"tiny rooms and bed"
There were limited hotel rooms in San Francisco so I was pleased to stay at a Kimpton property. Unfortunately, the Hotel Triton did not live up to the Kimpton standard that I am used to. The bed was a super single and very uncomfortable. There was construction outside from 7PM until 4AM- the hotel was not very apologetic and unwilling to move my room. […] Very sadly- a terrible stay-! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, friendly staff"
My wife and I flew cross country to celebrate our 25th anniversary in San Francisco. First time either of us had been there so relied on reviews when booking our stay at the Hotel Triton. Overall a fantastic choice. Great location next to the downtown shopping district and Chinatown, and only a 20-25 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf area. The staff […] was super friendly and very helpful. Relied on the front desk a lot... directions for getting to Candlestick Park for a 49ers game, etc. Our room was not overly fancy but very clean. Each night when we returned it had been completely freshened up. Only small complaint was that the television was not the best but we still could watch ESPN and catch up on the day's sports news. Already planning a return trip next year when the new stadium opens and we will once again stay at the Hotel Triton. Just a great experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This was our second stay at Triton. We always stay at a Kimpton when we visit San Francisco. This hotel has a fun atmosphere. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and the free wine each night is a good time. The rooms are small, but sufficient for what we need. I'm sure we will be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

It was very homey.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a poorly renovated hotel. The rooms were tiny and very noisy. The elevators barely worked. I was there for 2 days and left my room at 7:30am on the first day and when I returned around noon, the room was still not cleaned. I paid almost $300 per night to stay at this mediocre hotel. The only positives was it wasn't too far from Union Square […] or Chinatown and the staff was very friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute hotel in busy downtown location."
Hotel was very fun and the staff was really great. We had an issue with some of the electronics in our room and they were on it right away. We even got a bottle of wine for the inconvenience. The best part about this hotel is the location, and it was also the worst part for us. If you book here, make sure you get a room on the back side on a high floor. […] I think this room was available on because nobody wanted to be over the busy street. There is LOTS of commercial activity on this street between one and three in the morning, and the people just don't care how loud they are. The bed was comfy, though and the room layout worked well. The amenities were nice, and I always love a nice, deep bathtub. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel in the Heart of San Fran!"
I stayed here for my visit to SF to run the Nike Women's 1/2 marathon! The pricing was awesome for such a busy weekend! The value was great as well-if you become a member you can get a credit for $10 out of the mini bar and free wifi! The room was small, but cozy. The daily wine reception was a great way to mingle in the lobby. I will stay here every […] time I come back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Downtown Spot"
All is well with the Triton, and I've stayed here several times in the past. My room was a bit musty and my allergies were triggered... possibly from the fan we decided to leave on at night (warmish outside). Probably needs a new filter. Otherwise great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
we had a great time in San francisco & the staff people were great! they gave up tips on where to eat & were very helpful with directions. We wish we had more time to stay there!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel close to everything!"
We stayed at Hotel Triton based on a recommendation from family who lives in CA. We wanted something unique and within walking distance to walk to most site seeing places (Alcatraz, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf) and this fit the bill! We were within eyesight of Chinatown and within a 30 minute walk to most everything else we wanted to see/do! The hotel […] is obviously a bit older, but in good condition for a hotel in downtown San Francisco. Rooms were sufficient, the beds were comfortable & we didn't hear any street noise. Although we can for a football game and were disappointed in the horrendous behavior of the 49ers fans, the staff at the hotel was fantastic! Joe, at the front desk, was awesome and very accommodating, looking up attractions/ information for us, and making recommendations for things to do/see in town. We would go back to Hotel Triton again if we're in the area, and definitely recommend it to friends. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"a lovely hotel!"
