"Gave this place one too many chances"
We've stayed here several times because it's in a convenient location (walkable to downtown area, easy to park) and it's dog friendly. Last time, the heater/AC unit was really loud, the time before people outside were really loud. We figured those were just freak occurrences. This time the ENTIRE hotel's heating system was busted. Our room was 80 degrees. […] When we got back to the room around 11 after turning on the AC and turning the thermostat all the way down for 2 hours and it was still 80, we called the front desk and were told that we should have been told not to turn on system at all at check-in. They couldn't change our rooms because all rooms had the same issue. Anyway, we've given this place enough chances. This was a terrific find in Missoula. Loved the city, of course, and also found the Red Lion Inn to be equally charming. Not a chain hotel, so had that charm already. We were only planning on one night but got a good deal on the price so stayed longer to enjoy a little bit of missoula. It works well for us because of the proximity to my Dr. office, we don't have to fight early morning traffic and find a place to park. The rooms are clean, except the maid came so early one morning we weren't ready and never came back […] again so didn't get cleaned or towels restocked that day. We were pleased with our check in and the friendliness of the staff but were disappointed that our room was cleaned. I stayed one night for a enroute, arrived late. The hotel is an easy walk from St. Patrick Hospital as well as old downtown Missoula which features many restaurants. This is a reasonably comfortable motel which was near every place we wanted to go. Staff was very helpful in giving us directions to needed shopping and a good restaurant. Only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that the room is fairly small. Some basic amenities (water glasses) had to be stashed in the armoire because there was not space anywhere […] else - had to call the front desk to find out if they had glasses. "The best night on a long roadtrip"
In driving from Toronto to Vancouver, I decided to cut through the US. I stayed at a variety of "under-$100-per-night" hotels along they way, and the Red Lion in Missoula was easily the best of the whole trip (total of six nights in hotels). The fresh coffee and teas in the lobby were a really nice touch, and the hot breakfast was just what I needed […] to kickstart my day. The room was clean and fresh, with nice toiletries and soft towels, and the bed was super comfy. The staff were able to recommend a great local restaurant for dinner, and point me in the direction of coffee in the morning. I'll definitely stay here again if I'm ever in Missoula! For $120 I don't expect 5 star amenities, but I do expect cleanliness. I found dirt on my pillowcase and someone else's short dark hairs in the shower (my hair is long and blonde so no mistake). Stayed here for a fishing trip. It was hot out in Missoula and the AC was cranked up in the room when we showed up which is nice. Staff at desk were nice, informative, and efficient. Did expect more from a Red Lion faculty . Room had been "spot cleaned". A little elbow grease goes along way. "needs attention- maintenance and cleaning"
it was the most expensive hotel we stayed on our trip and in the poorest condition. Not run down, just not maintained. We booked a total of 3 rooms and 2 had broken air conditioners. (I also heard other guests complaining of the same problem). The staff tried to be helpful but it did not solve the problem. One of the rooms had dog food on the carpet […] and the coffee pots in all 3 rooms had not been emptied of grounds or old coffee. The hot tub was also not clean or in a working condition and was roped off. I was disappointed that the actual lodgings were not better although the staff was helpful.
