The location was great. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The only issue was no A/C in the room and it was very warm. I spoke to the manager and unfortunately in Montana it had been snowing the week before and they hadn't switched the system over to have A/C yet. Over all we had a good experience at the Red Lion. Our original plan was for Sunday night for an early morning Monday apt. We decided to go a day early and they were very accommodating. Two separate stays. The first okay. A very dated motel, but clean. The second stay was less than adequate. To open the door required using your shoulder to force it open. The only thing that really bothered us on our stay was that the manager knocked on our door and opened it around 930 am. "Would have been ok, but for the HEAT!"
While the room was tastefully decorated and the beds were comfortable, the room itself was HOT! Even though the heater said "off", it was hot in there. There was a stand alone AC unit which I turned on. It said it was 74 in our room. After a very hot and uncomfortable night trying to sleep, when I got up, it was 81 in the room! And te LOUD AC unit had […] been running all night. And I could still feel heat coming from somewhere in teh room. My son finally figured it out. There was an exhaust tube running behind the curtains and the window was closed. Which meant it was exhausting HOT aire back into the room faster than it could cool it off. They should have instructions taped to the AC unit, there were no instructions! When I told the woman at the front desk she said the maid should have had it set up properly and was sorry for my inconvience. That's it. And finally even though the room was clean, when I went to take a shower in the morning there was a used wash cloth in there and a bar of used soap. Higher marks would've been given except the heat ran on high our entire stay when it was an unseasonably balmy 65 degrees outside. We contacted the front desk and they were very helpful, immediately bringing a portable A/C unit to our room, but running it was so loud that it was hard to sleep at night. Generally very nice people - Alana and Sara - to name two. Met Emily, the housekeeper on our way out, she was delightful too. On Sunday morning, I asked if a document related to leasing a home could be scanned and e-mailed, and was assured it would be. After checking back repeatedly during the day every 90 minutes or so, I was told "in just a few minutes". […] By 4:30pm, I was told to go to a FedEx/Kinko's to do it myself. I did. The next morning at ~ 9:00, I got an e-mail confirming that the document had been scanned and faxed, almost 24 hours later! That didn't do me any good. I also reported a live bat hanging just outside our room door (unit # 139), and it was still there on check-out, nearly two days after I reported it. Lastly, the sole desktop PC available for guests went dead during our stay. When I inquired as to when it would be replaced, I got a vague reply "we ordered a new one, I don't know when it'll be here". No offer of an alternative at all. The customer service at this hotel was horrible. I had a problem with the reservation and tried to talk to the manager. I was told that I was "lucky" that the manager was there that day. This was at about 4 or 5 pm on a Sunday. The person at the front desk took my name and number and told me the manager would call me within the next 15 minutes. 30 minutes […] later with no call from the manager, I called back. The manager told me she would have to call me back in about 5 minutes. About an hour later with no call back I called again and the manager told me she had a line of people at the front desk and she sent her front desk worker on a break so she would have to call me back. Before she could do that, I quickly explained the situation to her and she said she would call me back. A couple hours later with no call back and I could see that there was no point in trying to get the money back for the one reservation/cancellation fee, so I sent the one soldier who had a reservation there to that hotel while the other five of us went to another that could accomodate us. The problem here was the fact that I was "lucky" that the manager would be there, the fact that I was repeatedly told I would get a call back within a specified time and never got one call back, EVER! That is horrible customer service. You might not have been able to solve my problem, but you could have at least listened to it, and that never happened in this situation. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. My room was fine but it was not ready at 3 pm. The desk clerk was faced with many travelers waiting for their rooms that he could not produce. He did keep his cool and was polite under less than perfect circumstances. The hot tub was promised to be usable but it was not open. They could use more ice machines.
