Had a kind of odd room. Windows looked out over a flat rooftop so they wouldn't open. They offered to move us the next night but we opted to stay where we were. Great that they allow dogs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, not so nice area"
My wife and I were on vacation with our little dog when we stayed at the Red Lion in Eureka. The staff were very friendly. The room was clean and a very comfortable size. Plenty of room to move around in. This wasn't the case in the hotel we stayed at the night before. The only thing is they didn't offer breakfast with the room, but did have a restaurant […] we choose not to eat at. My only criticism is the location. It's in an older part of town. The hotel itself is nice, but many of the surrounding building were somewhat run down. I got stopped a couple times in the parking lot by transients asking for food or money. They had a doggie pick up bag dispenser and signs asking patrons to pick up after their dogs. Unfortunately, some of the people staying at the hotel didn't think the signs applied to them. I don't fault the hotel for this, but it would have been nice if they had someone check around the hotel. Overall, it was a nice stay, I would probably stay there again. "Short walk to Lost Coast Brewery."
The Red Lion is getting a facelift. The lobby looks fantastic! Customer Service is helpful and friendly. It's short walk to Lost Coast Brewery for dinner and a beer. We did not have the breakfast, but our son did and he enjoyed the meal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel but.."
The hotel was nice and the staff was also nice, however they did over charge me and that took awhile to get the bill sorted out Worse than that was the prowlers in the parking lot looking in cars, two men appeared to be not all with it were prowling around and since we arrived there around midnight it was a little unnerving to unpack my little ones […] and our belongings from the car with them, I then called the front desk once I got to our room and they had security go out, I have to say I was real nervous my car would be broken in to by morning Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Musty, good price, close to everything, & worth it"
We've stayed at the Red Lion before in Eureka. The experience was consistent as last time's. We choose this hotel over our usual Hampton Inn off of Giuntoli due to price per night and proximity to the corridor. A few things could be worked on at the hotel. Don't get me wrong though, this is an excellent place to stay on a budget compared to some sketchy […] locations down the street. Scores average as far as service goes. The front desk was fairly friendly, but don’t engage with their customers. Other than the two interactions with the front desk, that's all we encountered. There is some Humboldt funk going on in the hotel rooms though. For a semi-older hotel with so-so ventilation you have to expect some mildew. Our room was clean, but smelt musty. No mold visible though. I turned our fan on to bring in room temp filtered air in. It did the trick. We had a king room facing the bay to avoid traffic noise along Broadway. The room was quiet, very comfortable (aside from the mustiness), and worth the price. The location is perfect for those traveling or on business. We've lived in Humboldt for years and come back a few times a year to visit. Where the hotel sits it is close to a lot of attractions, easy access to the corridor to get to Arcata, and a straight shot into Old Town Eureka. I wouldn't walk around at night by yourself per se, but the parking lot is safe, and if you’re with a buddy you should be fine. Overall: recommend. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Much better than expected. Hotel has been remodel and they did a great job! Only problem was my bike, which was securely lock, was stolen. Police said that this was a major in Eureka. Would like to single out Brook in the dining room. She was GREAT!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
this was once a gem but the area killed it and so did the transient population.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very disappointed. We have a small dog. The Red Lion's pet rooms smell terrible, like animals that were not supervised properly. We are not all irresponsible pet owners. Charge a greater refundable fee, for any damage done after a pet owners stay. We will never stay at this chain again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Our Doggie's first Getaway"
I am always weary booking a hotel that I've never stayed at and I'm alway grateful when I make a good choice. The rooms were very big, nice and clean. The staff was friendly. This was the first time we traveled with our little dog and I was afraid we would have to stay in a less than desireable hotel. But thankfully they allow pets!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dogs deserve better!"
Standard, nothing special. Lucked out with a suite - but another "pet" room that could have been cleaned better. What's the deal with these "pet" rooms? We don't trash rooms because we travel with our two dogs - so why should we have to stay in rooms that were left dirty by others?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel was okay, nothing special."
While the hotel was pet friendly there is a nominal charge of $15 which was not noted at time of online booking. Also, hotel fee did not include a breakfast. There would have been an additional $11.95 fee for myself and my wife. In the future, I'll seek other accommodations.Genuine Expedia guest review

Everything was clean and comfortable. My only comment is that their heater unit made an annoying click noise like the fan was hitting something loose inside.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A good place to sleep, but not to hang out."
We have stayed here a number of times while visiting family in Eureka. The rooms are comfortable, if dark, and the neighborhood is not great. If you are looking for a place to sleep and not much else than this is a good place to stay. The beds are very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ask for the bay view."
Stayed for 3 days over Christmas. The king bed was the best ever! Great view of the bay from the third floor. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, flat screen, and extensive breakfast. My only complaint was the electrical outlet was so worn it wouldn't hold my laptop cord.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A nice place to stay."
