"Great front desk, not so clean room"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 26, 2013
Service at the front desk went above and beyond our expectations. They helped us get numbers for rental car places and provided us with everything we needed. Room looked new and modern, but did not have a microwave or fridge, but did have a coffee maker. Our TV's remote control was broken (the battery cover would not stay on), there was a used band-aid on the floor between the two beds, and a hair in one of the new bath towels. Also, I tried to make local calls from the room phone, but even though I followed the instructions on the phone, it kept giving me a busy signal. View from the room was scary (steep hill with roots). Overall, we were pleased by the service provided by the front desk, but all of the other things were a disappointment. Next time, we probably will go with a hotel that had a microwave/fridge and offered drinks and snacks in the lobby, even if it costs a little more. Cleanliness of a room is very important, and we were definitely grossed out by the used band-aid.

"Quirky."
As a frequent traveler (~100 days/year), I was disappointed to find this Hyatt property on the low end of the Hyatt spectrum. The self-parking garage beneath the hotel consistently smelled of sewage, and did not have in/out privileges. The rooms, while not terrible, were not up to typical Hyatt standards (loud, old AC units, slightly dated decor, etc). […] Staff was pleasant and accommodated a room change after my first room (for some reason an ADA-compliant room) had a non-functional light fixture in the bathroom and a mild odor. "Vibrations and Hum."
Generally a nice hotel, the location isn't the best one and the rooms are nothing special. The breakfast restaurant are a nightmare because of some very strange vibrations, and a deep hum from some big washing machines at the floor above the restaurant. I would never choose to stay at that hotel again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great, convenient hotel"
Room was a standard sized room.. very clean and nice decor. Nothing extravagant but just as expected from a Westin property. They do have this weird system where you have to insert your room card into a slot to turn on the room lights. This is the convention center hotel, but even if you're not attending an event at the convention center this hotel […] is in a very good location. Many restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, theaters are all within walking distance. There's also a subway stop just a few blocks away. It's a free trip to across the river to the stadiums and the casino. I didn't try the Fish Market restaurant in the hotel, but it looked nice. The 28X Airport Bus drops you off 2 blocks from this hotel and it's only $3.75. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good place to stay"
Took a few minutes to figure out you need to leave your room key card in the slot next to the light switch to keep the AC and the lights on. Kept installing card then removing it and the lights and AC would turn off after a minute. I like that they are a "Green" hotel but they should better explain the key card setup. Parking is expensive. The hotel […] restaurant "Original Fish Market" was exceptional, waiter was great, food was amazing and presented beautifully. Best meal ive had in years. Was an expensive meal but i wasnt disappointed in the money i spent on it. Not much going on in downtown Pittsburgh when theres no games in town but worked out well as my wife and i wanted to check out the area and try different local food places which was easy without any waiting. Overall a pretty descent place to stay for the money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Big disappointment"
I was so looking forward to staying one night at the Westin Hotel but it came as a big let down for me. I would have rather have stayed at the Hampton Inn. The jacuzzi looked yellow/brownish, which did not tempt me to go in. The shampoo bottle was used from previous guests. Overall, it stunk, as in it was a big disappointment. It didn't help that the […] fire alarm went off at 3 a.m. and we had to evacuate the building. I couldn't fall back to sleep after that. When I left, I paid my parking ticket and the gate wouldn't open. I must say, the attendant that Sunday morning was very friendly and nice. That's about it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"What is wrong with the elevators"
The major issue was with the elevators. The main bank had five elevators however only 2 were functional. One was reserved exclusively for a wedding and the other was the only remaining elevator to service the whole hotel. It could take five or ten minutes just to get an elevator. Not sure what was the problem.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pretty close to the ballparks and casino"
We had a good time, the room was very clean. A little more than a half mile walk to our interests which included PNC Park, Rivers Casino and bars so everything was relatively close.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Short walk to PNC"
We really enjoyed the staff. We had stayed at the Renaissance in the past, but the price was very high for the night we were looking to stay. The Westin proved to be a economical and excellent alternative, and we will be looking to return in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh"
Fairly good room..however, the A/C was not working properly. It would not stay running and the room got extremely warm often. I woke up several times during the night to try to jumpstart the fan but it would shut down after about 15 to 20 minutes. Bathroom was also a little rough, with a broken shower curtain rod that allowed water to cover the flo […] or. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not good if you want some sleep!"
