"Nice hotel close to the Vatican."
We (family of four - 2 adults and 2 teenagers) arrived at Atlante Garden Hotel in the early morning on the free shuttle from the airport. Since our room was not available yet, the hotel allowed us to store our luggage and use their facilities to freshen up. The staff was very helpful in providing directions, recommendations for dinner, and spoke good English. The elevator is very small but adds to the ambiance of the hotel. Our room was comfortable, quiet, and had a large bathroom. Couldn't get WiFi in the room but it was available in the breakfast room and lobby. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a variety of pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, and juices.

"Super close to the Vatican. Great little gem."
Our arrival was wonderful when we were greeted by Stefano at the front desk. He is very knowledgeable about places to go and how to get there without spending a fortune! In fact, most of the tour guides and hospitality staff were very keen on letting guests know how to get the best deal for your money. The hotel is older and the rooms small with tall ceilings. But if you're planning on touring, you will only need your room to sleep and bathe anyways. Plenty of closet space. Very clean. The lobby is slightly lower than street level and there is no ramp so this would not be a good place for someone with accessibility issues. The breakfast was excellent with a great selection. Key things to look out for are, make sure to contact the hotel 3 days prior to arrival to arrange the shuttle pick up. The price does not include transportation back to the airport if needed. Internet access is free in the lobby, however there is a charge for use in the room (10 Euro for 8 hours). Otherwise, a great value.

"Perfect location near the Vatican"
We had a fantastic time at the hotel. Breakfast was wonderful, they can make fresh cappuccino on request as well. The staff was really helpful -- they had great advice on restaurants and tracked down event information for us. They also helped us buy the Vatican Museums tickets with the skip the line and no set time options. The room was charming -- very European not American style with very high ceiling and lots of woodwork . We stayed in the junior suite with two single beds for our daughters. The shower fixtures needed some updating but everything else was great. Internet is not free in the room but they have a living room-type area downstairs with a public computer and free wi-fi.

"Disappointing--Convenient to Vatican City"
It was kind of quaint and stereotypical European, but rather disappointing. The fabric wallpaper throughout the hallways and in the rooms was so dark that I could not get enough light into the room to see well enough anywhere except the fluorescent light of the bathroom. The bathroom grout in the shower needed serious attention and there were two unknown pipes sticking out of the tile. Also, the tub/shower were on a raised platform--a little bit of a safety risk for children and older adults. The air conditioner ran constantly but the room never cooled down enough.

This is the perfect area. Very close to the Vatican. Many good restaurants in the area and lots of shopping close by. We took a taxi from the hotel to the Coliseum and the cost was 10 euros. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is free WiFi on the ground floor. We had no problems getting connected. Only drawback was breakfast was not included even though we were told it was. 9 euros for a full breakfast. The shuttle to the airport was on time and the cost was 50 euros...not a bad deal. I would stay there again!

"Hotel Atlante, Rome"
First Expedia experience and did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Overall very satisfied for the cost. Nice location close to the Vatican. Room was quiet and clean but with two twin mattresses pushed together, sleeping on the crack can be uncomfortable on otherwise comfortable mattresses. Great breakfast with hot eggs, sausages, pastries, fresh fruit, etc. Biggest surprises were (1) the 40 euro charge for two to get shuttle back to the airport! Expedia information on that was vague and left assumption the ride both ways was included and (2) hotel collected a 3 Euro per day per individual city tax and (3) room phone supposed to have free local calls but we were charged for three calls to set up tours. Overall, this was a good experience and I would use this hotel again and recommend it but I think Expedia should be more clear about shuttle service, city tax and phone usage fees.

"Close to the Vatican"
The staff was warm and welcoming. They were very accommodating and responded quickly to any requests. We found the room small but comfortable; there was no extra room for sitting but the space was adequate for three. Our bed was comfortable and the room was cleaned everyday with fresh linens. There was no air conditioning available; we visited early May and were told it would be available later in the season. Sleeping with windows open kept the room from becoming overly stuffy but there was traffic noise that could be bothersome. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was buffet style and, most importantly, provided eggs and meats. Although it was not included in the price of the room, we found it reasonably priced.

