Five Continents Bed and Breakfast - New Orleans

I am a walker so the short walks to most of my destination was a plus. There also was a bus stop right across the street for across town touring. Peter, the innkeeper, was affable and helpful and made very tasty breakfasts.

This B&B was my first experience with a B&B. From the 1st encounter with Peter & Walter the owners, they made us feel comfortable & safe. The Asian Room was clean, spacious & quiet. (shower was interesting but it is what it is, an older home & looks like it had to be "fit in" somewhere) We were given a set keys so we could come & go as we please & a […] gate button for the security gate so we could park our car safely in the driveway. We slept great in the quiet room(could not even tell anyone else was there), the sheets were very soft & my daughter slept in the pull out couch bed in the sitting room. There were plenty of blankets & we could adjust the temperature ourselves with the window A/C units in the room. Bathrobes were available, even a cork screw & wine glasses if needed & small fridge. The best part was the comfortable dining room with a gourmet breakfast cooked by Peter. So delicious & all included. There was even free Wi-fi if needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this original place. We were skeptical about the neighborhood at first but it is NOLA after all. We drove to the FrenchQuarter but it is within walking distance. This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast and it was great. The rooms were reasonably priced for their size and the breakfast that Peter prepared every morning was excellent! We took cabs to the french quarter most of the time for about $10, but the walk wouldn't have been terrible. Would definitely recommend it to others!

My wife and I stayed at this B&B for two nights following our wedding. We were a bit concerned by the location at first. While the location is convenient for touring New Orleans, just a block away are run down buildings covered with graffiti. Many homeless people were hanging around beneath the overpass, and other people were wandering around with threatening […] scowls on their faces. When I was leaving the B&B during the day to head toward the interstate, I noticed a woman wearing high heels and denim shorts cut short enough to reveal the bottoms of her butt cheeks leaning into the passenger side window of a nice new Dodge Charger which was stopped at the side of the street. Or course this is New Orleans, and many areas around N.O. are like that. It was comforting that there was a gated parking area. We stayed in the Asian suite. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The bed was big and comfy. However it is obvious that the building is old. The location of light switches makes no logical sense, and many of them don't work. It took us about 5 min to find the bathroom light switch. The sink is located in the living room area which is also odd. I had some trouble unlocking the back door of the room and the front door of the B&B house. Of course it didn't help that I was given 4 different keys, and none of them were labeled. Gracious hosts. Great rooms. Great complimentary breakfast. Great FREE gated parking--you get your own gate remote. The bed was a traditional inner spring mattress, but both my husband and I slept comfortably on the queen-sized bed even though we're used to a king-sized memory foam mattress. We stayed in the Asian Suite which is upstairs. Recommended attractions: Natchez steamboat tour, Oak Alley plantation (an hour's drive away), the Aquarium, St. Louis Cathedral & Jackson Square, Cajun Encounters swamp tour (they picked us up from the B&B), beignets at Cafe du Monde, the Riverfront Cafe on Decatur Street, New Orleans Museum of Art, and shopping in the French Quarter and at the French Market. This B&B was simply wonderful! It was very quiet in a neighborhood NE of the Quarter (though I-10 provided us with nightly sirens of EMT's on the way to Tulane Med Cntr). When you walk through the door you just stepped back in time. Beautifully decorated lower level. We had the "Asian Suite" which was the perfect size for my wife and I. The bathroom […] is a bit...uhhh...cozy, but no need to spend an inordinate amount of time in there anyway! Our host, Peter, was amazing. An extremely attentive and helpful man, without being intrusive. Breakfast was fantastic, eggs your way, juice, coffee, fresh fruit, etc. It was delicious. NOT recommended for families, as the artifacts would not be considered "kid-friendly." The room was beautifully appointed and Peter and his sidekick, Akko, made sure the mini-fridge was stocked with sodas and water and sweet tea. About a 1/4 mile walk to the Quarter and a short cab ride to the CBD. Stay at the 5 Continents and rest assured you will have the time of your life in the Big Easy (Also, we were there a week before Mardi Gras, and the neighbors along Esplanade "dressed" their houses for the occasion. It's just outside the French quarter, maybe 8 blocks to the middle of Bourbon St. but its safe to walk. Very clean, excellent breakfast, safe off street parking. I walked or took a taxi everywhere. Taxi to Bourbon St. is $7. Some hotels in the Quarter charge $30 or $40 a day for parking so be aware of that. Would definitely stay there again.

The neighborhood looks a little sketchy at first site but felt safe walking back at night. Not too bad of a walk to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. Jess was a wonderful host and we were very comfortable in his lovely home. The breakfast every morning was delicious. The house is approximately a 20 minute walk from the popular tourist area the French Quarter so you do need to catch a taxi at night but it only costs around $7. Would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Five Continents is gevestigd in een mooi opgeknapt mansion. De inrichting is helemaal in de oude stijl. Wij waren een van de eerste gasten van de nieuwe eigenaar. De verzorging, met name het ontbijt, was erg goed: specifieke wensen konden ingevuld worden. Probeer de gekruide omelet met spek: erg lekker! De eigenaar was verder ook erg behulpzaam bij […] het bezoeken van bezienswaardigheden. Het B&B ligt op een stukje lopen van French Quarter, dit is heel goed te doen. Voordeel is dat je 's nachts geen last hebt van lawaai e.d. Wij hadden de Eurasian suite. Deze is lekker ruim (bestaat eigenlijk uit twee kamers met een aparte badkamer). De kamer was prachtig gedecoreerd. In de koelkast staat frisdrank die je gratis mag gebruiken. Al met al hadden we een heel prettig verblijf en we kunnen Five Continents dan ook van harte aanbevelen. I have only great sings to say about this place. So worth the price I paid. The new owner are really friendly and helpful. Only a 5 minute cabride or a nice healthy walk from the French quarter. Breakfast excellent. The rooms are one of a kind. Beautifully decorated. I'll come back again for sure.
