Our primary purpose was to golf and that we did! Of the 7 courses, we did 5 and some twice. The traffic in Kapaa get quite heavy during the work hours so it is helpful to know there are upper roads you can take to by pass. The hotel was conveniently located and more than adequate for our needs,. Next time I would ask for a ocean view though!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but few amenities"
The hotel itself was ideally located and very clean. The hotel is right on the beach, although there are posted warning signs about rough current. The pool is small, but never seemed particularly busy. The pool had a small bar, but no other amenities. The pool area did have BBQs, which was a nice feature if you wanted to cook for yourself for a few […] nights. The room was clean and well appointed. It had a coffeemaker, small refrigerator and a microwave. There were plates, cups and silverware in the cabinet. The beds were comfortable, and the room had both an AC unit and a ceiling fan. I could have used another blanket on the bed, but that's probably just me. The in-room wi-fi was reasonably fast. The phone was crackly, to the point that it was useless for making calls. The only complaints I have relate to the parking and the continental breakfast. If you try to park after about 6 p.m. the lot is full and you have to park in the driveway that services several hotels. There is overflow parking, but it also fills up and and you have to move your car by 10 a.m. The continental breakfast was coffee, powdered creamer and some pastries. No juice, milk, cereal or hot food. We arrived about a half-hour after it opened, so it wasn't a matter of it being gone, it was never there to begin with. There are several options in the adjacent shopping center, but with breakfast being part of the resort fee, it would have been nice had it offered more. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"wonderful affordable place to stay"
We were only here two nights, as we were staying multiple places during our time on the island, however it was a very nice place. We ended up getting upgraded to an ocean view to help another customer out who needed two double beds instead of one King. There is a nightly resort fee which was very reasonable compared to another place we stayed. The Saturday […] night band and drinks at the pool were really relaxing. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
HOTEL WAS FINE BUT DID NOT LIKE THE $15 per day charge extra. Our reservation was "paid in full" but then they added a hotel charge per day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for a short stay"
It was good for a short stay. Conveniently located to restaurants & shops. Nice beach. The only glitch was we were unable to print airline boarding passes in the lobby because the internet connection was down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This place is just GREAT! We stayed there for our honeymoon while in Kauai.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent for short stay"
The wifi did not work... There is a $15/night fee for cleaning & wifi which I found out about during checkout... The staff is not very accommodating, considering the fact that wifi did not work & the hotel insisted on charging the extra feeGenuine Expedia guest review
"GREAT PLACE TO STAY!"
Amazing place to stay with an awesome staff! We are already planning another trip to come back!Genuine Expedia guest review
This was our 2nd stay at Aston Islander and we were just as pleased as the first time we stayed at this hotel. The location in Kapaa is central for trips around the island and close to grocery stores, shops, and restaurants right in front of the hotel. (Check out Kilauea Fish Market for some tasty fish tacos and Trees next door for some great live music […] in the evening) The location of the hotel on the beach is nice for a short leisurely stroll or gazing at the beautiful view. I did go for a swim at the beach here and there were some others in the water but the conditions are rough and there's a lot of rocks. Proceed with caution and use common sense or drive to another beach with safer conditions. There are signs on the property warning you of these conditions. There are some gas grills conveniently located near the pool. Plan to grill while there's still some daylight or bring a flashlight as it gets pretty dark in this area. You might find the pool and jacuzzi to be small and get crowded for the size of the hotel. This didn't bother us as the pool/jacuzzi aren't a priority when we're on Kauai. In summary, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Islander and would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Parking is a problem"
Parking is at a minimum here. Is free but if you aren't early you have to make in the mall and walk a ways. The place was a little dated but it was very reasonably priced.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bad start.......soon got better"
I reserved ocean front well in advance. Since my wife and I wanted an upper view I telephoned the hotel TWICE and requested a second floor accommodation. Both times I was assured that our request would be satisfied. Upon arrival I was told that our room would be on the third floor. My wife can handle one flight of stairs but no more. I explained to […] the receptionist that I had requested and was assured that we would be accommodated on the second floor. She insisted that her records showed a third floor request? She then said that we could be placed in a second floor room in another building. I went to the new accommodation and, to put it mildly, was shocked that the room was not ocean front and only had a limited ocean view! I returned to the receptionist and explained that it was not what I paid for. She apologized and said that she was not familiar with that particular building. To her credit, she looked through her records and found another room for us. With great trepidation I went to this room. I am happy to say that it was what I had originally hoped for and expected.....second floor, balcony, fantastic panorama view! I have no idea why the mix-up occurred in the first place. I did not get the impression that it was the clerk's fault since she was reasonable and quite helpful. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay otherwise. My wife cried when we left. We look forward to returning again and again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Perfect location right on the beach!"
