"Lied about free shuttle"
It was between this hotel and another expedia showed a special book this room amd bonus free shuttle it whowed a wrapped gift with "free shuttle" so I picked this one. After flying from Florida I arrived with a huge suitecase and small child. No shuttle. I called the hotel and was tpld no there is not a free shuttle there is not any shuttle. Convenient location downtown. Front desk staff was plain rude at check-in. Bell Boy/Concierges was very friendly and helpful. Very limited parking. Plan to pay $12 to $15/night to park. I was very disappointed with my stay. The front desk called me at 10:30 a.m. and told me I was taking up two parking spots and I needed to move my vehicle. Really, the other two vehicles on both sides of me we're improperly parked. I just parked between them. They asked me to move my vehicle one way or the other. I did this which left only space for […] a bicycle to park next to me. I forgot to mention, I'm cleaning my car off in a snow storm. I asked the Security guard are we okay? "Yes, was the response. At 2:30 a.m. I get a call from the front desk, "you need to move your vehicle, your taking up two spots. I go down, they had changed shifts and obviously didn't communicate. They asked me to move my vehicle the other direction. This left enough room on the other side for a bicycle to park. I was very annoyed, because I had to wake up at 5:30- am to catch a plane. We had reserved a room based on the pictures on expedia. We were given a room that did not match the pictures. When we asked the front desk they looked at the pictures and saw that they did not match the rooms/prices they were associated with. We stayed at the Westmark Hotel at the beginning of our trip and the end of our trip - last week of September. The GOOD - The staff was very accommodating and helpful, comfortable pillow, shampoo in the bathroom is always refilled, walking distance to shopping and entertainments. Restaurant prices are very reasonable. There are plenty of Restaurants […] to choose from. The BAD - paid for parking and had to switch tags if there's not enough parking where allocated, there were cigarette butts left on the balcony "it was a no-smoking room", bathroom curtains had a very bad smell, took us a day to figure out where the smell is coming from. Upon arrival at the hotel I tried to check in. We already made reservations via hotels.com when I got there the front desk guy told me there was no such reservation. The check in staff was very polite and got us checked in promptly. We went to our assigned room to find one of the beds not made and a shopping bag laying on the floor. We went back down the the desk, they checked their list and it showed the room had been cleaned. They re-assigned us to a different room, the clerk escorted us to the room making sure […] everything was ok, which it was, just ok. The rooms were not very big at all and the beds were very small. There was a lack of plug-ins near the beds and the ones that were nearby were so loose you couldn't keep whatever you were plugging in, in the socket, it just fell right out. At about 0530 in the morning we were awoken to our bed shaking as well as the walls vibrating with some sort of music coming from another room. I went out to the hallway to check the rooms directly next to us and there was no noise, went back into the room and called the desk to make a complaint as we thought the noise was coming from below us. After approximately 10 minutes and everyone in our room now awake, the music was still going, walls still vibrating, I dressed, went down to the room below and knocked on the door to the offending room...a female and at least 2 males were in the room with the music going. I told them to turn their music off, it is 5:30 in the morning and went back to my room and called the desk telling them I had taken care of the problem since they took so long. "My first and my last stay at this hotel"
We arrived early and even though our room was completely ready for occupancy, we were charged $20 to check in early. The room was on the 11th floor out of 14, yet there was a water leak in the sitting area and we had to be moved. The new room had sliding glass door problems but we were able to manage it. The room was uncomfortably warm all night even […] with an open window and the air blowing. The hvac froze even though it was only set at 61 and never got below 70. There was construction and unruly citizens throughout the afternoon and evening. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were too small. There was water in the lobby but no coffee because there was a cafe. The breakfast at the cafe was decent but overpriced. Overall - will not return to this hotel and will not recommend it. Thought it was going to be one of the classier hotels in Anchorage, but looked like it nothing had been changed since the 70's, including the bed sheets. TV was one of those really cheap old tiny ones and wasn't even in a spot where we could watch it from our bed. Pillows were tiny and uncomfortable along with the worst sheets I've ever seen - scratchy […] and nasty, wishing I would have brought my own. Paid $12 for parking and didn't have a place to park once the whole time we were there. Ended up having to find a parking garage and walk in the freezing cold all the way back to the hotel, which is the last thing I wanted to do at 8 months pregnant. There was no microwave anywhere in the entire hotel, no breakfast, no pool, nothing. Definitely the bare minimum here and horribly rude staff at the front desk too. Also, someone puked all over right at the entrance and no one cleaned it up, for the whole time we were there they just had a "Caution Wet Floor" sign next to it. Pretty gross. I had mailed a box before I was to check in, but the post office and mail system somewhere between Salt Lake City and Anchorage failed me - I sent the box at big […] expense - it left SLC on 10/16 but even though sent PRIORITY mail, it didn't get to the hotel until after my Convention event was over, on 10/23! The room I stayed in was clean. The front desk people were friendly, helpful and answered any questions I had. There was no mini fridge in my room. I've stayed at another hotel that had one for a previous trip I took and I missed that feature. The room was terrific; the staff was amazing. However, the parking situation is terrible. I was charged $12 per night for a parking space. I'm in my 70's, and have some physical disabilities. When I returned from my meetings after 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, there wasn't a parking space to be had. I was told I could walk two blocks away and park […] in the parking garage or I could wander the streets looking for an empty parking space. I cannot and will not do that. On Friday night, the night manager gave up his parking space (a block away) for me and walked me back to the hotel. On Saturday night, the only available space was a handicap space. I don't usually like to use those as others may be more impaired that I am but, I used my ADA tag and parked there. Staff was wonderfully accommodating but you really need to do something to keep spaces available for your patrons. The Westmark Anchorage could have been a better stay. I got in to a room right across from an ice machine and staff break room that was noisy.. I asked twice to be moved and got no relief. Parking is a problem. It is limited and unclear explanations allowed me to earn a $35 parking fine.
