Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles

I really appreciated finding a pet friendly hotel room last minute, the front desk staff was super friendly and helpful, but for the cost of the room I expected it to be cleaner- the 3 hairs on the toilet when we got to our room lead me to believe it wasn't even wiped down- yuck. Everything else was good.

I stayed here after doing some hiking in Olympic National Park. There are actually very few options for lodging in this town. As a result, I found the hotel to be a bit overpriced. That being said, the room was clean, comfortable, and spacious.

Our room would have been better except that the air conditioning did not work on arrival. However, the staff was able to fix it and thereafter the room was a bit small for us but otherwise adequate. The location was very nice, on the water, close to the ferry.

Stayed 2 nights. First night was a bit warm in room and the AC did not seem to be on, just blew air. I let the desk know the next day and they had someone in the room right away to fix the AC, which was blowing very cold air when we returned in the afternoon. The in-house restaurant was very good for both dinner and breakfast. Extra note on the guest services: were very responsive with addressing AC issue and also went out of their way to provide water hose, bucket & towels for washing vehicle when I asked. Some of the best customer service I've had at a hotel! Location: great location right on the water with an excellent long park walk along water, a sandy beach, and playground at the pier entrance. The hotel was generally fine, although the pillows were very small and strangely shaped. One was not enough and two was too much. The big problem with our stay was the hotel restaurant, the "Crab House." Leaving aside that there was no fresh crab in a place with that name, in the Dungeness crab capital of the world, the rest of the food was mediocre […] and the service was TERRIBLE! We waited 15 minutes for our server to take our order. We asked her to hurry with our appetizer as we were very hungry, but after a long day she brought it out with our entrees. Finally, after a long delay she short-changed me by five dollars. After repeatedly failing to get her attention, I had to go find her and demand the rest of my change. Everything was wonderful. The only way to improve upon it, would be to fix the computer in the hotel lobby. We needed a computer to get on-line and print our airline security passes. The computer had a virus. Not to worry, we ended up, on the way, at Office Depot in Sequim and printed the passes.

This is very nice place to stay! The hotel is close to ocean and has beautiful beach. when we walked around the beach, we also saw the beautiful snow mountain of Olympic national park. Great place! Their dinner is good too. Anyway, we will visit this hotel again.

The room was very clean with comfortable bed and new furniture. However, I was expected to get an ocean view from my window since this Red Lion stands along the shoreline. Instead I got the room facing the other hotel building so it was disappointing for a romantic getaway, not to mention overpriced (the restaurant on site was overpriced too).

When I reported it to the office, they did change our room but did not appear to be concerned with the issue The management never contacted me. The Red Lion is in the heart of Port Angeles and close to the beach. Some rooms have a balcony and some do not. Some rooms have a view of the ocean but ours did not, nor did it have a balcony. The buildings are pretty old and ugly.There are flaws in the paint everywhere you look. The buildings are an ugly brown color and the trim is red. Once inside […] the room, we got the feeling we were inside a very clean Super 8. For the money we expected a little more. The bed was super hard and I woke up with a lower back ache that bothered me all day long. All you get is basic cable channels and 2 encore channels. The tv's are in a nice credenza but they are the old school tvs. No flat panels here. The only thing that was really nice about the place was the bathroom. It had a granite counter and oversize shower head that can be switched from gentle shower to center full. I wish they had not stopped spending money after the bathrooms were remodeled and continued renovating throughout the room. The rooms include a coffee maker and coffee, tea, etc, and an iron and ironing board. When we stayed there, it was June 14th, they were doing construction on a section of the parking lot and the pool was covered with several awful looking tarps that were propped up in places. Needs a complete makeover to live up to the Red Lion standard. I probably wouldn't stay there again unless they lowered the price significantly. I know there are much nicer places in nearby Sequim for less money. Read more
