"Old and run down"
Stayed here for our Redwood adventure and I am glad we spent a decent amount of time in the Redwoods. When we checked in the desk staff we very friendly and up-beat. Everything went downhill from there. The hotel looked old from the outside and the inside showed it as well. The carpeting looked a little old and the hallways were warm (a rotating fan […] was being used to try and cool off the hallway). Our room appeared to be decently clean, but the temperature control was terrible. The only way to cool it off was to open the windows and that gave it about a 20 degree swing from afternoon to morning. The neighborhood it was in was a lot of run down auto mechanics and at one time at night I saw somebody with a flashlight wandering through the businesses. The breakfast buffet was not good and the staff could not keep it or the plates and utensils supplied. We just needed a place to stay for one night while visiting Eureka. The Red Lion did not disappoint! Our room was cleaner than clean. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were so soft. The pillows were a little flat but nothing more than a call down to the front desk for more couldn't fix. The bathroom was larger than most with beautiful tile […] in the shower. Although housekeeping came around earlier than I would have liked, they were genuinely nice and gave us warm smiles and asked how our stay was going. Check-in was a breeze. There was a breakfast charge on our bill that wasn't ours but was removed at check-out without question. We had dinner and drinks in the bar, both were delicious. The first night my husband and I arrived we were given a room right next door to maids room and on second floor on side of pool which we could hear those in it very clearly with window shut at 10 at night. One night we arrived exhausted to hotel to find our card keys were deactivated. We did not get an apology for that just a new key. Hot tub was not in service for a night we decided to use it and there were no outdoor towels available for swimming. When we asked the front desk for towels he said he would get them after he had to service 3 other people checking in. We just didn't use the pool. The rooms weren't disgusting dirty but didn't feel really clean either. You can tell maids put in more effort than others. Ok to sleep in after about 3 beers or more. We stay at Red Lion Inns regularly and continue to not be satisfied with the condition of the hotel vs. the cost. The rooms were nice 10 years ago, but have not been updated for a while and it shows. The Red Lion Inn in Eureka has a restaurant and Bar, but they don't open until 5pm on the weekends. There is no other restaurants close unless you like […] fast food.
