"Classy hotel"
The Warwick Melrose differentiates itself from other upscale hotels in that it has something most others don't...history. We felt that as we walked into the hotel with the ornate carved wood marble topped furniture and marble flooring. The lobby showcases the intricate moldwork and ceiling. "Go to hotel for Dallas business trips"
The only reason I put a few lower scores was because there was a non stick pad in the bath tub that was started to unattach and it was sort of gross but that would be an easy fix if they just glue it back down. "Housekeeping needs better supervision"
The first impression was excellent, very good front desk service. When the elevator opened to take us to our room it was "yuck"! The metal floor under the door was very dirty. I could remove the dust/dirt simply by rubbing my foot over it. That never changed in the 4 nites we were there. At checkout there was a $24 parking charge, we didn't have a car! […] This was a prepaid reservation on Hotels.com. There was a water glass with fluid in it on the floor near our room and it was when we checked in and when we went out the next morning, even though a room cleaning person was just one door away. "Melrose Hotel in Dallas, Texas"
The Melrose is an old hotel in Dallas now owned by the Warwick company. I've known about it for years--I lived in Dallas from 1980-2008--and had visiting friends stay in it once around 1999 or 2000. They liked it very much. Before my recent trip to Dallas (7/17-7/20/2012) I checked online reviews of the Melrose, which were all good, and I also asked […] an old and dear friend to recommend a place for me to stay. He recommended the Melrose, and friends who visit him fairly frequently stay there and like it a lot. The hotel itself is fine, including the Landmark restaurant in the hotel, although I only had breakfast there. My only complaint is this: guests have to pay $24 plus tax per day to park at the hotel. I have never in my life paid to park in a hotel parking lot, not in Chapel Hill, NC, nor in upstate New York, nor anywhere else. Ever. I think asking hotel guests to pay for parking is a mistake, probably made by Warwick upper management in some faraway place, not untypical for execs. of corporations, who are disconnected from the point of contact between their business and the people it serves. This is a wonderful hotel to stay in, it is close to so much of the Dallas nightlife. Would stay here again, however the valet service at the hotel in mandatory and cost $25 a day. "Nice room, decent price, but lacks service"
Hotel is a partially refurbished Dallas landmark. I stayed in a "Deluxe Room" and was pleased with the overall size of the room, however the bathrooms are very small considering the age of the original construction. Women would hate the bathroom since there was only a pedestal sink with no room to set makeup, hair dryer, etc. Hotel seemed very understaffed […] and experience long line at reception. Aside from a tiny fitness center in the basement of the hotel, there were really no services consistent with a larger hotel. Not an ideal hotel for a business traveler, but overall a nice experience. Classic does not always been 'well preserved! The hotel is charming and very traditional and so very well located. As with any older property, maintenance needs to be more regular and frequent, as the plumbing in thermometers was rather atrocious. Air conditioner made a loud noise, room service has a 3 dollar service charge for anything and in addition has an included 20% gratuity. In general it is a "pay for everything" hotel. "Way overpriced, awful experience"
To put it simply, it was a nightmare. I spend a lot of money booking this for my sister's bachelorette party lingerie shower and for a few girls to stay over after dinner/drinks. It would be easier for me to actually list the myriad things that went wrong at this hotel. 1. Miguel at front desk: I called at 3 p.m. day of my stay to get my room number. […] Miguel put me on hold four times, rudely, before telling me they would assign me a room number when I paid. I had paid two months earlier via Expedia. 2. Tried to give me wrong room: Miguel, once again, also told me I had a king room when I actually booked a deluxe suite. When I told him that, he was again rude and argumentative and claimed Expedia had told them I booked a king. Luckily, Expedia came through, per usual, and handled it - it was, as expected, a mistake on the hotel's end. 3. Lied about valet costs: Inititally told me it was complimentary, then that it was $6 for overnight and $12 for short-term guests, then, when I checked in, Miguel (of course) told me it was actually $12 for short-term and $24 for overnight, and denied telling me differently just three hours earlier. 4. Said they would reserve a shuttle for us to go to dinner, and when I called to get it, they said it was tied up for 45 minutes. 5. "The quality of the service"
First off, this is a beautiful hotel, and the hotel.com price was great. We had a lovely two bedroom suite that was furnished very nicely. No complaints. The valet parkers and the staff in the Library Bar are excellent.
