"Worst services, dated room and dirty bathrooms"
I had the worst service at the chech-in, the receptionist is so rude!!! I made a mistake on my reservation but she looked at me like I lied on purpose!!! The room is dated and not clean enough. The sink is clogged. The maid didn't fill the shampoo stuff. We asked for two blankets and we got them after AN HOUR!!!! The waitresses at the restaurants never […] had a smily face and didn't want to answer us at all. This resort is not even better than the two star B&B I stayed before. KEEP AWAY FROM IT!!! "Not near airport but well worth the trip."
Very nice resort on the other side of the island from the airport but well worth the trip even if you are leaving the next day. We had two days at the end of a sailing vacation and we thought to stay near the airport. What a mistake. After a bad experience with an airport hotel we booked Sugar Bay. It was great from the friendly staff to the great beds […] and clean rooms. We had an ocean view room and we didn't get the meal plan. The dining options could have been better but all in all I'd stay there again! It is a bit out of the way but you will find a nice smile greeting you and a great well-kept resort! The room size was comparable to US hotels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall a nice resort but disappointing"
We spent 11 days at the all-inclusive Sugar Bay Resort and Spa. We were very disappointed in the overall run-down condition and the food at the resort. The last time we stayed at the resort, a number of years ago, it was well run and managed by Wyndham Resorts and it was a four/five star resort then. Now the resort facilities are somewhat run down and […] not kept up to the standards of a 4 or 5. The food menus are lacking excitement and bland, almost cafeteria-like, especially with the menus not changing from day to day. We got bored with the meals after a few days and did go out for some variety in food. The rooms are out-dated, well worn, and are definitely in the need for remodeling/updating/painting etc.. The resort still has the potential of being a first-class destination on St. Thomas, but until the owners/management step-up and correct a number of overt problems/issues, it will probably continue to only draw first-time visitors, college break kids, and no repeat customers. We would not consider staying there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel, great staff, good beach side resort"
I found the accommodations were very good and was met with helpful friendly staff. The only problem was that a week was not long enough and I was more away from the resort exploring the islands and didn't get to take advantage of many of its activities. I couldn't ask for a better beach area along with the other resort activities in close proximity. […] The whole experience was great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very nice resort next to the beach"
This resort has very good and comfortable facility. The room is clean and pretty big, with refrigerator and lockbox, coffee maker, but no microwave or kitchen stuff. HDTV has good channels for kids. Very beautiful environment with swimming pool, hot tub and beach facility. They have several cats in the resort which becomes an attractive stop-by for […] everyone. The resort is to the northeastern side of the St. Thomas island which is close to the ferry service. We find good restaurants in the Havensight Mall area which is on the other side of the island, less than 30 minutes drive. After we get there, the staff tell us that the price to add all-inclusive is $109 /per adult/per day which is in addition to the hotel-only price. So recommendation is to check the online all-inclusive price if you would like to have that option. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
this resort is in a great location located in a beautiful cove. the facility was clean however a little outdated in some areas. The food was fantastic but plan on eating early as the facilities are closed up by ten pm in the main restaurant and as for the pool area all the small restaurants are closed by 5 :(. not much to do in the way of night life […] in any regard. "Awesome resort... but service needs imporovement"
Sugar Bay is a very nice resort. The rooms were clean and decent, views are great, pool area and poolside bar are fun, beach is amazing with clear calm water. My only complaint is the service... the staff is rude and seems annoyed with the guests. There are a few staff members who are nice and helpful but for the most part expect poor service. I have […] yet to find a place in STT with great staff and service so overall I would still recommend Sugar Bay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not what I expected"
The overall resort is decent, it is NOT the MARRIOTT, you get what you pay for. But overall decent. The ROOMS need to be renovated and they need help with their cleaning staff. We found a pair of underwear from someone else in our room. No comforter or blanket just sheets. It took 2 days to actually get a blanket. The bed and pillows are comfortable […] and it has a coffeemaker which ours was kind of broken and heard from other guests that theirs were broken too. The cleaning staff only 1 time remembered to leave shampoo, soaps. We had clean towels though. Our safe didn't work the entire stay even though we talked to several staff members. Our patio door would not close or lock, again no help. We personally didn't like the food there and are glad we didn't do the all-inclusive, but others didn't mind it, and others hated it, so it depended on who you talked to. We spent our time at the Marriott and no one said a darn thing. Had a great time there, so we saved our money by staying at the Sugarbay and heading over each day to the Marriott, it was great! So, want to save money and have a great time, stay here and go to the Marriott each day. Want a great overall experience spend the money at the Marriott, trust us, go the beach at Sandbar and it is just perfect and FREE! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not up to expectations"
The pool and beach area are very nice and we enjoyed it a lot. The rooms and rest of the hotel are falling apart. Our AC went out and got the entire room wet. We had no towels one evening because the laundry had failed. We had no comfortors or towels one night and had to wait 3 hours and 3 calls for anyone to bring them. There is only 1 working ice […] machine in the entire place and way down on the end of the place. Carpet was old and worn. Beds were old and worn. "Once luxury hotel going downhill."
