"Good value in the heart of Anchorage"
I was in Anchorage for 4 days on business. The Westmark is right in the heart of downtown only a few blocks from the convention center, shops, restaurants, etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful. While on my stay at the Westmark I found the hotel to be satisfactory. The room was a bit small but I did not need much room. The thing I want to warn other customers about is transportation. I have come to expect any nice hotel to offer a free shuttle to and from the airport. When I called the Westmark for a shuttle I was informed they did not offer […] a free shuttle. The did give me the number of an independent shuttle service I could call and use. I did this and the pickup at the airport was only about 10 minutes. Not bad. The charge was $10.00. Guess the price of the room just went up. For my return to the airport I called the shuttle service three hours prior to the time I needed to leave and made a reservation for a pick up. At the appropriate time I went down to the lobby to wait for the shuttle. The front desk clerk told me he would double check with the shuttle service. After a quick phone call he told me they would be late and that that happened very often. I ended up taking a taxi to the airport. Cost was $20.00. If you decide to book a room at the Westmark plan on an extra fee of $20.00 to $40.00 dollars. Now if you are driving you may think your fine. Think again. I booked a king suite when I checked in they didn't say anything about not having the room I paid for when I walked into the first room it had two small beds that they called double beds which looked like two twin sized beds. So I complained they acted like it was my fault so they put in what they called a double queen which looked like two full sized. […] I have a queen at home and those beds aren't queen. I paid a for a nice hotel (based on the chain) in a convenient location. However, I could have selected a hotel two blocks over, paid less and would have gotten complementary breakfast and inclusive parking. We had to stay at the Westmark while a plumbing issue was taking care. We had spent a few nights at a "cheaper" hotel and had an awful experience (going to go to small claims court bad). Great location, close to shopping and restaurants. Parking was sparse, but there was a large public lot behind the hotel, you just needed a new parking pass each day to avoid being ticketed. The hotel was clean, quiet and comfortable but there is no mini fridge or microwave in your room or hotel. There are also no gas stations or grocery stores within walking distance. I enjoy staying at the WestMark hotel every time I go to Anchorage. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to make my stay a pleasant one. The staff was great. But the rooms were old and outdated. There was a smell that lingered. It was between this hotel and another expedia showed a special book this room amd bonus free shuttle it whowed a wrapped gift with "free shuttle" so I picked this one. I was very disappointed with my stay. The front desk called me at 10:30 a.m. and told me I was taking up two parking spots and I needed to move my vehicle. Really, the other two vehicles on both sides of me we're improperly parked. I just parked between them. They asked me to move my vehicle one way or the other. I did this which left only space for […] a bicycle to park next to me. I forgot to mention, I'm cleaning my car off in a snow storm. I asked the Security guard are we okay? "Yes, was the response. At 2:30 a.m. I get a call from the front desk, "you need to move your vehicle, your taking up two spots. I go down, they had changed shifts and obviously didn't communicate. They asked me to move my vehicle the other direction. This left enough room on the other side for a bicycle to park. I was very annoyed, because I had to wake up at 5:30- am to catch a plane.
