am sure there are far better hotels nearby.