There was a wedding party staying on the floor of our hotel and we heard all the commotion from them including at 1:00 am. I would think that a hotel of this quality would have more soundproof rooms, because the people that we heard were just talking in a regular tone.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Weekend baseball getaway"
Went to Pittsburgh for a Pirate's game and needed a room for the night. The Westin was clean and comfortable and within walking distance of PNC Park. The only downside for us were the double beds. These are way too small for 2 people. When you must have a room with 2 beds, queen size beds should be standard in a hotel of this calibre.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Westin Expectations, Awkward Experience"
There is something great about developing a loyalty program, so that you have a respect for a brand, and that you can make a selection from a group of choices based on a positive experience with that brand. I chose this property among a great range of options in downtown Pittsburgh because I've loved other Westin experiences. Here, the hotel was good, […] and the staff was polite, but it didn't meet expectations. They have a couple of things that are not in their favor--one, the valet is not Westin, but a separate company, and they are your first point of contact at the hotel. It seemed like we were a hassle to deal with (two adults with two road-weayry young kids). But upon check-in, there was resistance to grant a requested checkout extension (of two hours). The rooms are nice enough, if a little dated. If you go, enjoy the location--great proximity to everything. For dinner, get out of the building--skip room service. "Just what I needed!"
I was in town for the Pittsburgh Marathon, and the hotel was incredibly comfortable, helpful, and accommodating to a somewhat odd schedule. Incredibly comfortable rooms and a great location in downtown Pittsburgh.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Colorless but reasonably comfortable"
Just remember, this is a convention hotel....don't expect charm or character. I know Pittsburgh well and much prefer the William Penn, Renaissance, or even Marriott Courtyard, an "adaptive reuse" of a classic building. All were booked solid the weekend of the Marathon. I found the low, pebbled ceilings here downright depressing, though admittedly there's […] not much Westin can do about that. For a downtown hotel the entrance was annoyingly auto-, not pedestrian-, oriented. Complimentary Internet was nice. One quibble: to be "green," the hotel asks us to hang a little placard on our doors before 2 a.m. if we don't require housekeeping. In return, we get a $5 coupon for use in the restaurant. I don't need fresh sheets and towels daily but nevertheless assumed that the trash would be emptied and the paper coffee cups replenished. I was wrong. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location!"
We were in Town to take part in the Pittsburgh Marathon. The hotel was an ideal place to stay. We were glad to get there early because the hotel parking lot filled up shortly after our arrival, which left some guests unhappy. The race was Sunday morning and we were able to walk to the ballpark to see the Pirates play on a beautiful Saturday night. The […] firework show was about the best I have ever seen. We did have an unfortunate experience while staying at the Westin. After the baseball game we walked back to the room and clicked on the televsion. There was no reception. We wanted to view weather reports and race information but were unable to do so. We called the front desk and they said they would send someone right up. After a half an hour, there was no response so we called again. They said our original call was not properly relayed. A very nice guy did come from maintenance and tried to repair the TV but was not successful. THis ordeal lasted from 11:00pm until midnight. Not fun at anytime but especially when you need to wake at 4:30am in order to run 26.2 miles of hills the next day in 85 degree heat. Other than this problem it was a great stay. I would like to return to the Westin and Pittsburgh again soo. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Highly recommend"
Overall, the entire hotel experience was superb. Every single employee that we encountered was friendly and helpful. Never once did anyone seem annoyed with my questions. Jesse, the shuttle driver, was very friendly and dependable. Check in was prompt- less than 5 minutes, the room was very clean, the bedding was comfortable, and the view was spectacular. […] The lap pool was perfect for the children and the hot tub was a nice surprise. The double shower heads were a nice addition as well. I felt very safe parking the car in the hotel garage and did not mind paying the $20 fee for safety and security reasons alone. I would highly recommend this hotel. "Great hotel...not sound proof"
The hotel is very nice and in a great location. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with the exception of the noise level. I could clearly hear conversations from the next room.
