"Very good hotel, easy access"
We found Red Lion easily and it does front on a beach. Our room was on the second section with parking between the beach front section and the 2nd section. Our goal was to use this as the residence while we visited the Olympic National Park, and Victoria, Canada. We were successful on both. This was a convenient place to stay before catching the ferry to Victoria. I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms, and it was nice to walk the bike path before retiring for the evening. After complaints, the manager set us up in another room and and that night a drunk was pounding on the door next to ours for over 10 minutes. I arrived around 9:45 on a Friday evening and had to wait in line over 20 minutes to check in. There was a huge line of people who had just come from the ferry and only 1 person behind the desk who took a long time to check each person in (despite the fact that most rooms were reserved and pre paid). The room itself was okay and the location was fine. But the advertisement showed the picture as all units with "waterfront" and balconies. The room was titled "exterior" which only meant it was the back building. It had no view, no balcony, upstairs, no elevator. You get the picture. We won't stay there again. "Great access to the BC Ferry"
This hotel isn't the worst place I've ever stayed, but it's not great. The room smelled musty and moldy. There was a lot of mildew/mold stains in the bathroom grout. The carpet looked worn and dirty. The bed sagged in the middle. The housekeepers didn't replace enough towels or drinking cups. We ate at the Crab House restaurant our first night there. […] I would advise you to avoid it. I only had chowder and salad, but it was pretty bad. The chowder had big lumps of flour in it (I mean big, like the size of a cherry tomato) and the salad was well past its prime. The lettuce had an overall brownish tint to it. Yuk. The hotel sign said "We want to be number 1! Please rate us!" Well, I'm rating them, and they are defininately NOT number 1. "Musty but large"
Like mentioned in some other reviews, the hotel room smelled musty, and was generally humid. After a half an hour, we got used to the smell, but every time we came back to the room, it was very apparent. Its clear the hotel is quite old.