My friend and I were only in San Fran for one day, so we made the best of it by staying at the Triton Hotel. The hotel location is in a great area, across the street are the gates to Chinatown. The hotel was clean, the room was comfy and the front desk was extremely helpful. We ended up taking a bus tour of the city that ended right in front of the […] hotel, which couldn't have been more perfect. We were also exhausted from traveling all day so we didn't want to venture far for dinner and went to the hotel resturant, which was delicious as well. Great hotel, and location, I would totally stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cozy but comfortable, near major shopping"
The location of Hotel Triton places it in a very convenient part of town, which makes for an easy time getting around. It also means a fairly high ambient city noise level, even at night, and since the building is older, sound insulation is less effective. However, if one is choosing to be close to the action, a bit of nightlife sound is to be expected. […] The rooms are comfortable, clean, and on the small side, but this is also expected of an older structure. The decor is lively, the staff welcoming and efficient. Overall a pleasant stay. "Located in the heart"
The Triton is situated across the street from Chinatown's main gate. With its retro 60s decor, guests are made to feel welcomed with friendly and enthusiastic staff. Every afternoon you are treated to wine in the main lobby downstairs. The rooms are smaller than other ones we have stayed in, but you don't notice because the furnishings are comfortable […] and fit the 60s theme. You are within walking distance of many of San Francisco's gems including Chinatown, Union Square, the Stinking Rose, House of Nanking, and a fortune cookie factory. The drop on, drop off bus stopped at the front entrance, so we had no trouble seeing Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to Chinatown"
The hotel was in a great location, in fact about 50 yards from the grand entrance of Chinatown. It is a few blocks to the nearest trolley stop but it isn't a bad walk. Always felt safe walking around in the dark hours as well. If you are thinking of renting a car, you may want to re-think this as the parking is expensive downtown for overnight. The […] hotel offers valet but it was more expensive then the nearest hourly parking (which is open 24/7). All in all, the stay was good. The hotel sits on top of a French restaurant if that your thing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved it!!! Would stay here again, the staff was so helpful and nice. The only negative is that it costs $40 per night to valet park or $35 to self park, plus tax on top of that, therefore parking was $91+. There is just something not right about that when you are already spending almost $400 for two nights.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Response by Hotel Triton, a Kimpton Hotel Hi Traveler ~ Thanks for posting your review. I'm happy to hear that overall you enjoyed yourself, minus the A/C issue. To your point, that aren't often used. We have had some actual sun during the Summer months which is very unusual for us. I am sorry that you had to experience that. I hope it won't keep you from thinking of us again in the future. Hope to see you back , Antonio Flores General Manager
"Amazing!!! our new favorite spot"
The hotel staff is really as awesome as the rest of the commenters rated them. We especially loved the staff member that hosted the wine hour. We went in the summer and he also made fresh sangria and ensured that our glasses were always full. All the guests mingled in the lobby and it was dnamic to see. Most of the times we stay in hotels guests rarely […] have real conversations with each other (goodmorning and have a good night while sharing an elevator really does not count as a conversation.) I would describe the hotel decor as whimsical. It was very clean and just trendy enough to remind you that you are in San Francisco. The hotel is an older building, but not in a rundown sleazy way, but one that makes you appreciate the rich history in the area. Rooms are clean, well appointed and obviously recently re-decorated. When it's listed as close to China Town it is an understatement, it is across the street from the main gates. When I began the drive down the street, I was a little nervous.....but this is a very upscale area, with high end shops, bistros, classy pubs and restaraunts. Needless to say we had a great time every moment we were there and will be the only place we stay in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyable/ very friendly staff/central location"
I was there for work and from the time I checked in to out, I felt the staff very friendly and greeted me every time by my name (which they could only have heard once!). The minor downsides are it can be a little noisy at night as my room was overlooking the side-street where the dumpsters were. Convenient location, you can even catch the tram right […] outside the door. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel in decent location near Chinatown"
At a glance, it looks like a nice, boutique hotel. But the hotel interior, hallways and rooms look really run down and a bit dirty. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, but the hotel cost was way overpriced. I expected more for $300/night. Nice to have coffee and tea in the morning, but the coffee quality was not good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location in the heart of the city!"
