Laurel Court - Serveing award-winning regional cuisine for breakfast and lunch daily. On Saturday and Sunday, guests can experience San Francisco’s finest afternoon tea service in this elegant restaurant.
Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar - A tropical destination famous for its dynamic thunder and rainstorms. Features superb Pacific Rim cuisine, exotic drinks, and dancing Wednesday through Sunday.
Cafe Cento - Offering homemade pastries, Tuscan-style sandwiches, and a tantalizing array of salads with a view of the city’s iconic cable cars as they pass by the landmark hotel. Guests can return the same way or put their bikes on passenger ferries departing from the town of Sausalito across the bay and travel back by water to the recently restored Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, one mile from the hotel.
Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. This hotel was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and provided great service. The area is a little out of the way...the only places for coffee or breakfast are the hotels. I would not however recommend eating in the Tonga Room at the hotel. I was served raw chicken...on top of that the waiter mistakenly thought I was a tourist and tried to tell me that raw chicken is normal!

Our room was very nice, thought the bathroom would be a little bigger? Sunday Brunch in the Laurel Court Restaurant was great. Tonga Room had dancing and great atmosphere at night. Caffe Cento for a quick breakfast on the Powell St. side of the building. Easy access to the cable car going north/south and east/west (California St). It's a classic!!

I stayed at the San Jose Fairmont and it was a great experience. People were friendly and outgoing. San Francisco Fairmont lacked that, The bell man was not very friendly and my room was missing its robes and the Mp3 was not working. the condition of the room wasn't what I expected after staying at the San Jose Fairmont. The San Jose Fairmont is much better. Also I ate dinner in their restaurant and the food was overpriced with a limited menu. My espresso was cold and the waiter could barely speak English. No one seemed to really care about the customers much.

Internet access is not complimentary...this seems ridiculous as you are able to stay at a Motel 6 nowadays with free Internet. When paying the large fee for access, it does not work in the room and you have to sit in the lobby with all of the background noise. In every other way this hotel is outstanding. Time to join the 21st Century.

We booked the Kashmir Suite (Balcony Suite) in the main building. When we arrived at the hotel at 5:30 p.m. our room wasn't ready. The front desk staff was apologetic and took good care of us by seating us in the lobby bar and providing drinks on the house until our room was completed. The old landmark hotel is very well maintained. Lobby is grand, the hallways have new carpeting. I was a little disappointed when we stepped into our suite. I was expecting a better appointed and larger room for the price we paid per night. The listed square footage includes the balcony. The living room area was a little worn looking, and the small couch doesn't open into a bed. The separate bedroom was more of what I expected in an elegant grand hotel; the bed beautifully canopied. The bathroom is small and lackluster. The toiletries provided were one of the nicest I've seen in a 4-5 star hotel. The best part of the room was a large wrought iron balcony. Through the most part of our stay it was cold, we had to wrap up to go outside on the balcony. The view was amazing with the Transamerica building, downtown, and the bay beyond. The nighttime views were even more breath-taking. The balcony made up for what the room was lacking. Room service is extremely expensive--what you expect at this level of hotel. However, the room service staff wheeled the cart onto the balcony for a sunny last day breakfast. The staff is fantastic at this hotel; from the front desk, in the know concierge (got us sold-out theater tickets for a steal)and the best dining times, bell men, valet, etc. The hotel's location was very good. We didn't find walking too difficult being on the hill; as some of the reviews state, and if you tire, you can always hop a cable car. The two cable car lines intersect at the hotel. All in all the hotel grew on us working its grand elegant charm. A truly romantic stay in San Francisco.

Well worth the money. Keep in mind that parking is $57/day, not included in the room rate. Oh, and check your final bill: the only really annoying thing that happened is the trigger-happy cleaning staff who reported that we were drinking our $9 bottles of Evian water when in fact we only moved them from in front of the TV to the desk. Dag, yo; who's dumb enough to fall for that one? It puts a black mark on what would otherwise have been a pristine experience.

The lobby really is as impressive as the photo. The room was... compact, but with high ceilings it felt quite spacious. The bed was probably the softest I've ever slept on. As my visit was short and I spent little time in the room, the main factor for me was the level of service, which was excellent. A speedy check-in, help with finding tourist attractions and a place to eat and drink, luggage check and the ordering of a shuttle to the airport - all done in a very friendly manner.

Unbelievable view from the tower deluxe room overlooking the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, and even the Bay Bridge (if you smash your face up against the glass...). Everything was awesome except for when a guest? employee? opened the door to our room at around 9pm while I was standing in the hallway nekkid. The unexpected visitor was more surprised than I was, I'm sure, and immediately shut the door. It was a bit strange, but not cause for much alarm. The view, the comfortable bed, the nice bathroom... made it an extremely positive experience nonetheless. Everybody should stay here at least once in their lifetime.

We truly enjoyed our stay there. We had an upgraded room with a view, which allowed us to see the fog settling and rising over the city and Alcatraz. The only drawbacks were we couldn't find a little restaurant in the area that served breakfast, and there weren't enough options on their breakfast menu for a small breakfast. The price for breakfast and amount of food was exorbitant. We also found that the signage for how to find the Tonga Restaurant and even their cafe were poor. The hotel itself is beautiful and located amongst some fabulous buildings in a quite posh area. The staff is considerate and efficient and the room we were in was extremely comfortable. The only improvement that we would like to see is an upgrade on some of the workout machines (specifically the treadmills) and the hours of the facility on the weekends...7-7 does not work for us to workout...more like 5:30 - 10 is better. But as this is my only area of complaint for this hotel, it is minor compared to its greatness...

About 1/2 hour later, they called & said they determined that room had a thermastat that can't be fixed, they are waiting on a part, so I could stay in it or they would be happy to upgrade me to a tower room & air conditioning working! They sent the bellman up pronto to move my luggage. Same city view from the upgraded room in the tower.