We were only here less than a day (thankfully) so we didn't choose the all inclusive option. But here's a summary of our time... Strawberry daiquiri by the pool ($10): served in small plastic cup with no detectable alcohol or real strawberries. Hot tub: not even warm Poolside restaurant: closed (on a Friday during spring break?!) Dinner buffet ($36): […] nothing special at barely warm temp Don't lose your towel card or room card: $30 & $20 to replace (Really?!) 2 FULL size beds for family of 4: no way 2 people fit comfortably in one of these beds! Not super clean rooms: lotion or goo on the toilet seat: shirt size sticker on the wall Overall this felt like what was once a nice resort but is now preying on middle class Americans who are on the trip of a lifetime (thanks to excessive prices) who don't know they should expect WAY more for their money. "Watch out for those stairs!"
We arrived fairly late in the evening, but had no trouble checking in. Our room was just as expected from seeing photos online. My husband had to call down one night and ask for a blanket since he was cold due to a sunburn and whoever answered the phone at the desk teased him a little about wanting a "blankie" which I thought was funny. It wasn't mean […] spirited, just lighthearted. There were limited choices on the dining menu, and the breakfast buffet was standard, but good. The bars were open at weird times, and it would have been nice to not have to trek down those darned stairs or have to wait on a shuttle to get to the pool/beach/bar area. The Manor House bar was a bit stuffy for my taste, and it would have been nice to have something more laid back than the Ocean Club up top. Over all my husband and I enjoyed ourselves and we hope to visit again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My husband and I were there for our 25th anniversary. The food was outstanding, we did the all-inclusive. We loved everything about it. "Spring Break Week Craziness"
Hotel was overall a great place - spacious, friendly staff, lots to do. "Luxurious, Beautiful, & Relaxing"
Really nice resort. The pool area was amazing, the room was very well appointed with nice fixtures & a huge king bed on the top floor. The beach was spectacular even nicer waters then at Magen's bay a little rocky here & there but swimming & snorkeling were fantastic. The food was pretty good we had the burgers & mahi mahi wrap which was delicious. […] Only stayed for a couple nights but the staff was very helpful the girl at the front desk practically let me pick our room. The only two disappointments were it seemed all the ice machines were broken & vending machines were empty. Also the bathtub in the room could have been re-caulked as there were a few noticeable cracks between the outside of the tub and bathroom floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"This is 3.5 star hotel."
The hotel property is gorgeous. Pool is beautiful along with the grounds. The views are unreal. Nice tennis courts and basketball court. Plenty of activities and theme nights at hotel. Poolside bingo, ping pong and pool. Rooms are a bit dated but they are renovating the rooms. Cleaning crew were very friendly and do a great job. Check in was ok. I checked […] in on a Sunday. I think I just caught a young ding doing, Nothing crazy but not to informative. Check out staff was very nice. Hotel is a $5 cab ride and 5minutes to Red Hook section of town. Lots of places to eat and you can catch the ferry to St John for $15 round trip in Red Hook. I felt very safe at the hotel and red hook area. This is very important for me when I travel. The people were friendly both at the hotel and red hook. Down side: could not find an ice machine that worked. Towels were a 3.5 rated along with the comfort of bed and linens. Food: Breakfast Buffett was ok. Lunch Buffett is VERY Good. Added value its next to pool and beach. Dinner: Not so good. I like to relax and enjoy dinner. Just not organized and food was ok. We ate out 2 of the 5 nights. We paid for all inclusiveness. I think if they had better management that stayed on top of the staff and paid attention to detail this could be a 4 star hotel. Its so close yet so far away from a 4 star hotel. I recommend this hotel and hope everyone who goes enjoys it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Waaaaaay Better than I expected!!!"
