"Affordable Stay near DT"
For an economic stay near DT Portland, I've used this hotel 5 times now. Parking is $15/night, and the rooms are a little run down with wi-fi that goes in and out. But the room is fairly spacious and the complementary breakfast is a plus. As it is close to PSU, there are several food trucks down the block and options for dinning and drinking as well. […] Easy access to the freeway is also a plus. I will continue to use this hotel until another affordable option pops up. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Next to Portland State University"
Great location, warm breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Would definitely NOT stay here again. It's really gross.Genuine Expedia guest review
I read a bunch of the negative reviews, and I wasn't expecting much. The hotel was much better than I expected. Very convenient location. Room was clean. A little old, but it was just fine for the price and our needs. Breakfast was very good. Our room was close to a busy road, and we could hear cars passing while we were in the room. But it wasn't loud […] enough to ask for another room (I'm sure other rooms are quieter). Is it a fancy hotel? Not really. Is it a terrible place to stay? Absolutely not. We left happy. I never write reviews, but I feel this is one I can't let go. I booked this hotel because it fit within my business budget. Sadly the dollar amount was the only OK part of my stay. This was truly one of the dirtiest and run down hotels I have ever stayed ... and I have traveled all over the world. The carpets look like they have never been cleaned. […] The walls are dinged and dirty. The room was a descent size but that too, was not terribly clean. The sheets seemed ok, but I was so freaked out about the carpets that I couldn't get comfortable in the room. The bed was also as flat as a pancake and sagged in the middle. Luckily I have a good sense of humor and said to myself... "It's not a marriage! It's only for one night!!" I will say the people at the front were nice enough, but I DID NOT get the great cookie everyone keeps talking about. Even if on a budget, keep looking. I'm sure there is something else in the area that is reasonable and in much better condition. Sorry University Place... this was an epic fail for me!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was clean. Good prices considering the area it's in. Very close to the waterfront and city center. We walked and rode bikes everywhere we went.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sorry, try another hotel"
The room we checked into smelled like urine. We switched rooms after two days. That room didn't stink but the bed covering was badly stained and carpet was no cleaner. The sheets were not fitted - I woke up sleeping on the bare mattress. The heat system was noisy and did not work on a thermostat. The hotel needs a serious facelift - new carpeting, new […] bedding, new HVAC, and attention to the details. The breakfast was OK, not great. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The only small negative was a smoker in the next room that kept breaking the no-smoking rule, it took three complaints to have it stopped. A minor flaw in an otherwise excellent stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was good, very very close to downtown Portland and all other surrounding areas which was super convenient. Rooms were tiny at best but clean. So yes for the price, area and convenience I would gladly come backGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great little hideout"
Great place for a quick stay, comfortable rooms. Rates are good compared to downtown PDX.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Totally happy here"
great balcony, CLEAN room, empty fridge for food storage. amazing four bar T-Mobile 4g lte 50mbps connection. easily streamed netflix through my phone to laptop. free breakfast is fantastic and the coffee was strong. toilet a bit slow took 2 flushes and wifi was difficult to get on... other than that a tight room at a very low rate! nice 20 min walk […] to cool downtown restaurants, for those who are fit! "Good Deal forvDowntown PDX"
Good accommodations for a good value. Hotel is in need of an update but was fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice place, very good breakfast included, central location, helpful staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfy and Convenient"
There's a complementary cookie at check-in. The wi-fi is courtesy of PSU and it's better to sign up via email rather than text. The room is comfy and the staff is friendly. Overall the location is great, it's near the Green and Yellow MAX lines.Genuine Expedia guest review
Will not recommend to friends. Front under construction. Unsightly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A Little Old, But Good"
Close to downtown, great for walking the area. Everything is a little old in the hotel, but not rundown. GREAT Breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel and great location."
Our stay was very good except the employee that checked us in dropped my credit card behind the computer, in a hole, and it took about 20 minutes to get it out. He was very apologetic.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Lousy in every way."
