"Great location, thin walls."
The hotel room was extremely small, but clean and well kept. The design was nice and all the furnishings were nice. Our room was near the elevator and we could hear the dinging throughout the night which was very annoying. We could also hear our neighbors and people in the hallway talking due to the extremely thin walls. The location is great for exploring […] Union Square and was close to the cable cars and the BART station. Those were big advantages for us. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this isn't it, but for the price it is okay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Terrific way to do SF"
Great location, comfortable, easy and plenty of thoughtful touches. Very European feel to the property. Going back for sure.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Hotel"
Stockton Ave closed for construction...frustrating because no one noted it. This was my first time in a SF hotel and did not know there was a parking charge for hotel parking. Both of these should be on the website.Hotel was close enough to walk to Orphium Theater and under $10 to take cab back. Staff was pleasant .We were really only there to change […] clothes and sleep. Price was reasonable and hotel was clean. We expected it to be colder inside hotel seems to be well insulated and the heat worked well. Overall, I would stay there again. "Very, very nice!"
This hotel is right in the middle of San Francisco!!! It is close to everything. Bathroom is a little small, but it did not matter a lot. If you have a car use the valet parking. Traffic in San Francisco, especially around the hotel is crazy. Parking is not too bad, $36 per day. Parking outside costs about$3.50 per hour. WE LOVED IT!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Love it!"
Great location. Old building, modern style. Love the room, love the clean and hygenic bedding, love the clean bathroom, shower was great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Christmas in SF"
Hotel Union Square is ideally located for someone wanting to be right in the thick of Union Square hubbub. Nice feel to the hotel, not generic. The beds were comfy and the rooms clean and well-appointed. Warning, if you are sensitive to noise, bring earplugs or this may not be the hotel for you.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great Location, Very personable concierge, service"
Cable car was out front on Powell street, Union Square and Macy's, one block away, ice skating rink one block away, Starbucks on every corner, Huge indoor lovely mall on Market and Powell 2 blocks away. Lovely stay. Concierge was extremely helpful and very personable. Wine bar at 5:00.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"good"
my second time stayed in this hotel . Perfect location and nice service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Waking distance to shopping on union square. Nice neighborhood good location, food and drinks on a block radius. Room was fairly small but more than enough closet space(you can fit at least 4 suitcases). Very friendly desk service. Very clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great location but walls are thin"
Great location. Provides easy access to cable cars, buses for getting anywhere else you need to visit. Rooms are spacious. Decor of hotel is very distinctive. Concierge was friendly and knowledgeable. Evening receptions with wine were welcome. But there's a distinctive musty smell on the 3rd floor where we stayed. And crucially, the walls are *thin*, […] involving you in the conversations and goings-on of your fellow lodgers. Boorish, profane, late sleeping neighbours like ours will force you to play the radio loud just to block the sound. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel for business travelers"
Although not used, complimentary services of beverages in the morning and afternoon are a nice touch to the excellent service. The hotel staff was very accommodating in a variety of needs including some last minute use of their business room before departing from the Union Square district. It was a unique experience staying in a hotel with a rich history […] in the Downtown San Francisco area. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Business Trip"
The Hotel Union Square is in the perfect location for shopping and convenience. The hotel is in the process of upgrading - but not so that it is overwhelming for guests. I liked the way they are blending the old with the new. Rooms are VERY small - but for one person or even a couple that wouldn't be so much of an issue. The bathroom was large which […] was nice and the closets were deep as well and had I been there for an extended period of time would have stored large suitcases easily. Hotel staff were very pleasant - asked me at time of checkin if I wanted a quiet room or a more lively room with street side windows. I chose the quiet room and it was quiet other than another guest that was walking down the corridor being loud. Walls are thin... but it's an old hotel and that comes with the territory. Unfortunalely the walls are paper think and you could here TV, talking, everything. We were woken up in 4:30 am Talking and then TV went on and we called front desk and TV still did not go off. Our son and daughterin law were in another room and were woken up their first night at 2:30 am to talking. They put padded headboards on the beds so I am sure […] they hope that helps. I am not sure I would be able to stay there again as I got so little sleep. Other than that we liked the hotel and location. "Perfect Location in San Francisco"
What a great find in downtown San Francisco near Market Street shopping and Union Square fun. Hotel is perfect combination of old character but with modern touches. Cannot beat the location. "Great Service and Location"
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great location in the in Union Square and very close to Macy's and Westfield mall. Very clean rooms, but they are a bit small. The bathrooms are small, with an extremely small sink and no vanity which is not very conveinient for four women. Overall it was a good stay and would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My room was completely enclosed, with no windows or hints of the outside world. The club next door playing Christmas music non-stop from around 7 to 11 each night added to the surreality of the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room had no real window and closet. The location was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"fine for business"
Stayed at this hotel multiple times; room decor is nice, but there rooms vary from large with street windows (cable car/street noise), to much smaller interior rooms with a 'window' to a fire-escape. Beds are good, lights, internet, TV etc. all in good shape.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A hotel that never sleeps!"
