The hotel is conveniently located near the Shinagawa station and the commercial center nearby. "Relaxing hotel in the middle of a megalopolis"
This is my "go to hotel" in central Tokyo. It is convenient to the business and entertainment districts. There are numerous dining facilities close by for the budget minded as fine dining establishments. There is a beautiful and serene Japanese garden on the hotel grounds that is very relaxing. It makes you forget the you are in the middle of a megalopolis. […] You get more value for your money than the five star hotels in town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, great Japanese gardens"
- Very close and convenient to JR line train station - Inside the hotel area and very safe - Magnificent Japanese Gardens between the other Prince Hotels, we took a lot of photos - Hotel staff was very polite, actually any person in Japan was very politeGenuine Expedia guest review
I travel to Tokyo regularly with work and this is hands down one of the worst hotels for the price I have stayed at. Additionally if you find yourself in the misfortunate position of staying here avoid the steakhouse that is in the restaurant at all cost. There is wonderful food in Japan but this is not the place to find it. You'll pay dearly for wandering […] into this trap as well. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great hotel. Did get a bit of a workout walking up the hill from train station, but the view was great. Breakfast buffet was very good, but expensive. Used free wifi in lobby.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Definitely fit for a prince!"
Beautiful hotel. Staff was friendly and really went out of their way to be helpful. For example, when I went to the gift shop in one of the hotels in the complex and it was closed, they not only told me about another gift shop that was still open in the other hotel, but insisted on walking with me through the garden to make sure I found it. Many of […] the staff spoke excellent English, which was most helpful. The Japanese gardens between the three Prince Hotels in the complex were incredibly beautiful. Plenty of inexpensive restaurants, shopping and the Shinagawa train station are a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hill is steep, but you can take a shortcut through the other Prince hotel farther down the hill and walk through the gardens. If you don't need your room cleaned every day, there is a $5 gift certificate available if you notify the front desk that you want the "greener cleaning service" before 9am. You can use the certificate in the hotel restaurants or shops. Plenty of hotel umbrellas available at all the outside doors that you can borrow when it is raining. I would definitely stay here again. "Great short four day stay"
The location is nearby to Metro and JR station. One can order airport limousine arrangement from airport to hotel and back very conveniently. The hotel has a beautiful Japanese garden in the back.Genuine Expedia guest review
I really enjoyed my stay. One reviewer gave me a heads up on how to enter the hotel through the sister hotel and walk through garden, Very helpful. It meant I didn"t have to climb up that hill twice a day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old but very clean."
The hotel is very clean, and the non-smoking room is definitely free from smokes. The only downside is, a bit far walk from the Shinagawa station (though hotel does provide free shuttle running between hotel and the station), and the furnitures are dated (except for TV). And, the walls seem to be a bit thin, which is expected for an older building/property. […] I could hear (but not clearly) people next door and also in the hallway, that I don't find when staying at a newer 'Prince' hotel like Prince Annex. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Terrific Tokyo Travel"
The Takenawa Prince complex of hotels and gardens are a lovely oasis in the city with easy access to the Shinagawah train station, a major hub for connections all over the city. The modern hotel is spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, with an accommodating and courteous staff that do everything possible in the way of service to assure your comfortable […] and pleasant stay. There is as free shuttle bus to and from the station every half hour but most days we enjoyed the brisk short walk to the train. The concierge and front desk are wonderful supplying maps and offering suggestions for local sights, restaurants, and entertainment. English fluency is also quite good which was helpful to us. Reasonable rates too! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Favorite in Tokyo"
Although it now caters to a larger clientele and competes on price, it istill offers everything one expects of a top class hotel. The rooms are comfortable, the service is excellent and the location in walking distance of Shinagawa Station and subway is unbeatable. My wife and I have come here for years and we continue to enjoy the place.Genuine Expedia guest review
While, location requires some walking (unless using taxis/cars), it is situated in a beautiful Japanese garden on a low hill in southern Tokyo. It is a little confusing to find the hotel, among other sister hotels(among Prince Shin-Takanawa, Prince Sakura Tower and Grand Prince Takanawa, also including Banquet halls), once you are settled, you will […] enjoy the whole choice of restaurants/shops/gardens etc. Hotel staff are professionals and eager to help guests for any matters. "Great Hotel for One & All"
Grand Prince Takanawa Hotel is but one of a few all with similar names on the same property. This gives the hotel the ability to have an expansive traditional Japanese garden in between the Takanawa, Sakura and Shin-takanawa hotels. The staff was very helpful, even beating out traditional Japanese standards for excellence in customer service. Much of […] the front desk staff spoke English which was also helpful when describing complex issues. For example--I had made 1000 cranes for my friend's Japanese wedding but I did not have a nice display vase for them. The front desk staff hunted down the right shop for me (an Ikebana shop) and they had a vase waiting for me by the time I walked to the store. I am a big fan of Sengakuji Temple (of 47 Ronin fame) which is about 1500m from the hotel. I have the option to stay anywhere but my experience with this hotel was so good I will definitely stay again. Thanks for the great recommendation Expedia! Chris B. "How bad can it get - Grand Prince Takanawa bad!"