"Convenient location... Dusty, old, and nasty room."
Close to metro station, close to Vatican, near mini markets and restaurants. The room slept two adults and two kids (6&8), and compared to some other European city centered hotels we've stayed at this is among average. For the price we paid per night the standards should be much higher but unfortunately this hotel felt like we were staying in a run down Motel 6. Traditionally, my kids get one jump from bed to bed in our hotel rooms. After the first jump from my 45 pound daughter she unveiled the largest dust cloud that never should have come out of a mattress. I fell asleep only after drinking a bottle of wine that night.

"Be Warned: Not What Was Promised"
We got this hotel, partially because of the airport shuttle. We faxed the hotel in the allotted time only to arrive at the airport and wait an hour for them to show up. They never did. We called them three times only to be put on a recorded wait that was never answered. We even had the tourist office call them to no avail. We ended up taking a bus with all of our luggage to the road that the hotel was on. We pulled our luggage down the street at 8 pm hoping to find our hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we were informed that it was CLOSED and we needed to go to a different hotel. We walked back out again looking for the Atlante Star. When we finally arrived, we asked about the shuttle and they said that they never received the fax. We asked why they didn't answer the phone and they gave no answer. The room itself was OK with a sunken mattress and not super clean. There was smoke that came in every night causing everything to smell bad. When it was time to return home, we were informed that the free shuttle was only FROM the airport, not back TO the airport. The shuttle would cost us 48 Euros and could only take us at 4 pm the night before our 6:30 am flight. We ended up taking the bus back at 9 pm in the pouring rain to spend the night at the airport. I would never stay in this hotel again because of the dishonesty of the staff. Frankly, it isn't even the hotel that we booked. We have traveled all over the world and have never had such a bad experience.

"Not the hotel in the picture"
First time in Rome and we were very disappointed. Rome itself was beautiful and I recommend anyone who can go, to visit but the hotel wasn't all that good. The first problem was on the first day, after 8 hours on a flight and waiting 2 hours for the hotel car service to pick us up (free airport pickup), he told us that the bus was full and left us stranded at the airport. We had to pay 90 euros to get to the hotel and were promised to be taken back to the airport for free since they didn't pick us up. The day before we were set to leave we went to reserve our spots (just as we were told to do) and when we arrived at the front desk, some snobby guy who had a horrible attitude told us that the buses were full once again (after they promised us a free ride back) and there was nothing he could do. He didn't care that we were once again stranded because of them and he ignored us by talking on the phone. The hotel picture that is shown on here is not the hotel that you are taken too. The corner hotel in the picture is another Atlante hotel that is close by but it is not the Atlante Garden. The Atlante Garden entrance is located in the middle of an empty street and not in the corner as pictured. Some pictures shown for the Atlante Garden are actually for the other Atlante hotel. The rooms were very small but at least they were somewhat clean, even though the shower in the bathroom was filthy. It is close to the Vatican but I would have stayed at a different hotel.

"Perfect Location with helpful staff"
Of all the staff Francesco at the front desk was extremely friendly, helpful and personable. The entire staff was very professional and Antonietta, the head housekeeper, was an absolute gem. The two bartenders Ekaterina and Alessandra were pleasant and young and beautiful and I tought them how to make a proper gin martini. The location of the hotel is perfect. The view from the rooftop was amazing. It was right by the main transportation hub for the Vatican, so if you needed to get anywhere in or near Rome, you could get to it from there. At the same time, it was not in the over-touristed portion of town with the high prices and junk vendors and crowds. Rather, the local places to grab a capuccino or a bite to eat or even go shopping were all places where the locals went. If you are the kind of traveller who would rather spend time in a little cafe surrounded by locals who don't know English than in a place will a staff well versed in English and the other customers who need it, then I think you would prefer this location. While we were there, we were not averse to walking and were able to see almost all of Rome by foot. However we were also able to take the metro and buses to the farther points like Trastavere and Ostia. We took a bus to the Colleseum, but others in the hotel walked there and back. There is a very nice buffet style breakfast that would satisfy American and European alike.

