Abolutely a great place to stay in Florence. Make sure you get the buffet breakfast included in your reservations. There is enough food to carry you through lunch. The room was fabulous and extremely well appointed. Very quiet location and the rooms were well insulated from the noise. We would stay there again the next time we are in Florence. One more bennie, it was a 10 minute walk to the train station. Two limitations...good restaurants were a significant walk away and taxis are expensive. Make sure you know how to use the hotel phone system so you don't get charged during calling card calls.

This hotel was very comfortable. Although the location was not as close to the city center as I would have liked it to be, it was still quite convenient and the rates appropriately reflected the location. The surrounding area was ok, but there were not a lot of local restaurants. Our room was quite nice although the bathroom was up a short flight of stairs. All in all, though, a very pleasant place to stay with a very helpful staff.

The hotel was beautiful and our room was quite comfortable. It was incredibly quiet, and at times we felt as if we were the only ones staying there. We felt that service could have been quicker and more attentive, but have no real complaints. While the hotel is convenient to the train station, it is about a 15 minute walk from the main sights of Florence.

It is in a good location and the hotel itself is very nice. We found the room quite small. Small TV. Good bathroom and good shower / no bath - the shower cannoty really be used on all settings as it floods the bathroom. The really bad thing is the air con. Really bad design / very inadequate for the room . The room was too hot even with air con on all night / day. Would not go there especially in summer for air con reason. We complained but they did nothing. The hotel was not full so they could have offered us an alternative room. Perhaps they are all the same. Dont go for room 112!! Overall expensive and no wow factor.

I remember your note at front desk and I remember that we promptly checked the air-conditioning device in your room; we noticed that it was a matter of guest setting. I also remember that upon your note, my colleague informed you that we would have chacked and in case an alternative room was available. Then you left the hotel for sightseeing and we didn’t have any further news. The aircon device have to be set-up for temperature and fan speed. Please accept our apologize for this inconvenient, probably due to mis-communication, that ruined the impression of you accommodation. I recently received two guest satisfactory surveys from guests who loved room 112 even when outside was over 90°F. I remain at your disposal for any further information you may need and I hope to have chance to welcome you again in Florence.

Our plans changed and we had to find a hotel in Florence 48 Hours before our flight. Based on the hotel description we chose the Montebello Splendid. The room was on the top floor and was very nice. Air Conditioning seems to be a sign of weakness in Italy, but Florence is hot in August, and it is needed. While our room was nice and cool, I suggest asking for a lower floor. The staff was incredible. As nice as can be, booking restaurants and tours for us. When our rental car would not start, they took over and made the exchange for us. The Hotel is close to the train station, 1/2 a mile to the Ponte Vechio, and about 1 mile to the Duomo, which seemed further away on the hot August days. We loved this place because of the staff; how nice they were and how much care they put into their hotel. We would absolutely go back.

The overall hotel and service was adequate. They do not have dinner service in their hotel on a Saturday night. If you have just arrived and want to unwind to have dinner you either have to go outside of the hotel or order room service. The restaurant staff was a bit overwhelmed but did their best. The food was delivered cold to room service and needed to be re-heated. They had internet issues for connection when I arrived. Unless you were able to connect via phone card (I did not outside of the US) you could not use the service. It was the weekend and their service provider is in Switzerland therefore this could not be corrected until after the weekend. Due to the nature of my needing internet connection the hotel manager finally agreed to find another way to get me internet connection through their hotel server as opposed to the connection that was offered and not working.

I had reasonably high expectations from this hotel, but was left disappointed. On arrival the service was snooty and rude, making us feel unwelcome. Perhaps it was my casual shorts and t-shirt, but when I'm on holiday I wear whatever I want ? and I do not appreciate an arrogant look from the receptionist. The room itself was nice. Large, clean and well equipped, with a large terrace facing the courtyard. The location, however, is at least 10 minutes from most of the attractions, and there are plenty of better hotels in better locations. After returning to Florence a few days later we stayed in another hotel, and were treated like royalty. Stay away from this very average 'luxury' hotel, and spend your money where the word 'service' means something!

out of value="5"Dear Guest, I'd like to thank you for staying at our hotel during your visit in Florence and for taking time to write your precious feedback. Please accept my apologize for the lack of welcoming approach you received upon arrival by a member of our staff. I've no precise information in order to take provisions nor I'd like to defend the receptionist who was rude to you, but I'd like to inform that we are used to welcome plenty of tourists in their casual dress. There is no dress code at our hotel, even in the restaurant. Our guests are absolutely free to feel comfortable: shorts and sandals are quite usual during hot season. Our staff is more and more committed in flexibility and promptness to satisfy our guest's request of assistance and information. The staff at the Montebello Splenid come at work not only for their wage, but also for their professional satisfaction. I'm used to share with them on a monthly basis the latest guest's comments or reviews we receive and I'm proud to notice the joy for a positive feedback and the commitment to improve themselves in front of a negative one. I'm glad you overall enjoyed our facilities and room, but I really regret that a misbehaviour or a misunderstanding of a receptionist ruined the entire stay with us and again I present our apologize.

The Montebello is really well situated, just out of the busy centre of town but close to the river and an easy walk to all the sights. It's a short walk from the station and several nice restaurants. Our room was comfortable and well decorated with a great bathroom. The maid service was good. The public areas are also well kept. We had good service in all areas. We were impressed by the Welcome menu in the excellent restaurant. It's offered on the first night of your stay at a cost of ?33 each, including a bottle of wine. We also liked the "tapas" style nibbles provided with pre dinner drinks in the bar. We accidentally left a pair of trousers and they were returned within a couple of days of an e-mail asking whether they had been found.