I was concerned about this stay bc reviews were not so great for this property. We loved our stay here. The staff was extremely friendly from Norris who took us on a fantastic tour of the property as he brought us to our room first day to Rosa, who comes to the hotel to share about shopping. The room was clean, the property was a tiny bit old but has […] been renovated and it is beautiful. Our view from the balcony of our room was gorgeous. We visited other properties and this beats them all by far. The only bad thing to say is stay away from the food and restaurants-average to bad taste, mediocre service and very expensive! The hotel is a hop, skip and a jump from Red Hook where you can catch a ferry to St John's, shop and best of all eat. "No hot water,"
We were stuck in St. Thomas because of plane issues and this was the only place we could find a room. We paid a very high rate(expected because it was last minute) but learned this is usually an all inclusive and the rate we were paying was not, so everything was extra. The real issue however is when we got up very early for our resumed flight there […] was no hot water. An ice cold shower at 4:45am is not what we had in mind. We mentioned it to the front desk but there was no offer to adjust the rate or give us any credit. "STAFF, SERVICES AND ACCOMODATIONS STINK, need new"
2 Rooms, 8 days! Below is a brief summary of a multitude of negative comments and experiences we received during our stay there—Bad, Bad, Bad---Location was nice but staff, accommodations, services and especially the staffs cooperation and desire to please guests, on their once in a lifetime trip, was worse than poor, it was non-existent! The staff […] did not care to service the guests. We wasted half our time moving or taking care of ourselves instead of enjoying what we paid for and was promised and expected. 1. ARRIVAL—Rooms were dirty with hairs in bed. No A/C 2. Had to eventually move 4 times, Rooms with No A/C, or very little A/C, 3. In the 3rd room the toilet had a severe leak. In the 4th room the A/C barely worked. 4. No bath towels in rooms, had to use hair dryer to dry children. We made repeated calls with statements to go to pool to get some. None at pool! Finally some arrived hours later, too late! 5. Pool towels ran out daily, 2/22 they had no towels to begin with! 6. Security came to our room one night to warn us about noise but it was the room next door—they got the wrong room, too late everyone was up at that point. 7. Daily schedule advertised kids’ movie show at 7 PM but never had one. 8. They said then we would get PPV (Pay per View) free but PPV didn’t work! 9. We had to call New York to get cable working because staff was clueless. PPV never worked and they charged for it. 10. The shuttle service was not good Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We were disappointed to find that the beach and swimming pools were so far from the resort. A shuttle was provided to get to the beach however it was not easy to board the shuttle. "Not recommended at all!!"
We had a family of four, we purchased the all inclusive package. Turns out they only have 1 place to eat where you are seated and served. Baci has 50 seats, the hotel has 300 rooms so we were forced to eat at the buffet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was all buffet food. The main staples of the dinner service were mac and cheese, rice and beans and pasta. […] Not at all what I was expecting having stayed at other all inclusive resorts. Staff is nice when you check in, but if you need anything during your stay, don't count on your needs being met. I had to call every night to have towels delivered so we could shower, seems housekeeping kept forgetting to leave clean towels. Regarding activities, they put out a daily paper with all the activities for the day, similar to a cruise ship, however, 80% of the activities never happened. They advertised movies each night, but they were not where they said they were going to be and then they directed us to a room under construction, needless to say the 4 nights we were there no movie. My daughtered a glass of milk, response from server we don't have any milk. I ordered a diet coke, response we are out of diet coke. Not worth the money, the beach was great and the pool was nice, but if you are looking for a resort, this is not the place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The exterior of hotel was rough around the edges. Walkways and elevators were in disrepair. The rooms however were nicer and the bathrooms were also. "Management is short sighted"
Sugar Bay is a nice property, great location, and the staff are good people. However, management is not training the staff adequately and is so intent on cutting costs they are missing substantial opportunity to increase ROI. We stayed at Sugar Bay for a family member's wedding. The place was very nice, clean and the people were friendly. The rooms were typical for a tropical destination, but kept clean. Food was plentiful and good. We were a little concerned because of previous reviews, but we had a wondeful time at Sugar Bay. Our only "complaint" was that we didn't always […] get enough clean towels or washclothes each day. It actually became like a game to see what we would get. After speaking to the housekeeping staff, it appears that laundry was done all day, but because they cleaned the rooms early each day, the towels, etc were not ready in time. "Front desk = Horrible ; Rest of the hotel great"
My husband and I arrived at the hotel with my sister-in-law and her fiance. To our shock and suprise, the entire lobby was under construction. As we are trying to check in, all we can hear are jack hammers and drilling! Expedia NOR the Sugar bay site said anything about the hotel being under construction. Only one of our rooms was "ready". We were a […] bit upset, but agreed to just crash in one room until the other was ready. The front desk associate assured us that our rooms would be next to each other. After an extremely long check-in process (including signing WAIVERS!) we finally recieved our keys. We get up to the "clean and ready" room only to open the door to a room that was trashed. There was water everywhere, the bed was obviously slept in, and there was garbage in the trash cans. We went back downstairs, annoyed, but hopeful that we would get another room to our liking. When we got back down to the desk, they told us that there were no other rooms available for us (there were people checking in around us with no problems). Now we started to get really irritated, so we asked to speak to a manager. The Front office Manager, Natasha, came up to us (with quite the attitude after speaking to other guests having a similar issue) and told us, and I quote, "If you don't like it here, you can leave. Go have lunch and think it over. We will release you of any fees and you can call Expedia and go somewhere else." We were completely taken back by her attitude and demeanor.