The hotel is perfect if your wanting a location in the center of union square, but if you want to be a part of a city that never sleeps you'll get your wish! I stayed 1 time prior and got a room with a view, but between the cable car and sirens all night, didn't get a lot of sleep. Just returned from this hotel last week and really forgot how truly […] loud it was. Asked for a room away from the street but it didn't much matter. No sleep the entire trip! "Good location"
Good location; not family friendly; a little noisy at nightGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unreasonable parking rate"
The fee for parking was $36 which I assumed would be for 24 hours similar to other hotels in the area. I checked in around 6pm and was told parking was only covered until 2pm the next day. Make sure when you consider the cost of the room, you add on the exorbitant price of parking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming boutique close to Union Square."
The lobby could use a bit of a spruce up. Seemed a little worn. The room and overall facilities were quite nice. Nice touch to have wine in the afternoon!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cozy room"
Unique hotel right in the middle of tons of shopping! The rooms are very small and very different than I have ever stayed in. The walls are thin so noise can be a problem. The hotel staff is great and we would consider staying again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Loved the location, loved the charm"
The biggest complaints I read prior to staying here were small rooms and noise. First of all, I got the Executive King. It was worth paying a little more in my opinion, for a better experience. I saw a small room as I walked by, and it did indeed look really small, but our executive King was perfect. Plenty of room, large bed, lots of space to move […] around. Next, the noise. We were on the 5th floor, and yes, we still heard the street noises, and I suppose if you were on the first floor, it would be worse. But come on, this is SMACK DAB in the middle of the busiest part of the city - I expected noise. It was nothing I couldn't tolerate and in fact, the hustle and bustle is part of the charm of staying in Union Square. The fan in the room blocked it out enough to have no trouble sleeping. Certainly a great location near everything, I parked the car and never used it again. The hotel itself is old-ish, but nicely upkept and I actually though it was charming. The staff was friendly, it was clean. I have no complaints at all, and would come back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Perfect location if you want to explore downtown SF. Close to good restaurants and street animations. Safe at night. The hotel is very charming with a film noir decor. The bad thing is: the room was very cold until they finally turned on the heat system after our 4th night. The room was also very noisy due to construction work outside the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming!!"
Small, yet satisfying. The daily wine reception soled my friend and I on this hotel! The rooms are very small, but comfy. I would recommend if you are not planning on being in your hotel the majority of the time.Genuine Expedia guest review

"It's unique"
A unique little boutique hotel right in the middle of everything. It's noisy outside (street noise from the trolley and outside hustle and bustle) but quiet inside, nice and a bit funky. The Thin Man plays continuously on a wall mounted plasma screen, in homage to Dashiell Hammett, who stayed here. Other decor fits the time period. Our room faced the […] interior courtyard and was quite small but nicely equipped and quiet. The staff are very helpful. The complimentary wine every evening was a great way to meet other guests. It's convenient to restaurants, shopping, Union Square, and more. I would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very good hotel at a very convenient location"
I visited San Francisco for a conference at Market Street. This hotel was very conveniently located close to Union Square, around many other major hotels and in the heart of the shopping area. It was within walking distance from most of the things I needed. The hotel was very clean, and the staff very nice. Good value for money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
""Disappointed hotel stay""
For the price I paid to stay in this hotel, I was very disappointed. First of all, there was no central air conditioning and the room was unsually small. The room was equipped with a window unit which yield a constant, annoying humming sound. This made it difficult to sleep. Most importantly, the room had no desk which I needed to complete work activities. […] The other furnishings you would expect to find in a quality hotel room were missing or scaled down. This included a small dresser, small nightstands, small vanity in the bathroom and only one chair. I am happy my husband cancelled at the last minute. Thus, it was only 1 disappointed guest instead of 2. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Location, Stale Rooms"
The location is superb, but the rooms are disappointing. They are cramped and lack adequate ventilation and light. The first room we were assigned had a strong smell, so we requested another room. A good hotel would regularly inspect their rooms and would have discovered the odor and remedied it. The parking attendent left our car unlocked and the keys […] in the car. That's unacceptable. They corrected it after we complained. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"It's ok..."
You honestly can't beat the location, you are steps away from the mall, restuarants and the Bart. But the rooms are incredibly small, although updated the window ac kept making a clicking noise that was bothersome, the mattress was uncomfortable as well. For the price I feel you are just paying for location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