Rooms are small, but clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. Shops and restaurants within walking distance. We would stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Pros: friendly staff, clean room, easy parking, beautiful views, nice decor, peaceful area Cons: room had an odd smell when we first walked in but cleared out after opening the lanai doors.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel right on the beach, very accomodating and friendly staff. Need pool bar to be in operation.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was not at the hotel much and there was construction going on in the adjacent building so I did not spend much time at the hotel. Since it was a working trip it wasn't difficult to be out during the construction times.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I enjoyed our stay, for the most part...."
The hotel was nice! Much nicer than I had expected for the price. There was a $15.60 fee per night tacked on (room services, etc.), but it wasn't a surprise to me. We had been camping (cycle tour of the island), so staying in any hotel with a hot shower was wonderful...and there was only one rooster that was less vocal. Yay! It was the end of our 3 […] week trip, so we utilized the air conditioning and BBQ area. There was a kitchenette, which was great, and a PS2 to play games and watch movies. It was also nice that everything was within walking distance (no bike riding): Close to restaurants, grocery stores and a shopping center---if you're into getting touristy stuff, and the beach was right there. We even rented DVDs, for free, in the lobby!...well, I'm sure that was part of the $15.60. The only (BIG) down side was that they were doing maintenance work M-F starting at 8am. VERY LOUD drilling and sawing on a connecting wall. My feeling: You should warn residents of this before checking them in...or better yet, DON'T GIVE OUT THOSE ROOMS while that work is being done. Is that why it was a deal? Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean, but the resort fee is a scam"
It was nice but did not feel like a resort. For us it was fine. My only complaint is that they did try to charge us a resort fee of $15 and I explained I had prepaid and would not be giving my credit card over for additional fees. We were there for just one night. For an extended stay I think you can get a condo in princeville for a comparable price […] and I would recommend that over the Aston resort so you'd have a kitchen and more space. We used this hotel as a one night layover until we met our friends the next day at their timeshare. The hotel was very clean, the grounds were clean and beautiful, the staff was awesome as well. "Right on the beach"
Great stay for our first night, waited on the beach while they finished cleaning our room. Room was older but well maintained. Beautiful grounds with lots of flower beds. Staff was merely okay and didn't have any good suggestions for restaurants, but there are plenty of restaurants and little shops in kapa'a.Genuine Expedia guest review

"very pleasant stay"
My Mom, daughter and I stayed for a family vacation. The hotel is very clean, in great repair, with lovely grounds and simple, tasteful Hawaiian decor. Staff was always friendly and accommodating. The beach there is pretty to walk on, but you can'tdo much more thsn wade in the water due to the rough water on east Kauai shore. This is the case with most […] E shore hotels. There is a fantastic beach park half a mile down the road, however, with large enclosed swimming areas. The pool at the hotel is very nice and we also hung out there quite a bit. "Nice hotel close to the beach"
Even though this was a nice hotel there was no mention of the fact in the expedia ad that it was 3 stories and there were no elevators. When we checked in there were no porters available - try getting your bags up 3 flights of stairs - especially if you are a senior!Genuine Expedia guest review
"An okay place to stay for a 3-star hotel."
We enjoyed our stay in Kauai. The location of the hotel strategic in the East side of the island, just behind the Coconut Market (lots of stores and a few good place to eat: Harvey's, Lappert's ice cream, Eggbert's), near by downtown Kapa'a, airport and not too far from the outdoor activities places both in the south or north sides of the island. It […] can be hard finding a parking place after 9pm and the parking places are way too tight - no wonder all the cars have dings and scratches on them. If I'm being specifically charged for amenities, it would be nice if they worked - wifi sucks and when it did work, it was very slow; the DVD machine is a joke - why show movies that aren't available and the instructions are poorly written. On the plus side, the staff gets five stars. If a nearby room flushes their commode at 0100, you will wake up. It would be nice if the bathtub drained properly. We will come back to Kauai and we may even stay here, maybe. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel with great ocean view."
