The Latham satisfied once again. Great value and location. The hotel was very clean and staff was very courteous. The only negative is the carpeting in the rooms will need replacing sooner than later due to normal wear and tear. I would recommend the Latham Hotel to anyone looking for accomodations in Center City Philadelphia.

The hotel itself is in a great location and is within walking distance of most all of the main Philadelphia attractions. The people who work there had gone out of their way to be helpful with their suggestions for restaurants and directions. We were especially pleased with the room. The layout of the room was very nice in that the bedroom area was angled away from the bathroom area with a desk area separating the two. The decorations were homey and cheerful. We were both very pleased with our stay and would definitely come back again and recommend the hotel to our friends.

out of value="10""Latham Hotel is tired"
Reviewed by Molly of Washington Dc on Nov 15, 2009
"Tired and worn out" are the words that describe the Latham hotel. Upon arriving they sent us to a room with a double bed, even though we ordered a Queen size. The bed visibly dipped in the middle. When I tried it out, I felt like i was in a 1960-style sitcom when my husband and I rolled into the middle and could barely swim ourselves out. We were sent to another room which did have a Q-sized bed, but the mattress was still woefully lacking and left us stretching our backs every morning. Also, the sheets were polyester and scratchy and the comforter was also poly, worn thin, and pilled. It did not evoke a sense of cleanliness. Next, the shower drained so slowly that I was left in ankle-deep water in moments. The bath also only had two towels in it. This is not a huge deal, since I am a one-shower a day person--but if we wanted to have a post-nap refresher, we would have been out of luck and missing the small sense of luxury that we might count on in a better hotel. The cable at the hotel is also lacking, no opportunities to download movies and the selection of tv programs was limited, so if a hotel guest wanted to do some serious chilling out in front of the tube--you are out of luck. Also, the cabinet that holds the TV and has drawers for clothes underneath was like a tavern puzzle. You had to close the doors to the tv cabinet in order to open the drawers underneath them. Also, the hotel has no room service or mini bar, yet charged $50/night to your card for "incidentals." This seemed weird and unreasonable to us, since the only incidental that we might take was the one bottle of water in the room. It is in the middle of Rittenhouse Sq -- which was a great neighborhood.

Hotel was cozy, clean, and in a very convenient location close to Rittenhouse Square and lots of places to eat. Beds were not the most comfortable and the room was on the small size. My only other gripe is that I booked a non-smoking room with a queen-size bed but due to a "computer glitch" was given a smoking room with two double-beds, and other guests were unable to stay in the hotel at all due to the glitch.

There was no cafe, room service or any type of food/beverage service in the hotel. Elevator was broken for approx 12 hours on one day of the weekend...no one attempted to apologize, no one hung a sign on the elevator, no offer of water, and only 4 chairs in lobby to accommodate the many people that were waiting for elevator to be fixed, because they could not walk the stairs due to health problems, cumbersome luggage, etc. Front desk was unmanned most of the weekend. You had to shout into the back room to get someone to attend to you. Doormen were very helpful with bags, getting cabs, etc, however.

There is no way this hotel can be called 3-1/2 star. Our room was like a relic of the '50's. Wallpaper moldy and peeling; rug stained and loose with wrinkles. Furniture that looked like it was bought at a garage sale. A TV of 1990's vintage. No Internet. We were dumbfounded. The only positive note was a recently updated, if plain and small, bathroom. However, the door opened a foot from one of the beds, making privacy an issue. The staff, however, were all friendly and helpful. I would not stay in this hotel again, nor would I recommend it.

Okay, the Latham shows a little wear and tear around the edges (worn furniture and carpet, some TV sound problems), but it's got the best location for walking Philadelphia, dining at trendy spots or holes-in-the-wall (we sampled both the cutting-edge Cuban hotspot and Little Pete's Diner), and being close to almost anything you would want to visit. It's clean and cozy. The staff is a bit sparse if you are used to corporate places with 50 bellhops and concierges, but could not have been more helpful and friendly. If you value charm and personality over generic gleaming surfaces and anonymous staff, this is the only place to stay. I will definitely be returning.

I stayed at the Latham this past weekend 10/23 to 10/25/09 and the hotel to date is a mere shadow of what it once was. At one point and time it was one Philadelphia's premiere hotels. It is now in horrible condition. Tattered rugs, broken shelves in the bathroom, stained marble floors, old and chipping furniture to name a few of the most obvious things. However, the staff was wonderful and always willing to assist and accommodate the clients needs. Also, the location of the hotel makes it perfect if you're not familiar with Philadelphia or traveling without a vehicle. If you're not planning to spend much time in the room then it's perfect. MEG