Where to start? The front desk staff was rude. Our room didn't have many of the advertised amenities (Wi-Fi, fridge, microwave, etc.) because unbeknownst to us, they have "regular" and "deluxe" rooms and we didn't get a "deluxe" room. Which is not to say that the "regular room" was acceptable as anything at all.... the remote for the TV was broken; […] the room was smaller than small; we had to journey all over the hotel to find a functioning ice machine; and the room itself provided a wonderful sound system - the freeway, all night long. Except for the incredibly rude breakfast cook/server who kicked me out of dining room for being a little late, breakfast ends @ 9:30 sharp. overall it was 2/5. Won't be returning.Genuine Expedia guest review
Good value for Downtown property. Convenient to transit. Friendly staff. Not luxurious but at 1/3 to 1/2 less than other Downtown hotels, a good choice. Biggest complaint- stained carpet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Started off a little dicey, the TV remote wasn't working, staff had to program it (this should have been done a long time ago), but staff was quite helpful and handled in a timely manner. Room was clean, no fridge, just very basic. My key card didn't work a couple of times, probably due to being too close to my cell phone. Not sure why the hotel can't […] just provide wifi throughout, but at least the room had Ethernet. Generally OK, very convenient for the workshop I attended. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay, but don't expect much"
Hotel is severely dated, the bath tub was peeling, and the decor was grungy and dark. But hey, free cookie at check in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dingy, moist room"
Dingy room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, rooms were dirty"
Great Location, rooms were dirty though, entire cleaning staff was yelling another language out in hall for most the morning, ok for the price I guess, that's about it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"super Value for your money"
Rooms show some wear but the staff's enthusiasm and competence overcome that. Price was excellent for a downtown hotel and I had no trouble getting a room on short notice. Outstanding bar with four IPAs on draft (and some other beers).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A few days exploring Portland"
Hotel was conveniently located to Tri-Met system buses and MAX line. Was able to travel to museums, zoo, downtown, easily and even to a playhouse on other side of river.. Location of car rentals was convenient for departure needs. When we arrived into our ro the fridge was unplugged. When my husband went to plug it in he found a dirty pair of Mens underwear behind it. Gross! Also the bedspread had some sticky subsrance stuck to it. Not very cleanly!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel itself was gross and run down, the location was ideal. Stores, restaurants, bars were walking distance. I would NOT stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Needs customer service training."
Old place with precocious college kids at the front desk that aren't so bright. Not really service oriented. Clean however, and food location.Genuine Expedia guest review
Old and run down dump. You even have to pay an extra $15 to prk at the hotel. I will never stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"not at all"
Room was ok. Walls very thin---- noisy. Front desk not very helpful, with information ie: location of restaurants, street car schedules (first time in Portland), had to figure things out ourselves. ( ages 77.and 81)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Staff is excellent"
The hotel is a little dated and if you are coming from downtown, can be a little tricky to get to. It is a cinch from the interstate though. Hotel has a great pool and courtyard which is unusual for an urban low rise Hotel. Kudos to the staff. Every interaction I had with them was very good; more indicative of a higher priced Hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean room with AC, no complaintsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
For the price, you get what you should expect. Biggest negative I Internet service. Wireless does not reach the rooms well. They have a 2 foot land line you can plug into but then your computer is stuck right next to the tv. Also, rooms are just out dated. The crew was working every morning to keep the outdoor pool and common areas clean, and free breakfast […] was very good. Location is good if you don't mind a little walking. I would stay there again if my budget restricts me from staying elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Bathtub looked moldy. Even the gym looked like it had not been vacuumed in a week.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I'd stay again. Good price and a bed to sleep in. Nothing fancy but just what I was afterGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Service & clean"
Overall this hotel was just O.K. The service was great, the lobby was very clean and nice. The lounge/restaurant was a dive, walked in and walked back out. The rooms were clean but you heard everything from flushing toilets to the slamming of doors-the noise was the worst!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"i will stay again"
hotel has good layout.. and a fantastic "free" continental breakfast... overall condition of room was very livable.. 1 light switch on wall was broken... and heater/ac unit was well worn, missing controls.. but it worked.. some of the staff (2 males front desk) weren't very friendly.. the rest of the staff were very outgoing and willing to offer any […] assistance.. "Don't Stay Here"
This hotel is very dingy. Dark and not very clean. In need of some major renovations. I felt as though I was staying in a college dorm. Not good for business travelers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nothing special hotel."
Very well located. Not a fancy hotel. Just to sleep, but not complains. Staff is not friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent place to stay"
overall, a decent place to stay in Portland. Close to downtown and transportation lines, okay American style breakfast, and friendly staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
Customer service and the maintenance and cleanliness of the rooms need improvement.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, but could use a little update"
We had a pleasing 6 day-stay in this hotel. Nice hotel staff, clean & comfortable room although room features could use a little update.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The reviews I read seem petty!!!"
The hotel is dated , but the it was clean , the staff was helpful, excellent location to downtown , pearl district and many pubs and resturantsGenuine Expedia guest review
Location is convenient to my office when I visit Portland. Rooms are clean but very dated and beat up. Its a place to sleep and not much else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel circuitous to get to. Drove, but did not walk much in the neighborhood. Area good, not too hectic, close enough to downtown to walk. Close to University.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value, convenient location"
Good value, convenient location, excellent free breakfast for a hotel, nothing fancy though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was quiet and comfortable. The front desk staff were pleasant. There was no microwave or refrigerator in the room. I also wasn't expecting to pay for parking so I was a little surprised when I was told parking was not included in the price of the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could have been cleaner and updated furniture/tv"
Television was an old styled tube. No fan in the bathroom. Room and bathroom floor could have been cleaner upon new guest arrival.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good price for the location"
Hotel is about 2 blocks from a MAX light rail stop, so very convenient to get around Portland. Right on the PSU campus, walking distance from farmer's market. I've stayed at two other "budget" hotels in this area and The University Place is head and shoulders above those other options. Not as nice as hotels in the downtown area, but rooms were clean […] and staff was friendly and price is probably half that of downtown options. Hotel is dated, but free breakfast options were better than most places in this price range. Would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