This property is centrally located on the island of Kauai so it is convenient to go either north or south. The feel of the hotel is old school Hawaiian and is very clean. "I always end up staying here:)"
I figure if its not broke dont fix it...so when I go to Kauai I dont try other hotels...I have stayed here twice, paid for partial ocean view. The room is clean and nice. The ocean is right there...not for swimming though. The staff has always been really nice. I like that its by the coconut marketplace, and there is a bar and restaurant in the parking […] lot. There is construction going on right now. They are remodeling a couple of the buildings...it wasnt to bad. Its impossible not to upgrade without upsetting someone, without closing down completely. Renovations going on at the time of our stay. Didn't bother us much but our room hadn't been redone as yet. Some things like A/C needed to be replaced but we didn't even use it anyway. "Sleep with the ocean sound"
It was my second time and the building that I loved last time was under renovation so I stayed on the other side ( Malokai) in the bedroom with partial view of the ocean. The room is big with a bed and a sofa and I could see part of the ocean and have breakfast watching the sunrise. I could hear (with the door of lanai open) the waves . This room had […] just a few plates, mugs and silverware. Microwave, coffee pot and a fridge (small) no ice compartment. Looked bare compared to the unit that I stayed last time that had a blender, etc. Room is clean and the water pressure is great. They have soap, conditioner shampoo, body wash and lotion, detergent and sponge. The people at front desk was super friendly and I spend some time getting suggestions of were to go. Since I had three bookings I had to check in and out for three days. They kept my baggage since I had a late flight and I could explore the island without worried about having them in the car. Didn't use the movie machine, just the internet. The hotel is very well located. I booked a Kayak trip next door, it was amazing! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice stay despite issues"
The hotel was clean, lobby nicely decorated. It felt very traditional Hawaiian. Although there were 3 key things the hotel could change to vastly improve their facility. Firstly parking, parking was truly a nightmare. Second, elevators. It is imperative that elevators be installed for the people that might need them. Lastly, housekeeping. I went to […] the beach & came back to a hotel with sand still on the tile floor. We are paying a resort fee & really these are necessities. Overall location was ok, traffic at times was tedious. I would stay again if some improvements were made. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outstanding. People, property and location"
I must take the time to say that our stay at the Islander on the beach far exceeded our expectations. The property, the staff and the rooms were wonderful. If it were not so far away, we would stay there every opportunity we could. The value for the money is unprecedented.Genuine Expedia guest review
For our purposes this hotel was just fine. We were travelling with friends who had a house in Anahola, just 15 minutes away. We were close to food shopping and town amenities, not a good swimming beach, but they had a pool. Good value for the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We used this hotel as base to explore the north and the south of Kauai. It's a nice, silent and clean hotel. Only the extra fee of $15 is a little bit to much or could be included in the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"So worth the money"
Very impressed with all aspects. Splurged on ocean view and our view was outstanding, Second or third floor is the best view by far. Great ammenities and supplies in the room were wonderful. Very nice dishes, silverware, frig, microwave and coffee pot. Enjoyed breakfast on the balcony after awesome sunrises each day. Great location and beautiful grounds. […] Very small tip...they give you coffee each day as part of the "fee". Good flavor, but weak and only makes 2-3 cups and they charge for additional packets. Bring your own from home. "Aston on the Beach, Kauai"
The hotel is nice, but not easy to find. Parking is limited, not enough spaces for the guest. They do nickel and dime you to death. "great place for exploring the island"
I came back for a second time, because the hotel's location is great when you want to expore the island in every direction and at the same time have a cozy place on the oceanfront. Rooms, service and friendliness and helpfulness of the staff are great; although for a longer stay I wish the room service would do some dusting and mopping in between.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"wonderful place to visit!"
very quiet area. Never heard noise from any other rooms other then when we had door open to listen to surf and neighbors below us sat outside. We hade a room ocean side on 2nd floor. Any time we were in our room we kept sliding glass door open and all night slept to the sound of the ocean. They have a nice little bar pool side (never went to it). The […] only thing I would say bad about the place is that the hot tub is entirely too small. They need to enlarge it or limit the time people are allowed to stay in it. We were never able to take advantage of this area as it was always full. The hotel seem to have more older people staying there but this kept it respectful and peaceful. Bathrooms were very large, lots of room to work. We had a great stay and room was always cleaned and staff was friendly and helpful. We watched whales jumping in the ocean from our room each evening. "Great value for the money"
Perhaps not quite as remote as advertised, this property was a very good value for the money. The room was fine, but nothing special, and perhaps just a bit on the tired side. That said, the property faces in an easterly direction, so with an Ocean Front room, you'll be treated to amazing sunrises every morning the weather permits.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice rooms, good location"
The room itself was clean, bright, and airy. It was nice to have a microwave and fridge in the room. The beds were very comfortable! The hotel is in a great location, right on the beach. The only downside was that the staff weren't particularly friendly. The one day I wanted to speak with the concierge, she wasn't at the desk--a note said she'd be back […] at a certain time, and 20 minutes after that time she still wasn't there. The front desk staff saw me waiting and didn't offer to answer any questions or suggest another time to come back. The location is perfect: right next to the coconut marketplace with lots of little shops, restaurants, etc. And just across the parking lot from the Trees Lounge, the only bar in the area open past 9 or 10pm.