Just a quick overnight as we returned from a trip. The hotel was an older one, but the room and bed were very comfortable. I would stay here again, and might, as Eureka seemed that it might be a good place to explore.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This was just an average hotel not really next to the beach but it worked as we passed through. It is more than likely one of the best hotels in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent, clean, friendly"
Too bad the hot tub was closed. I'd prefer a thermostat in the room rather than controlling the heater directly. Breakfast was OK. Wouldn't be worth the 12.50, but it came with the room and was edible.Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed one night. We've stayed at many other hotels/motels in Eureka over the years. This stay was the best and we will return there in the future. Only downside...spendy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good mid-range motel-I would stay again."
Front desk staff was very courteous and helpful. I was happy to learn that they sell a few select fresh dairy and food items right up at the Front Desk so that we could have healthy snacks in our room--and fresh milk with our coffee. Room was pleasant, bathrooms better. However, the property does have a problem with vagrants loitering in the parking […] lot. In the space of 12 hours, I was hit up for money three times while going to our car to retrieve things. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"90th Birthday Trip"
The hotel is located in a great location, close to downtown Old Town Euerka, and major highway 101. We were in town for a family emergency and the hotel was very accommodating with our changing schedule. The room was clean and a good value for the price. This is one of the oldest hotels in Eureka, but they have done great renovations and it did not feel dated. Hotel staff was great. The staff in the dining area at breakfast seemed flustered and not […] particularly cordial. The Sunday Night Football staff was much more friendly. I would certainly stay here again. "Good find in Eureka."
Loved the spacious room. All the hallways and indoor premises are clean and nicely decorated. No room service. But full hot self serve all-you-can-eat breakfast for $8.31 is a great deal. Casual dinner at the hotel lounge can be made to go, and not too pricey. Cigarette smokers at the outdoor pool/hot tub. Occasional vagrant wandering the parking lot. […] Nonetheless, we'll be looking for other Red Lion hotels, all in all we really liked staying here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worked well for us"
It was nice to find a pet friendly hotel in Eureka. My wife was worried about staying at Red Lion saying that they are usually pretty run down and kind of sketchy, but this place was quite nice. "Nice, quiet place to stay in Eureka."
Booked thru Expedia, 2 queen bed 1 room. At check in they said it was only 1 queen bed. Not what you want on a daughter and dad trip. they "upgraded us to a 2 queen room for free". that is exactly what i asked for at booking. that being said, they gave us choice of 2nd or 3rd floor, either bay view or not. room was nice and big, flat scrren tv, limited […] cable channels, small fridge, microwave, coffee maker,( no creamer really?). "Worst experience ever"
charged me double what I was suppose to be charged, house keepers so loud in the morning to the point they woke me up by yelling at joking with each other. Found a tampon applicator under my bed. Gross! House keeper was rude when I was for clean towels. Hotel smelled overwhelmingly like perfume and carpet powderGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not up to Red Lion standards for the price."
Besides the lack of decent food choices, the evening check-in person was on the rude side even though I am a member of the rewards plan. No directions given for where the amenities such as the pool and gym were located, and had to ask for my complimentary water bottles. Later, I offered to help an employee as she struggled to push a loaded cart into […] the elevator but was rudely declined. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I booked through Expedia and when I got to the hotel, the person at the front desk let me know I had mistakenly booked a handicap accessible room. I agreed to switch with no issues and waited for a while as they figured out another room. At this time, they charged me again for the room without my knowledge. A few days later I noticed this charge on […] my bank account and called Expedia. They readily fixed the issue for me, which I really appreciated, but Red Lion should have not charged me the second time. They should be able to see the list of charges on their screen, which would make it obvious that I paid twice. Also, the bathroom had white powder on the floor and the bathroom lock was reversed, so you couldn't lock the door when you were inside, but could be locked into the bathroom from the outside. The hotel window did not open and looked out onto a huge air conditioning unit and rooftop littered with debris. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"It was just OK."
We had a decent experience. We explored the coast, so we weren't in our room that much. The area was a bit shady, our view could have been nice, if it wasn't backed up against a run down neighborhood, which included a smelly car repair garage. We ate at the restaurant for dinner the first night, food was good, atomsosphere, well, let's say lighting […] would have probably showed us something we may not of wanted to see. Very dark like a seedy bar, not a nice restaurant. They had a simple morning breakfast available for a reasonable price. It was buffet style. Just ok. We could see that this hotel could use some TLC. But the city of Eureka as a whole needed TLC as well, it wasn't thriving, it was just hanging on. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Better than what we were expecting"
I hadn't read reviews of the Red Lion prior to reservation and when I did I was scared. But although the area around the hotel is sketchy, the inside isn't bad. Clean and pretty quiet even with football teams and tour buses there. The room was clean and fairly updated. A view of the bay if you ignore the construction equipment behind the cyclone fence […] directly across the street. If you stay here, make sure you get a room on 3rd floor away from elevator and rear-facing away from 101 and toward the bay. These are the quiet rooms. The diner across 101 (Chalet, House of omelets) was really nice. The hotel is also trying to be green or at least appear ecologically friendly. But when they pass out PLASTIC water bottles at check-in and check -out, they lose the message. Overall, it wasn't bad and was better than I was expecting but I wouldn't stay here again. For the cost and the location, I would book something in the Old Town area. Downtown is too strange with people wandering the streets at all hours of the night for no obvious reasons. We even saw someone getting arrested a few blocks away at 10 Am on Saturday morning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