The front desk staff was at times rude and unhelpful. The lift was very tiny and couldn't hold my mother and her wheelchair. This hotel is not wheelchair accessible. Free Wifi is only available in the lobby and downstairs lounge area, otherwise you have to pay per hour. The shuttle is only free at arrival. There was a 4 Euro fee per person to take the shuttle to the airport on our way home. The location is excellent for visiting the Vatican complex but is quite a distance from other attractions and the airport. I definitely wouldn't consider this a four star hotel. We could only adjust the heat in the room by opening the window. It became very warm at night. The breakfast was good.

"There are three Atlante hotels within 2 blocks"
We booked the Atlante Garden with free pickup at the A/P and buffet breakfast each day. They were there to pick us up and very nice buffet breakfasts were provided as promised. The staff is very nice and accomodating. However, be alert to the possibility that you may not be staying where you think you will be. Atlante has three hotels within a few blocks of each other: the Star (best) Garden (next) and olympic (OK). They overbook and then, if they don't have a room in the hotel booked ,they just move you. This worked out very well for us because we booked the Garden and, after a night in the Olympic, were transferred to the Star for the bulk of our stay. The Star is great. The roof garden and Les Etoiles restaurant below it provide a stunning panorama of the Vatican and the rest of Rome. It's really all you could ask for. But if you book it directly you probably will pay much more for the privilege. And you may not get to stay there for your entire visit. I observed one couple being turned away at the check-in desk at the Star and shunted off to either the Garden or the Olympic, for a night or two, before returning because there were no rooms available. All the hotels are nice and comfortable but the stress of unpacking and repacking and schlepping between facilities is not generally appealing to vacationers from abroad after long flights, etc. So, if you're going to book, be careful.

The hotel was nice but the room was so small I couldn't walk around the bed. It was warm in the room and I had to open the window which was fine if you liked the crashing of bottles and glass all night long and the constant sirens. The breakfast was very good and the servers were polite and very accomodating. The room was clean and it was my first experience in Italy or Europe so maybe I expected more from a 4 star hotel than a 10 by 10 room. I saw other rooms as I walked by and I knew I had the smallest room in the hotel but I had booked what I thought was a bigger room.

"Atlante Garden Hotel"
I was pleased with the hotel overall. Much more comfortable than a hostel or cheaper hotel. The noise wasn't as big as an issue as I thought it might be being next to a busy street, but its something you can't avoid. The street noise is always there, day or night. The only issue I had in regards to the hotel itself, was the expectation of the beautiful rooftop they depicted on the Hotel website...its nothing like it made it seem. You can barely see the Vatican from the rooftop, mainly just other condos and building rooftops. The one spot you could actually see the tip of St Peter's Basilica was closed off. This however, did not ruin any part of my vacation, it was just a little disappointing. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for the stay and friendly staff. They were very helpful and spoke English very well which was our main concerns (language barriers). Also, the area the hotel was located was very accessible to many main attractions and a short walk to the metro. The rooms have thick blackout curtains which help to get a good nights sleep. The elevator is quite small, might take you 2 trips if you have more people and more luggage, otherwise, you might be taking the stairs. Also, don't be fooled! they say the lobby has free Wi-Fi, but you only get a 5 minute trial and then you have to pay extra for further usage.

I have to agree with the rest of the guest that have stayed at this hotel, the location is great just about 7-10 minutes walk to the Vatican and shopping area. But it is NOT a four star hotel. Everything is old (blow dryer, outlets, phones, and decor). If you get a room towards the front it will be noisy at night. The bed is so, so, good enough to sleep after a long day of walking. Franchesco the front desk clerk was not helpful at all, I am glad that Foster was able to help us out. Overall, I would give this hotel a two and a half stars. If you are only planning on sleeping it will be fine.