First, let me say I hated this hotel, and I would never return there or recommend it to anyone. The location is in the most boring part of Tokyo, you will need to leave the area to do anything, decent shopping, decent restaurants, decent nightlife - none of that will be found anywhere near this hotel. The hotel advertises wifi - well, for a surcharge, […] and only if they happen to be able to supply your room with a route, of which they have a limited supply. So there's a good chance you won't have to spend an extra Y1000 per day because there's a good chance they won't have a router to give you. Oh, and the concierge service - useless, totally useless. Anything good about this place? Well it is only 10 minutes (uphill walk) from Shinagawa Station on the JR line, a key subway line for getting around Tokyo, and one you will use often, because there is nothing to enjoy in or near the hotel Avoid it like the plague! "Make this your next rip abroad"
We read many of the previous reviews before we booked this hotel, I have to say that their reviews are 'spot on'. The hotel is well situated in the Shinagawa area where most trains intersect. Easy departure to Kyoto and Hiroshima on the bullet train, 'Shinkasen". Try and get the pass by applying 2-3 weeks ahead of time to save money as travel is expensive […] in Japan. Although most newer hotels in japan are tiny, these rooms were spacious amd had a garden view. The bell staff were extremely helpfull with our plans for travel and spoke excellent English. I commend them and although there is no tipping in Japan, we appreciated them so much that we bought them gifts for all thier efforts. A definite thumbs up. Peter in California. "Fabulous week at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa"
I spent a week at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa and was very pleased with my experience. The hotel is lovely and the grounds between the sister hotel are spectacular, simply spectacular. Such a surprise to find this lovely oasis in the middle of bustling Tokyo. The hotel is very conveniently located as it is an easy walk to the Shinagawa metro station […] and the station is surrounded by great stores and restaurants. I only ate twice at the hotel...once at the incredible steak house where the Kobi beef melted in my mouth, and the other time in the lovely french restaurant where the service and food was impeccable. "A loyal customer, 20 years + in Japan"
Being a regular customer in this hotel as well as the surrounding Prince Hotels in Shinagawa, this is my preferred choice in regards to its location, its Japanese traditional originality, consistency with service, accessibility, staff friendliness and all a customer is looking for in an accommodation. I usually stay 2 weeks in a row several times in […] the year and will continue to do so. Sushi, tempura restaurant a first class treatment! Great room for a reasonable price. I had a panoramic view of the city of Tokyo through my window. Everyday I strolled down the wonderful garden that connected the different Grand Prince Hotels from Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa. The staff were friendly and most of them could communicate in English. The Shinagawa subway station's just 3-minutes walking […] distance away from the hotel, a convenient way to commute. The hallway in going to the rooms smelled a bit musty, although, this went away while passing through. I think the hallway needed a little renovation to remove the musty odor. "Best location and price-performance!"
The location of this hotel is unbeatable -- the Shinagawa station is right down the hill, which is an easy 5-minute walk. Shinagawa station is one of main station on the JR Yamanote line (the Tokyo inner circle line), Narita line (to the airport), and Shiganshen line (To Kyoto and Mt. Fuji). There are numerous restaurants and shops at the station, and […] a big super market in the basement where you can get fresh fruit, sushi and practically everything you need. There's a fridge in the room to keep your perishables fresh. Since this is one the three Prince hotels, you can use the guest relations from the other two hotels, which are open from 7am-9pm. "A good choice for a moderate priced hotel in Tokyo"
Although this hotel is not near any major tourist attractions, it is very close to a major station, which means you can get anywhere easily. Taxis are right outside the hotel as well. "Dated, but comfortable and great location"
I had stayed here about 5 years ago, so when I booked this time I knew what to expect. This hotel is a bit dated - the lobby and architecture makes you think it is 1972. The rooms are comfortable, but also a tad dated compared to the latest business hotels in the same area (like the Intercontinental Strings). However it is at least half the cost of […] that hotel, and I think a fair tradeoff. The location is just a 1.5 blocks from Shinagawa station, and a great place for business. The garden next to it is amazing, and I think makes up for the datedness of the lobby. Overall I think this hotel is a great trade-off for price/comfort/location for doing business in the Tokyo area. One caveat: The "free" internet is ONLY for WIRED internet. If you want WIFI it costs extra. I was okay with this, but I saw other guests in the hotel who were a put off by this. "Just a short walk farther"
When leaving Shinigawa station, there are numerous Prince Hotels in sight. The Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is a little harder to spot and the walk is only a minute or two farther, but it is every bit as luxurious at a much more competitive price. The staff was eager to make the stay as pleasant as possible. If you need to access the Shinigawa Station […] and can tolerate up to a 5 minute walk, I highly recommend this hotel. "Might want look at another hotel"
The breakfast was a bit pricy and wasn't all that great. We stayed at another hotel in Tokyo that had a much better breakfast buffet for less than half the price. The hotel is kind of old and it shows. However, we did like the gardens that is next to the hotel. I would not stay here again, though.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Grand Prince Takanawa"
Great staff, very helpful. The garden was magnificent. The hotel room seems a bit dated and the bathroom smelled of mildew. The free Internet in room was a cable connection, there is no free wifi. "Good location close to Shinagawa Station"
It is an older hotel but clean and room's size is adequate for Japanese standards. It was a challenge to communicate with the reception staff because we were a group with 4 rooms and breakfast charges. Their English skills are not that great. "A convenience location to the train station"
The Hotel and staff is very nice the room is clean and specious, The reason why I will not recommend to friend is due to we have to walk a 10min slope up back to the hotel which I personal feel very tired. Room was comfortable, but in serious need of a major update. I felt like I was in an eastern European hotel in the 70's. Location is okay, a bit off the beaten path but close to Shinegawa Station. A very pleasant stay; staff was very courteous. Room was well equipped (I am used to carrying a torch as part of my standard travel kit, I was surprised to find a wall mounted torch in the room which was well-designed into the furniture layout!) Toilet was very clean, toilet seat was high tech (as is usual everywhere in Japan), its shower jet was spot […] on! A very pleasant Japanese style garden on one side of the hotel, my room on 10th floor provided great views of Tokyo Tower and the city skyline. Location of the hotel is very convenient, just about 7mins walk from the JR Shinagawa station, hotel's shuttle bus service comes in handy when carrying heavy items of luggage.
