My family stayed here for a short weekend trip to Houston to enjoy the zoo and museums, but we found this hotel was a gem within itself. The staff treated all newcomers as royalty, especially the valet and the breakfast staff in the Driscoll restaurant. I noticed w/ the proximity to various hospitals that the majority of visitors are patients and their families. I found this hotel is more than accommodating to those w/ limited mobility, and what a wonderful way to reduce the stress that may incur w/ medical procedures. There is a metro (train) stop in front of the hotel, and a few restaurants within walking distance. The hotel offers a shuttle with a 2-mile radius which is AWESOME! "Not what we expected"
Difficult to find in downtown Houston. Difficult to find parking. Literally had to let my wife out to go inside to check in and find non-valet parking. $22.00 for valet parking otherwise you end up on the third floor of the garage with no good directions on how to use the elevator. Ended up walking down three ramps with our luggage to get to the hotel. […] Part of this was through a construction site area. Valet area was almost vacant while there were a large number of non-valet vehicles on the 3rd floor with ours. Of course as you noted breakfast included is another $24.95. We skipped that part. Internet usage is another $9.95 for the night and we skipped that as well. AC was extremely cold. Adjusted it down a degree and it got warm in the room very quickly. You'd better have A LOT of money to stay at this hotel. Your parking is $/day valet or $ to self park, and another $ if you leave and come back. Internet is available free in the lobby, otherwise you'll pay $ /day for access from your room. There is no microwave, so you'll have to eat at Driscolls ($ for breakfast buffet, etc). They also have no discounts […] for medical patients, veterans or seniors. I stayed with my father on a trip to MD Anderson; this hotel was one of the worst and most expensive trips of my life. I've stayed at 2 different Marriott hotels in Houston over the last month. Both were disappointing. The room was clean but out dated. The front desk staff where great! The restaurant and bar staff where not; I tried several times to order food and each time it took the staff more than 25 minutes to even come over and take our order; which they did with as much warm welcome as a partially defrosted chicken. Then waited 45 minutes for food so gave up […] and canceled my order; we walked over to the Hilton where the food and service was awesome and the prices not to much more. We also ate at the Starbucks and the noodle place around the corner (without these we would have starved!) I would not stay here again. First of all, never get a room next to exercise room because we wish we would have known. Starting at 7AM until about 10AM on a Sunday morning constant dropping of weights and everything else imaginable.