We had a great 3-night stay at Hotel Triton. I have to say, I was a bit nervous booking the hotel based on other comments about the size of the rooms, etc. The rooms were small when compared to hotel rooms in other cities, but they were extremely well layed out and the four of us did not feel the least bit cramped. Everything was extremely clean and […] tidy. The lobby of the hotel is very small and not very condusive for spending time in, but luckily most people won't have to spend much time there. All of the staff was extremely helpful. The hotel is in a great location in the city, which made walking to different places a possibility. I would definitely stay at Hotel Triton again in the future! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"26th anniversary weekend made perfect by the staff"
Absolutely charming decor. Clean comfortable rooms. Perfect location. But that is not what we remember . . . It was how we were treated by the people working for this hotel. They were awesome. As we were checking in they asked us why we were here and so we told them we were celebrating our 26th anniversary. Well they upgraded our room to one with a […] view, top floor on the corner. "Funky, fun spot in a great locale!"
This is a vintage building which has been made-over with a funky, fun, colorful scheme. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the building was well-kept for it's vintage roots and price-category (for SF). The complimentary coffee and wine services were a nice touch. The location on the edge of Chinatown, a few blocks from Union Square […] and within walking distance of the Moscone Center is superb. Wifi was free if you have signed up for the Kimpton Hotels "InTouch" mailing list. The work-out center was small/limited, but at least it was something! (And, they had a yoga mat available in the room!) My only (minor) complaint is that the heating/cooling is controlled by window units with only on/off settings (no auto setting) and a warm/cold dial for control (vs. thermometer/temperature settings), so it took a night or two for me to get things evened out. "3 night stay"
The hotel is not traditional so it was nice to see something a little different. The staff was very friendly and the bed was comfortable. "Good value and Good location"
The hotel's decor was unique (part of the reason we booked it) and the hotel staff were very accommodating with any request we had. The location is literally across the street from the Dragon Gate and only a few blocks from Union Square, so the location is great. My only concern was that the hotel didn't have central-air but rather had window units […] in the hotel rooms; I understand that it's an older building but it still seemed odd for a hotel room that cost over $200. The hotel was very beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Although the parking was expensive, the valet service was efficient and quick. The immenities that the hotel offered very tastefully done: toiletries, coffee, tea, wine bar, and water. The only caution I would offer is to request a room on the China Town side, as the trash […] trucks emptied the trash bins on the ally side throughout the night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Super cute hotel"
Hotel is super cute with lots of fun colors and flare! Complimentary tea and coffee in the morning, cookies in the afternoon and wine in the evening. Wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. Location was great if you're doing something in the Financial District, theres some cute cafes close by but nothing late night. One major drawback was how loud it […] got at night. "Good location, friendly staff but small rooms."
Went on business trip, you can tell that the hotel is aged but that's part of its charm. Would recommend if you need a place to sleep but if a long part of your stay is in the actual hotel then I would recommend something a tad bit bigger. Close to chinatown and transportation, highly recommended.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good option near Union Square"
Room was clean and comfortable, staff helpful and a great location close to Chinatown, Union Square, etc. Lots of restaurants in a wide range of prices, etc. nearby. "Disgusting Experience in the elevator with maid!"
It was fine. I often stay in Kimpton Hotels, I like the atmosphere, but this one is not quite up to their normal high standards. The thing that really stands out in my mind is when I was going down to check out and leave, there was a maid in the elevator with a cot, taking up a lot of room at a very busy time. She was holding bedding that had obviously […] been soiled by someone, the stains sticking out there for all to see. She was wearing blue latex gloves and pushing buttons in the elevator. GROSS! "Friendly staff and convenient location"
We stayed in the Hotel Triton during last Christmas. The hotel is conveniently located in the downtown and very near to tourist attractions and public transport routes. The staffs were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and different in a good way. Even though the room was small you cannot expect more space at the heart of a big, expensive city […] for a low price. The hotel has a unique style of design/decoration. However, I have only one complain- the bathtub took some time to drain after taking a shower. Apart from that, we had a pleasant and memorable stay. I would definitely stay in Hotel Triton if I visit SFO again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
